He is determined to cleanse the house and remove the entity. But the supernatural activity becomes too much to handle, and Jake knows they are both unprepared for the fight. Worse, the entity targets Daniel, Jake’s young nephew, and wants to bring him harm. And when the intelligent haunting shows signs of demonic infestation, Jake realizes they aren’t dealing with a mere ghost.Jake attributes the evil spirit for driving his parents to an early grave. Now it wants to claim the rest of the family, and the only way Jake and Trevor will survive is to send the entity back to hell.A Haunting in Rose Grove is a supernatural horror novel for readers who love stories about haunted houses and battles with the demonic — the truest form of evil that exists in our world.
While this never did reach the point of scary for me, it was still very well done.
The author brings us a very atmospheric setting and characters to love.
I did find the things that happened in the past to be just a bit more chilling than the present day story, but I was still all in, anxious to know what would happen to our brothers.
A very solid read and I'll happily read the author again in the future.
Outside a small rural Georgia community is a sizable home with an unexpressed ugly history. If thar history remained past, it would not be troublesome; but unfortunately the house alters the behavior of its residents, especially targeting the most vulnerable. I think that also it identifies the individuals most likely to be tapped for aggression, rage, and abuse, and not-so-subtly mutates their psychology.
The terror here is the implacability and strength of the haunting, its ability to mutate psyches and to divide loved ones, and also its ability to read minds and identity pressing issues, then insert negative thoughts preying on worries and anxieties into minds, irregardless of distance.
This book was everything I wanted it to be and more! My favorite book is “The Exorcist’s House” by Nick Roberts. I have been looking for something along these lines (demonic horror) for years and I’ve finally found it in Rockwell Scott. He did an amazing job with this book because it gave me fear that no others have. I was so hooked that I could not put it down, even when it terrified me. He gave me the need to see it through to the end, whether good or bad. My only “critique” is that I wished it was longer. I enjoyed it so much that I simply did not want it to end! Overall, I absolutely loved this and I cannot wait to read more from Rockwell Scott!
Being honest & transparent from the get go. This is a super easy read and the pages fly by. But there are several things that I've noticed.
1) Jake & Trevor mention "childhood home" way too much 2) Jake's girlfriend mentions he was "haunted & not abused." 2a) This statement is so far from the truth. Whether it was the house that drove their father mad or not, there was a lot of physical & mental abuse towards everyone. 2b) Jake makes several comments with internal dialogue that the dad's need for strict discipline existed before they moved into the house. However, it did escalate after they moved in. 2c) The father obviously drinks heavily and makes the comment he was drunk off approximately 7 beers. This being said, the fuels his anger and hateful behavior to the rest of the household. 2d) Trevor recognizes the anger and demise of his parents both during and after they were in the house. Yet he still lashes out. 3) The basis of calling the hauntings the result of a ghost. 3a) If Trevor was any kind of paranormal investigator he would know this is simply not a ghost or residual haunting. 3b) After speaking with Jake about the religious paraphernal, most sound & even hobbyist investigators would have their recording (voice, video, emf, evp, etc) rolling. 3c) Jake made Trevor aware the religious items agitated the entity to reacting or "doing too much" would cause play into 3b. 4) Arthur Briggs tells Jake what the entity is with a clear definition. He only advises him to cleanse the house. 4a) Hate to tell ya Supernatural & Charmed friends; this won't do much, at all or if any. No amount of cleansing practices will help here, unless your in the business of making the Spirit angrier. (As someone who practices Root Work and Healing rituals this I know.) 4b) He then says he will not step foot in the house and advises them to abandon the house, not offering much help or sound advice. Most would consider his advice to be low grade. 4c) But wait there is more, he then offers his telephone number just incase they are wanting more deficient advice. 5) Trevor acknowledges the "ghost" (again with the ghost ::eye roll::) haunting him long after he moved. 5a) He even admits in his blog he knew the danger but still was willing to put his wife and son in danger....que daddy issues 6) crazy how the demon/ghost is portrayed as a lion when the bible depicts the lion laying down with the lamb 7)there is no clear answer as to why the ghost from the first owner became a demon 7a)it also seems he depicted several key characteristics of the demon’s influence but the loose end was left hanging like the rope around the tree 8) another loose end was it never specified why the brothers were estranged 8a) their stories of the “ghost” were the same acknowledgments by their mother 8b) they attributed their parents death to the house and not themselves
It wasn’t horrible with all these points being made. But it felt like Zack Bagans wrote it.

From the first paragraph, this book grabbed our attention. Scott manages to capture that elusive, golden quality of youth and sibling admiration, landing the reader squarely in a sunny past of innocence and contentment, youthful complaints, simple delights - a treehouse Dad finally gets around to repairing. He quickly moves to the tension, the experience of dread that only an understanding of a child's perception can craft. The brothers, Jake and Trevor, are immediately relatable and endearing, without resorting to the implausible sage-child artifice that proliferates today. These boys are real and they are genuine - they could be anyone's sons or brothers or friends. There are passages that are so solidly crafted, that they punch, perfectly framed, perfectly timed to the pace of the book. The devastation that is visited upon the small family in Rose Grove comes in phases, from injury to premature death. Grown, Trevor purchases the old family home, while Jake moves into a new apartment to give himself and his domestic partner each a new shot at life, but as he unpacks, he unpacks years of unspoken doubts, fears and tensions. Everywhere there are reminders of loss, of strange things, things he doesn't want to reveal to Kelly, his live-in. The tension continues to build through well-crafted exchanges between the lovers and succinct, logical action. Although the solution comes too quickly, because you don't want the story to end and because Trevor's developmental arc is largely ommitted until late in the story, the book lends itself very well to a film screenplay. It is easily visualized, not because it is simple, but because Scott's precise descriptive talent finds that one essential element of every scene, every piece of dialogue, and anchors that sensate experience entirely throughout the work. This author elevates above horror into the uncanny, and knows just how to lure readers in and then betray their trust, while pinning them to the pages and keeping them guessing. Enjoyable read! Great word-craft! An author to watch!
Scary story about a family haunted by a demon. Doesn't get better than that for me but what makes this book even special was how the story made me feel. The book starts with the two main characters as children and what happened to them and the family because of the influence of this evil entity that has haunted them all their life and also how it continues to affect their lives to adulthood. The author weaves a story with a sense of nostalgia during the period of these character's childhood that was wonderfully done. The bond between the two brothers and also their mother trying to get through a physically and emotionally abusive situation really struck a nerve. Just a warning though for some that may be bothered by such a thing but there is quite a bit of profanity throughout the book. I'm not generally a fan of that kind of thing but it's not gratuitous as it's part of the Demonic pattern.
This was such a great horror story!! The story starts off with a family of four, two grade school boys and their parents, moving into their new home. This is the beginning of a life of pain for them, both physically and mentally, for the next twenty years. It goes back and forth between when they were children and the ghost would mess with them and get them in trouble for things they didn’t do and then their father would abuse them to the current time as adults where the oldest brother moves back into the home with his wife and son and the scary things that started happening in the house. I love the bond the brothers have and what they will do to help each other out. This is a definite “have to read” for anyone who likes supernatural and horror books. I’m so glad I picked this book and can’t wait to read his next book. Total five thumbs up 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼!! 🤓❤️📚❣️
Not a bad novel. It’s a quick read with some tension and action in it. Don’t be surprised by all the bad words in it though, because it’s a demon and not a ghostie…. So lots of bad language.
This is my first Scott novel, and I seem to remember getting it either for free or very cheaply on amazon, which is how I end up with these lesser known authors in the horror genre. It was a nice way to spend a couple rainy days, with some tea and a fuzzy throw. His other series has been reviewed by people on goodreads as “rather Christian… or Catholic, idk”. That’s not my thing so I don’t know if I will continue to read Scott’s novels. I do know that a quick check at my local library shows that they don’t have any of his novels at all.
I really enjoyed this book. A Haunting in Rose Grove begins in 1995 where a family move into their new home in Rose Grove. 20 years later, Jake Nolan thinks he has put the traumatic events of his past behind him until he learns his estranged brother has moved into the very house which tore his family apart. I’m a night time reader mainly so I don’t like anything too complex. I found this book to be easy reading whilst keeping me interested and I really didn’t want to put it down till my eyelids refused to stay up.
Jake and Trevor move into the new house with their parents, but soon afterwards their world is turned upside down. Trevor falls from the treehouse and breaks his arm. Jake knows he was pushed. Their father is "disciplining" for things that they haven't done. It's summer break and now their wearing cuts and bruises from their father. Please read this book to find out everything that the demon has done to this family. I promise you will NOT be disappointed!
The book is a tale about a haunting with a rather pleasant family side story. It reads well with nothing much to call it exceptional. It is the usual kind of mildly entertaining haunted house tale. What really bothered me, was the glaring usage errors such as the " him and me", "her and she", sorts. Bad grammer breaks a reader's trust. It doesn't matter how your story plays out, it always needs editing by a professional. In some places, even I, a reader in passing, felt embarrassed by the mistakes that would, so easily, have been caught.
Wow I would give this book a six if I could! I was immediately pulled into this story and couldn't put it down. I felt like the story of Jake and his family and the effects of what happened to them because of what was in the house was chilling. Not sure how I have missed reading this author's books but I plan on reading his other work.
This was the first Rockwell Scott novel for me. It was exactly what I was looking for in a haunted house story. Fast paced and relentless. Wonderful character development that left me actually caring about the people. An Evil force with a dark past. This was a quintessential page Turner of a scare. Very fun read, and certainly not my last novel by Scott.
Had me captivated and engrossed page after page. Right from the beginning I couldn't stop reading. This was so full of drama and horror and so entertaining. The writing was brilliant and the story line made me want to sleep with the lights on. I love stories like this and will definitely read more by this author!!!
I loved the book, describing bad relationships stemming from childhood..Two brothers used and abused in their own house.Parents acting strangely all because of a demon..Yes a demon and they have to defeat it..Looking forward to reading more from the author Rockwell Scott
Mr. Scott does it again with another creepy, demonic story. The story goes back and forth between the past and the present as the two brothers are now adults. Jake's older brother, Trevor, has moved back into their old home with his wife and son hoping to get rid of the entity that's living there. Jake knows that his brother is going to need his help whether he wants it or not. Loved this book!
I have questions. Why would you go and buy a haunted house that's vacant when you could not bring your family into it and just instead conduct your ghost experiments on your own in the vacant house? Next question: How many magnetic sets of the alphabet do they own? Story was ok, ghost was ok, just over all an ok book.
Very spooky read. And really sad at times reading about the total destruction of a family and the effects on the sons. Never a dull moment and I was riveted for hours until I finished. Strongly recommend!!!!
Far too many mistakes Badly edited Dad was stood on a ladder fixing a light ( or something similar) and then on the next page Dad came rushing through the front door A mistake that should have been picked up
I’ve just found a new author that I love! I’ve read all of his books and now can’t wait for more! Each book has grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn’t put them down! Scary. Good and scary but not gross out scary. Scary enough that I slept with the light on!
Who doesn't love a good Haunting? I loved this it was truly good, a Haunting in Georgia, 2 brothers come face to face with an evil presence that destroyed their family years ago.
The day time was terrible for their abuse from father. I only wished it to stop. Knowing lives were shaken and destroyed I.took that in account of the Horror.
