Welcome to Orville. You won't find it on a map and it is full of secrets...

Evan

Deana Thomason has had enough of heartbreak, and moving away from the city and into her grandmother's town seems like the perfect way to recuperate. The people are friendly, sometimes nosy, and everything has its charm...except maybe the cops.
Okay, one cop.
Evan Malone is the kind of confident man who gets on her nerves and her walls at the same time. He's charming. He's watchful.
He's dangerous.
But as it turns out, there are more dangerous things than a cop here, and Deana is in for a rude awakening as she finds Evan's protection drawing her closer to the town's secrets. In the end, she's left with two choices: run far away, or run into the arms of a man who stirs her soul--and who has more secrets than she could ever possibly imagine...
Garrett
As the peacekeeper of the vampires in a town where they aren't exactly adored, Angel Hayley is used to obstacles every single day--and it's not made easier when three strange vampires come in and wreak havoc.
Now she has to work with a cop: Garrett Limewell, who's about as righteous as anyone can get and is out to prove that she doesn't belong here. Well, two can play that game. In a battle of wits and survival, they come together: in heated words, burning touches and everything in between.
And Angel must resist it every step of the way, because there's an enemy hunting her--and it might be him...
Adam
Being the witch doctor of a town filled with supernatural beings isn't exactly easy, but it's a job Hazel Woodson is used to. They trust her, and she trusts them. She also lends a certain protection, one that keeps the town somewhat safe.
Except that protection is broken when a stranger comes into her house, bloodied and asking for help.
His name is Adam Ushmeg, and he's the most fascinating man she's ever met. He's ancient, and he's powerful--and he has enemies, creatures that will stop at nothing to get to him.
Now Hazel has to decide: keep Adam here and work with him, and try not to get too distracted by the heat burning between them.
Or she could drive him away and keep the town--and herself--safe for good...
Nikolai
Life as an outcast isn't as bad as everyone claims it to be, especially for a powerful witch like Irene Stanford. Sure, it gets lonely. But she gets more free time to experiment with her magic, and she's often out of trouble.
Which is why it comes as a rude surprise when Nikolai Bastet marches into her life and demands for assistance. He's the town's hotshot Sheriff, and she's always disliked their kind. But the man leaves her with no choice, and soon Irene finds herself involved in a tangle of fights, power struggles and a darkness that's far more dangerous than she's ever faced.
But there's one thing more dangerous: Nikolai himself, and how she's drawn to him when she can't be--not when it can mean his instant death...

Evan.
A fun introduction to the series.
I like the 'hidden paranormal town', though it could have used some more details and description.
Seems to be a common problem in these paranormal romance novella's.
The FMC was reasonably strong, smart enough, and wasn't 'constantly' controlled by her hormones.
The MMC was a fun, cliche good looking, alpha shifter.
I enjoyed this well enough.

Garrett.
Bloody hell!
The first went so well, sigh ...
Both MC's are immature, arrogant, and annoying.
Though the FMC is the worst. I so would have loved to have read her taken down a notch or two.
They spent the first half of the story childishly one-upping each other.
This, despite both having important jobs requiring a high level of responsibility, and an awareness of right and wrong (an Ambassador and representative for her kind, and a deputy).
The rest of the story improved in maturity and depth, it was also done in a manner that was evolutionarily believable.
I even began to truly like the male, and accept the female by the end.
What I truly loved and appreciated however, was the authors warning, mid story, of a possibly triggering scene.
It was such an aware and considerate choice to include. I've never come across such within a work before.
It enables a reader to enjoy her work, while still being prepared, rather than having to completely forego a story because they don't know when, where, or how the issue will present.
One more issue, I didn't understand the justification for the legal decision near the end, it was confusing, upsetting, and aggravating! It also didn't fit the world that had been created, a very large disappointment.
I did not enjoy this story.

Adam.

A nifty dragon shifter transient, searching for his mate.
Gee, I wonder who it will be ... ? Duh!
But of course, they jump right in, and rub our faces in the obvious.
What a disappointment.
More than the previous, this becomes about the romance. It's a romance-action, but still primarily the first. 😴
The woman is depressing, and never laughs.
If not for the action, and it's unexpectedly, unpredictable story, I might not have bothered.
But, the mystery and action squeezed in, was interesting. Just wished it could have been fleshed out more, and allowed to be a true, and complete narrative.
It's conclusion is left off, TBC in the last short.

Nikolai.

He's the man-whore from the third short. (They still treat male & female different, even with a female author. In the first short, a female who is presumed to be sleeping around, is spoken of negatively. You, KNOW, how the male is regarded, sigh...)

Spoiler alert* the bastard doesn't get his just desserts, be forced to experience his behaviour from the other perspective, or simply have his face rubbed, just a little bit, in his ass-hole-ness!
I wouldn't care so much, if he had just been honest, and dealt with those who understood, and agreed to the terms, BEFORE, he had sex with em. We know this isn't true though, because of the previous short and it's heroine.
Obviously I read that short first, developed an opinion of his character, and never had it believably changed, or him to make amends that satisfied. (Okay, so I'm a bitch, I acknowledge.)
The FMC knows his rep, he admits it, she accepts, everyones happy (except this reader 👿).
He decides he wants permanency, so of course she says yes.
It's not like I'm revealing any plot secrets here. Only it's lack of originality in the romance plot, and my ability to respect either MC.
Again, the squished in action-mystery-thriller, that was good. If the author would only focus there, and actually write the full story, she might have something really worthwhile...

All the characters will come out in the books someway just not strong in the books not about them. Some of the stories you could not put down others where almost as good. I received an arc copy for my honest review.

I received an ARC edition of this book from the author.

This is 4 novellas all set in the same town of Orville, a safe haven for paranormal creatures. Each story focuses on a different couple, though there is certainly some connections between the stories.

Evan: I liked Evan and Deanna's story. With Deanna being a human that is only just discovering the paranormal there was certainly some miscommunication issues, but nothing over-the-top. Both Evan and Deanna also had some stubbornness that added to their issues, but I think in the end they make a good match.

Garrett: This was my least favorite of the 4 stories. I had a few issues with the story leading up to the last bit, but it was mostly just coming across as a meh story. I felt like there were hints of issues with characters beyond the MCs that in a longer story could have been explored in more depth, but instead just felt like dropped plot points. The last part of the story had a warning thrown in right before a chapter, that while I think was very relevant, should really be part of the blurb and not thrown in after you are that far in the story. This story also really made me question the punishment structure in this town.

Adam: This one came across as odd to me (even if you don't count that it's between a dragon and a witch). Hazel seemed so hung up on the fact that Nik had commitment issues that she refused to even try a relationship with Adam. I spent most of the story wanting to shake them both for avoiding the oblivious. They seemed like there own stumbling block towards their HEA.

Nikolai: This story was a direct follow-up to Adam's story, and continues some of the plot arc. I wasn't sure I would like Nikolai after the last story, but he worked for me in this story. Ultimately I rather liked him and Irene together. For me this was a good final story for the collection.

Welcome to the small town of Orville where humans live side by side, and in peace, with creatures of the paranormal.  You'll encounter bear shifters, rogue shifters, vampires, fae, witches and psychics who will pull at your heart strings. be prepared to be surprised by cooperation between all peoples.  The four books are :-

Evan:-  A bear shifter and policeman. When a new inhabitant joins the town to take over the florist shop that her grandmother owned, Evan pays a visit and knows that Deanna is going to be very special in his life!

Garrett:- Another bear shifter and deputy sheriff in Orville.  When rogues attack and kill a well respected  member of the community who was a vampire.  So he ends up looking after three new vampires to the town and this means that he comes in contact with Angel. Angel, a vampire, is used to life being difficult but Garrett isn't making it any easier. But there is an attraction between them - no matter how hard they try to ignore it.

Adam:-  He appears at Hazel, the town's 'doctor' for help.  He is an ancient soul but keeps exactly what he is a secret as he doesn't want to lead to any harm coming to Hazel's door.

Nikoli :- The sheriff and bear shifter who is suspicious of everyone -  particularly the witch who is very powerful and lives like a hermit on her own.  But there is more to her than at first sight. Irene just wants to be left alone to practice her magic and this interfering sheriff is just getting in the way. And he is maddening!!!

This is one wonderful collection of stories by J.S. Striker that I thoroughly enjoyed reading one straight after the other.  I liked the style of writing and the wonderful, interesting storylines that kept me on my toes and wondering what was going to happen next.  If you haven't read any paranormal before then this is a great collection to help you get the 'bug'.  As it contains bear shifters, my favourites, this really appealed to me. I received a reader’s copy of this book and voluntarily leave my honest opinion of it here.

DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED

First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.

Deanna moves to Orville to run the flower shop her grandmother left her. It doesn't take long before she finds out that the town is a sanctuary for supernatural beings, & she's human. Evan is a deputy as well as a bear shifter, & things heat up between them. She's attacked & stalked. Gr8 story. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.

Garret is a deputy & a bear shifter. He's also 2nd in command after the sheriff. He has a bit of a bigotry towards vampires. Angel is a vampire in Orville & she works for the council integrating new vampires into the town. She also has a bit of bigotry toward shifters. Garret & Angel are forced by the council to work together & things change between them. Gr8 story. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.

Hazel is a witch doctor in Orville. She meets Adam & he's a shifter as well, but one she's never met before. Danger is chasing him, and he's searching for his mate. Gr8 story. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.

Nikolai is a bear shifter & the sheriff of Orville. Irene is a hermit & the baddest witch in town. They clash when Nikolai asks her to help the town against attack. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.

I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
There are four books or sections no titles but it starts with chapter one in “Bear Guards”.
Evan and Deana: Evan and Deana, a human finds her mate. Wonderful story and exciting.
Garrett and Angel: Strange and awesome story. Garett a bear shifter and Angel a vampire. A lot of growing and trying to help others see that they could live together and get along. But of course hate of something different will always incite violence.
Hazel and Adam: Hazel is a Witch and Adam is a Dragon shifter. Wow!! He stayed to help the towns people. Awesome story, I hope you like it as much as I have.
Nikolai and Irene: Nikolai is a Bear Shifter and the Sheriff, Irene is a powerful Witch. Getting ready to defend the town. What do you use? What you have of course. Shifters, Vampires, Witches, Dragons, Humans to watch the children. Then watch out.
All of these stories they are awesome. They have a true love that you can feel when reading. There is excitement, danger, and the need to do right. It's not just each other but the town as a whole. I wish there to be more of these books. We will see.

IT'S GETTING HOT IN HERE!!!
OMG! This is one simmering, two stepping, page turning read that captivates from the start and holds steady until the end. You have all the action, fast paced, nailbiting, nerve racking suspense that keeps you on a razors edge. The characters are intriguing, realistic and complex. Following along mesmerized as their personalities transform, blend and blossom. The heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, off the charts, white hot, explosive chemistry that flows smoothly through the pages are brilliantly presented in all their glory. The scenes so vividly detailed and descriptive it gives the illusion of being right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Twists, turns, unexpected surprises along with spine tingling danger around every corner keeps your attention and total focus on the tale as it unfolds before your eyes. Striker does an incredible job bringing this read to life. Remarkable job Striker, thanks for sharing this awesome tale with us.

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. Bear Guards by J. S. Striker is a four book series in one volume. This is a MUST READ book! I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a couple of hours of action, adventure, romance, steamy sex and kick ass characters. You have four different stories that all take place in the town of Orville, an others sanctuary, and are tied together by an underlying storyline. You get Evan and Deana's story in book one, Garrett and Angel's story in book two, Adam and Hazel's story in book three and Nikolai and Irene's story in book four which also has the culmination of the underlying storyline. I love that all the stories are written as almost stand alone, but you have that little thread the keeps pulling you along. There are bear shifters, wolf shifters, vampires, a dragon, witches, demons and a whole lot of fun. From start to finish you will find yourself riding the emotions and feeling the heat of this well written and totally immersive read. If you like Cassandra Clare, you will LOVE J. S. Striker!

It you like Shifter, touch of magic, danger and touching romance this is book for you!

Five books/,stories rolled up into one. They definitely could be read independent oh but best impact of read together. Each story has their own battle and romance and the end wraps it up to the finally. Evan protector over Deana a human in a magical town of witches, shifters and evil. This brings all civilized human qualities with the spin that they all have a special gift. Garrett 2nd in command working with a new city council potential has to secure the borders and learn about others and not to have such prejudices. Adam and Hazel once heart is hurt it really is a challenge for anyone to heal and win it over, Hazel a witch is a risky venture for most. Nicola the sheriff has to reach out to the hermit in the woods a witch Irene whom has been shunned and outcast and try to get the town to forgive and accept. The good vs. Evil and handing together was great. Violence 1, Sex1

4 Stories about a small town, a sactuary for shifters, witches, vampires and the occasional human.
Living peacefully together is encouraged, but there is trouble from time to time.
The police force is as mixed as the population, but mostly consists of bear shifters. This book tells the stories of how 4 of them find their mates while doing their job.
I loved reading the book, gliding from one story into the next as they kind of happen in a chronological order and there is always a thread from the former story going over to the next story to connect them. There is no overall story, covering all 4 books, but due to the connection from one to the other it feels like one big volume. I had received this book as an ARC, and this review is voluntary. I honestly enjoyed the book and am looking forward to hopefully read more about Orville.

This is a paranormal delight for that special kind of reader – those who love witches, vampires, shifters, dragons, you name it! And all located in a small town with secrets, where you just know that not everyone is going to get along. The characters are wildly different so hang on for the bumpy ride!

Aside from the mystery and suspense, these stories also have a relationship story, where mates find each other, but it isn’t always easy! These four stories will keep the reader happy and interested in finding out what the couples must face together.

I enjoyed the mix of supernatural beings and hope that the author will give us another such box set in the future.

What a fab series, and all in one place. All of the stories are are little slices of life in the police team (with a side order of witch and dragon relations) for Orville - a sanctuary for those paranormal creatures who live in this realm. There's an interesting mix of shifters, vamps, witches and humans. Punishments can be harsh, but when you are dealing with powerful creatures, that's to be expected. We see Evan, Garret and Nikkolai from the force and Hazel, a witch who helps stitch them together when they get hurt, find their HEA. Loved them all but really enjoyed Nikkolai and Irene's story, as it finally brings the whole town together to protect their little town.

I really liked these four stories based around the guards of the sanctuary city Orville. Orville is a sanctuary for all kinds of paranormal folks and humans that are in the know. Of course so many different people living in one town can sometimes lead to problems, that's what the bear guards are there for. The stories are just the right length for the development of the characters and the story. The characters really make each story unique and enjoyable. I enjoyed reading them and would recommend them to lovers of paranormal romance.

This set of stories is set in Orville, TX. The male characters -- Evan, cop; Garrett, filling in for the sheriff; Adam, strange shifter; & Nikoli, town sheriff. Each of their stories are about finding their mate and protecting there way of life in Orville (each is very action packed). Strike has created a town were different sups (shifters, vampires, witches, etc) can live and work together, all be it very difficult at times. These are four fantastic stories that are very well written. You will fall in love with each mated pair. Highly recommend this box set and hope there will be more to come.

Awesome story about shifters and their romances

A little town name Orville is a town for the Supernatural individuals, it is their sanctuary. The Supernatural who inhabited this town are humans, witches, shifters, and vampires who all want to live in peace. The bear shifters and the magic guards Orville from outsiders who would disturb that peace.

Each of the four stories about these Supernatural individuals and their romances covers a variety of plots that keep the reader entertained. I thoroughly enjoyed box set and would highly recommend it to readers who enjoy the supernatural romances.

What a great boxed set of books, especially if you love reading about bears and witches. So much animosity and differences between the cultures in the small little town of Orville. All of the characters are out of this world and some of them are the snarky little crank pots of the world that are judgmental and full of hate, UNTIL they meet their mate and all things change for the better. MUST READ, you will thoroughly enjoy a ride of your life adventure with this box set.

So very good I read it non-stop til finished.

This is a great set of stories about the officers of the sheriff's department in Orville, Texas. Orville is a sanctuary city for vampires, shifters and witches. I was captivated by each story, but my very favorite one was Irene and Nic. Adam and Hazel were really cute, too. Actually, thinking about it they were all great. I love books by this author.

There’s lots of action like I enjoy in this book and fast paced. It has lots of suspense. There’s HOT shifters that are all different but boy are they all amazing! Each story is good and different from the last but is still about the same town and has the people there. It also introduces more people in each following book.

Very good

I very much liked ThinkPad set it has everything a good story should have. Strong women to compliment strong men who have to save themselves and their town.
The only thing I did not like was that the stories just seemed to end without a clear ending. U would have like it to be rounded up a bit more.

This novel of 4 is great the town could of been discredited better, but how your given more of a insight of the struggle of falling for a shifter. The fact all 4 shifters are unique not just different animals that are in a crow Evan better they only connected by law enforcement. How they don't just fall for humans or other shifters and the mix with witches and vampires

Loved it

Loved all about it! The romance was great and I liked that there were parts of the storyline that wasn't all romance and happy ever after......some of which was quiet sad.
Although the stories were short-ish nothing felt rushed.
Really a great read
