When her twin sister mysteriously dies, New York Times bestselling author Nora Bassett’s world is turned upside down. Lost in grief, she is shocked to find that she’s the sole beneficiary of Black Willow, the giant Victorian farmhouse in Pennsylvania Dutch Country her sister had been in the process of renovating into an inn. Desperate to feel close to her sister, Nora moves her writing career into Black Willow to continue renovations at the side of Ben Whitfield, the rugged, handsome contractor her sister had hired. But as strange things begin to happen, Nora finds herself drawn into the mystery of the house and the dark secrets it holds—unaware of just how close danger lurks.
A dream job. That’s what contractor Ben Whitfield thought when he agreed to take on the renovation of the monstrous house. A dream job, that is, until he stumbles across the dead body of the young woman who’d hired him. And when an exact replica of her shows up as the new owner, Ben is shocked at how quickly he finds himself falling in love with the beautiful stranger. But as the grand opening of the inn nears, danger escalates. Ben suspects that Nora’s life may be in jeopardy—and he will do anything to protect her. Together, the two must race to uncover the truth that remains hidden beneath Black Willow Farm’s beautiful, dark surface before it’s too late…
Do you hear spooky thumps in the night? This book will put you right there in this action, romance, mystery spooky plot. It kept me guessing right up to the happy ending.
My husband and I stayed at the B&B owned by the author and her husband back when we got married in 2012. It was wonderful. We went back just to stay a couple nights this year and that’s when I saw her book on display in the dining room. Her husband, our cook, got her to personalize and autograph the one I bought. Our stay was, again, wonderful, and I really enjoyed the book. I hope there are more books from her to come!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Couldn’t stop reading it once I started. I loved the story, the characters and all of the suspense. Highly recommend for romance and/or suspense lovers like me
I felt there were too many plot holes. The story kept me interested, but in the end, it left me with way more questions than answers (and not in a good way).
This book could have been so much better, it just wasn’t there. I didn’t realize it was a romantic suspense novel, nor did I realize that was a category…the romance part was just too much for me, like a harlequin novel…but aside from that, the suspense was not very suspenseful.
What could have been a terrifying supernatural thriller was squashed in the beginning when a charter was “revealed” as the villain, out to reclaim his family home. Nora heard all the things go bump in the night and you knew it was this guy. The emphasis on Ethan being creepy and Adam being too good to be true was too much and you knew they were involved. You knew Ben was going to save her in the end and it was all very predictable because of the character reveal at the beginning. Even that was childish, the way he talked and scowled about Nora, all I could think of was a cartoon character that was mad, I’m gonna get you…
I wanted to give it 3 1/2 stars, but since I missed it being a romantic suspense, I went with 4 just out of courtesy.

I loved this book! I was looking for a good book that would hold my attention and found this one. I couldn’t stop reading, once I started. I loved the characters and the story. And that house!!! I could see it so clearly in my mind. If it was a real place, like an actual B&B, I would go there in a heartbeat. That’s how good the author described it. If you love romantic suspense as much as I do (and I freaking love it) read this one. There were things I sort of expected, but there were also twists that threw me, and I love when a book does that to me.
