Proxima Centauri is a new series by Image Comics. I literally knew nothing about it when I picked it up, but Image has been taking a lot of fun risks lately so I’m willing to reward that by giving most of their new series a try.
The storytelling style for this series is a little bit scattered and rushed, but it does have potential. I’m not going to pretend that I understood everything that was happening, but I expect a lot of it will get explained further in the series. Clearly the goal for this issue was to grab our attention and curiosity.
I really love the rougher art style for this series. You can clearly tell it was all hand drawn – something you don’t see all of the time these days. The plain backgrounds was an interesting choice, but I actually think it really complemented the art style perfectly.

This issue #1 left me more lost than I like to be after paying $4. The art isn't to my preference, but if the story is good, that doesn't matter so much. Looks like we have a couple more issues in the waiting-to-read pile, so I'll be giving it a bit more of a go, and see if the story becomes more comprehensible to me.

Bizarre, and not in a good way. Lacks structure or any idea of the rules of this story’s world, and everything feels random as a result. The art is okay. Usually I’ll finish a mini-series like this, but this just doesn’t hold interest for me.

This was very visually compelling, but there was no way to make heads or tails with what was happening in the story. They were jumping to all different places and there were just a lot of complaints. It was hard to have sympathy for the main character when I couldn't figure out what was going on.
