This is the first novella starring Jillybean and Ipes. These side adventures occurred randomly throughout the first 10 book series. If you have not read the 10 original novels, you will be confused!
When the apocalypse hits and nearly wipes out humanity, the survivors band together in little knots, fighting desperately to stay alive. All except one forgotten child. Six-year-old Jillybean has been alone for months with “monsters” prowling endlessly around her house, looking to eat her as they did Mrs. Polarski from up the street. A big bunch of them ate the old lady down to the bone and left nothing but chunks of scalp with long strands of bloody, brown hair attached, and also an elbow. They left her elbow behind and Jillybean could never understand why. That elbow haunted her, as did Mrs. Polarski’s screams. When the monsters first came there had been many screams. All night there would be horrible, scary screams, and they had been simply awful, but the silence was worse. The heavy silence went on and on until Jillybean couldn’t take it any longer…and that was when her stuffed zebra began to talk to her. From then on, things got better. She even left her house. This is the story of a mentally shattered little girl finding the courage to live when so many millions of adults had died pissing their pants and choking on their own blood as they screamed.
Peter Meredith is the multi-genre author of an author of 35 novels in a variety of genres: Horror, zombies, post-apocalypse and Fantasy. Some of his creative work includes The Trilogy of Void, The Hidden Lands series, The Sacrificial Daughter, A Perfect America, Sprite and The Apocalypse Undead World. Having tried his hand in real estate, as an emergency room nurse, and a CEO of a national lighting company, he has come to find that his true addiction is as an author.
I really enjoyed this short story. The protagonist is a child who's survived a zombie out be. It's an interesting and different perspective. This is the first time I've read something by this writer and I'm impressed enough to check out more of his work.
As usual Peter Meredith has another must read book. I love all stories about jillybean and his use of a childs way of speaking. Please more adventures of jilly but miss the zebra
As a long time fan of Meredith's Undead World books, as well as his newer Generation Z series, I have developed an intense literary love for Jillybean, everyone's favorite zombie killing child with a multiple personality disorder. These new "Expansion" tales are very welcome, as is the narrative style where we have been introduced to Jillybean's biographer, Ezekiel Cross! What a nice touch! I, for one, cannot wait to read more of these stories. For those interested in the novella/story that seems to have kicked this off, I urge you to read the author's collection TALES FROM THE BUTCHER'S BLOCK where you'll find "The Witch: Jillybean in the Undead World."
Armed with a brilliant but strange mind, Jillian (nobody calls her that. She's Jillybean to herself and her strange world) struggles to survive. Her only confidant a stuffed zebra named Ipes. This short (really short) tale of Jillybean's beginnings in the post-apocalyptic world, shows her strange mind's path through a dangerous world.
Just a beginning few pages introducing Jillybean and her stuffed companion to hungry readers desperate for a few more paragraphs of Jillybean. A short, but really great read.
Gosh I loved this series!! This review is for the series because I just didn't want to write one after each book - and risk giving away spoilers. This last one made me cry (yes some favorites die along the way) BUT we were told that in book1. Jellybean, Neil, Grey and Sadie are unstoppable, and if we ever have zombies I hope that I find some folks with this much charisma and resourcefulness!
A fine way to understand why Jillybean was herself... Do not listen to the other cheap whining reviewer who complained that he had to pay for this... I'm sure he doesn't work for free and I'm sure that if he paid something, that wouldn't be more than 99 cents! (It was free for me). It could be a "she", though, I just remember that I wanted to slap that whining mouth for being so cheap and rude!
First time reading Meredith's book and can see why everyone loves Jillybean. Just picturing this little girl through the words written will break your heart. I received a free copy of this story and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
