Yikes!

Not sure where the 5 star ratings came from, but obviously they didn't read this book. It was a nightmare.

Let me start out with what I liked about this book and why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. I liked that the characters were flawed. Too many books have the perfect characters with perfect jobs, perfect looks, perfect families, perfect everything which makes books unbelievable. I liked the author changed that up. I also liked that this isn't one of those horrible billionaire books. The characters in this book worked and struggled for everything they got and at the end it worked out for them.

Now to what was terrible about the book... This book was 200+ pages so the author had plenty of time to develop these characters and their relationship, but she failed. I wasn't expecting for Alexis to meet Jordan then 2 days later move in with him and 2 days after that both are saying 'i love you.' Yet, Alexis kept saying she didn't need a man, but apparently she did. Since the relationship was so rushed I didn't feel the chemistry between the 2. She ran into this guy in a kitchen eating and had a 2 minute conversation with him about nothing and he invites her to live with him. Why did Jordan love her so much? What did he see in her to make him risk everything? Why open his home to a stranger? Same goes for her. What's funny is, that the author asked these questions in book and they were left unanswered. They came across as teenagers, playing house. The relationship was very immature. After every argument Alexis was ready to leave and loved giving ultimatums. The points where the author tried to make her seem like a strong, independent woman, were laughable because she was anything but that.

The Big Donnie story line was unbelievable. Jordan constantly going to his house to talk things out actually be able to just leave was unbelievable. The racist cousin and the Klan group showing up to take out Big Donnie for Alexis at the end was unbelievable. The typos were outrageous.

This book could have been awesome if the author hadn't rushed it and planned the book out. I will try this author one more time, to see if her writing has improved, if not I definitely won't try her again.

I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this story, which the characters go from rags to comfortable living. This was a different story line, but it keeps you reading to the end to find out what happened. There are several twists and turns within the story that makes it interesting—I was surprised what happened in one episode. I liked the characters of Jordan and Alexis. Alexis was a former stripper, and she was removed from that lifestyle to another agonizing lifestyle—living with a self-made millionaire Big Donnie, who is dangerous, possessive, and he would verbally abuse Alexis, try to control her, and exploit her sexually. Alexis meets Jordan at an art show that she attends with Big Donnie in which Jordan’s art was on display. Eventually, Jordan and Alexis’ chemistry is inevitable. This book will pique your interest. Will Alexis leave Big Donnie for Jordan? Will Big Donnie prevent Jordan from being with Alexis? Will Jordan and Alexis have a HEA?

This book was horrible. The characters were totally unlikeable and one dimensional, whiny and just plain awful. The prose was not well done, the punctuation and grammar looked like it was done by someone who didn't know basic grammar rules and spelling was atrocious. I found several mistakes and was barely 25% of the way through the book. I had to quit reading. I'm actually going to delete the book from my account. The only redeeming quality is that the book was free.

Average Read

Not enough excitement for my taste. Big Donnie appeared to be a big bully at first. I really didn't care about Jordan's character at first. He appeared too weak for my taste. Such a powerless man would not have confronted a major crime lord as many times. I also didn't like his struggle with alcohol. I did like the hea ending of love triumph over all.

Great read!

*****SPOILER*****

I wish Jordan had thrown lye in Big Donnie and his goon's faces. I'm glad his fat a$$ got locked up. I also wish there had been a description of his reaction when he learned Alexis got her sight back.

Not enjoyable

This book has no premise or character development. The characters are cartoonish and nothing makes sense. Why would a complete stranger endanger their life for someone who spoke to them one time?

Suspense

I enjoyed this book. The characters were relatable and endearing. There were plenty of surprises and suspense. I liked how there was a real ending to the story showing years down the line. I am a fan of Ms Black, keep writing.

I did not like this book it was kind of cloudy. It was slow. I think if you are more of a creative art person you may like this book.
