LAPD Homicide detective and marathon runner Devlin Wylde always knew what to do in every situation...until his wife, Hanna, disappeared into the Santa Monica Mountains on a solo training run. Desperately searching for answers, Devlin’s only solace is to throw himself into his work, and to run, and run, and run.
Protecting the cougars in the rugged wilderness where she vanished was Hanna Wylde’s passion. When the victim of a serial killer is discovered in the same area, Devlin goes on high alert. His only clues are the tracks of a large wild cat, and a strange, bare-footed, woman runner who is faster than anything he’s ever seen on two legs.

This novella about LAPD homicide detective Dev Wylde is another excellent murder mystery by veteran LAPD detective turned author, Paul Bishop. Like his previous police procedural novels, this story is fascinating in part because Bishop includes many details about the clues and techniques real homicide detectives use to solve cases. As an animal lover, I also especially liked another key aspect of the story that involves cougars, and one mysterious cougar in particular. To say any more would give away the highly creative and satisfying ending. I’ve never read anything quite like RUNNING WYLDE. I highly recommend it.
It's hard for a guy who truly knows the ins and outs of police work to disguise his expertise. Blend that with great compelling writing and you have Bishop's incredible writing. This is one of several of his I've read and it seems each gets better and more can't-put-it-down! Don't miss Running Wylde.
I love short stories and this one is very visual with a poignant end. This was well written with just enough mystery to keep me hoping for some peaceful resolution for Dev. Good stuff!
Mysterious, Action-Packed into the Unknown! Bishop creatively blends mystery and murder with a bit of the outdoors and a touch of romance, all enhanced with a possible third dimension! A very enjoyable short story.
