It’s autumn in Whiskey Springs, Vermont, and more than the leaves have changed color. Life has never been better for Fallon Foster. Her relationship with the town’s newest citizen, Riley Main is progressing as Fallon had hoped. Fallon finally believes she may get the family she’s dreamed of. Her business is thriving, and her friendship with her former lover, Andi Maguire is back on track.
Meanwhile, Andi has been spending time with a local nurse, Billie Steele. The pair have become nearly inseparable, sharing dinners, cocktails, laughs, and long walks. After Andi’s short trip to visit her eldest son at college; she realizes that her feelings for the affable nurse have changed. Each will have to overcome fear and insecurity cultivated by past relationships if they hope to build something together.
The colorful cast of characters that gather at Murphy‘s Law will have plenty of news to share and stories to tell. Babies on the way, proposals to plan, and confessions to make bring both laughter and tears for the familiar faces of Whiskey Springs.
Just when life seems to find its footing, the unthinkable will turn the town upside down. Even in small town New England, can you ever truly know anyone?
Night Cap is the third installment in the OPEN TAB series by best-selling author, JA Armstrong.
I love this series and this book has put it above the first course series. Its longer than the others in the series and a lot happens. All of it you will love but man oh man the ending...THE ENDING!!! It trade mark in my opinion for Armstrong and I hoped it would happen but I didnt expect that to happen...After Hours please be released soon...like yesterday.
Again hats off to the author. Each sequel is as good or better than the previous one. All the characters of Whiskey Springs will forever hold a special place in my heart. Sit back, grab this book and enjoy it but make sure you don't miss the first two installments of this superb series.
The third book of the Open Tab series is a nuts and bolts lesbian romance.
The third person narrator of Night Cap is imbued with omnipotence. The thoughts and feelings of a vast array of characters are wide open to the reader. Whiskey Springs, VT may be small in size, but it's teeming with lesbian inhabitants. Women loving women, with or without the lesbian label, form its indispensable social hub.
Fallon Foster and Riley Main provide a stable family for three year old Owen. Fallon manages to keep the doors open to Murphy's Law without ever charging her customer base of friends and family. The business plays second fiddle to her commitments to Riley and Owen. The family bonds being forged between them are unbreakable and built to last a lifetime.
Andi Maguire recently suffered several losses. Her marriage to Jake ended in divorce. Her affair with Fallon ended though they continue on as best friends. Her relationship with her son David is shaken by his open hostility to her afflictional preferences. While mired in severe loneliness, Andi finds an all consuming love for Billie Steele that sends her reeling. Billie's as besotted with Andi, but she struggles with low self-esteem and coming out issues. The past will act either as a stepping stone or quicksand as Andi and Billie try to move forward.
There were times when Night Cap seemed more like case notes from a therapist than romantic lesfic. Fears and trauma were endemic to the storyline. Relationship issues from the past kept most of the main characters emotionally unsettled. The power of love and an ever present support system work to counteract troubled thoughts or feelings. Humorous dialogue was written in a way that lightened heavy topics. Almost none of the characters listened without interrupting. The halting pace of conversation seemed more hurried than necessary. The competing demands of work, relationships, children, extended family and friends left little time for long winded repartee.
Night Cap focuses on the development of new relationships and on solidifying family ties. The ending starkly contrasts with the overall tone of the book, but it clearly foreshadows book four in the series. It doesn't bode well for the growing populace of Whiskey Springs, but Armstrong aptly combines dramatic and romantic elements to enable a large cast of characters to evolve.
Best out of the 3 books in the series! For those who have read book 1 and book 2 may find that the author keep repeating what had happened in the 1st two books. Too many declaration of ‘I love you’ in this book - not that I’m opposed to it but sometimes, enough is enough. We know.... Just move along already! Loved the HEA between Fallon & Riley and I wondered what’s next for Andi & Billie. Ending was something which I DID NOT expect and was kinda blindsided. It will be interesting to read the storyline for book 4 and read what happened next... Can’t wait
If you love Armstrong's books as much as I do you will love this new series. These are to be enjoyed in the sun on a lazy afternoon with a cool drink to hand.
They are nice short stories that continue from book to book. Yes, you need to read them in order. They could be about you as the author makes her characters realistic. They become your friends too. You start care about them and their lives.
Wasn’t expecting that cliff hanger!! I’ve listened to the other books in the series, but I’ve grown attached to this big chosen family and couldn’t wait for it to come out on audio, so I bought the book. Although, I’ll probably still get the audio version as well because the narrater just does such a fantastic job. I just love all the characters! Well, maybe all but 2 1/2 of them. Anyone who has read the books could guess the two are Dean & Olivia. I don’t count Mary as a full character because she is very minor to the story, so she is the half. Anyway another heartwarming tale about the characters in a Whiskey Springs. Huge cliffhanger of an ending though and I can’t wait for the next book! Favorite quote in the book: “People came into your life for reasons that often weren’t meant to be explained.”
I'm addicted to The Open Tab Series! I loved the characters from the get go, and have loved watching the way the characters have grown individually as well as together as a family.
Night Cap, resumes with the drama that resolves around Whiskey Springs. Fallon and Riley are stronger than ever, and have ultimately decided on embarking on a new journey together. This series brings together a different meaning of love for a lot of the characters, whom are faced with new revelations and experiences, different outlooks on life and love.
Literally can't wait for the next installment!! 100% recommend reading Night Cap!
I’ve been reading the books in the Open Tab series slower & slower! I guess I figure the wait will be shorter in between installments that way! Anyway, I love all the characters so much. The banter & interaction between all of them is wonderful! I feel like I’m there in Whiskey Springs, as I read each story. Hey, maybe I can be 1004? This book ends in mystery & I am here, not so patiently waiting, to see where this takes the Murphy’s Law family. Thank you for writing such amazing stories! And thank you to all the characters in your head for continuing those conversations!
It is fall and heading into the holidays. The soap opera of Whiskey Springs continues in its ever addicting way. Riley and Fallon are both moved to go forward in their relationship and start planning a wedding. It is cuffing season and the side romance heats up between Andi and nurse Billie Steele (a life long friend of Fallon’s). Other friends also see progress in their relationships. Just a nice outing that ends in an unexpected Thanksgiving surprise. I’m learning Armstrong keeps her books more open so that she can return and revisit characters for future stories. I'm already sad there is only one more book left in the series.
I did not see that coming. This one is a must read. Now Armstrong you got this one write. This is the kind of bold writing I'm used to having from you. This is one hell of an installment.
I really loved this one. What a way to further the Whiskey Springs series. I loved seeing the relationship further developed between Fallon and Riley in this. They also decide tehy are getting married.
We also get to see a lot of Andi in this and we see her begin to develop feelings for one of her and Fallon's close friends, Billie, but she doesn't know what to do with these newfound feelings for her. She feels lonely, but also trapped. ON one hand, she wants Billie badly, but on the other hand she also doesn't want to risk their friendship for love, but she'll have to take a chance at a relationship with Billie just like Fallon did with Riley.
However, when all parties are accounted for and after the wedding celebration is over it ends on a sad note, although Olivia was heartless at times and ruined lives, Fallon and Riley get the news she was found dead in her car. Who did it? Why did they do it? Nobody knows why, but Fallon knows that she has Riley by her side. What will happen next?
2.5 - ended up skimming through this one and may have reached my limit with the characters/situations. Perhaps I should have taken a break between the books in the series and I would have been more engaged. The angst factor is rapidly increasing - this book is full (more full?) of introspection, processing, proselytizing and drama. If you're in the mood for a good angsty romance with a strong supporting cast that adds their own level of trials and tribulations - this series will do it for you. The author does this very well and the books are readable and enjoyable.
There's a cliffhanger ending, so there's at least another book coming out in this series - so if you're an obsessive reader, be warned - the author isn't done yet, so pace your reading or you'll be chomping on the bit waiting for the next book's release. .
This book made me laugh, cry, contemplate life, and wish that I lived in Whiskey Springs. JA Armstrong excels in character development in the Open Tab series and Night Cap further demonstrates that skill. I loved the characters that I grew to know more from the previous two books and I got to know some other characters much better like Billie. Finally, the author leaves us with a cliff hanger at the end and prepares us for the next release of After Hours.
I love all of the Armstrong series. This book didn't disappoint, in fact I was very pleased with it. Many of the stories a very repetitive, especially character's inner-thoughts and non-dialogue explanation of emotions. This book seemed to be a little better about that, as well as have more length and substance to the story. Of course I'm left unable to wait for the next book in the series, especially because we're left with a bit of a cliffhanger. Two thumbs up for better editing this time too. There were still mistakes, but other books have been worse and felt very rushed to publish. This is certainly a very productive author; I'm not sure how she juggles so many series at once! I just strongly believe in something worth doing is worth doing well, and a sloppy publication lacks respect for the product and the reader. Again, much better this time.
I've never read a JA book I haven't loved! Ms. Armstrong is a master of character development and conversations. Although this is book 3 of her Open Tab series, she continues to build the relationship of Fallon, Riley and Owen while developing her secondary characters, Andi and Billie. Andi is someone that many of us have come to love so reading her journey is an extra bonus. There are so many loving and poignant moments between family and friends in Night Cap, as well as the first two books.. But this ending was a complete surprise. Yikes, I can't wait for the next book, After Hours! Kudos to this wonderful author!
Again, this book helped me come to terms with and process things in my life I have yet to fully comprehend. It is refreshing that a book series has given me so much peace after helping me to process so many things. It was lovely and beautiful. I read a scene between Riley and Fallon at least 3 times because it was too incredible not to savor. I've read reviews where they mention things are repetitive--I have noticed that previously. But if you give yourself the chance to move beyond it, maybe this series can offer you something you didn't know you needed. It helped me heal. What can it give you?
Ah dang!!! did not see that ending coming... As much as Liv hurt everyone, she does not deserve to go like that. I can't wait now for the next book because, now I want justice for her.
Ending aside, I LOVE this book... to read through all the love they all have for each other is heartfelt throughout the characters. I cried at times (good cry), the author made me feel their joy, love and sorrows. Can I say how beautiful it was for Fallon to include Owen with her vows... priceless.
OMG!! That's ask that I can think of to say. This is the 3rd book in the Open Tab series by J.A. Armstrong, and I have read them all. The author created scenes of humor, passion, and intrigue. I just couldn't put it down. This is one book you will definitely enjoy. It has become my favorite of the series. Now, I'm going to get something cold to drink and read it all over again!
Night Cap was a wonderful read! After starting the Open Tab series, I could not wait to read this next installment. J.A. Armstrong has become a favorite. I enjoy reading anything she writes.
The storyline in Night Cap flowed very well and was extremely enjoyable. I definitely do not want to give too much away, but I will say it is definitely worth the read. Now I am anxious for, “After Hours.” Keep them coming, J.A... Keep them coming...
She does it every time what a great author. (,no spoilers). Every time I think I have everyone in there place,I think I know where this is going then what out comes the event you would not have thought of in a million years. I love when books do that and what a surprise shock even. Highly recommend this story please i have two sets of your books where I am waiting the the next instalment please to put it bluntly hurry up .
This series by J.A Armstrong is amazing. This story really pulls you in. I don't know how the author manages to pull you in. It's funny and emotional and it makes you want to go to Whiskey Springs and meet Fallon, Riley, Andi, Billie and everyone else. Do yourself a favor and read this series.
I am loving the Whiskey Springs books. I think Night Cap is my favorite. The characters are fun, quirky and genuine. What I like the best about this authors writing is the conversations I can see myself sitting in Murphy's Law chatting with the patrons. The ending is surprising. Join Fallon, Riley, Owen, Andi , Billie and Ida in Whiskey Springs. You will enjoy this book.
This is the third book in Armstrong’s Open Tab series, and one thing that I appreciate is that she does not abandon her main characters of Fallon and Riley to the background in the continuing story. She gives them even more depth, as their relationship grows. Fallon knows that Riley and Owen are her future, she just doesn’t know how to get there. Riley’s introspective nature leads her to the same conclusion, but whereas Fallon is stuck trying to plan the perfect moment, Riley takes the initiative to propel them forward. Though, don’t believe that book three is without the small town and family drama. I think you will find more here than previously, and a couple of twists you may not have expected. Andi may have the answers for Riley and Fallon, but she has difficulty coming up with the answers to her own personal and family dilemma. You will not be disappointed with this third book in the series…it just gets better.
What an ending.... This is a must read series. It flows so well. Each character is so easy to relate to in some way. Its a story that will keep you hooked from page one till the end. Of course her endings ...leave you begging for more!!!! Go buy the audiobooks they're so worth it.
I’ve really enjoyed this series of books. I’ve read 3 books in 3 days, that’s how much I like them! The characters are very engaging, you’ll love some, you’ll dislike some, some will wiggle their way into your heart. Just remember people are people and you don’t get to choose who you fall in love with.
Love this series it is so realistic that I have a hard time remembering it is fiction. The author once again thrills this reader with her in-depth description of what is taking place and the people it involves. Am looking forward to finding the next book in this series, so far I’m not having any luck.
