Ahhhh another fantastic entry in the Amelia Fang series!
Amelia’s birthnight is coming up and she’s so excited to celebrate - except everyone in Nocturnia is losing their memories and it’s up to Amelia to figure out why - and who - is behind the memory kidnappings!
The mother and daughter moments in this one are so touching and beautiful and left me a little teary-eyed at the end! Another book means more character development and hijinks and you can’t help but love these characters even more. Amelia is fast becoming one of my favourite heroines in children’s literature (and I thought nobody could take the place of Mona the Vampire but boy was I wrong).
I’m super enjoying the mystery aspects of this series and it makes each book so far in this series have high stakes (no pun intended) and seeing how brave our characters can be is so inspiring. Can’t wait for more!!
Amelia and her friends have a new cookery teacher, called Mr Sublime. A little self absorbed, he does however make rather marvellous cookies, and when he sets the class a challenge to sell as many of his special recipe cookies in exchange for tickets to Pumpkin Paradise Park, Amelia gets all her friends on board. However, these cookies seem to be having a strange effect on everyone in Nocturnia, almost as though they're forgetting things...
I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the previous books, but this is definitely more of a personal preference - I just don't really like cooking and baking in my stories. Again however I did find the overall plot and pacing to be good, especially the parts with just Amelia and Tangine, working together. The two are usually with Florence and Grimaldi, so it was nice to see their friendship flourish. We also see a bit more of Amelia's homelife and her relationship with her mum, which again was nice to see and helped build up more of a backstory between the pair.
I still really like this series. Amelia and her friends are utterly charming, with stories that are funny and interesting. I'm excited to see where later books go in terms of storylines.
I'll confess, this series just continues on and on and on to be charming! Not only does it keep up the same loveable Halloween-spooky aesthetic, but it also adds, expands, and bypasses expectations in terms of the plot! You'd think, with the cutesy art, that this would be a harmless story, right? Something cute but non-dramatic, like the Rainbow Magic series, right>
Well, think again, friends! This book's got higher stakes than ever before for Amelia and her friends and, not only that, but there were a few twists in there that, yet again, I wasn't expecting. And, I mean, that's got to be a good thing, right? When you're able to put in twists to a story that an adult can't guess?
Anyway, it's absolutely splendid and will forevermore have a spot on my favourites shelf along with its two predecessors. Absolutely wonderful! <3
Cookies, theme parks, birthnights, memory loss, and more!
The newest Amelia, and I just adored it so much. And no, the cookies didn't have anything to do with it... at least I can't remember if I had any cookies... or if I was bribed. Mmmm.. *suspicious*
This time we see the effects of what happened after the last book. The two worlds, light and dark, have reunited and this means several differences in various places. For instance, Amelia notices it in school. She has new classmates (who have to get used to waking up at night, cue a sleeping fairy in a test tube), new subjects to learn. But also in real life, glitter is all the rage, unicorns and other light creatures wander the streets. It just made me smile so much, I was happy for this world, that they could finally be united, be happy, and see that they aren't so different after all (or scary as they all thought).
But be warned! The peace from the first part of the book is something that doesn't stay for a long time. Quite soon people left and right are losing their memories, and not only does that mean they forget about their loved ones, but also about that peace treaty, and so there is fear and suspicion.
I had a quick suspicion who the culprit was (though the real reason why x did it all was a surprise to me, and I was absolutely delighted), and also what was causing the memory loss. Still I had tons of fun seeing Amelia and Tangerine figure it out, and also find out why they aren't affected as the others are.
I felt sorry for Amelia, she likes sweet stuff but with her tooth she can't do any eating, then again, she will be happy later. Plus she was so excited about the birthnight (I keep spelling birthday), and then that happens. Aww. :( I loved that the author added the whole growing up and that you may have your own dreams to follow instead of those your parents want to follow. In this one we also see that Amelia and her mom have their differences. Amelia wants to become a pumpinologist, while her mom wants her to be the perfect vampire with all the right manners and doing all she is doing at this moment. I am happy with how the author wove this through the story we have, and I just love the ending, awww. Though also I had to laugh, glitter anyone?
Plus, Amelia showed so much courage, even more than she already did in the previous books. And not just courage, but also selflessness. What she did in the end? Not many would have done the same, and I was crying in tears. Happy but also afraid. What if she would be without x forever? What if?
The things that happened after that all, it reminded me a bit of the ending of Gravity Falls. I won't spoil anything, but that also felt a bit rushed. Then again, in both situations, I guess it just wasn't feasible to make it any longer, so I can forgive it.
I am already not a fan of Florence, but she takes the crown and the jewels in this one. Dear heavens, what kind of *insert some bad words* friend are you? Your friend, your best friend even, wants to participate in a fun cookie selling event, you can win tickets to a fun theme park, and all you do? Complain, whine, shout (oh wait, she always shouts), be a bother, eat the cookies, and more. Good grief, why is anyone friends with her? Sorry, but if my friend acted like this? I wouldn't want to be her friend. It sounds harsh, but it isn't the first time Florence is a terrible friend. :| Plus can SHE STOP SHOUTING BECAUSE REALLY THAT GETS ON MY NERVES. Thanks.
Let's not forget the delightful illustrations that just bring a big smile on my face.
All in all, I can't wait for Amelia's newest adventure. What kind of things will she be doing there? Will she meet new friends? Go to new places? Eeeeeep! Excited!
It's amusing to imagine monsters as they might have been when they were growing up, and this series allows readers to do so as they follow Amelia Fang and her friends through various adventures. In this installment, the third title, Amelia, a vampire, is determined to win first prize in a cookie baking and selling competition initiated by their new culinary arts teacher, Mr. Sublime. But Amelia's team of Tangine, Florence, and Grimaldi gets off to a slow start because half of the team is distracted by playing rather than baking. By the time they hit the streets to sell those cookies, all with ingredients provided by Mr. Sublime, Frankie has already taken their customers. Amelia realizes that things are terribly wrong when her family and friends forget to show up for her birthnight. Has everyone forgotten her for some reason? Naturally, there is dastardly plot afoot, and Amelia is willing to risk everything to help her friends regain the memories they seem to have lost. But what will it cost her to do so? I loved the illustrations, the interactions between Amelia and her mother and their disagreement over her keen interest in pumpkins, not to mention how her friends are a yeti, a grim reaper, and a future king, the son of a fairy and a vampire. Third and fourth graders who love their stories with a dash of humor and a lesson about how to treat others will lap this one up.
My least favorite of the first 3 but still adorable. The previous two just had more cute moments. However, if a child wanted a little more depth than the previous two books, this would be a step up in plot complexity.
As fang-tastic as the others ! I enjoyed myself once again to follow Amelia and her friends's adventures ! This middle-grade serie is a little gem, perfect for spooky season !
There’s something wonderful about this series that just has me grinning like a child. From forgetful cookies to adorable pumpkins I’m so happy to be enjoying the childlike wonder that is captured in this story.
Amelia and her friends still make me smile and Tangine is really growing on me. A magical story mixed with some real lessons and messages, what a delightful book.
Read- September 2020 for Bookopoly (Roll 2, Community Shelf, Series), A Touch of Whimsy Readathon (Eat Me, Drink Me- Make Yourself a Cosy Reading Snack) and Mamma Mia Readathon (Voulez Vous, Read Whatever You Want) - This really is one of my favourite fun series, I love picking one up every so often.
Amelia and Squashy are holed up happily in her bedroom with a copy of Positively Pumpkin and coming up with costumes, when her mother interrupts and disapproves highly of the mess and Amelia's desire to become a pumpkinologist. She's afraid her mother will just never understand her, and it's downright depressing.
Meanwhile, she and her friends are now attending Catacomb Academy during the day, with other children from the kingdom of the light, and they have a new fairy teacher from Glitteropolis, Mr. Sublime. He's a baker, and he gives his students a new cookie recipe to try out with ingredients Amelia's never worked with before.
Amelia can't taste her own baked-goods because of a sore fang, and Tangine gets a sore tummy from eating too many Scream Cheese Boogers and doesn't eat any, but she happily supplies the cookies to Florence and Grimaldi.
Who promptly lose their memories.
And at the same time, blue forget-me-not flower petals stream over Nocturnia, filling the air with their scent.
Unrelated events? Heck no! Amelia Fang solves the mystery and... I won't spoil it! Read for yourself how she saves the day, Nocturnia and everyone's memories, once again.
There are other books in this series, we just haven't gotten to them quite yet. Enjoy!

Was ist bloß los in Nokturnia?
I had a smile on my face and had my children asking what I was guffawing at during bedtime reading as I read Amelia and Tangine's adventure in this third book of the series. The folk of Light and Dark are getting along, the school has new subjects, with new teachers, like Mr Sublime, and students who are tasked with making and selling cookies to win a visit to Pumpkin Paradise Park. With Grimaldi the Grim and Florence the Yeti playing havoc and Tangine ill having eaten too many scream cheese bogies Amelia finds herself about to celebrate her birthnight alone as everyone seems to have forgotten, except Squashy, loyal pumpkin. With a mystery where cookies are the suspects, fun pa-doinking pumpkins and a visit to the aptly named Loose Limbs Library {my favourite illustration in the many throughout} I romped through this story and if you haven't already tried them give this a go. It's not scary and has friendship, family and love at the heart of the story.
Tahle série si i tímto dílem skvěle udržuje svůj styl - čtivý způsob psaní, originální a zábavný styl vyjadřování, skvělá práce s jazykem. Dobře propracovaný děj a zajímavá zápletka čtenáře drží pořád v napětí. Což není určitě špatné a já oceňuji snahu u změnu a vývoj. :-D
3.5 stars I didn't find the plot as good as in the previous book, but there's a lot more character development to be appreciated. Amelia's doubts about her relationships with friends and family, and about her future, were very well done and likely relatable to lots of kids. That was well done. But Tangine is the character that's most evolved. I can't believe I adore him now, haha! He's become Amelia's little brother, and I love seeing it. On the other end, Grimaldi and Florence seem to be more and more put aside. Which I guess I prefer regarding Florence, cause I'm starting to dislike her. I'm sure her attitude is made to be funny for the little ones, but to me she acts a lot like a bully and it bugs me. Weird choice there.
I’ve been reading a lot of middle grade but not much lower-middle grade/chapter books. I was specifically looking for something spooky with a theme park and came across this one! (Unfortunately the characters never actually make it to Pumpkin Paradise Park, but would love to read another installment set in the park). This is my first time reading any of the Amelia Fang books, so I appreciated the very cute map and character sketches in the beginning of the book because it was a lot of kooky character names to keep straight.
This is absolutely something I would have loved to read as a child. So fun, creative, and upbeat. Halloween vibes all-around. Fast-paced. The “twists” at the end were just right for this age level. And the illustrations are fantastic. I particularly love Grimaldi.
The third in this series for intermediate readers, Amelia Fang returns. She is part Vampire (of the night) and fairy (of the day). Amelia and her friends encounter a new teacher promoting a cookie contest that leads to a strange series of events including to many people losing their memories. As the characters try to figure out what is going on, a deep plot to creature deep divisions between the day creatures and the night creatures is uncovered. In the end love will conquer all. Lots of graphic support makes the book a bit more accessible for intermediate readers, though the story line seems a bit complex at times.
Absolutely adorable! Another fangtastic Amelia Fang adventure. I love this series. It's so fun and light hearted. Who wouldn't love a series about a cute vampire, with an adorable pet pumpkin? Not to mention, a group of really awesome friends. I highly recommend this book, and the rest of the series, to not only children who like middle grade, but to anyone who is needing a pick me up. It doesn't take long to read these books. Not to mention, after reading them, you'll feel happier. We definitely need more happy, especially right now. Give this series a shot. You'll be glad that you did.
The illustrations are great, and there are lots of them too. And the surprises in the story are very unexpected, so it was hard to predict what happened, and that made it even better. I think it is really funny as well, and Amelia's pet pumpkin called Squashy is super cute. Tangine, another character, is half-fairy, half-vampire so that makes everything interesting. And Florence is quite a silly but funny character, but when she speaks, the writing is in capital letters, which I do not really understand.
