Ruby is done with jerks, dead-end jobs, and eviction notices. Everyone else she knows is finding ways out of this crappy neighborhood, so why can’t she? Since opportunities refuse to fall from the sky, Ruby makes her own. To hell with the little voice in her heart whispering about love. She never met a man she wanted to keep…then she met a gargoyle. Men were boring after all.
Nick was a con, a thief, and a rogue. He couldn’t keep a dime in his pocket even if it was glued. Then he met a ruby. Not one from the earth but one of flesh and blood. And ass. Let’s not forget the ass. Stealing her heart was now all he wanted.
He has a plan that could make both their dreams come true. It only involves an itsy-bitsy risk. All they must do is rob a witch.
Oh, and avoid the dragons.
Warning: Beware of despicable gargoyles with hearts of gold. They will sweep you off your feet when you're not looking.
Annie Nicholas hibernates in the rural, green mountains of Vermont where she dreams of different worlds, heroes, and heroines. When spring arrives the stories pour from her, in hopes to share them with the masses one day.
Mother, daughter, wife are some of the hats she happily wears while trudging after her cubs through the hills and dales. The four seasons an inspiration and muse.
Not Her Gargoyle can be read as a stand alone. I read book one, Not His Dragon, and then skipped to four, Not Her Gargoyle. I enjoyed Not Her Gargoyle, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to pick it up or purchase. I only picked this up; because it was on sale at the time for 99cents. I’m always looking out for a book deal.
Not Her Gargoyle gives us some comedy, romance, and a bit of intrigue imbued with certain disasters. I’ve noticed that the heroines in the Not This series are all down on their luck in someway and the heroes are all well off and can swoop in and save the day, but here we get both a hero and heroine that are not so well off and both in need of help.
I liked that we don’t have the life bounding/mated pair plot-line. The thing that kept me going in this story was the banter; between Nick and Ruby. It was also nice to see them both try to change their lives from shady too the straight and narrow path. The relationship between Nick and his bothers was something that I enjoyed. Nick is also super cute and clueless.
The world the author has created is filled with a verity of supernatural characters. It’s got charms, cures, and dark magic grimoire. The secondary characters where fun. I liked the vampire, can’t remember his name, we meet that the Gargoyles befriend.
I will say I didn’t care for the non-explanation for Nick’s imprisonment which leads to his breakout in the beginning of the story and also at the end then him and Ruby leaving town. With this plot-line Elon, who we meet in Not His Dragon, is also portrayed as a dick throughout the story and I’m not sure why the author went this way.
Totally absorbing and laugh out loud funny, this is a tale of magic, mayhem, mishaps, idiocy of the first order, love and sacrifice.
I've read quite a few of her books and loved them, but 'Not Her Gargoyle', the fourth book in Annie Nicholas' Not This series wasn't really what I was expecting at all. Totally absorbing and laugh out loud funny, this is a tale of magic, mayhem, mishaps, idiocy of the first order, love and sacrifice. The cast of characters includes dragon, tiger and wolf shifters, witches, vampires, humans and a set of hapless gargoyle brothers, a charm, a curse and a dark magic grimoire.
This is an emotion packed tale with tons of humour, chemistry, love, loyalty, and some action which begins and ends in pretty much the same place, with Nick chained to a ledge on the roof of the dragon's castle, watching Angie, the fluffy white dragon and contemplating life, the universe and escaping, but there's an awful lot of story in between. It centres around gargoyle Nick and Ruby, the human woman he loves as they try to make a normal life in the middle of a changing city, trying their best to avoid the ever searching dragons Eoin and Angie, but Eoin never gives up and Angie is nesting, and extremely unpredictable. Nick, his three brothers and Ruby have all had tough lives, living hand to mouth and doing what they've had to do to survive. They're still doing that, but at least they're not alone anymore. Maybe together they can improve their impoverished lives and be happy, but it seems fate isn't on their side until the very end, and even then, there's a twist.... no, I'm not giving spoilers, but there is a happily ever after... I hope. This story, although it's a stand alone, ends rather abruptly and is crying out for an epilogue.
I loved this book and felt for Ruby, Nick and his brothers, and I laughed at their antics. I know I shouldn't have, but I couldn't help it. I've actually got three of the four previous stories, yes, I know I said it was book four, and it is, but there's also a Christmas short 'Not His Christmas', non of which, for assorted reasons, I've actually read yet so I've got some catching up to do and I really wish I'd read them before starting this one. Although it can stand happily on it's own, there are quite a few references to events past and I think I'd have got a lot more out of the story if I'd read the others first.

Absolute perfection! Comedy, Romance and that bit of Intrigue imbued with certain Disaster makes this one of the funniest books I have read this year! Love this Authors style of writing and her characters are to die for. Fast paced fun leads you on a hilarious chase through this wonderful read!
I just had the best time of my life, who would have thought that being a little on the gray side of life could be so much fun!
Ruby and Nick have amazing chemistry that draws readers into their hijinks with ease because they both have a unique way of looking at things and dealing with everything that life throws at them. Their romance isn't sweet, it's fun and kind of stuck on Ruby when she wasn't aware which was quite funny because Nick was one determined gargoyle and he decided that Ruby was his.
The plot is fast paced and full of excitement as Nick finds himself running from a dragon and that's just the beginning as Nick and Ruby just keep the thrills and the chuckles coming throughout and with some surprising twist to keep everyone guessing.
This is the first book in the Not This series that I have read and I have to say that Annie Nicholas did a great job of developing her characters and bring her charming and delightfully fun world to vivid life and I since was completely charmed by Not Her Gargoyle, I will be catching up on the series while await the next book.
First I want to thank the author for letting me reading her new book in exchange of an honest review. I LOVED this book! It’s funny, adorable and steamy at the same time. Also if you love PNR and Gargoyles then this is a must read and need to enter your TBR list. I loved every book of this series, and many character from the previous books are also in this story. Nick e Ruby form a perfect couple, they are lonely souls searching for their match, struggling and doing what they need to survive. Family is one of the most important things for them, both have siblings and they’ll do everything for them. Ruby is a girl who struggled her entire life, always getting hurt by others, in the starts she doesn’t know how to take the interest from Nick, he’s the type of guy that she always went out with but what he’s feeling is true, he really likes her and is interested to have something more. Nick is a sweet and sexy gargoyle, even if he created mischief and stole, he wants to adjust his life, he wants to do good and right thinks. But love won’t be the only feature of this story! Adventure, funny and sexy moments will make you love the story and this two characters! I can’t wait to read the next installment of this series! Thanks again Annie Nicholas for letting me read this story and for creating those beautiful and funny characters!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS SERIES!!! Title: Not Her Gargoyle Series: Not This Author: Annie Nicholas Designation: Book 5, Full-Length, *Can Be Read As Standalone, Paranormal Romance, NO Cliffhanger Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars***** *Although the author gives ample backstory, this reviewer recommends reading the books of the series sequentially for maximum enjoyment and to avoid possible spoilers.
I love, love, love Not Her Gargoyle, the fifth outrageously cute release in the Not This Series by Annie Nicholas! I became completely smitten after reading Not His Dragon, the first delightful story in the series and became hopelessly hooked. I now await each new release with bated breath and once again, Annie Nicholas didn't disappoint! I snickered, snorted, giggled, and sniffled through the entire story but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained. Not Her Gargoyle is a sexy, fast-paced, easy-to-follow, full-length, standalone paranormal tale filled to the brim with side-splitting humor, endearing characters, heartbreaking angst, dreamy romance and of course, a heartwarming happy ending. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with his and her perspectives. The dialogue is snappy, hilarious, well-executed, and flows effortlessly. No one appreciates a well-written story better than me, but no matter how great the technical components and execution, without a cast of great characters, it's all for naught. And that's what I love about the work of Annie Nicholas, she delivers the whole package, time after time. Each time I open a Nicholas book, I'm always assured a satisfying read, and Not Her Gargoyle was no exception. If you've been following the series, remember Trixie's protective older sister, Ruby, and the bungling gargoyle thief, Nick, from Book 3 (Not Her Vampire)? Well, they're back! Plus Nick's three brothers are in town so you can only imagine what kind of trouble they're up to. I felt so sorry for Nick and Ruby. Nick had been imprisoned and chained to the castle by Eoin for attempting to steal from him and causing Trixie's accident. Unlike shifters, Nick had only his gargoyle form. He could never pass as a human, but he really wanted to, so he could get a job and help beautiful Ruby. And poor Ruby...she was happy for her newly mated younger sister Trixie, really she was, but she missed her terribly. She was so lonely. All she ever wanted was to find a man who would love her and never abandon her. But once Nick and Ruby found each other, it was kismet - and shenanigan central! lol... And their sexual chemistry was smokin' hot! These two sweet, lonely free spirits were so perfect for each other. Although the banter, bickering, and interaction between Nick and Ruby are often laugh-out-loud funny, don't let all the humor fool you. Nick and Ruby had a difficult journey to find their happy ending.
No spoilers from me but I will say this... A handsome, sweet, lonely gargoyle who means well yet always finds himself in deep trouble-check! A beautiful lonely human woman who can't hold onto a job and longs for a happy ending of her own-check! ! A caper gone very wrong-Check! A vengeful witch who wants her pound of flesh-check! A curse that could cost Nick his wings and Ruby her happy ending-check! Vampires, dhampires, dragons, werewolves, gargoyles, and black magic-Check! Danger, heartache, and lots of angst-check! Humor, attraction, passion, steamy sex, and sweet romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more!
Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Not Her Gargoyle is the fourth book in the Not This Series, a romantic paranormal comedy full of self acceptance and love. Ruby works a dead end job, is about to be evicted, and has never had a good relationship, which is rubbed in her face as her sister found love. When Nick crash lands into her life, they decide to be roommates, cohorts in crime, coworkers, and eventually lovers. But when some of their crimes catch up to them in the form of a vengeful witch, can Ruby and Nick band together to save his wings and freedom?
Talk about a laugh out loud book, with amazing characters that make you cheer for and connect to. Ruby was almost lost without her sister around, but she’s always been so resourceful, strong, and independent. Nick was as free as could be, but loved spending time with Ruby and only wanted to be better for her. I loved what the charm and its magic could do, and I loved all of the obstacles that Ruby and Nick had to jump through to find their happy ending. I think one of my favorite parts about this book was all of the sibling love! Ruby had Trixie and Nick had his brothers, and both would do anything for those they love. There’s so much loyalty and sacrifice all in the name of love, for the siblings and for Ruby and Nick. There’s quite a few things that happen in this book and I’m so excited to see the repercussions in the future books, just as I was so excited to see some familiar characters and events from previous books in the series. While this book could definitely stand alone, this series is very interconnected, and you’d get the best enjoyment out of reading them in order - plus they’re hilarious! I loved this book and can’t wait to for the next to come out!
The heroines in this series are all very down on their luck financially, and the other heroes are all pretty well off and sort of swoop in and save them from their destitution. I like that in Not Her Gargoyle we finally have a hero that is just as bad off - worse off, really - than the heroine, and she steps in and gives him a hand up and a place to stay. The shift away from the lifebonding/mated pair plotlines of the other books was also a nice change of pace.
Like the other women in this series, Ruby is totally kick ass, and I appreciate her vulnerabilities. There is a scene between her and her downstairs neighbor that really spoke to me, where Ruby is basically being pushed into deciding if she is going to prostitute herself to her landlord to make up for her past due rent or be evicted, and her neighbor tells her:
“You do whatever you need to do to survive. Nobody cares about women like us and we need to stick together.”
HELL YES, neighbor lady whose name I can't remember for the life of me right now but I really like you! Way to be. I also love the banding together between Nick and his brothers, who are adorable. Nick was super cute, and kind of clueless. Nick was a fun character, and the banter between him and Ruby was fun, as was reading about them both trying to change their lives around and "go straight" after leading rather shady lives.
This is the 4th book in the Not This series, and while it can be read as a stand alone it's really better if you read the series in order, otherwise you might find yourself a little lost. However this one probably reads better as a stand alone more than books 2 or 3, so I guess if you MUST skip ahead, go for it.
Ruby has been a bit depressed since her sister, Trixie, found love with her vampire, Viktor, and her friend Betty met her soulmate in Ken, the New Port werewolf Beta. She wants to find a way out of dead-end jobs and stay away from men who are jerks. She decides to make her own luck and goes to a club where shifters are rumored to go. She runs into the pack Alpha and decides her best bet is to walk home. AS she's being followed she pulls out her pepper spray and winds up spraying Nick, the gargoyle she had met when Trixie met Viktor, because Nick had pulled the guy away from her. Ruby takes Nick home and offers him Trixie's room. Nick who has always been a con decides to go straight for Trixie but he can't find a job as a gargoyle. While he finds a charm at a white witch's store that will make him human, he can't afford the price so he and Ruby steal it. All is going well until they run into Nikita, the witch, on the street. She sends them on a quest to steal a black magic grimoire from the Riverfront werewolf pack.
The book is a fun read and the series is great but there were quite a few grammatical errors in this book which takes away from the story. I also felt the ending was a bit abrupt. Still I did enjoy how everything ties together.
What a great book. I just love a book that has a bit of everything. Being the 4th book in a series it brings you characters that you already know. Nick is always in trouble, but he has such a wonderful outlook of life. Then he meets Ruby. Life hasn't always been kind to Ruby, but she has always done what was needed to keep her and Trixie safe and fed. Now she has a new room mate who's a Gargoyle, and sexy as hell. This book is very well written and keeps you wanting to turn the next page. Everyone from the previous books is there, so you get to hear about them and how they are continuing to live after their book was over.
Absolutely awesome book, definitely loved this book an will be reading its sister books that are in my TBR list, most definitely loved everything from our hero and heroine, their story and their history.
I won't give spoilers but will say if I had to describe this book I'd say, feisty, sexy sassyness with a hint of brooding, giggles, naughtiness and adventure.
Goes without saying if you love supernatural beings and romance youl love this book.
This is the first book I've had the opportunity to read from this series and I have to say I'm intrigued. I now want to read the previous three, and I will soon. I enjoyed Nick and Ruby's story. It was fun, energetic, quirky and exciting. I liked the chemistry between them I also now need to know about the other characters in the series. Ms Nicholas did a great job writing the story, I've read her Vanguard Series now I'm interested in another.
I love Annie Nicholas’ books and I wanted to give this one 5 stars. The writing was great, the characters engaging, and the plot compelling. But there were a few problems.
First of all, there were verb tense issues. It was distracting to me when the tense should have changed from simple past to past perfect, but it did not. I rely on verb tenses to inform my understanding of events in time. Failure to include these types of clues caused me to pause in my reading to reassess what had just happened versus what had happened previously. It took me out of the story.
The bigger issue for me was plot related. **SPOILER ALERT** Eion is portrayed as a massive dick, and not the good kind. Ruby's sister Trixie is close friends with Angie, Eion’s mate. It seems obvious to me that, even if Eion was unwilling to listen to reason, someone could have spoken to Angie. He would have listened to her. Instead, no one bothered to explain the extenuating circumstances leading to Nick's continued imprisonment, leading them to plan a breakout and leave town. That was so unnecessary and it just really bugged me. It was not the ending that made the most sense.
I don't like to impose my vision of what an ending to a story should be as I am not the author. However, there are stories in which the ending goes against everything we have been led to believe about characters. For this reason, I had to give this book 3 stars.
This series is great and this book was no exception. In it, the gargoyle Nick, who accidentally pissed off the dragon Eion in the Not His Dragon series by scaring Trixie, who fell down the dungeon stairs and had to be turned into a vampire, is chained to the dragons castle as part of his punishment for an undetermined amount of time. His brothers come to rescue him and he decides to take shelter with Trixie’s human sister, Ruby.
Ruby, who has always had to support her little sister Trixie by any means, is finding it difficult to make the same choices as she had to when someone was depending on her. She is trying to live her life on the straight and narrow, and Nick has decided to try giving living an honest life a try. The only problem with Ruby’s plan is she cannot afford the rent without her sisters contribution and with Nicks plan is that as a gargoyle, he does not have a human form and people are scared of his gargoyle form, which makes finding a regular 9 to 5 a bit difficult.
Ruby, who has been extremely attracted to Nick from the start, offers to let him become her roommate. Nick, who has had the hots for Ruby from the start graciously accepts, all the time wanting to find a way to help Ruby.
After job hunting turns out to be a bust, Nick seeks the help of a witch, who has the perfect charm that will allow him to be in human form while wearing it, but she wants ten grand for the charm, which he can’t get without a job and he can’t get a job without the charm.
Ruby and Nick hatch a plan to switch out the charm without the witch knowing, and it all goes according to plan... until it doesn’t.
Will the dragons catch up with Nick and force him back in chains before the witch exacts her revenge? Is it possible to find a happily ever after between a human and a gargoyle when everyone’s after them? If you want to know, you should get the book. There’s plenty more to the story, but I don’t want to spoil it all here on my review, so go hurry up and grab a copy! You won’t be disappointed!!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
This is book number 4 and I haven’t read the others in the series, but I’m a HUGE lover of gargoyles so I decided to take a chance. Now technically this is a stand alone but I’m guessing there would be a lot more enjoyment if you read these in order so you knew the history of the characters and (hopefully) have a better insight as to why they do the things they do. I was never really able to connect with Ruby. It starts out where we find out she slept with multiple wolves at a “wedding” recently and all I can think is “ew” instead of “you poor broken girl”. We also get recollections of her trading sex for rent and such in order to keep a roof over her sister’s head but we’re so removed from her and her past that I wasn’t left feeling anything but “meh”. I’m sure that’s not the reaction the author was going for. At least I could understand her choices but her blatant desperation to find love along with her jealousy with those few around her that had found their mate was just another Ruby hurdle I couldn’t seem to overcome. Nick on the other hand I liked. He was funny and charming. I did find it unusual that in this world the gargoyles have only one form and it took a witch for him to shift. I wonder if that means his brothers won’t be getting their own books.... I think I have spent too many years reading erotica because the euphemisms used during the sexy times made my eyes roll more than once. I’m guessing those who are tired of the dirty words will find this more tolerable....I just ended up skimming the sex. The ending was a bit unfinished for me. I’m kinda mad about how Armand was left as was Norm, although Im guessing Norm might make an appearance in the next book....I don’t want to give any real spoilers but I don’t think Ruby would have handled the end the way she did either. If you like gargoyles this is an easy and (mostly) enjoyable read.
Annie Nicholas books are like candy, you know it's going to be good. I like ALL her books but especially her 'Not This" series. In this book we find Nick the troublemaker gargoyle chained to Eoin's castle. He was chained because he startled a human, Trixie, who fell to her death. She was rescued by Viktor, an ancient vampire. Trixie is now a newly made vampire living with Viktor. Nick and his brothers have lived all over cheating, stealing and causing all sorts of shennigans. Nick and his brothers find a way to release Nick from his chains. He meets Trixie's sexy older sister Ruby. Nick wants to find a job and start over, living legitimately. He would love to impress Ruby and help her out of her desperate financial situation. Nick meets Nikita a local powerful witch. She has a charm that will give Nick the aspect of a human. This would allow him to get a job, as not many would hire a gargoyle. The catch is the charm is very expensive. Ruby and Nick decide to steal from Nikita. It is never a good idea to steal from a witch. Nick finds a job at a coffee shop working for a tiger shifter, Pete. Pete is interesting. I want to know a lot more about him. The witch finds Ruby and Nick and confronts them about the charm. They must do a service for the witch or Nick will be trapped forever in his human form, never to fly again. This book has a lot going on. We see many characters from previous books and we find new interesting ones along the way. We run into the Alpha wolf from Riverbend. There is a surprise twist in the end. Loved this book. I want to visit quirky New Port and meet all these great characters. Ryota is one book I am so looking forward to.
Going straight: a convoluted paranormal path to respectability
Annie Nicholas' Not This... series is probably the most unique and amusing paranormal romance series ever, and her latest book, Not Her Gargoyle, is one of the best and most original paranormal rom-coms ever. Ruby, the girl from the wrong side of town, has always done what she had to do for her sister's and her own survival. Fortunately she's got the looks and the street smarts to make it. Likewise, gargoyle Nick and his brothers have roamed homeless and clanless their whole lives, relying on pickpocketing and other less marketable skills to keep stone and soul together. In a world where shifters and vampires are accepted by humans, gargoyles are still ostracized -they can't shift! When Nick and Ruby get together, they want a better life, with regular income, and no more crime - but Nick's stone gargoyle look scares customers and employers. They agree to one last heist - steal a witch's $10,000 charm that will let Nick be human. It works fine till they're caught. The witch demands repayment in three days or else. Thus begins the madcap caper to see Nick and complete the witch's mission. With dragons, gargoyles, werewolves, witches, vampires, and incredibly funny slapstick comedy, the author takes her human/gargoyle team through all manner of plots, adventures, escapes - plus little sexy times now and again - and I was in stitches the whole time. There's no such thing as too much fun - but this pair, and the book, sure come close! I thank the author for the ARC, and all the giggles and guffaws, and this is my personal, voluntary, and uncompensated opinion: you will LOVE this book!
Two characters completely "broken" (no money at all) and they seem to complete each other when it comes to doing things in a way that can get along. Ruby was late to pay her rent and working long hours to make up for the lack of financial help from her sister. Trixie had been living with her new boyfriend ever since she'd been turned into a vampire - by accident. This disaster in Trixie life - which turned out to be positive because she knew the love of her life - was Nick's fault, a gargoyle, who was trapped in the Dragons Tower, Eoin and Angie.
Nick is able to escape from the tower and, feeling guilty, searches for Trixie, and ends up finding out that Ruby was in a similar situation to him. Wanting to help her out of that difficult financial problem, Nick decides to look for a job, and it is from there that much confusion happens. The city - the humans - lived well with the shifters in general, but they needed to maintain a human appearance, something a gargoyle could not do. It is when Nick comes in contact with a witch and this has the solution to his problem. A magic necklace that would turn him into a human. But to get this necklace, Nick would have to create a miraculous plan. And from this plan, other confusions happen.
The fantasy plot has several funny passages and brings a fun side of the fantastic beings, unlike the current books. However, I could not feel any connection with the couple, making the reading sometimes a bit slow. 3 stars
The Not Her series is one of my favourites. I have enjoyed each of them and like the fact that they can be read as stand alone although they are better if read in order as it gives you background. In this book Nick is a soft hearted gargoyle who has been chained to the roof of his mansion by the dragon Eoin. During his imprisonment he accidentally caused the death of Tricia, a human, who was subsequently brought back from death by the vampire, Victor. (See Not Her Vampire). Trixie’s sister, Ruby, was there and met Nick as a result. Trixie went to live with Victor leaving Ruby alone in their flat. Since Ruby only had a low paying waitress job she was soon behind with the rent. Meanwhile Nick’s three brothers, Norm, Nate and Neil, have been looking for him. These three are the three stooges of gargoyledom! They bumble around but are all good hearted and they manage to free Nick. While escaping Nick sees Ruby in trouble and goes to help her. These two are a strange but cute pairing. Gargoyles live by trickery and thieving but Nick decides that the only way to help Ruby is to get a job. From then on the fun is on! The way Nick cares for Ruby and makes her believe in herself and love is beautiful. I received an ARC of this book and I’m happy to give it a five star rating. I must also say that it is very well written and proofed. What a pleasure to read.
This is Nick and Ruby's story . We find Nick chained to wall right off the start and from there this book just gets better !! Ruby is trying her best to figure out how she is going to pay her rent and not become homeless when Nick shows up . The trouble that Nick can find is kind of funny and the hardships he has to face just trying to become straight will have you rooting for him all the way !! I do have to say that it seems that poor Neil never has it easy either but he does an awesome job at picking that lock !! While out trying to find a job Nick sees an ad for a witch and decides why not check it out . And when she pats him ??!! LOL . Now he knows that he will have to go back to his old ways just to be able to get a job and stay with Ruby . Now I know that Ruby has done some things that some people might not be cool with but for me it just made her more real and life like . Now that being said dang I like her moxie !! And the way that Nick just seems so sweet and at the same time clumsy priceless !! And I did so love the way these brothers treat each other and then when Ruby goes with the brothers to save Nick what happens just blew me away !! Thanks for such a great story !!
The narrator does a good job and fits the story well. Nice performance. Listened on Audible.
Love that these stories are usually lots of fun and unique. Quirky characters and interesting scenarios. I wasn’t a fan of Ruby in the other books and in the beginning of this one; 4 guys in one night, is just gross. Plus, her using her body to pay for things is just sad; how about talking with your sister before going that route. There was kind of a whole sadness to this story. Ruby is trying to change, but things just keep not going her way. For Nick too, so it’s great that they found each and they both accept each other fully; flaws and all. There were things that they could’ve done to improve their lives, but they were just stuck in their way of thinking. It’s easier to not take chances and maintain the status quo. They are on the right path to change, but I’m not sure if they’ll get there. I loved the gargoyle aspect and the magical elements. It’s also great to see some past characters. Nicholas created an interesting paranormal world; paranormals just trying to have a normal-ish life, so the whole town adds a fun element to the books in this series. This is a 3.5 for me, but I rounded up because I’ve really enjoyed this series. Looking forward to reading the next books.
Ok I really liked this book. And the only thing keeping it from 5 stars was that it wasn’t exactly what I expected. I still loved it but would have liked it a smidge more if there had been just a little more of the two of them together. It seemed to feel like the book was more about their heists and shenanigans then their relationship. I was also a little surprised to find it was basically insta-love as well since there was no mating bond or anything like that, since Ruby is human and Nick is a gargoyle. I also super did not know what to expect from a gargoyle in any sense. I was please to discover they are pretty cool creatures and Nick sure is a cutie. And I also really liked that Ruby and Nick were so well suited for one another. I feel like these two are probably the best matched of the series yet, and that’s probably because there isn’t a mating type bond or being the same species to connect them. I really liked Ruby and that she was so willing to just dive in with Nick. And I loved that Nick made her feel alive for the first time ever, really. They are super cute together and I hope we get to see more of them eventually.
Wow what an amazing book! This is such a wonderfully well-written and thought out story. I love shifter stories. This is the 4th in the set. This is Nick and Ruby's story. We met nick in book 3 and the Christmas story. He accidentally killed Trixie, well she was not gone long as she is with Viktor so if you read that book you know. But as punishment Eon chained him to the castle and there he stayed till his brothers rescued him. Now gargoyles do not have a human form and ruby is human and he wants to go straight so he can take care of her so they come up with a plan and it seeems to work till the witch comes after them. Now he is cursed and stuck in human form till they can find a way to fix it. But wait till you read that ending, it was awesome. But you will have to read to see what happens to Ruby in the rescue attempt. Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it when you do; they value your opinions too.
Holy gargoyle Batman that was a great book! I laughed a lot and had a few heart felt moments, I love gargoyles loved them since watching the cartoon show as a kid. Religiously every Saturday morning, this book was adorable and fun at best.
Character breakdown;
Ruby: it isn't easy working your butt off just to survive, and it can get discouraging as well. But I loved her devotion and how easily she accepted Nick for who he was rather than try and change him. Proud or not Ruby was an admiral character in the book.
Nick: his sense of humor and loyalty to his brothers made me fall in love with him. I laughed so many times at his jokes and enjoyed his persona. And that he was a gargoyle was a plus!
This series is all enjoyable it's light and funny but with enough romance to satisfy the romantics out there. Enjoy a good laugh? Some fussy feelings? Give it a try!
I could see this story coming from the first time that Nick and Ruby met in the prior volume of the series! I'm so happy that they got their own book!
I was pretty ticked off at how Ruby's friends and family all pretty much just abandon her once their meet their mates. Especially her sister! They were struggling to make ends meet when the two of them were sharing an apartment; why in the world would Trixie think that Ruby was doing okay on her own?
I was also quite unhappy with how badly everyone treated Nick. Even after he fell in love with Ruby and tried to turn his life around being a good guy in every way he knew how. That they had to flee the city in the end was especially not cool.
The intrigue of this tale is quite wrapped up in some of the other stories and players in the series, and it appears that there will probably be more entanglement there. Things are certainly getting interesting in this series!
I have loved all of the books in this series, and this was another great addition.
The storyline was fast paced enough to keep me reading, but not so fast that it left my head spinning, asking what just happened.
And, I don't believe this counts as a spoiler, (if you want to know absolutely nothing about the story, stop reading now), but I liked how this one differed from the others by having a male main character that was not stupid rich, who couldn't just swoop in and financially save the day. Don't get me wrong, I love those types, too, it was just a nice change for once.
I only took off one star because this was not my absolute favorite of the series. I didn't feel the same connection with the characters as the previous books, but that doesn't mean I didn't love it. I would still definitely recommend this book, along with the whole series.
Not Her Gargoyle is the fourth book in the Not This series by Annie Nicholas. Ruby Russell has not been treated fairly. She made a lot of sacrifices to keep food on the table for her and her little sister Trixie. As a high school dropout, due to being abandoned by their folks, Ruby has used her looks to get them what they need. But now Trixie is a vampire, and without her help with rent, things are going from bad to worse. Nick has made plenty of mistakes. As a gargoyle, he's done his best to survive with his brothers, but right now his main concern is to escape from Eion's castle. Ruby and Nick's paths cross once more, but will their luck change? Overall, this was a good addition to the series. I thought the part with Angie at the end was really cute. However, I wasn't too thrilled with the way the book ended.
This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. Not Her Gargoyle by Annie Nicholas is Book 4 in the Not This series. This is Ruby and Nick's story and what a fun romp it is. Prepare to laugh out loud at the antics of gargoyles, shifters, vampires, dragons and Ruby in this sweet, funny and thought provoking story. I loved this read and highly recommend it to anyone interested in escaping to a world where supes are out of the closet and chaos follows gargoyles around like a love struck puppy! This is my first Not This series read and although there are some small spoilers, the storyline was easy to follow and not over my head. I do plan to read books 1-3 ASAP, cause Annie Nicholas definitely knows how to keep you entertained!
