From the international bestselling author of STOP THE WEDDING! (now a Hallmark Channel movie) and the BODY MOVERS mystery series comes a new story of comedy, suspense, and romance.
Home is where the hurt is.
In COMEBACK GIRL, a young novelist estranged from her family is forced to return to her small hometown for a family emergency, and deal with the ghosts of her past. A humorous romantic mystery!

The Part 1 novella is JULY, Part 2 is AUGUST, Part 3 is SEPTEMBER, Part 4 is OCTOBER, Part 5 is NOVEMBER, part 6 is DECEMBER.
(In total there are 6 parts to COMEBACK GIRL.)
Don't miss out on this intriguing story everyone will be talking about!
USA TODAY bestselling author Stephanie Bond was seven years deep into a systems engineering career and pursuing an MBA at night when an instructor remarked that she had a flair for writing and suggested that she submit to academic journals. But Stephanie, a voracious reader, was only interested in writing fiction–more specifically, romantic fiction.
Upon completing her master’s degree and with no formal training in writing (her undergraduate degree is in computer programming), she started writing a romance novel in her spare time. Two years later in 1995 she sold her first manuscript, a romantic comedy, to Harlequin Books.
In 1997, with ten sales under her belt to two publishers, Stephanie left her corporate job to write women’s romantic fiction full-time. In 2011,
Stephanie launched a self-publishing business. Since that time, she has sold more than 1 million copies of her own books. To-date, Stephanie has published over 70 novels and has over 6 million copies of her work in worldwide distribution in numerous languages and formats.
Time to remember July 2018. It was not that long ago. Stephanie Bond writes something that might fall into a genre called “Diary Novels.” It might not be a genre but I’ll call it that. The idea is that Bond tells a story in installments, one published every day. My introduction to Stephanie Bond was with the series Coma Girl. Absolutely great. My expectations for this series are high. This is Part 1 of Comeback Girl; chapter titles are the dates in July. That makes each chapter a short read I believe perfect for readers who study English as a Second Language. Readers look forward to each installment, interest is maintained by cliffhanger endings, short attention spans are not penalized, this is an all-around win situation. There is even a bit of a mystery about the line at the bottom of the cover, “Home is where the hurt is.” Really? How is that going to work out? Is there a possibility of a happy ending? Readers will not find out until the end of December.
Unsurprisingly, this novel, Part One, is the set up for everything that follows. If you want to know what follows, read to the end of this July segment then read the author’s note. She will explain that there are three stories moving forward. I won’t reveal her intentions.
In reviewing this or any of the work in its parts, it would be very easy to accidentally write spoilers. Because I want to avoid that, reviews of monthly parts will be shorter than my usual reviews and I will be purposefully vague. The stories are fun to read, the humor is clever and in this Part 1 protagonist, June plays herself down a lot. It is as if she knows she has talent as a writer but she has yet to discover her niche or market. She seems confident of the fact she is good; she just doesn’t know when her talent will emerge to dazzle others.
For Part One, think of things that can go wrong in your life. Your job is going badly, your income stream has slowed to a trickle, your significant other is not so significant, and the bathroom tile grout is unbearably dirty. Could things get worse?
Sure. Lots more can and will go wrong for June Hunnicut, our aspiring writer protagonist. If you identify closely with this character, you may never go to Part Two. This is gloom and doom. Bond should have a contest to see if anyone can find one good thing that happens to June in this novel. Someone is even stealing her garbage bags.
When the best thing that could, but did not, happen involves pigs and a cowboy hat … read this entertaining setup. You will probably be motivated to continue. These thirty or thirty-one chapter parts sell for USD 2.99 but are available “free” with a Kindle Unlimited subscription. I have yet to read a Stephanie Bond novel to which I did not assign five stars.
This kindle novella is from my Kindle Unlimited account book one of six
I started reading Stephanie Bond in 2015 with the Body Movers Series, enjoying many more since.
Jane is now living in England with her boyfriend when she gets a phone call from her brother. Her mother has had a heart attack. Jane goes back to Alabama to a life she left. Continued in book two.
I would recommend this series and others by Stephanie Bond to readers of romantic family and friends relationships mystery novels😆🏠 2024 👒
These serials by Stephanie bond are always fun. I learned after her first serial series to wait until the whole story is out. I’m not patient enough for the waiting but I do love the short daily style. In part one, Jane has followed Hugh to London and they’ve been living on the verge of marriage for years. She swears she’s never going home to her birthplace until her momma has a stroke.
I was surprised and delighted to discover a new serial by Stephanie Bond while browsing for my next read. I loved Coma Girl and after reading part one of Comeback Girl, I'm hooked again. I care about Jane already. She's facing many issues that can be life changing, I hope to see her draw closer to someone to help guide her through. Her brother Tyler would be a natural choice due to their mother's illness...and other issues, would tend to draw siblings closer. Though (hot!) Will or even Detective Jack Terry (we know from the two previous series that he's a trustworthy kind of guy) could help. Then again, sometimes it's easier to reach out with a little distance between two people. Though back home in London, fiance (ok, technically ex-fiance), Hugh, seems to genuinely care about Jane. Could the current crisis and Jane's emergency return home to Alabama be the shakeup their relationship needed? Alas, I must wait and see! Though I'm itching for part two, in this world of instant...everything, there's something to be said for delayed gratification. Looking forward to next month's installment - a little like Christmas morning.
Stephanie Bond has done it again! She has written a daily serial for readers that is free on Amazon, or can be purchased in parts for eager readers. And what a story it is! While I wouldn't wish the fate that Jane Hunnicut faces on anyone, it is both a heart wrenching and fascinating story that I cannot stop reading! Characters and situations come alive, and you may even know someone who is all too similar to Jane!
Don't miss a chance to read this serialized book by an author who really knows how to tell a story!
Another great serial book from Stephanie Bond! The serial format is fun. You can read it daily or a month at a time and it runs from July 1st to Dec 31st. Jane lives in London with her fiance. They are having some problems so when Jane's mom has serious health problems she goes home to Alabama to help. Turns out her mom is a hoarder and Jane is stuck dealing with most of it. The interactions between the characters is interesting and the whole waiting to find out what happens next has me hooked! Stephanie Bond is a talented writer and this serial is off to a great start!
A one-book-successful writer returns to her rural hometown to care for her mother and delves into the mysterious disappearance of one of her childhood friends.
I read the entire story as a daily serial on the Internet, so this review is not just about this first part. I've read all three of Ms. Bond's serialized books (Coma Girl, Temp Girl, and Comeback Girl) and appreciate her willingness to share this for free on the Internet with us. Coma Girl is my favorite. The mystery of Diedre's disappearance is the best part of this story but the ending was abrupt and not satisfying to me.
The first part of Comeback Girl was delightful. Jane Hunnicut has it all -- a writing career and a wonderful boyfriend -- until she's called home for a family emergency and everything is turned upside down. Ms. Bond combines a quirky protagonist, a mystery, family dynamics, and more in a serial that echoes Dickens. Cliffhangers at the end of each section compel the reader to keep reading, and the end of the first part is a bombshell. Love this serial!
I really enjoyed Part 1 of this series. Jane is very likeable, and it's admirable that she goes home to help her mother after she has a stroke, putting her own livelihood in jeopardy to do so. Jane's mother has all kinds of issues and her brother Tyler is kind of a disaster himself. Jane's mostly on her own dealing with everything that's happened. Love Will's character and the mystery of Jane's childhood friend Deidre's disappearance. Part 2 has been just as interesting so far!
I've binged read the two previous daily serials by Ms. Bond and loved them. I'm really enjoying reading Comeback Girl. It's part of my morning routine before I go to work. I can't wait to see where this journey leads us.
Sometimes I need a quick light read. This is that book. Did not know that this was a series of stories. Will read the 2nd one. The first one did not tell me much about the characters. Will see if it develops.
This is a quick read. The main character is a bit irritating. Hopefully she becomes more interesting. I will continue reading to see how it goes. Well written, though.
An interesting premise with a writer and a writing block, a parent with heath problems and a missing girl. Add an old boy friend and maybe a new one and the plot thickens
This serial is different than the first one I read, Coma Girl, but just as good in a different way. It took me a little while to get into the first part, but once I got rolling I was pulled in and couldn't put it down.
Really enjoying part 1 of Comeback Girl & I pre-ordered part 2, can't wait!! Love it when Stephanie Bond writes these Daily Serial series so much fun to read!!
Ms. Bond's books are just fun to read. I read the coma girl series and enjoyed it as well. Funny and light with just enough mystery to keep you reading.
