Tangled Up In You

Rate this book
Becoming best friends at an early age, Corbin and Hunter were inseparable. Where one went, the other followed. As years passed, their friendship blossomed into something more and both boys fell madly in love.
Corbin loved Hunter’s quirkiness and obsession with Shakespeare, and Hunter loved Corbin’s goofy personality and kind heart.

But what sounded like the makings of a fairy tale soon turned into a hard dose of reality.

They planned to spend forever together, but when Corbin is accepted into his dream college in California to play football, those plans change. Hunter didn’t want to leave their small, quaint town in Arkansas, and Corbin didn’t want to stay. The happy future they envisioned comes crashing down around them and their love isn’t enough to keep them together.

After being apart for seven years, a devastating loss brings Corbin back to town, and he and Hunter are forced to re-open old wounds. And with the pain of the past also comes the memory of love and broken promises. Hunter is afraid of getting hurt again, and Corbin just wants a second chance to make things right.

Second chances rarely happen in life. Can Corbin and Hunter take the opportunity and move forward, or will they remain stuck in the past?

Maybe my expectations were too high after reading the brilliant Axios: A Spartan Tale by this Author but I struggled to nearly reach the half way point here and, quite frankly,I really didn't care what happened to these two.

It,actually, started off well with the first few chapters when Corbin and Hunter were young but things went down hill pretty quickly after that.

The rest of my rant review in going in a spoiler.

You know how once you graduate high school you change as a person, figure yourself out, let go of petty conflicts? No?

Huh. Neither do Corbin and Hunter who are just as ridiculously immature at 25 as they were at 18. Especially Hunter. I wanted to shove some cheese in his mouth to go with all that whine.

The book lacked cohesion, and despite the moments of sweetness and humour, the focus on sex over everything else made me think these guys had little in common.

The whole thing with Corbin's ex was predictable, and Corbin really needed to stop talking to him and hire an attorney.

I also thought it was weird how little Corbin mourned for his recently deceased grandpa. It's like grandpa's death was just a setup for the men's reunion. Forget grief and healing; Corbin was way too busy pouting and obsessing over Hunter.

At the beginning, Hunter thinks it's sad that they now have to use condoms, but in the numerous sex scenes that follow, condoms aren't mentioned, even though there was never a discussion of getting tested.

The constant miscommunication killed me, and I didn't see the point of some of the secondary characters. Like Veronica; why was she even included?

This entire book fell flat for me.

This wasn’t an easy story to connect with. It started with both characters making bad decisions and saying what shouldn’t have been said just because they were angry at each other. Hunter, trying to hold Corbin back from his dream * bad, Hunter, very bad move*. And Corbin, tossing unforgettable hate words at Hunter for not being supportive and following him in his new path. *Again, bad move, very bad move, Corbin.*

Seven years go by and they speak ONCE, virtually. When they meet again, Hunter is full of bitterness and Corbin, well…, it was complicated and I don’t feel like dissenting about it. What I want to tell you is my intake on Corbin.

AND kind of heartless.

There was also douche Will,

something that I saw coming miles away and so unnecessary.

Fortunately, at around 60% the story did get better. As soon as the guys started to show more maturity I became more invested, however it was a bit too late to make a significant change on my rate.

I'm on a book roll, yeah baby!

This one was fine. Kinda emotional angsty but not too over the top. Real life stuff, true love, first love, life got in between. But found their way back to each other.

Reason it's 5 stars was that it was kinda boring. If a book is angsty, I really want to feel it tear into me. This one was always on a low simmer.

DNF @50%.

This was not for me!!
Unfortunately, because I really wanted to love it.
It was boring and repetitive, nothing really happened and the little that did happen was predictable.
I wanted to stop reading it sooner, but I had such good memories from Axius that I let hope take over.
It didn’t get better and the main characters, especially Hunter, were annoying to a point that I wanted to slap them.

I’m so sad.

What a yawn-fest. It also doesn't help that I don't really care about either of these two.

Tangled Up In You by Jaclyn Osborn was really for me.

-The dialogue was overly sweet and borderline cheesy.

-Miscommunication.

-Both MCs came off immature for their age.

-The villainous ex. This whole plot point just came off as cliché.

-I can't believe I'm saying this- but there was too much sex. I actually skimmed some of the scenes.

-This book was unnecessarily long and repetitive.

I don't know. This started off promising but felt a little flat at the end.

After Axios, I didn’t think Jaclyn Osborn could make me feel so strongly through two characters with another story; it was so powerful, it seemed impossible she’d be able to create, again, a perfect chemistry, a bond so intense and powerful, you’d feel it right to your soul.

I really underestimated this outstanding author— my definitely favourite MM magic’ story creator. Jaclyn Osborn. Was. Born. to write the words that makes your heart beat faster, you eyes water and your soul come to life in a maelstrom of emotions, feelings, no matter how deep they are buried. Because with her words, a whole world blooms, shines before your eyes and you’re sucked in an universe that reminds you how alive you are.

This time, it’s through the eyes of Corbin and Hunter, two characters that’ll melt your heart and will literally invade every corner of your mind.

She gloriously smashes all levels of expectations, throwing them out of the window, simply because she decided she was going to write the perfect story. Again.

And it's an unashamed “five stars” scoring touchdown!

A second chance/best friends romance that rivals with the magnificence of the greatest bestsellers out there.

The chemistry between Corbin and Hunter is simply clamant, breathtaking and completely consuming you. It binds you to their story with a hold you just don’t want to let go. With a perfect pace that almost enslaves you to continue like an addict, starving and craving the feel of emotions. A hunger that Jaclyn satiates, feeds shamelessly... to our great pleasure.

Its pure and raw, rough and sweet, greedy and giving... it’s *everything*, wraps in two men that means *everything* for each other— facing challenges life throws on their path. Challenges that sometimes breaks them, sometimes molds them to what they are destined to be. Through tears and laughters. Lies and truths. Hate and love, all entwined to create this utopian romance.

Its so freakishly beautiful, it leaves you completely undone. Wordless. Obsessed over two characters that’d crawled their way to your heart. And they have in mine. It’s a story I know I will read over and over again, just like I did with Him and Us.

It’s Jaclyn Osborn is her upmost sans pareil. She writes the words that makes you feel—She’s my Shakespeare of MM modern times... sometimes tragical, but always beautiful.
.
.
“I think I could spend forever kissing you,” I said before doing it again.
“I think I’d let you,” he responded after the next one.
.
.

“Why are you smiling?” he asked after tearing away from my lips. His voice rang of aggression, but his brown eyes met mine with tenderness.
“Because I’m home,” I answered, caressing his cheek.
.
.
“Today, tomorrow, and until my heart stopped beating, I’d always belong to him.”

It’s not a five stars for me; it’s the whole firmament of stars!

Jaclyn Osborn's work usually delivers, but Tangled Up In You didn't quite live up to the blurb.
Childhood sweethearts, second chance love, athlete... should have been a hit, but Corbin and Hunter, the main characters, were not deep enough; their dialogue felt YA, and the writing style was so different from what I've seen previously of Osborn.
I am still willing to check out more of her work since Brighter shades of Light was quite fabulous!

Not sure how [or why] this story has already had a shed-load of 5 star reviews...I'll assume they were perhaps ARC's and a 5 star review was kind of expected [NEVER feel pressured into giving a good review if the story wasn't.... ARC or no ARC]. It falls waay short of and honestly pales in comparison to Axios: A Spartan Tale. Could Axios be Jaclyn's magnum opus?? Hopefully not 😕.

Yes, the second chance romance was nice and ended as you'd expect it to, but the two MC's were still hopelessly immature at the age of 25....and OK, 18 I can believe and understand, but they haven't grown any more emotionally and intellectually as a person at 25?? Doubting Thomas here 🤔. I've read several Jaclyn Osborn stories now, and none of them have contained the amount of sex that this one did. Lots of sex in a story [unless it's flagged as erotica] usually indicates to me that the author was very short on ideas and plotlines [oh, and the ones that were in the story, the actual solutions for Corbin and Hunter's future were quite obvious to me, humble reader that I am, from quite early on], so Mrs Picky I may be, but 3 stars at the most is all this one deserves and is getting from me. 😕

I almost dnf'd this but I finished it by skimming and skipping parts of it. The problems were: It was boring, had a storyline that is beyond washed up, and had too many sex scenes - skipped those completely as they were so cliche. I have read a couple of her other books and they were fails for me as well. Axios: A Spartans Tale was her only hit for me. I believe I will be done with this author.

This book grabbed me from the first page! Jaclyn did an AWESOME job on this story – A well-deserved 5*
Corbin and Hunter had it all… They were best friends since forever, they were in love AND lovers… Nothing would ever separate them… until the day that something did…
Corbin had to think about his dreams and future, he loved Hunter, but he needed to fulfill his dreams, so he took off, he went to his dream college to play football. But he had no idea of the hole this decision would leave in his heart, in his life, in his soul… it doesn’t matter where he went, the memory of Hunter, of his first love and best friend, would always follow him.
Hunter was left behind with a broken heart and missing half of his soul. He did the best he could to forget Corbin, to move on, to be happy… Years later found him accomplished professionally, he had achieved his goals and loved his work as an English teacher, but deep inside, he still missed Corbin…
When again, life decided to interfere with both of their destinies, it would be up to them, to forget the past and to give love a second chance…
Hunter grabbed my heart from the first page… he was hurt, misunderstood and really suffering… I wanted to smack Corbin upside the head so many times!!! But I must confess that Corbin ended up conquering me too… it was really hard to stay mad at him with all his goofiness – he is ADORBS!!!

I enjoyed. It was sweet and it had one of my favorite tropes, second-chance romance. It was nice and fluffy but I still felt like it was missing something.

I don’t know, I feel like the plot and the writing was a bit repetitive and the book didn’t have me on a chokehold. It was still good though.

On that note, I recommend it if you like light stuff, with a bit of emotional moments, fluff and sweetness. Bye bye!

This book has potential in the setup but it is poorly developed beginning with the characters and then followed by the execution of the storyline. There was a lot of immaturity and predictability. Overall I wanted it to be good and there are some sexy scenes and what not but overall it just did not work.

Jesus Christ there are some nasty, bitter reviewers here.
Like, this is why I hate this damn community. Why am I here then? Because I really feel for these authors that come and pour their damn hearts out and come here and read the nastiest, most vile comments.

It's one thing if you didn't like it. But some of you take it way, wayyyyy too far.

That said... I really enjoyed this. It was a sweet, second-chance love story with a satisfying conclusion. Sure, they were immature at first...but they were KIDS. Then they grew up. And--omg--people sometimes act like shitheads! OMG!! NO FUCKING WAY!

I got invested in the characters and while there wasn't anything huge or revolutionary here, it did take me out of my own 'head' for a while and it was a nice escape. I really also liked the aspect of Corbin having to 'come out' to the public and the struggle with that. Not something I've read a ton of; a lot of characters I've read seem to be pretty confident or have dealt with that previous to the book.

And even though I think it's perfectly acceptable for Indies to have a bit of errors because--let's face it, their budgets are tiny for editing as compared to a traditional publisher--I didn't find one here. So for those who are uptight about that crap...there you go.

All in all this was very enjoyable if you're not a dickweed and stop taking shit so seriously.

The only happy moment I had in this novel was when I decided to not read any further. Know why? Because it was exactly 69%. 69, got it? I know, I know. I’m such a dork.

Ok. This novel is your usual friends-become-lovers-distance-breakup-then-hometown-visit-after-long-time-lovers-again story. I was expecting some serious twist or heartbreak or maybe even just a tiny weird factor to make this ‘unique’ in a sense after reading Jaclyn’s last novel. But it wasn’t meant to be I guess. I don’t even have any particular qualms why I didn’t like it. I mean the characters are nice and all and we have perfectly good sex scenes to get you through but tepid boners don’t do it for me anymore. So, you can totally take this as an easy read and for that part you might actually like it. But I just can’t.

Well this book just became one of my all time favorites every. Wow these two just were everything. It was one of my favorite tropes, second- chance and it was to perfection. Also, I am from Kansas, so that was awesome to have Kansas in it, and their song is my husband and I’s song, and we are high school sweethearts. So, ya this book had it all. The love and lost and coming out story and HEA to the max and the sweetness galore. Yep, I absolutely loved Corbin and Hunter or should I say #Cunter LOL!

How can you say you love someone and then leave and not contact them for SEVEN FREAKING YEARS and then come back and be surprised the other person is hurt, resents you and is scared?

*facepalm*

What did Corbin expect? That they would reunite and Hunter will take him back, no questions asked and everything will be rainbows and flowers?

*sigh*

This book started good (kinda) but it got frustrating really fast. I've read about 50% before I gave up and added it to my dnf list.

The blurb made this book sound interesting enough for me to pick it up. I can't say it was wasted time, because it was somewhat enjoyable, however, I'm having a bit of a hard time trying to figure out how to rate this.

First of all, I don't understand authors that use slang in their books that's not normally used where the book is supposed to be based. For example, this story takes place in Arkansas (written by an Arkansa native), yet she used words like "bloke" and "tellie" which I'm pretty sure are British slang. So yeah, kind of out of place there, one of my pet peeves in books. Secondly, there was so much crying !! I know this is a gay romance, but who says gay men have to act like women? And as sexist as I know it sounds, it's usually the woman who does the crying in romance books (hey, I'm not the one writing them like this). That being said, when I read a gay romance, M/M, I expect to read about men, manly men, because not all gay men behave like contestants in Ru Paul's Drag Race - something I truly do NOT appreciate in books. I don't get why this author has this super tough quarterback crying all the damn time ! The other main character - well he's an English teacher so of course he's all sentimental and cries all the time too.

WHAT ???

Exactly my point. It's stereotypical to make your characters act all weepy and dare I say it, like girls, simply because they're gay men. They argue ? They cry. They are happy? They cry. Both of them. All the time.

Lastly, and this one kinda bugs me - William, the ex. I get that he served a purpose in the story, that being said, there was a point where it was the perfect time to end that plot line. The author had the issue with him totally resolved, nicely ! But then, for some reason she brings him back and it adds absolutely NOTHING to the story, except giving it an unfinished thread. Why??? It was done !!! He did not need to come back !!!

Anyways, so was it a bad read ? No, not really, I mean they were very sweet with each other, I get why what happened, happened. Did it have a HEA ? Sure, although in most books you get a little bit of a future in the epilogue, hell, even MM books have some talk of babies, not this one though. Not really any angst, no big huge conflicts or car chases or anything crazy like that. Just a lot of men crying LOL
