Missy DeMeanor is a Hit

I really liked this compendium of the series "Missy DeMeanor" for the feel-good qualities of the heroine. She is a truly happy person in spite of her faults, and keeps going no matter what or who pops up to stop her.

Anyone who likes a spunky lead character with realistic life situations, will enjoy this series!

I love being able to read all the books in order at one time!

Normally after reading poorly written book, I do not continue to read any more books in that series. I read all 6 books in this series so I could give a complete review. After finishing the first one my reaction was that it was written by a very immature person. Imagine my surprise when a character in the second book had the same thought about a book she had read. By the end of the second book I was thoroughly disgusted by the seeming incompetence of the police procedures and our criminal justice system being portrayed in the book. In the third book, a police officer mentioned how writers always get police procedures wrong! All of these things combined with terrible characters, incomplete sentences, misspelled words, misplaced facts, confusing timelines, and obvious solutions, makes this a series that I do not recommend. The main character, Missy, constantly whines and seems extremely self conscious of her weight, yet notes that every man she meets comments on how beautiful she is or at least “checks her out.” Even the main premise of the series, that Missy solves all of these murders, is inaccurate. Missy bumbles around, hasn’t a clue what is going on around her, and only survives by pure luck. She is extremely rude to people, is highly offended when people are the least bit rude to her, and is unbelievably possessive of her friends.

After reading books one and two and starting book three I put this down and went to read something else. The heroines obsession with her weight makes for very unpleasant reading. The books aren't bad, but the constant obsessiveness with weight I just couldn't take anymore.

A delightful series

I found this volume to be a delight and really enjoy reading about Missy and her mysteries. The writing was well done, the plot always interesting and the mystery entertaining. The first few books do have a lot of angst in the romance department but once decisions are made, it gets more mellow and happier.

This is a lazy afternoon read and quite a predictable whodunit. What doesn't sit well is though the lead Missy though is an amateur sleuth she literally wings it throughout her solving skills or lack of it and for their bad luck the person who supposedly has done it just confesses. So it's a very silly kind of solving method because through the next novel she's credited for knowing her job. Also I find boring is I have no clue how fat she is but it gets tiresome reading her feel so down and forever on the road to self pity in every chapter and novel about her so called heavy weight. Maybe the next series can have her more level headed and sorted if there is a continuity of Missy a.k.a .The other really annoying and very thoughtless part I found was that there were some kind of flirting or talks of personal happiness that Missy indulges in during a murder viewing or funeral. Like who does that. Isn't she supposed to be morose, down and sad about loosing her friends as claimed by her that they were her good friends. That really grated on my nerves for every single novel followed this line except the last one. So though it's an ok read it really can do with some proper editing and not an haphazard endings or whoosh this is the killer! Done, no sensible logic to back it up. And for her next series or books the Author definitely needs a good editor. The novels have issues with grammar and typos.

Great set of books!

As always, I love to have a set of books to read. It's nice to be able to go from one book to the next without having to go searching, to say nothing of the great value in buying a set. Missy is a big, beautiful and compassionate woman who spends her life loving her high school sweetheart, fighting her weight, and solving murders. In several of these books she almost becomes the murdered person. Give this author your undivided attention with these 6 books.

Great books

Just finished all 6 excellent books. Love Missy DeMeaner. I was stumped at "who done it" . Great mysteries with just enough romance. Highly recommend all 6 of Ms. Bates books.

Fun Series

I liked that the books could be read in any order but it was great to build the characters over time. The aynx over friendship, responsibilty, and love made the books fun reads.

kindle unlimited, but one of my freebie/owned ones, got as 6 set for free, and still totally want refund and damages & apologies #1 #6 & 6 books set on freebie days, usually prefer set because easier to deal with on my reader but this was a mishmash of lucking out on 'solving' things, unbelievable happenstance and coincidences, and whining and whinging on about weight including totally false/fake information about various diets and what does and doesn't work and especially how long it takes to show up on scales when something was added/binged or not/overate/wrong things eaten etc, with 4 'forgetting' that in 3 her phone was destroyed so how did she have a phone in 4 because definitely didn't have money to buy new one as wasn't even doing basic maintenance on old truck she got for FREE but never bothers to take care of even though it's free transportation & enables her to haul things for her so called flea market/yard sales etc, then there is every single book repetitive phrases used and worse they are used in same paragraphs, plus total lack of spell checking/grammar issues and just all around will they won't they oh no let's obsess about the weight some more, and total will never make sense is the cardboard characters and situations combined with the relatively simple task of the cover picture showing a MAYBE slightly overweight but not really character but definitely NOT the BBW or 'carries weight well because of height' and definitely not someone who would be considered with huge breasts nor worthy of anyone's 'chubby chasing', total waste of agonizing 6 book set.

Seriously need to make out character/info sheet because in some books she works x mount of hours every day at bookstore, at others she works more, one book she worked doubles because of the boss' vacation, and in 4 it says she works a few hours ONCE a week, yeah whatever. BTW someone needs to explain to me how someone knows it's a light beer, when it's brought over in a glass, the type is not menioned by either party, and don't change someone's name to what appears to be nickname but isn't because it's just wrong/typo. As with the phone, the truck miraculously shows up again, running, and really isn't mentioned/bothered with again, slobby sloppy 'plot' and details throughout the entire set of 'stories'. Would recommend this book to my worst enemy. The overall blurb for this series is below, but please note that the actual scrapbooking/book clubbing/flea market-redoing is actually few and far betweem, as it's mostly her caracature whiney immature self bumbling along worse than Barney Fife with no Andy Taylor in sight and someone gave him more than the 1 bullet for his gun.

FLEA. MARKET. A lot of beginnings with this book, and you wondered which the book was going to be about. Her weight, flea market, murder, why her Dad didn’t go into business with the now deceased, and then having dated Tyler for two years. Overall well written, good mystery, I like Missy and her friends, and Cody.
BOOK CLUB Disagreement at a bookclub, two women, and now one of them turn up murdered. Missy maybe an amateur, but can she find the real killer. This one has some surprises along the way, enjoyable cozy mystery.
DIET CLUB. Losing weight can be deadly,an invite that is to be a secret. The how to do it, turned out deadly for an old friend of hers. Well written
SCRAPBOOKING Reevaluating life choices, and some are being done without her having any say in them. Someone she has always known and special to her is murdered, with Vincent and the police to help her solve. Know can she solve her love life, and give Vincent a chance.
TEA ROOM TOXIN. A big celebration for Noreen, opening the tea room, Missy best friend. Now marred with the murder of her partner, and it was Missy who gave her the deadly tea. Funny, with twists, to getting it solved.
EXERCISE. EXPIRED. Working now in the tea room, a wedding come up with Tyler. Her last time for herself, and maybe to lose those last few pounds, at this exercise getaway. One participant, didn’t fit in, and was it an accident or murder, for Missy to solve.
Can read one or all, these are good cozy mystery, with unique friends.

The lazy guy’s diet

This is a series that would have gotten under my skin 4 or 5 years ago.
After years of “you need to lose some weight ... watch what you eat, get some exercise, and quit smoking” I was diagnosed with diabetes and had to take insulin. The insulin was the answer ‘cuz I HAD to watch what I ate in order manage insulin dosages. Over a couple of years, watching carb-intake and ignoring calories, I found myself no longer needing the insulin had dropped 40 pounds. I found that my eating habits had changed and become a part of my normal routine. I’ve not gained any of that weight back and enjoy finding clothes I no longer wear because they are too big. Pass this note on to Missy, maybe it will remove the scale and the mirror from her list of enemies.
Oh, and thanks for a good read.

Lots of continuity issues. I loved the character of both Missy and the others built into the community. It's really effective and pulls the reader in. It's a great clean and wholesome cozy with some good story lines. Unfortunately things get lost in the mix and there were a few times I ended up scrolling back and forth to try and work out the kinks for myself. Continuity is probably the biggest issue.

Missy comes across as very naive and I'm not sure that's what the author intended. The whole friendship issue with Norma left me feeling a little cold and I thought it was resolved well...until the next book. Then I ended up shaking my head and Missy lost some credibility with me then.

I thought the love interest was drawn really well. Awesome actually.
A well-deserved 4 stars.

Okay read

Missy DeMeanor is a bookselling, scrapbooking, furniture refurbishing, reading fanatic with a penchant for mysteries. When people begin dyeing around her, she begins investigating in order to clear those suspected of murder and to find answers for her own sake.

Fun, lighthearted, reads. However, timeline discrepancies, grammatical errors, word usage issues and other errors make the books appear very childishly and poorly written.
Would not easily recommend this series.

Awesome mysteries

I really enjoyed this series with Missy DeMeanor. This author has developed her character so well, I could picture everything. Each story had great focus on plot, characters and with many twists and turns to keep me reading to the end. I am hoping for further books in this series!!! Thanks for a great read, I will absolutely read this author Brianna Bates again and again.

Great read

A nice set of stories, you could read individually or as a group. I like the character, Missy is smart and loyal to a fault. She solves many murders to exonerate friends wrongfully accused. She deals with her own emotional issues regarding weight, loss of a parent, and her highschool sweet heart who showed up married to another in the first book. I would like to know how that all plays out. Would recommend.

Missy DeMeanor box set

I loved the series, reading the stories .com the first one to the last. I had already read a couple of them out of order but reading them in order made it flow better. Watching her grow more confident in herself as she started losing the wait and solving the murders. Her relationship with her best friend and also Tyler go through ups and downs. Hope to read more about her in the future.

Following your conscience

This set of six books is worth the time. The heroine is Melissa DeMeanor, known as Miss DeMeanor. She's heard this joke many and is frustrated. In all the stories someone dies and she feels obligated to solve the crime. Each story follows the same theme yet it's different enough to keep the reader interested. I enjoyed all books and following Missy as she solves each one. Easy to read and to stay the course until you've read all of the stories.

Each book has an individual review. Most often rated for me at a 2 Star ⭐️! So did the overall series! 2 Stars ⭐️. Bates lack in many areas as a writer. If she doesn’t have an editor she needs one ASAP! That all I have to say in this series because I’ve said enough on the individual books themselves.

If it hadn't been boiling hot I would not have continued with these books. But for a lightweight read where you don't have to engage your brain they were passable. As long as you don't mind working out who the murderer was quite early on in each book, can cope with various editing mistakes and can put up with all the repetition about the main characters weight.

A kindle freebie and it shows.

you know Missy is like the rest of us, never happy with the way we look...always wanting to change....it takes her quite awhile to figure out she is in control of some things in her life and some she just has to let go of...just like most of us.

the mystery part was fun, easy reading and i enjoyed the time to just sit and read.

Great Stories, Awesome Main Character and Lots of Surprises!

The main character is simply wonderful! I rarely read stories with a voluptuous female who has weight concerns, yet is apparently lovely enough for some people to appreciate! None of the stories are cookie cutter which means each solve is different. Can't wait to read more of Ms. Bates books!

Loved the series

If I had the time I could have read the entire series in one binge. But reading it a chapter at a time kept me wanting more. So every free minute I would pull it up on my kindle and read a chapter then get back to what had to be done for that day. Waiting on a new book to come out.

missy didn’t miss out!

Really great fun reading the adventures of Missy De Meanor. I guess you can say I binged on them. Each one was very fun to read and Missy sure is a person that knows how to solve crimes. Her logic was great and always right on target. Heart of gold, would have been a great “real” person to know!

Enjoyable Mysteries

I enjoyed the stories. I did have some trouble with the main character. Sometimes she just wasn’t nice. I think she could have been written nicer. And there was a lot of talk about being a big girl that got a little aggravating.

I enjoyed the series. The heroine was smart and unlike a lot of heroines of these cozy mysteries had common sense, was respectful to those she questioned and even though she struggled with weight, hers were believable.

Fun but poorly plotted

Enjoyed the books: but had to overlook the weakness of the plot to do so. Has police arresting people on weak circumstantial evidence. Then saves the day with an implausible confession. Well written and I liked the characters. Lot of typos.
