Riah always thought her father was normal. The kind of single dad who worked hard, and went hiking, and did his best to bring her up on his own. Sure, he had some serious opinions on knives, and cared a little too much about good camping gear, but who didn’t?So when an elf, a real, live, pointy-ears-and-bow elf appeared in their living room with a call to arms, Riah has some questions that suddenly seem a whole lot more urgent. As it turns out, her father has been keeping some secrets. Mostly about how he used to be the hero of a different world, complete with a magical sword, and a destiny he can’t escape.
When disaster strikes, Riah discovers that maybe her father isn’t the only hero in their family. After all, what good is magic if you can’t use it to pick a fight with an evil sorcerer?
A pg12 story would make more sense. The Hero has the only weapon that can kill the bad guy but even though in the final battle mr. bad guy kills his lover he inprisons him in an indestructible crystal instead of killing him, but the crystal turns out to have only 1 vulnerability, being smashed. WHAT THE F? Than it turns out that mr hero also let the bad guy's general live so he could free his boss and rebuild his armies. What monument to brainlesness is this supposed to be? The story is full of this kind of things and frankly just frustrating to read.
I was trying to read this over the course of a few days, but I had insomnia one night and decided I'd read a few chapters just until I could fall asleep. Next thing I knew, I had come to the end. This was a fantastic read with well-written characters and a plot line that never gets old or boring. Yes, there are some common tropes in this, but that makes it all the more wonderful. If you are looking for an awesome fantasy story that has a well-written heroine, look no further!
Riah is surprised to find that her lawyer father is a chosen hero on a magical world. Old friends have come for him to return and take up his sword again. Riah is determined to go with him. Training, magic, danger, and romance ensue. I like the action, humor, adventure, and romance. I look forward to the next book.
I enjoyed it. I had not heard of the author before and took a chance. Glad I did. Good story line. Characters are interesting and developed nicely. The alternative world is presented nicely. You find out enough to feel comfortable in it. There are a couple of twists in the plot that work well. Recommended.
I absolutely loved it! I’ve followed Lee for years, reading anything I could get my hands on, and I have zero regrets. Zan is 100% my favorite character, and I adore how he interacts with everyone!
I read this book every chance I could get! At my desk on my lunch break, sitting in the bath and late into the night! I was not disappointed and I'm now about to start on book number 2.
A great story hindered by editing. So many sentences needed corrected. In spite of that, I enjoyed the story, likable characters, nice conclusion with no cliffhanger. Would have been 4 stars. Too bad it wasn't fixed as there are more books in this world.
Romping good read. I really enjoyed the concept and the story, but there are a LOT of grammar and spelling errors that are quite distracting to me. It really needs to go through proof-reading again.
