Stopped at 7% and DNF. 1888 London: seriously?

The author tried too hard for sexiness & forgot the
love story? IE A married couple, friends of the hero,
told him early on, that the heroine (the wife's friend)
was not a virgin. Just tacky. Which caused the hero to
make assumptions....

THINK BEFORE YOU ACT

A great addition to the Rakes of Mayfair series with a story that is full of mystery, suspense, secrets, deception, betrayal, artifacts, and murder. Gabriella Saunders has ambitions to be a female reporter; she will be turned down, only allowed to handle secretarial jobs at The Sentinel newspaper office. Sent out on assignment with Wilcox, to act as a couple in the park, she will observe many pickpocket transactions that Wilcox misses. When she calls him out, he will cause trouble for her at work, but the time at the park will reunite an old acquaintance, Charlotte.

Gabriella Saunders lives in London, works for The Sentinel newspaper, but can’t be recognized as a reporter. She is allowed to help the men reporters with their articles and do secretarial work. Kicked out of her home for trusting her fiancé into a tryst before their wedding, she left home and has never had a thing to do with her family. It comes as a surprise to see her friend, Charlotte Hudson, now Essex.

Lord Fergus McIntyre is the second son of a Baron. He is taken with Gabby immediately, and with the help of his friends, Lord and Lady Essex, he is determined to get to know Gabby, not just as acquaintances, but intimately. He is open and honest about wanting her in his bed and that he will seduce her. Their conversations are risqué but honest.

“Reading erotica has nothing to do with trusting someone. She felt safer than she ever had in her life. It was a feeling she never wanted to let go of.”

Gabby is a persuasive person, but Fergus refuses to allow her to investigate the pickpocket scheme they have both witnessed in the park, alone. Making plans to come back late at night to see what they can uncover, brings about more mystery than answers. Why are there Egyptian artifacts where the pickpockets go to turn in the items they lift?

Fergus and Gabby’s relationship sizzles and has quickly changed to lovers, and he knows she is the right woman for him. He loves her creativity, her ambition, but he is also concerned about her impulsiveness, especially when she doesn’t stop to think things completely through.

“Decisions made in haste always cause troubles,” she said. “I learned that early in my life.”

“It has to do with you acting before you realize the consequences of your actions. You must learn to obey me Gabby. Your independence is good in some things. But I will not allow it to put your life in danger. Do you understand me?”

The story will include scenes with Lord and Lady Essex at a Rakes club meeting that Gabby will witness and learn more about the Rakes of Mayfair. She will also be made a member and must pay her dues at a club meeting when Fergus devises a great punishment for her because of her rash actions.

There is erotic chemistry between Fergus and Gabby, and she thrives off of his dominance and control. The story has public punishments, exhibition, explicit sex scenes, voyeurism, D/s, and creative writing of erotic scenes.

His Curious Imp is the fourth book in the Rakes of Mayfair Series, but can be read as a stand alone. Gabby has dreams of becoming a reporter, cracking cases open and writing for the newspaper. With a chance encounter with one of her school friends, she meets Lord Fergus, and she’s immediately intrigued and drawn to him. She knows her reputation will never allow them to be together, but she’s determined to have fun with him, as they try to solve the mystery of stolen Egyptian artifacts. Soon she’s living a life she’s only dreamed about, being encouraged and loved, but with her curious nature, will she solve the case, or will she only get herself hurt?

Oh my gosh, I absolutely loved this book! I was so intrigued by the world that Ms. Barron had created, it was decadent, delightful, and just a smidge naughty! Gabby was wonderful, curious about the world around her, wanting to be taken seriously, and with a past and reputation that only made her stronger and more resilient. Fergus was one who liked to be in control, could keep Gabby in line, and was very creative! I loved how their minds worked together, loved their interactions, and loved their intimate moments, too. I loved that they were two people who loved to be in control of their lives, and they were joining together in all ways. This was such a great read, and I’m very interested in the previous books, as well as seeing how this series will grow!

Gabrielle’s ambition is to be a reporter but women at that time were only allowed to be secretaries. A male reporter was investigating a string of pickpockets and Gabrielle was part of his cover. While on assignment, she encounters her dearest friend Charlotte that she hasn’t seen in many years. Along with Charlotte is her husband, Lord Dalton Essex and their friend Lord Fergus McIntyre. Fergus is intrigued by Gabby and pursues her. Charlotte tells her husband and Fergus about how Gabby was turned out by her parents in the middle of the night after they learned she had given herself to her fiancée who then refused to marry her prior to the ceremony. While watching for pickpockets she stumbles across a much larger crime ring involving Egyptian artifacts. Fergus decides it is too dangerous for her to be involved in this by herself so he assists. In the process, Fergus declares his interest in her and the challenge to bed her within one week is made. The book is a great read involving a high spirited independent woman and the man who wants to claim her. There is a lot more to the book and I would highly recommend it.

His Curious Imp is another charming entry in the Rakes of Mayfair series, and can easily be enjoyed as a standalone. This time Gabby Saunders, a childhood friend of Charlotte from previous books in this series, is struggling to become a reporter. Currently, she types notes for other reporters and while in a park posing undercover for a story, she meets Charlotte once again. Charlotte introduces Gabby to her husband Dalton, and to their friend, Fergus, Lord McIntyre. Sparks fly as Fergus is captivated by this independent woman. There is a great mystery involving Egyptian artifacts, a spirited romance between classes, some very steamy encounters, and of course, The Rake's Club. Like previous books in this series, the book is fast-paced, humorous, and engaging. This story is a little longer than the others with an intriguing full fledged mystery and I loved every minute of it!

No Woman Reporter Allowed

Gabriella Saunders a friend of Charlotte Essex, the Virgin Widow has a great desire to become a reporter for a leading newspaper.

However, because she is a woman she is only hired to transcribe a male reporter's notes and doing correspondence.

Gabby has a secret Lord McIntyre finds out about her love for reading erotica.
Together the two work together to find out what's happening with the pickpockets but also with the Egyptian artifacts. While doing this together causing their relationship to sizzle.

Also, as usual, the club members join in helping solve the crimes and solve Gabby's problem of wanting to be a reporter.

Find out what happens. Another great read!

Book four in the Rakes of Mayfair series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone. Each book is about a different member of the Rakes of Mayfair club and their HEA. I like that other members of the club make appearances as secondary characters. There is a little bit of mystery and suspense in this book as well as all the books in the series. Gabby is very independent living on her own and working in a newspaper office. She wants to be a reporter and looking for stories leads her to act before thinking. Once Lord Fergus McIntyre meets her he decides to seduce her, but he may need to discipline her first.

His Curious Imp is book four of the Rakes of Mayfair series. It can be read as a standalone. Gabby wants to be a reporter, when she meets her childhood friend again, Charlotte introduces Gabby to her husband and Fergus. Gabby and Fergus are smitten with each other, and Fergus soon realizes that Gabby needs someone who takes care of her.

Gabby and Fergus had some great chemistry, I loved how Fergus did take care of Gabby. Their lovemaking was sensual and very hot and I also loved the mystery with the artifacts. The book was a very entertaining read.

This is another good story in the Rakes of Mayfair Series. I have read several of the other stories and enjoyed them, and this is consistent in style and topic with the others. Gabriella and Fergus are two energetic, intelligent and amusing characters who fall in love quickly – and that love affair involves a lot of spanking, as well as solving a serious series of crimes. The supporting characters are numerous and interesting, and there is a light hearted tone to the book that I really enjoyed.

I once again enjoyed another book by Melinda Barron. This one has depth and twists to this tale about a young woman, Gabby who works for a newspaper typing up notes for the reporters and Lord Fergus a member of the Rakes of Mayfair. Lord Fergus meets Gabby and becomes smitten by her. Fergus is strong, handsome, and opinionated while Gabby is sassy, beautiful, and intelligent. Get ready for a heart stopping journey as Gabby tries to uncover who is stealing artifacts and Fergus tries to keep her safe in the mean while.

His Curious Imp is the newest addition to the Rakes of Mayfair series. It can be read as a stand alone but I always love when I can catch a glimpse of previous characters from previous stories. I love Gabby’s curiosity and I adore Fergus. I love how supportive he is of Gabby. He is a man ahead of his time. However he won’t put up with her putting herself in danger and he is very creative with punishment. This story has a nice mystery to it and is a very nice read. Not my normal type of historical romance. There was a plot but I didn't care for the very intimate scenes depicted in the book. I would have thought women of this era were more inhibited and would not have gone along happily with some of the scenes in the book.Spoiler- I also don't think that a lord of this period would accept a women who was not a virgin as his wife- more mistress material. I would not read another book by this author but if you are someone who likes this genre it may appeal to you

I've read a few books in this series & I'm pleased that they're standalone. I hate reading books to discover they are part of a series that you need to have read all of the previous ones to know what's going on. I had no problem following this read. It was an enjoyable story that moved along at a nice pace. However, it really felt like a modern story that happened to take place in a historical setting - I found the language & situations far too modern for the setting. That said, it was a pleasant time filler with good characters.

I enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it.
I love the different elements in this story. It's very interesting and easy to read. It's also a lot of fun. There is very hot chemistry and respect in the interaction between Gabby and Fergus. It's sweet. All the characters are well done. This series moves along. And there could be lots more to this series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and I highly recommend it. An enjoyable romp part of an addictive series.

This addition to the Rakes of Mayfair had more story than bedroom, though the bedroom was by no means ignored. The premise was a bit different for a historical. I am not sure about believability, but since I read for the purpose of escape, it really doesn't matter. Gabby and Fergus clicked rather nicely though I still feel a bit rushed at the end. Things get wrapped up too neatly, too quickly. Otherwise, nice bedtime story.

Gabby wants to be a writer but women don't have reporter jobs they are only
good enough to type the articles for the paper. Gabby wants more and she meets
Lord Fergus McIntyre catches onto Gabby and keeps Gabby safe and goes on her
outings for the big story of a pickpocket ring. She is falling for Fergus as he is also
falling for her.

A strong woman and a protective man. A bit of kink and dirty moments. Chemistry and emotions all over. Passionate steamy scenes and twists that keeps you on the edge. All this mixed with drama, action, mystery and a historical romance then you have an amazing and enjoyable read.
Different than others because of the strong and curious female characters.

How interesting. A woman who wants to be a reporter back when women rarely worked, much less were reporters. Gabby is striving for more independence, for herself. Yet she is drawn to Lord Fergus, who is protective. There is a push and pull. But there is also a whole lot of sizzle!

Best of the series so far

This has more of a storyline and interactions between the lead characters that didn't always rely on sex and discipline.
