The Blood of Tyrants is a thriller novel by author M.P. MacDougall and the first in the Lawson Holland Thrillers series. Set in the genre of political and military thriller fiction, the plot follows central character Lawson Holland, a retired Navy SEAL, who is inevitably pulled back into the real world to encounter a war he never wanted to be part of. Torn between the personal issues surrounding his previous career and his duties to the nation he once swore to serve, Holland is swept into a cyclone of terrorism with violence at every turn. When his limited options are put before him, Holland knows that violence can only be met with more violence before the bloodbath will end.

Despite the high level of reference to violence in The Blood of Tyrants, the novel is not especially graphic, and I appreciate how much fear and suspense author M.P. MacDougall can create without having to resort to shock value. The character of Lawson Holland was well painted right from the start, a relatable man who leaps from the page, demanding both respect and empathy from readers. The plot is suitably complex for the genre of political thriller and sure to please regular readers in this vein, but as a relative newbie to the genre I still found it very accessible, intriguing but easy to follow. Overall, I’d certainly recommend The Blood of Tyrants to existing thriller fans and, for those who’ve never tried the genre before, you couldn’t find a better introduction than the work of M.P. MacDougall.

This book is a strange one, gives a good glimpse as to what could occur if far left leadership gets their way in America.

I Stumbled Upon a Great One!

Most of you know that feeling when you've read all of the books by your favorite authors and you are sitting with your Kindle thinking "what now?".

That was me two days ago. Out of books, waiting for " my" authors new works to come out and I didn't have a good recommendation. And then it happened, I picked up a copy of this Lawson Holland and BAM! GOT HIT IN THE FACE WITH IT!

Wow, did I get lucky! Great plot, great characters and it was what I wanted! Spec ops guys running around doing what they do (in these books of fiction). I normally read Clancy, Thor, Flynn, Greaney, Nealen, etc. and this book had me the ing pages deep into the night! I can't wait to get to the next one!

Fantastic

I was completely taken in with this story. It was loaded with the workings of government, etc that average people don't know. Even though story is fiction, i feel that I have a better understanding of how things work. I really had a hard time putting this book down to even eat a meal. Excellent job, Highly recommend reading.

Enjoyed the book very much and would recommend it highly, my only complaint being it has no ending and I assume you get answers in book 2 so more expense
