Federal agent Alexis Parker is on a quest to find the truth...
When a bomb goes off in the middle of the night, no one hears the blast except an anonymous tipster. The office building is empty, but the rooms are locked up tight. Even the police and fire department are unable to bypass the advanced security systems. What goes on inside this building? Why was it targeted? The company is a front for something, and based on their abrupt disappearance and the professional clean-up job, Agent Alexis Parker is positive it's a government cover-up.
While pursuing a lead, she crosses paths with some covert government agents whose only mission is to protect the secrets held within the bombed building, even if that means sabotaging the FBI's investigation. The stakes get even higher when evidence points to an anarchist hacker group being responsible for the IED. The CIA turned one of the hackers, and now the anarchist group might be seeking revenge. The only thing Alex can do is lead a manhunt to find the bomber and the rogue hacker before another detonation rocks the city and she ends up caught in the crossfire. Will she be able to stop the chaos and carnage that accompany total anarchy?

Another excellent book in the Alexis Parker series! You love her or hate her but she finds a way to protect her country in her role as FBI, support her colleagues & give her loyalty & love to her friends. She's tough & fragile & her own worst enemy. Can't wait to see what she chooses next!
Alexis is back, attempting to find a balance, so her relationship with James Martin has a future. Co signing on a new apartment for weekend liaisons is a big commitment for her, but something she wants badly. Work continues to control her life & she wants to lay claim to a small amount of time for herself & the most important relationship she has ever had. Called to the site of an explosion in an empty building, no casualties & no info available, it is found to be a CIA black location, reputedly a telecoms company, nothing bears this out. They want help with a situation they are unable to control, but want everything on their terms. Alexis is kidnapped outside the new apartment and taken to an disclosed location where she is questioned by a CIA agent, who she later finds out is called Reece & he features throughout the book as an obnoxious pain in the butt, to both Alexis and her colleagues. The storyline is based upon the actions of a group of anarchist hackers, who believe all information should be freely available to everyone. Needless to say this goes against policy, and the CIA have captured one of the group, encouraging him to work for them against internet hacking. Following the casualty free bombing, a further incident is traced to Turkey - the bombs are designed to disrupt electrical systems & have knocked out super computers at both locations. The anarchists want Kiter, their captured member released and have threatened further bombings if their demands are not met. The novel moves at a fast paced throughout, and as usual Alexis Parker is in the thick of it. A very good read.
Alex is back. She and Martin are feeling their way along, trying to rebuild the relationship and trust. She gets caught up in a literal war between the CIA and Sharks, A group of geniuses with computers and tech that are against all government. One of their members is being detained by the CIA and they wan him back. All the chaos concludes and Jab lonely and Alex are being investigated for misconduct which Alex ends by resigning to keep Mark from being fired and losing his pension.
Alex seems to make crimes harder than ought to be. Her main objective is to fight crime but she thinks she should be at the crime scenes. This causes a lot of tension with Martin and her. I think she is finally understanding how to act while loving Martin. The end has a surprise, now you can read and see for yourself what happens.
This book was okay. The bomb story was a bit annoying after the repeat questions and actions, then the whole thought that Martin could be cheating came across, and Alex never even mentioned it to him. It's annoying how they are trying, yet they keep so much from each other.
Yet another amazing installment in the series. Humor, terror, suspense, and our favorite interpersonal relationships. The ending could not have made me happier, and I cannot wait to see what comes next for our amazing heroine.
This book Brings Alexis Parker to some dangerous but real choices. In the end it is almost like the decision was made for her all along. Alexis is making decisions for her and Martin now.
I’m always up for adventure and this book had some of everything. Technology, mystery and happy endings! Switching Alexis path to something else to allow another path to open was timely,
Wow, I didn't think Alex would -- SPOILER ALART -- ever truly be done with the OIO. I'm looking forward to seeing where she lands. And I'm rooting for her and Martin.
***SPOILER ALERT***Alex unwittingly and unwillingly becomes part of a CIA situation involving an anarchist group and an asset who they’ve turned.
It starts with Mark and Alex investigating a bombing in a seemingly deserted building, leading to Alex and Martin being taken and her being questioned in a white room, then becoming part of a secret mission.
Meanwhile, Alex and Martin get an apartment to spend weekends together as they rebuild their trust. But, Alex still has to literally run out on him when duty calls.
Lots of frustration with the CIA agent working with them, but not really playing well with others. Heathcliff and Jacobs do much better working as a team, and they all catch the bomber minus the CIA.
Great book, but it was silly that Alex missed the second accident reported by the rookie after she’s hurt chasing down the asset. Love the PD detectives, Mark is amazing, and Martin, the best guy ever.
I’m actually glad Alex is moving on, I liked her doing her PI and consulting roles with law enforcers. I’m sure her pals will continue to be involved, too, they’re a staple.
