Better known is the October 1917 revolution by the Bolsheviks led by Lenin. However, the book traces the genesis of this revolution, beginning with the overthrow of Czar Alexander and establishment of interim government led by Mensheviks and final takeover by the Bolsheviks. Despite the paucity of space, the intrigues entailing these "revolutions" are pretty lucidly outlined.

So there are two "Short Read" history series that I do on Amazon - the concept is amazing, and I love it especially getting an hour refresher on an historical event that's related to the book I'm either reading or about to read - BUT Hourly History is definitely the superior series. Captivating History - which this Russian Revolution summary was done by - was a bit all over the place and was missing critical information that made time lines and locations etc a bit difficult to place. For example, at one point it mentioned Lenin coming out of exile when it wasn't stated that he was put in exile in the first place. I understand it's a lot of information to cram into a short 50~ page book, but key information was missing which made it difficult to follow at times. Also Nicolas II's assassination was one sentence which made me cock my head to the side before moving on in the reading.

Served its purpose for the most part, but I would much rather go with Hourly History than Captivating History from now on. (When I was searching, HH didn't have a Russian Revolution one, so if that's still the case, let's make that happen guys! :D)

kindle unlimited, one of the areas that I know less about than others, which is odd if you realize I mean that I know more about ancient history of all sorts but not something closer in years.

World War 1 and Russia

I have read quite a few books on World War 1 and I have been intrigued by what was going on during World War 1 in Russia. The Russian Revolution has given me a better understanding of what was going on during that time and also it has given me different topics that I can further explore thanks Captivating History

Very interesting slick history writing

The writer style is really slick and interesting, it really kept me hooked on the book to finish it all in 1 day
The way he demonstrated the flow of events and highlighted the big inflection points and major changes happened really gave a clear picture.

He has very thoughtful conclusions and comments as well

Well-written account of the Russian Revolution and provides a solid basis for further study. Has timeline and bibliographic references, which all good overviews should offer. Highly recommended.

Mostly about 1917 and summarizes the build up and the aftermath (civil war to Lenins death).

If you have a revolution, be sure to get the Railroad Union on your side.
