“All sailors beware, for only one will the Lioness spare”

In the 34th century, vicious creatures walk the earth, and a bloodthirsty witch rules over the sea. The capital city of Zargo has found that music may keep its monsters at bay, and Lucien Mooncaster, the lead violinist of the city orchestra, is the toast of the town. But even with the lifestyle of a celebrity knocking at his door, the only company he cares to keep is that of his endless supply of books.

Meanwhile, perfection proves to be fragile as Lucien’s picturesque life of comfort falls out from under him when a storm strikes, and an unearthly beautiful woman washes ashore, shipwrecked outside his home.

Author Snippet
− C.R. Tyra writes my favorite kind of fiction, “dark-fantasy.”
THE VIOLINIST
A great fictional story, the Violinist takes readers on a dramatic and adventurous journey. The plot behind this book is one we have seen before, yet this presentation feels original. It’s a book full of adventure, suspense and even a little horror. I don’t want to give anything away.
What stood out for me most was near the beginning. “I saw its eyes and by God I wish I hadn’t! When I met the evil thing’s gaze… I felt I was… peering directly into Hell.” These words compelled me to read more vigilant as I turned the page. The story develops. It introduces new supporting characters. Its climactic ending is not one you might expect.
This is not a quick read, nor would you want it to be. This tale brings forth an artistically dark story that I would love to read again in the future. This is a n easy 4-Star read!

A book without a beginning nor an end. A mixture of things, happenings without any relationship among them. The author wrote about places, characters, actions without any reason, logic and/or common sense. And, of course, no explanation at all of why, where, how. So funny. But this was supposed to be a dark fantasy, not a frankly lousy book without any real purpose. Characters appear and disappear like things a magician takes out from his hat, monsters are good or bad, depending the page you are reading, people die but no explanation as to why, where and how. I was so good to give this book 2 stars. It deserves none, in fact, it would have been great if it was never written.

A beautiful dark fantasy about a young man caught in a feud between two supernatural beings. Lucien Mooncaster is the perfect audience surrogate as he gets thrust into a world of monsters. He's naive and reactive in the way that most everyman protagonists are. Lucien's perspective allows the reader to be fully immersed in a world that's part Victorian steampunk, part fairytale, and part post apocalypse. The setting wins a lot of points for being unique and is certainly memorable.

In my opinion the central themes of the novel are love and loss. The main characters are struggling with their past relationships and that inability to let go of the past is the source of inner turmoil. Romantic and familial ties are the driving force behind the two main antagonists.

Arguably one of the better fantasy books I've come across this year. If you're looking for something off the beaten path, The Violinist is definitely worth checking out.

This book is a page-turner! Horror and fantasy fans will be riveted by the twists and turns, and the short chapters and fast-paced action make it impossible to put down. Characters that are simultaneously flawed and sympathetic draw the reader into a feeling of immersion in Tyra's universe, a dark alternate future Earth with a distinctly steampunk atmosphere. I will definitely be awaiting the next story!

The Violinist was a good read from the first page to the last! It is very intense and kept me wanting to go back and read more. The characters where well developed and the dialogue was authentic and compelling! (Esp Solomon and Cat!)
