It's lonely at the top of Olympus

Hot-headed Zeus used to be King of the Gods. He did what he wanted, when he wanted, and no one, not even his wife, Hera, could keep him under control. His passions were legendary, and no mortal could resist his advances. He and his brothers ran wild on Earth. Bedding and breeding countless mortals until the jealous goddess’ rebelled and cursed their wayward husbands.

After centuries of anger, the brothers have finally deciphered the promise of an ancient oracle that will change their lonely existence forever, and usher in an age of New Olympians.

Cameron was a theater student, sure, he’s been around the block before, but no one had ever caught his eye like Zachary did. The muscles, the beard, the tattoos… he was everything that Cameron should have known to run far away from, but there was an electricity between them, something he couldn’t explain… what he doesn’t know is that Zachary isn’t everything he says he is, and there’s more at stake than just some Friday night hookup. Cameron’s demand for truth and honesty in a relationship could spell the end of his dreams or carry the promise of something beyond anything he could ever have imagined.

Zeus has been a bad boy and his wife is tired of it. As a matter of fact, all the Goddesses are tired of their husbands' philandering ways. So guess who's cursed? The Gods of Olympus must now decipher a prophecy to find a loophole.

This was cute and sweet. I enjoyed the different take on the Greek Gods and them finding their "spark". I love how Zeus/Zachary treated Cameron. I was kind of bummed about the ending. It was too vague and rushed. The rest of the book was great but the ending didn't follow through. I'm rounding down for that very reason. Otherwise it was a solid 4 stars for me. Hopefully the rest in the series are better.

Despite the shortness of the book I really enjoyed the story. It was a slightly new interpretation of Gods of Olympus. When I think about Gods what I usually imagine is strength and power and in this case author showed a different side, a more vulnerable side of the Gods and I really liked this new perspective. It's nice to know that even the immortal can be unsure and hesitating.

The characters of this book were well-written and what I liked about them both was that they actually took a little time to get to now each other. I mean, we all know how it was with Zeus from all the legends - he took what he wanted either using a disguise or simply because of him being a God. I am happy to say that this time Zeus aka Zachary had to work for it, had to doubt himself, try to find a way to understand Cameron and how to help him deal with what Zeus was offering.

I loved the whole premise of theater and Greek mythology. It was fun to get behind the curtain and see the inner workings of a play. It did seem that Cameron was made for Zeus. Besides that both Zeus and Cam had great chemistry and were very smexy together and it was written without overshadowing the story. Yes, it was insta-lust but it was also work in the progress to get this relationship off the ground. I loved the depiction of a relationship between the Gods. They were all quite the characters.

I wish it was a little longer because the ending felt a little rushed and when the villain was mentioned it was so veiled that I could not possibly know who it was, just a hypothetical guess. Another thing that got me a little flustered was the fact that at no point in the story did Cameron ever mention protection during s*e*x. I understand that Zeus had to do it bare to be sure but Cameron should have known better. I mean he was so trusting. Cam should have at least offered it and said something. I think that author should always advocate for safe s*e*x. Otherwise it was a very enjoyable read, funny and a little sweet. I recommend it!

I wish there was a little "more" meat to this. I loved some of the aspects.
If it was done in a bit more of a "serious" mood I could have had loads of fun with this.

It was a nice read though.

So, I realized something while reading this book: I tend to be a LOT harder on the rest of the story if there are stupid grammatical errors in the beginning. It's likely not the first time I've done it, but really came to me after making all the notes and highlights public...

Sadly, the covers and the blurb always trick me into believing that a book is gonna be way better than what it actually will be. There were so many things that didn't make sense, weren't clear or to better say, not completely explained, that I had an hard time really falling in love with the story and the MCs. (As I'm writing now I already forgot the name of one of the chars and I had to search for it.)
Anyway....Cameron tells us that he isn't "easy" or a slu*, but he actually sleeps without protection with a guy he barely knows, and when he still thought that he was a normal human and not Zeus, but Zachary, and I was like "Okkkkk", followed by one of the biggest eye rolls ever. Then there was another strange scene when Cameron was taking his nephews out on a walk...can someone tell me in which contry they still put 6 years old and 5 years old(or around it)on a stroller? This is absurd and made me laugh just thinking about all the babies of the same ages I have in my family and/or know..that would be impossible.

A huge disappointment, and now I have to read 5 more of them, hoping that this was the worst of them all.

This book while not perfect was loads of fun and very enjoyable to read. I have always been fascinated by Greek mythology, so a story about Zeus leaving Olympus to search for his spark, the one man that will be his true mate after thousands of years of celibacy due to a cures place upon his brothers and himself by the vengefull goddesses. I loved the dynamic between Cameron and Zachery (Zeus) watching Cameron come to terms with his BF being Zeus was fun. My only wish about this book was that the ending had not been quite so abrupt, though the two epilogues did help smooth that over a bit. Definitely moving on to read book 2 which is Poseidon's story... can't wait!!!

Hmmmm, I liked it, but the ending was extremely rushed and felt incomplete. I get that the series connects, but they still never talked about all the details. Hell, Cameron didn't even agree to be with him like that yet. He still thought he was a wee bit nutty.

How did Cameron react when he woke up in Olympus? I would have liked to read that.

The mystery of who is trying to kill their mates is juicy, tho. Off to the next.

I really, really enjoyed this story! New author, new ideas (love the idea of the Greek gods now in today's world and what they'd look like as mortal men and how they'd act) and a great combination of sweetness, sexy times, and mpreg (although the mpreg itself is pretty quick as far as being mentioned near the end, and not going from start to birth)

I love that Zeus/Zachary took the time to get to know Cameron - he went to his class, he met up with him outside of school, he went to his play and gave him roses *melts* - love that he basically woo-ed Cameron. And they had great chemistry and spark together - literally - and I enjoyed their time getting to know each other.

I do think the last 15% of the story felt super rushed, especially as when compared to the first two thirds of the book. I wish a bit more time had been spent on Cameron adjusting to knowing Zachary is a god and being pregnant, rather than it kinda just mentioned.

I can't wait for the other gods' stories - Poseidon, Hades, Hermes, and maybe more. There is definitely the beginnings of an overall conflict I think (Zachary notices something/someone stalking Cameron, not human I'm sure...) and can't wait to see that develop.

I love any book depicting the Greek Gods and goddesses so...👍

I received this book from the author for an honest opinion.
I love any book depicting the Greek Gods and goddesses so it was going to be a winner with me. This starts with a glimpse from the past when Zeus, Poisideon and Hades were living it up like their playboys. With there many affairs resulting in a cascade of demi Gods there wife's Hera, Amphitrite and Persephone curse them that no seed shall take anymore and that there touch shall lead that mortal to death. Wind the years to the present and what was the rambling talk of an old oracle starts to make sense after all this time and gives them hope that they might one day rebuild Olympus back to its former glory and they won't be lonely no more. This is where Zeus (Zachary) meets Cameron one of them "sparks" on earth that could banish the curse.
The goddesses cursed their husband's to never be able to procreate again but that hasn't stopped the Goddeses from letting their hair down and not following their own advice and this provides the loop hole to their curse. But even though Cameron and Zachary are getting along swimmingly the vengeful goddesses sees the unexpected loophole and go on the rampage to eliminate these salvations to their husbands.
I enjoyed the story that is a reinterpretation of the Greek myths. It was well written and which I happily ploughed through. I enjoyed the characters and the other Gods that the author introduced and am now eagerly anticipating Poisideon and Hades stories and of course the continuing story of beating the curse that the goddesses tried to reek havoc upon them.
Love the cover as well it really captures the magic of Greek myths of Gods and Goddesses I think.

This is an interesting new take on Greek mythology, something I have always enjoyed. After being cursed by the goddesses, Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, and the other Olympic gods have been lonely and unable to have children for centuries and Olympus is no longer what is was in millennia past. When Zeus is reminded of a prophecy that gives him just a bit of hope, he returns to Earth to try to find the mortal who supposedly is his "spark", the one who is meant for him and could bear his children. Enter Cameron, a broke, talented theatre student in New York. Cameron only knows Zeus as Zachary at first, and the two have an intense connection from the start (and the chemistry? HOT!).. But Cameron doesn't know who Zachary really is, and when he finds out, will he believe him and be willing to leave the life he has dreamed of? I enjoyed the world-building in this book and the buildup of their relationship quite a bit. It is a novella and as such is rather short, but I wish it had been longer as it seemed that the last third or so of the story was rushed and its ending was abrupt. I know there is more to come in the series (and I am so glad about that as I do really like where the overall arc seems to heading), but it felt as though Cam's decision and what happened after were almost glossed over, rather than allowed to play out more on page. But even with feeling a bit unsatisfied with the ending, I still enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the next in the series. I hope to see more of Zeus and Cam in future books, too, to see how their own story is evolving.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am a sucker for mpreg, I just wish there was a bit more of it than at the end of the book; but there is potential for the rest of the series to build off of this so I see potential in that aspect. This story also gives background on how the gods have found themselves in the position they are in. I was worried this wouldn’t have much of a love factor but these gods are going to find the love they never had before.

Cameron is adorable, I love his dedication to his sister and her kids and how hard he is willing to work for what he wants, even if it may not be what he originally planned. Zeus can’t deny the pull that Cameron has on him and he will do anything to protect and love him. I liked how these characters played off each other and look forward to reading more in this series.

All of the male Olympian Gods have been cursed for their philandering ways whether guilty or not by none other than Hera the Queen of the Gods herself who is fed up with her husband seducing everything that moves. This first in the series has Zeus attempting to circumvent that curse after centuries of enduring it's effects.

Too much expectations will ruin everything.
It was already so bad from the get go
How is okay for someone to take pictures of someone's ass without their permission that's straight up sexual harassment.

Their love didn't feel real
I feel like Zeus only sees Cameron as someone's who's convenient or as a walking womb.

Totally did this backwards! Read #2 before this one! But it was ok, I wasn't lost and it's kind of simultaneous in a way, lol.

I like this series. I adore mythology so I knew in some way I was going to like it and I did. It's just really short! Definitely continuing the series! :)

Now this is how you start a series! We get the backstory on the Gods and how they got to where they are as we meet Cameron and learn about him. I enjoyed these characters a lot. I think it’ll be even more exciting as the brothers find their sparks.

Interesting

This was a different take on Greek mythology but it was interesting. I like the little mystery of trying to figure who might want to harm the chosen mortals. This was not a HEA but a happily for now type story!

Why this book didn't work for me.

Let's start with what I did like: the idea was really good. From mythology, we know Zeus was very unfaithful to his wife Hera, he had many children and even with humans. So, the premise of the goddess finally making him pay was something good - just the execution failed.

This Zeus has been punished, and so he is not able to have children, anytime he 'cums' inside a human male or female they die [I assume this is what they meant since this wasn't extremely detailed]. This is something that has affected him since Hera cursed him and the other gods too. Everyone is on the same boat.

I didn't like Zeus; I think the fact the book was very short didn't give the opportunity for a character to built and develop [but even if it was longer, I think I would have still hated him]. Zeus is nice with Cameron, the other male character but always with an ulterior motive. This is what I didn't like! What was the need behind Zeus wanting more children, why did he and his brothers' goal was to have them by the hundredths? This is something we aren't told, we are just told how much they want to have children. We are just told Zeus is sad because he can't have children, all the goddesses have left Olympus, his lovers have died during sexual intercourse and while he 'loved' them he was sad for their demise. Now, if he loved them why would he have sex with them knowing they would die? The first time we understand but to continue doing this with the same result? What's the point?

Then we have Cameron who wants to be on Broadway, who is an amazing actor and singer, loves his family, and has a thing for hippies who have a beard and tattoos. Okay, what!? This is the whole basis for Cameron, he has a type when it comes to relationship and when he meets Zeus who is just that type that's the only connection. THE ROMANCE IS SO NONEXISTENCE. I'm sorry but there is no romance whatsoever, just physical attraction. Plus, Zeus' whole motive is to HAVE CHILDREN nothing else. He doesn't care that Cameron wants to be on Broadway, who has a sister and people he loves, who comes alive on the stage, who has friends, and is happy the way he is.

Zeus only cares to have children. PERIOD. He tells Cameron he will have his children, he will need to move away, leave everything behind, not tell his sister anything, drink ambrosia to be immortal, and yeah, that's it.

This book says: fuck romance, fuck dreams, forget about your life Cameron just jump into Zeus's bed, have lots of children and that's all you're good for.

The book was $0.99 and I never complain about a good deal but HOLY SHIT I WISH I HADN'T READ THIS.

This was such an interesting take on Zeus and his fellow Olympians. Zeus' wife (and those of his brothers Poseidon and Hades) got annoyed with their philandering with the human population so they put a curse on the guys to stop them. Tons of years later, Hades finds a loophole and Zeus goes to earth to find his "spark". When he meets Cameron, he knows immediately that he is the one true soul for him. Cameron was a great character. He was driven towards his career and very supportive to his sister who is a single mother. He meets "Zachary" and is immediately taken with him. They start dating and Zachary/Zeus is such a sweetheart.

Of course things get crazy when Zeus has to tell Cameron about who he is and what his future could be. Zeus is used to taking what he wants and being the big bad ruler, but he realizes that he needs to be different to keep Cameron and he genuinely wants Cameron to be happy. There is mpreg in this, and I wish there was a bit more explanation about all of that. I also wish we saw a bit more of Zeus and Cameron once they were together in Olympus and how their lives turned out, but I'm hoping we will see more of them in the next books.

Very cool concept and I am really interested in reading more of these!

Zeus was a huge horn-dog. If you look at the mythology surrounding him, he did just about everyone he could. It caused a lot of problems with Hera. She didn't like it. This book has to do with all of that.

Zeus, Posideon, and Hades were all cursed by their wives because they couldn't keep it in their togas. The way the curse works is that if any mortal gets the divine seed, it will kill them. However, there was an Oracle who created a prophecy who said that there was a way to break the curse. They just had to find it.

Cameron was a drama student in New York. He worked hard at his studies and in the shows he was in. One day at the coffee shop, he stood in line behind a guy with a fabulous rear view. The man ends up buying his coffee, in secret. Cameron went and chased after him and found out that his name was Zachary. (yeah, right, right?)

This was a really interesting book, with a premise that I haven't seen before, so that was pretty awesome. And since it isn't an omegaverse book, the fact that there is a male pregnancy was definitely a surprise for the pregnant male. And I really want to see the version of Dorian Gray that Cameron was in.

The Pros
Interesting premise. Greek gods needing to procreate but have to find their "sparks", mortals descended from immortal/mortal pairings in order to do so .

The Cons
A few typos (annoying, but not a deal breaker). Cameron, the mortal MC, goes on and on about how he wants to have a career and be a famous actor....but sets that all aside, it looks like permanently for Zeus. There's some suspension of disbelief needed too, because conservative and not even slightly promiscuous Cameron is letting Zeus bareback him from the get go. Plus there's other weird things too. Like Cameron takes his niece (age 4) and nephew (age 6) out for the day and gets accosted on the way back by a mugger. But the kids on both in a double seat stroller. What 6 year old.. or 4 year old for that matter...still needs a stroller? Do they even make strollers for kids that big? The ending was also super rushed.

The Pros
Even though Zeus was written as a total asshole I still liked him. Big feat for me. And Cameron, for all his insecurity and whininess was really likable too.

A fun read!

This is the first book I’ve read by the author, C.J. Vincent, and I’m impressed. I knew it was not a long read so prepared myself to expect the story to be a bit rushed. The end of the story was the only part that felt just a wee bit rushed but then I realized the story would continue throughout the series as each god found his mate.

The author presents us with the dilemma facing the Greek god, Zeus. Zeus needs to repopulate Olympus. There is a mate for him somewhere on earth and Zeus must find him and convince him to return with him to Olympus to give birth to his children. The story sounds a bit silly but it works. Zeus finds a young theater student, Cameron, and courts him. The story is about their relationship and whether or not Cameron will feel the same towards Zeus. It is a bit silly but a great read. I like the author’s writing style. I enjoyed the book so much I went ahead and purchased the series. Kudos to the author for a delightful read.

This is the first book in The New Olympians Series. I have mixed feelings about this book. I love the story idea I’m just not sure that it was brought out to its fullest. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters likeable. The characters needed to be developed more and background added. I didn’t feel like I knew anything about Cameron other than his family and wanting to be an actor. Zeus was a little better but not by much. Zeus/Zachary and Cameron are the MC’s of this book. There was humor, family, kids, a play, storms, a curse, flowers and more in this book. I felt like there were holes in the story and not enough detail. But again, I really did like the story idea. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Picked this up because it was on sale for 99 cents. I don't really have regrets...but also I have concerns about the whole plot. I mean, Zeus is basically like, "We cheated on our spouses but, like, they knew the score. It's not like it was a big deal or anything. So those b*tches cursed us! The absolute nerve! Anyway, it's been a lot to deal with, but we cursed them right back and banished them, because they're legit the worst. Like. Can you believe they were mad that we were just running around non-consensually knocking up mortals? Anyway, now we're just wallowing because we'll kill any mortal we have sex with and we haven't had babies in hundreds of years. Feel bad for us!"

yikes gif

But also I might read the next one because I'm a little curious what happens.
