At long last Earth has a handful of starships. Surrounded by Rebel Kher, Imperials and the mysterious Nomads, Humanity dares to assert our right to independence. The interstellar community reacts harshly. In the eyes of our neighbors, we’re upstarts, dangerous beings that don’t know our place. For the Kher, freedom can only be won through battle. War fleets arrive to instruct us, and Captain Leo Blake is again sent out to voyage among hostile stars. We’re far from ready, but the time has come. It’s game-on. EARTH FLEET is the fourth book in the Rebel Fleet series.
As easy to read as the previous 3 books in the series, and some good moments, ...but... I'm finding it a little repetitive, and the plotlines are threadbare on a few occasions. If there were tp be a fifth, I might not be as keen to read it.
The plot and setting is what keeps bringing me back. But the characters have the depth and charm of high schoolers trying to stand out. The story writing reminds of what you would expect from a cartoon written to sell toys.
As a kindle unlimited subscriber I read a lot of books, mostly sci-fi and epic fantasy. There are several authors I follow that churn out books, which for me can be both good and bad. Inevitably, an author I really like will release a book that I have to fight through, that's so bad I read it not for enjoyment but to show loyalty to them. I don't know how much each author makes when a Kindle Unlimited book is read for free but it can't be much. Therefore I'll read the book and give a five star rating in remembrance of their previous efforts that were great. This has never happened to me with a BV Larson written book. Ever. Granted, the stories might not be very deep but they're entertaining as hell and always well written. If you've enjoyed the previous installments of Rebel Fleet this is another winner. Looking forward to the next!
I decided to plough through the final book in an effort to be done with the narcissistic Captain Blake, who, despite becoming clearly undone by his own machinations seems to fail completely in being redeemed by their harsh lessons. There's some intrigue, some backstabbing, and some 1960's style, camp Sex-fi (the Imperial Captains are all fashion models apparently and still fall for our bad boy who's clearly stuck in some pale 1950's Bond villain caricature), but it's all very predictable.
Definitely a page-turner, if only to allow me to move on to better fare.
This wasn't my favorite by Mr. Larson, but I kept reading and got into it. The first book started out in a strangely familiar way. Quite similar to the beginning of his Star Force series. That put me off slightly, but I kept going. As I said it got better and I got into it enjoying the main characters and the story in general. Mind you I've read almost 30 of Mr. Larson's books, so I obviously enjoy his style. Once again, it could've started better, but he casually pulled me right in.
Ok, if you are one of those people who rave about "space operas" or are a member of the grammar police then please, run far, run fast. If your like me and love pulp sci-fi, dark humour, and understand just how devious humanity is then this is the series for you. To me B V Larson is one of those writers who packs so much in and keeps you up all night reading. I need more
This series is a fun lark in machismo. It’s depth is shallow, but it’s pace is good and you won’t regret your time spent reading it. I look forward to the next edition of this series.
Another great book chronicling the journey of Captain Leo Blake and whoever is near him at the time. This series is so good. If you love science fiction this series is for you.
It was a very good read 1Earther out thinking and out sitting other beings who thought themselves as superior I would like to read more of captain Blake and his crew.
This is the fourth book in the series and the story continues, it had not been boring at all. The pace is still very fast and the plot keeps evolving which keeps the books interesting.
I seriously don’t know how the author keeps every one of these series so fresh, so fun, with very nice little twists and turns, tricks and betrayals. He must have an insane imagination. Either way it is a pleasure to keep enjoying them. I just hope he never runs out of ideas!!
Quite entertaining. Like the other books in the fleet series. Perfect for the vicarious thrills you want when you just have to escape. Love the con man persona. Would be nice to flesh out the other races and make them more enjoyable.
Nothing sophisticated, just an interesting, imaginative space adventure with intriguing characters. Escapist Sci-fi that doesn't strain the brain but also doesn't insult your intelligence. I'm reading all of his series of books.
Guilty pleasure. This is fun sci-fi dime store reading. Good for exercising, or while doing other tedious chores. Some interesting exploration on the concepts of trust, deceit, and leadership. Doesn't really cover any new ground.
