Shot On Goal: Seattle Sockeyes Hockey was the eleventh book in the Game On in Seattle series by Jami Davenport.

Drew Delacorte was an NHL superstar. He had raw talent but his attitude had diminished over the years and he no longer loved the game, but had come to despise it. Guilt drove him and it was sending him in a downward spiral without hope. He was at a cross roads and had no idea where or how to turn.

Marina Sanders was a former Figure Skating Olympian where one bad decision ruined her image and Olympic hopes in one fail swoop. She fled the country and after four years was back to determine her future.

Shot On Goal was told with a dual POV. It had a strong storyline that kept me intrigued from beginning to end. It was also emotional and tugged at my heartstrings. At times it was depressing. But in the end it was a journey of healing, growing pains, living with mistakes, and acceptance.

All in all, it was a quick and entertaining read. The double epilogue hinted to the Hockey aspect of the series completed; however, there are still a few teammates left to explore, so hopefully this won’t be the last chapter. Davenport did, however, introduce a new spinoff series, Gone Missing, featuring Bronson. I’m definitely intrigued and can’t wait to see where Davenport leads us.

Readers looking for a good hockey romance should take a look at Shot on Goal by Jami Davenport.

This book had a nice enemies to lovers vibe. Two people with a history that has left them at odds find themselves in a situation where they are forced to work together.
They bump heads when they're together but at the same time sparks fly between them.

Drew had a lot going on in his life during this story. He's suffering from a recent loss and his relationship with his parents is strained. He's also dealing with the fact that while he might have a lot of talent on the ice, he's not sure his heart is in it anymore. I felt like he was a well layered and developed character. He had things about himself to figure out and come to terms with.

Marina also has her own share of issues and a checkered past to work through. She's a strong woman though and I really respected the way she was trying to redeem herself.

This was overall a good story and one I would recommend to sports romance fans.

Shot On Goal was a great read.
I've paticularly enjoyed to follow the Sockeyes during the play off and their quest to the Stanley Cup.

Marina,our heroine,was a famous figure skater until all her dreams were destroyed by a scandal at the Olympic games that made her run from the Sates.Drew,our hero, is a great hockey player but he is crushing under the weight of his parents and team mates expectations.Our heroine after four years comes back home and becomes one of Drew's coaches.They have a lot in cmmon,they understand each other really well, and their chemistry is off the charts but they try to make the best choice to not ruin their careers.Will they succed?

Jami Davenport writing made me feel part of this story since the first chapter.I was really involved in the main characters lives,I've rejoiced with them and at times I've also cried for them.

5 star Review Shot On Goal: Seattle Sockeyes Hockey (Game On In Seattle #11) by Jami Davenport

This is book 11 in the series and another winner for Jami Davenport in my humble opinion; it most certainly can be read as a stand alone. This is Drew Delacorte and Marina Sanders story.

I absolutely loved Drew and Marina, two people hurt by their pasts yet equally determined to rise from the ashes and move on.

Every time I read a book in this series, I think “oh this is my favourite” and then along comes Jami Davenport with another Seattle Sockeyes novel to prove me wrong.

Drew is the son of one of the leagues most famous players, so he has a lot of expectations riding on his shoulders and these have caused him to resent and hate the game he is playing. Since his brother died, it’s all on him to succeed and yet he is considering retiring.

Marina is an elite figure skater, winner of an Olympic bronze medal, the woman who after making bad decisions, lost it all and now has to scramble to get her life back together.

When Marina is recruited to get the team ready for the play-offs, sparks fly between Drew and her. However these two have a shared past that may not be so easy to put behind them. Will the chemistry and obvious attraction be enough for them to overcome the painful hurts of the past and find a future together or are they destined to be torn apart?

From the start of Shot On Goal I wanted these two to get together and remain that way. Can they each work through the troubles of their pasts and in doing so find a love that is strong enough to survive?

I love that Ms.Davenport’s characters are not perfect, they are flawed and the situations they find themselves in are easy to relate too, her characters are strong and her stories well written.

Ms. Davenport had me hooked from the first to the last chapter; Shot On Goal is a powerful story that I recommend you one click.

Drew has the world at his feet, a star player for the sockeyes, he should be loving life, but he’s not. He’s lost his love for hockey and with an overbearing father breathing down his knack he can’t see a way forward. Marina, had the world at her feet, an Olympic gold medal in her sight, one wrong decision ripped her dream away and sent her into hiding. Now she’s back and is given a second chance working as a skating coach, some have welcomed her, a few are wary and not happy about her new role. From the minute Drew and Marina meet, sparks fly between them, their pasts are connected, but not in a good way. They should stay far away from each other, lines shouldn’t be crossed, can they help each other? Can the past be put behind them?? You will have to read to find out!

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end, I was sucked straight into the story and was sad when it ended. I loved both characters, they both were a little bit broken, both had trauma and loss in their past which was shaping their futures. I loved how they worked together and separately on finding happiness, there’s some steamy moments that melt your kindle and great hockey scenes, that sports fans will love. Another fabulous read from this author.

When reading Jami Davenport’s Sockeye Series you can’t help thinking that this team is real and you can’t help feel you want to see this team reach the pinnacle of success.
Drew Delacorte is a player with The Sockeyes not feeling like a man on the brink of playing on a team that can win the Cup. He is a man at a crossroads playing not for himself but for his overbearing parents and his deceased brother but when the team hires a disgraced former figure skater to there staff he can’t help feel that Marina Sanders can be his cure for it all.
Marina Sanders a disgraced Olympic Figure Skating champion has come back to the states with the hope of correcting her wrongs and moving forward with her life given the opportunity to work for the Sockeyes is her first step. Meeting Drew Delacorte wasn’t suppose to happen but he has and it makes things complicated in a good kind of way.
Drew & Marina can’t help feeling the feelings they have the chemistry is off the charts whenever they are near each other but can they overcome all the obstacles to be together or do they go there separate ways. All you hope as you turn each page that these two people can find a way to get not only what they want out of their careers but also to find that HEA.

~~~~~~~~~~Tracy's ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Drew is a hockey player with the Seattle Sockeye's that is struggling to get his passion back. His team is gearing up to make the run for the Cup but with his father's expectations he is being drug down and lacking the love of the game. That is until he sees Marina. Marina is a fallen figure skater trying to get the respect and reputation she lost four years ago. When she takes on a job that puts her right into the arms of Drew she doesn't know what she should chose. This story was so engaging and I loved every second of it. Drew and Marina have so much chemistry on and off the ice. I love a good hockey romance and this book delivered on every level.
Jami Davenport's Hockey romance books are just so fun to read. The Sockeyes are my favorite kind of guys. They are fun and helleva sexy. Drew had my heart twisted up. When you start reading his story, you are sure that his life is spiraling out of control. His parents were not my favorite people at all. I wanted to jump in the book and knock some sense into them. I just could not understand their hearts or mind set.
My heart strings were pulled when I read about Marina. Her past also is painful and you cheer her on through the story. There was so much chemistry and forbidden romance going on with Drew and Marina, but at the same time you get a rush out of these two. I loved the feels you get and the passion.
Shot on Goal was a perfect weekend read for me!
Being the best does not mean that you lose yourself in the shuffle. It means staying true to the person you are, not the person others want you to be. Davenport lays it all on the line with Shot on Goal. In the midst of the bright lights of fame and the expectations of others, Marina and Drew just want to be happy. At their lowest, through identity crisis and the scandal of the spotlight, each has to tackle painful truths. Is this the life they really want or could there be something more fulfilling waiting on the horizon? Shot on Goal is an experience in soul searching. It's painful, insightful and uplifting. Realistic entertainment.
Fans of sports-themed romances will find this an exhilarating ride, with bits of angst along the way that sometimes left me frustrated, but ultimately left me satisfied by its cheer-worthy ending. It’s a tale of second chances, self-doubt, and living a fulfilling life that pulled me in and wrapped up this book (series) with a heartwarming bow.
Drew Delacorte was always meant to be a star hockey player, but lately he’s starting to wonder why he ever started playing in the first place. At one point playing might have been fun, but since the death of his brother he’s feeling weighed down by expectations and promises made to a dying man. He’s no longer feeling fulfilled, neither on the ice nor off, and it’s starting to show as he’s playing with less heart and soul. The same can be said of his lack of a love life as he’s never found anyone worth spending more than a night with. The moment disgraced former ice skater Marina steps on his ice though his life changes irrevocably as she gives him a glimpse of HEA, gives him unconditional support, and inspires him like nothing else has before. It’s a rocky relationship though, one weighed down by their own fears, as well as judgments from the outside world which leads to a big misunderstanding. Through it all Drew’s a delicious hero who wears his heart on his sleeve. When it comes to his feelings for Marina he’s quick to want to acknowledge their connection as he’s proud to have her by his side. Though they have a prior connection he doesn’t hold her past against her as they got to know each other on a deeper level. I felt sympathetic towards him as he just seemed so unhappy at the start of the story. His father was hypercritical of him, constantly used guilt over his dead son to push Drew into doing what he wanted, and I dreaded each time he came on the scene. His love for Drew seemed contingent on his hockey success and their big talk at the end still made me doubt his father’s sincerity and it made me ache for Drew through most of the story. All I wanted to do was hug him as it quickly became clear who and what brought him contentment.
Marina Sanders was once the darling of the ice skating world until bad decisions, and disloyal friends, left her reputation in shatters and had her fleeing across the ocean to make a living. Tired of hiding, and once again being used by others, she leaves it all behind for a job in the States in the hockey world. Joining the Sockeyes may get her back on the ice but it also puts her in close quarters with people from her past. Though she expects people’s anger, she doesn’t expect to find a kindred spirit in Drew as they find themselves drawn to each other while figuring out their futures. Through this journey Marina seems a bit naive at times, a bit fatalistic too in her thoughts of how Drew feels about her. Her past has made her leery of trusting others and that’s quite clear when it comes to her difficulties with saying “I Love You”. Though she finds it difficult to speak outright with Drew, I did admire her talk with his mother that had her finally sticking up for herself. She might not have been my favorite heroine at times, but I could easily see myself interacting with her and I appreciated her unwavering support of Drew when he needed it most.
This was a sensual read full of heartache and exhilarating sports scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. While rooting for this emotionally bruised main couple to find their way to HEA, I also found myself rooting for the Sockeyes to win the Cup. In a romance teeming with self-doubt, Drew and Marina take readers on a roller coaster ride of emotions that led to scorching interludes as well as heartbreaking decisions. Theirs was ultimately a romance nicely balanced with sports scenes that immersed me even further into this larger than life world. Action on the ice had my heart pumping, left me cheering and screaming, while I got glimpses of other intriguing players who all form an unlikely family in their run for the Cup. They were a dedicated bunch, willing to call out others for bad behavior when needed, and I’m left wanting to read their previously-told stories while waiting for new ones to hopefully be written. Though there’s a sense of completeness with this story, and its epilogues, I look forward to returning to this world and the appealing cast of characters found amidst the pages.
4.5 amazing stars!
I love stories that have wounded or troubled main characters, ones that draw you in and make you empathize with their struggle. Shot on Goal, a sports romance, features two amazing main characters that shouldn’t be drawn to each other but can’t avoid the attraction, as much as they try. One is a star, conflicted and racked with guilt, wanting to hang up his skates; the other a fallen star, anxious to find a way back into the sport she loved, to get the tip of her skate in the door, looking for a second chance. I loved this story, it was at times emotional, and the chemistry these two had was so strong I’m surprised the ice didn’t melt! This story is part of the Seattle Sockeyes Hockey/Game on in Seattle series, and I’m going to backtrack and read the previous ones, I loved this author’s writing and I want to know more about the other players.
“It’s easy to fall in a hole and bury yourself but not so easy to dig your way out.”
Marina Sanders has been given an opportunity to come back to the United States and work as a trainer, though not in figure skating, as she’s hoped for. The disgraced former Olympic Bronze winner had been in Europe for four years, after an unfortunate and scandalous incident known as SkateGate on social media ended her career and dream of another medal. She’d been working with young skaters, lucky to have found that job, but now she’s been offered a position with the Seattle Sockeyes Hockey team. The owner and coaching staff want to see if the players can improve their game by going back to basics and learn some moves from her. She’s lucky to be working at all; she’d been a pariah due to her reputation and she needs to prove she’s serious about her job.
“She’d lost more than a gold medal. She’d lost her own self-respect”
Drew Delacorte is a star player with the Sockeyes and part of hockey royalty. His father is a former NHL player, a Hall of Famer, and his mother was an Olympic figure skating coach, who happened to be Marina’s former coach. His older brother, David, a rising NHL player, died tragically before he could achieve his dream of winning the Stanley Cup. Now it’s up to Drew, something his father has harped on for too many years, berating, controlling and trying to manage his every move.
"The person we are on the surface isn't who we are underneath. I'm guessing you know all about how deceiving appearances can be."
 Drew’s not sure if he even likes to play anymore, he’s lost his mojo and it shows. At twenty-six, he’s seriously thinking about hanging up his skates, something he’s afraid to admit to anyone.  That is until Marina starts to work with him and renews his passion for skating. Unfortunately, it could come with a cost neither one of them is prepared to pay.
“We’re all responsible to play the cards we’re dealt, good or bad hand. You do what you can. Sometimes you bluff, sometimes you fold.”
Most men would love to be where Drew Delacorte is at in his life, playing his best hockey, part of an amazing NHL team with a long career ahead of him, and partaking in all the added comforts his career brings him, but somewhere along the way Drew has lost himself in the dream. At one point and time he loved being on the ice, going head to head with competitors for the puck, but now when he's on the ice it doesn't feel the same way it once did, now it feels more like another expectation to keep up for his parents. He is supposed to be carrying on the family name in the hockey world, but how is he supposed to do that when he is this lost his zest for the game?
Then one day when everything finally comes to a head, Drew heads to the rink before the team arrives for some thinking time and skating, being one with the ice has always brought him peace, and he is hoping it will do the trick now. But shortly after he arrives he realizes he is not the only one looking for some uninterrupted skate time, as soon as his eyes land on the beautiful girl skating he can't help but be taken with her, she brings a tranquility to the ice that leaves him in awe and a little envious. Neither one of them wants to give up their alone time on the ice, so they come to an agreement of sorts, they will share it, but before long that is not the only thing they begin to share... their heartbreaking pasts unite them, and soon the sparks start to fly! But an in-pass is on the horizon...
Shot on Goal captured my attention right from the start and had me flying right through the pages, with a dire need to know more, which inevitability had me staying up well past my bedtime just to get my fix, and boy was it worth it! The chemistry between Drew and Marina was off the charts and their sneaky little encounters on the ice, and off, had me swooning nonstop! I really loved this pairing, they both had competitive spirits, and it was fun to watch them go head to head, and bring out the best in one another, and bring out some serious sizzle here and there too! If you like sports romance stories, then I highly suggest you check this one out, within it's pages you will find a heartfelt story line riddled with drama, passion, raw emotion, and of course the good stuff... heat!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
What happens when an ex-figure skating princess and a future hockey hall of famer meet? You can feel the heat through the screen/pages while you read.
Marina Sanders had won an Olympic bronze medal in figure skating just a short time after her parents died in a car accident. At the next winter games all of that fan love came crashing down on her when some events happened causing not just her but other skaters from missing the podium. She ran to Europe for awhile and had hoped it would all be behind her when she accepted a temporary contract with the Seattle Sockeyes hockey team. She would be working with each player as a skating coach in an attempt to gain an edge while the team was hoping to not only make it but win the Stanley Cup. Would it help her gain confidence in herself back and realize not everyone hated her anymore?
Drew Delacorte didn't love hockey anymore, in fact he almost hated it. He wanted to find that love again, the fun of playing, the excitement of passing and the thrill of scoring a goal, those things were gone now. The pressure of his father (former NHL player) being verbally abusive in his attempt to push Drew to play better and the guilt of his brother dying while saving him had made him lose it all. One night he went to the rink to skate and was at first upset Marina was there at all. But by the end of the night he was glad she had been because she brought a little bit of light back into his game. How would he handle finding out she was now a part of the team and that would mean she was off limits....or was she?
Little did either of them realize how much of a connection they had when they were together both on and off the ice. Marina would help Drew find the hockey passion again and stand up to his father while Drew would help Marina find herself and know she could fall in love. The problem was they couldn't let Drew's parents find out, let alone the rest of the players and staff. For if they did as quick as the flame between them ignited, it could easily be snuffed.
Another game winner for Jami Davenport with this book. Her ability to take basic words and put them into a book that you do not want to put down is almost as magically as the book itself. This is a book that you will not be disappointed in at all.
I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I give Shot on Goal 5 stars for making me feel so many emotions. I felt all the highs and lows right along with Marina and Drew. The characters were so believable and real, and the chemistry was off the charts. Having lived the tragedies they did, many would have caved but they remained true to themselves and kept pushing forward. Having goals and determination is key to getting what you want!
Jami Davenport is fast becoming a favourite author of mine. She is an awesome author who blends sports, romance and everyday issues into her writing. Once again she created strong characters who have lived some of life’s most unpleasant experiences and helps to get them through it. A great story blending the different skating worlds into one.
After four years hiding out in Europe, Marina has returned to Seattle. When she decided to get a skating session in at the arena she met up with Drew. He also had the idea of clearing his head by doing a late skate session on a Friday night. Why did he have to be one of the first people she ran into after returning State side?
When you're at the top, there's nowhere to go but down. Drew Delacorte was having a mid-life crisis—at age twenty-six. He was a man locked in a career he wasn’t sure he’d ever wanted. After his brother was killed and he was guilted into living in his brother’s shadow, he was not happy and was just getting by day by day. When was the last time he’d had fun or laughed with meaning?
Marina Sanders wasn’t happy about her current situation, but she was no stranger to unhappiness, so she’d power through it. Her professional skating career had tanked four years ago and she was suspended indefinitely from figure skating competition. She wanted a second chance, even though she’d humiliated her country, and threw away a gold medal in the process. Would she get her second chance?
Shot on Goal is a contemporary romance novel that involves death, youthful mistakes and very controlling parents. The ins and outs of these characters from when they were young to fours years later is amazing. A great story about learning from your mistakes, and dealing with consequences of your actions. A wonderful read!
I recommend this book, you will love it.
Crashing the Boards: Seattle Sockeyes Hockey (Game On in Seattle, #1.5)
Crashing the Net: Seattle Sockeyes Hockey (Game On in Seattle, #2)
Love at First Snow: Seattle Sockeyes Hockey (Game On in Seattle, #2.5)
Game Changer: Seattle Steelheads Football (Game On in Seattle #7)
Goaltending (Game On in Seattle #8)
Penalty Play (Game On in Seattle #9)
This is Marina and Drew’s story. After losing her parents Marina went on to win a bronze metal at the Olympics. But the next one she didn’t even win a metal. She is hurting and trying to put everything behind her. She took a job helping hockey players. Drew has a love/hate relationship with hockey. He used to love it now he hates it. He would like to get back to loving it but is it possible? The chemistry between these two is off the charts. If they pursue something together it will have to stay a secret as they could both get into trouble for it. Are the willing to risk it? Can the passion between them heal there broken hearts? Or will it destroy them both in the end?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I recommend this book.
I was excited to read Jami Davenport’s eleventh book in the Game On in Seattle hockey series. I thoroughly enjoyed this emotionally satisfying story and I found it easy to connect with the characters. This story centers on Drew and Marina, who first meet when Marina is hired by the Sockeyes as a skating coach. Drew and Marina have a lot of chemistry but try to ignore their feelings because they work together.
Drew is one of the star players with the Sockeyes. His father is a hockey legend and Drew has always been expected to play hockey. Unfortunately, Drew’s father is judgemental and condescending and it has taken all the fun out the sport for Drew. Even though Drew has a lot of talent, he lacks drive and ambition and resents the sport and his father. On the outside Drew’s life looks perfect, but he is unhappy and afraid to make any changes.
Four years ago Marina ruined her figure skating career and her chances of a medal in the Olympics. She was young and stupid and made mistakes she is still paying for today. Marina has had her share of bad times and being judged unfairly. Over time, she has had to learn to pretend not care what others think of her. When Marina meets Drew, she recognizes the sadness in his eyes and they draw her in.
Drew and Marina are each damaged in their own way and have tons of baggage. They are each caught up in a lot of negativity in their lives and trying to move forward after devastating events. They don’t trust easily and have learned to shut everyone out. Even though they are both extremely talented in their field, they are not happy. Circumstances make them wrong for each other, but they find it hard to ignore the chemistry flowing between them. This is another heartwarming and sexy story.
She’s a disgraced Olympic medalist fighting for any career in figure skating. He’s a talented hockey player, but doesn’t love the game as much as he should. Both were at the top of their games when one career was ruined by scandal and the other’s was being torn apart by his father’s manipulations and guilt trips.
Marina and Drew may come from opposite sides of the ice but when they get together, things get hot enough to combust. Will their fire meld their souls back together and heal them both or will it cause both of their futures to go up in flames?
I really enjoyed how different Marina and Drew were in some ways and then so in tune in others. Both had amazing talent in their respective sports. Drew is willing to let his chance go because he’s not in love with playing hockey. Marina would do anything to get her career back because she loves skating and competing more than anything else. Yet, they fit together so well. Both have baggage concerning their pasts and both have suffered the loss of someone close to them that still affects them. They are so drawn to one another, but both know their being together jeopardizes their future.
I loved that this book was about second chances. Not at a relationship, but at finding what makes you happy in life. Yes, this couple was hot hot hot, but they were amazing friends, both willing to sacrifice their chance at love so the other could achieve their goals and dreams to be happy in the life they are leading.
Hockey fans will love the build up of following the Sockeyes on their quest for the cup and romantics will adore Drew and Marina together. 4 stars
I love the Game On Series and Drew Delacort's character is definitely a testament as to why this series is so special.
Drew's heart is not really into hockey. He is one of the top players on the Sockeyes, who are having a great year and making a playoff run, however, he personally is not finding enjoyment in playing anymore and not really playing for himself either. He truly is a sweet man who carries some heavy weight around; specifically the death of his brother and a father who is a former NHL star who pushes relentlessly for him to be like him and his dead brother. Something he has lost his passion for.
Enter Marina Sanders. The team hires her as a skating coach. She was a prominent figure skater a few years back but because of some poor choices and bad decisions she fell from grace. The Sockeye's are hoping she will breathe new life into the team. Well she certainly breathes new life and passion into Drew and vice versa!! They have amazing chemistry but because of her past and the fact that players and coaches are not supposed to fraternize, they try to stay away from each other except for in a professional capacity. That doesn't work for too long because they are drawn to each other.
I love Drew and Marina together and I think they are perfect for each other. They both have goals though that will not necessarily work in their favor. Will the team finally grasp the elusive Stanley Cup? Will Drew and Marina be able to figure out away to align their goals and lives to grasp the elusive happily ever after they both deserve so much?
This is such an awesome story and I really felt so happy and content at the end.
Dang I love a good hockey romance and Jami Davenport did not disappoint me at all with Shot On Goal!! I was instantly pulled into the book and felt a real connection with the characters.
Drew once loved hockey, but now his love for it is gone and now he is unsure if anything. At the top of his game Drew appears to have it all and be the envy of so many but deep down he struggles and it’s hard to see an out on the other side.
Marina had made mistakes, one huge mistake that costed her a career she absolutely loved. An Olympic medalist and star skater now disgraced has one last chance to make something of herself and when given the chance to work with a hickey team she took it!!!
When Drew and Marina first met it was instant chemistry. Although they shouldn’t cross the line and act on their attraction to one another they didn’t know it was just one line they shouldn’t cross. Their past were connected and as they blur those lines they get closer to what will may tear them completely apart.
I loved the characters, the story and the emotions Davenport brought out. Reading the struggles that Drew and Marina had to go through was so relatable and heartbreaking. What I loved most though was their strength. They are fighters and with everything threatening to bring them down they fought to not let that happen. Over all a very delicious, sports enthusiast romance!! Would definitely read more of this series.
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
I so enjoy Jami Davenport's Game On In Seattle series and Shot on Goal was no exception.
Drew Delacorte is one talent hockey player, one on a team that is having an amazing year, but he's also a very unhappy hockey player. He doesn't have the passion and love of the game that he used to. He's basically playing for other people and not for himself and his own enjoyment. He's trying to carry on a family tradition, one that he feels a great deal of pressure to keep alive.
Marina Sanders had Olympic figure skating gold in her sights, but a wrong decision led to her downfall, leaving her in disgrace causing her to flee the country. Now she's back and trying to move forward with her life and becoming the skating coach for the Seattle Sockeyes might just be the way to do that.
Since Drew and Marina are both involved with the Sockeyes, the fact that their chemistry is off the charts when they meet is less than ideal. They really can't be involved due to the fraternization rules within the team, but the pull is so strong will they be able to fight their attraction?
This was a fantastic addition to the series and one that I did not want to put down. All I wanted to do was keep reading to see if these two individuals were going to not only find happiness in their professional lives, but also in their personal lives. Kudos to Jami Davenport for another awesome read!
Book 11 in the Game on in Seattle Series featuring the Seattle Sockeyes Hockey Team and for me this series is just getting better and better with every book I read and please don’t be put off by this being book 11 because each book is about a different player and they can all be read as a stand-alones.
Drew comes from Hockey Royalty his father was one of the greats and his brother was destined for great things before a tragic accident took his life so it’s now up to Drew to play not only for himself but also for his father and the ghost of his brother but is this the life he really wants what used to be fun has turned into just a job and a job he isn’t doing very well.....
Marina was on track for Olympic history as a figure skater but being young and reckless she ruined any chance of that and now the only option she has is helping the Seattle Sockeyes with their skating edges. The attraction between Drew and Marina is instant and the chemistry sizzling but can they both put the past in the past and move on and will Drew’s family and team politics allow it.........
I loved this book from the very first chapter and I couldn’t put it down until I had read the last line, both characters needed help they both had issues that had broken them but together they became strong and I,over the depth and strength that Drew and Marina showed as they processed with their love story. This is a must read for all sports and hockey fans as well as all romance lovers.
I read a few books of the Game On in Seattle books before and missed some in the middle, but that wasn’t a problem while reading this book. It is part of the series set in the sports community in Seattle, but can be read as a complete standalone.
The book starts smack dab in the middle of the fight for the Stanley Cup and sucked me right in. I liked that there was not a lot of foreplay and explanations, but the action started immediately. The characters were very well portrayed and I could connect easily with them. Their actions and feelings seemed real and understandable. I just wished for a little more insight in what happened exactly four years ago. It was explained, yes, but only with two or three sentences and I wished that Marina would get her public “apology” somehow, because it wasn’t only her fault.
The writing style is good and fluent and made it easy for me to read the book and follow the plot. There were no real side plots and I enjoyed getting a book that was straight forward. I did not expect the ending and the decisions the two main characters made. At all. So that was a surprising twist I really liked and made me look forward to more books from this author.
PS: I started rereading the whole series, after I finished this one, because I forgot how much I liked the books.
Jami Davenport lights the lamp with SHOT ON GOAL, the eleventh book in the Game On in Seattle series. Hockey star Drew Delacorte and former Olympic figure skater Marina Sanders are broken souls. This is their story about what caused their troubles and what is in store for their future. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult audiences.
I adore Drew and Marina. They have a complicated past. They are both broken and get what the other is going through. They are both very human. They have made mistakes and must live with the consequences.
I appreciated that Marina was given an opportunity with the Sockeyes. She is a tough individual with a lot of talent. Drew and his parents are living with the ghost of Drew’s dead brother David. Drew is being smothered by his parents and no longer enjoys life until Marina makes him smile again.
I like that the story was realistic. The characters face a lot of difficult decisions and make hard choices. Things don’t always turn out how they want. This novel is an excellent example of how one mistake can impact your life. Unexpected things happen. I like how the story was resolved. Furthermore, I love that the Sockeye’s make it to the Stanley Cup Finals. There are some great hockey scenes. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Drew Delacorte has it all, he has a great future with the Sockeyes hockey team, he’s in his prime, a great career and he should be loving it but he’s not. He’s beginning to feel like he’s reached an impasse, his mind is not on his game. Alone time on the ice is always good to think....until this time he meets Marina, a fellow skater who also likes alone time, but she’s not just any skater, Marina is the Olympic figure skating star who made a bad mistake and consequently lost it all. When his managers bring her in as a skating coach, Drew is okay with it, their previous meetings they kept to them selves though, some of the guys are not too sure about the new coaching but most are. And the journey commences.
Hockey and Figure skating make an interesting combination. Both Drew and Marina had a lot to deal with. Drew really needs to talk, his struggles were pulling him down and his team. Marina also has issues that need to be put to rest. Can they help each other? Or are they worlds apart and more likely to combust on impact.
An entertaining sports/romance. A wonderful storyline, tasteful love scenes and of course great tension filled hockey scenes. I love the Game On in Seattle series, looking forward to more!
A Road Well Worth Reading!
I think that this is my favorite story my Ms. Davenport to date. The story of how Drew and Marina find their way to each other is a tough one. Each character has their flaws and there is no easy route to them being together and I think that is what I liked about it the most. No one is without flaws and problems in the real world and seeing these two work things thru made them seem more like real people rather than just two characters in a story. Drew is not sure what he wants in his future and Marina knows what she wants but doesn’t think she can ever achieve it. They have both made mistakes in their lives and have to learn to forgive themselves before they can open up to other people. It’s not a clear path for either of them and the wonderfully written story makes the trip well worth the read. You also get to see other characters you have come to know, and others you can’t wait to get to know better. Ms. Davenport excels in storytelling, especially in the world of sports and families and how they all come together. I can’t wait to see what new stories she has to share with us in the future.
This is book #11, in the Game On In Seattle series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader understanding and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this incredible series in order.
Drew and Marina have a complicated history. With a lot of tragedy in their pasts in common, they bond on the current love of hockey and all that it means to both of them. Drew has finally figured out what he wants - and it is Marina.
Marina has had a long climb back to the opportunity she has been given for this great team. She cannot afford to lose it by being attracted to the sexiest man she has ever seen. With all that they have between them, she is shy to give even herself a chance.
This book was such a slow burn, I honestly almost put it away and gave up. I will be completely honest with you. It was close. The burn in this book builds and builds with conflict and intense heat, that it actually became this author's best work for me in the end. I loved the characters, the series, and the subject. Totally great read and I highly recommend! I give this a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!
Shot on Goal: Seattle Sockeyes Hockey (Game on in Seattle #11)
By Jami Davenport
5 stars
Reviewed on behalf of 3 Degrees of Fiction Book Blog
Shot on Goal was a brilliant read! This is the second book that I have read by this author and the second book that I have loved. I love the authors writing style, it’s very relaxed and her words just flow beautifully. It doesn’t take me long at all to become fully absorbed into her stories. I adored the characters in this story. I loved them together but I also loved them separately, especially Drew. I really felt for him and the author wrote about him in such a way that I could actually feel how he felt towards Hockey, it really felt like he had come to hate the thing he has always loved. Marina had her own heartbreak and again the author did a great job with her character development. The raw emotion that came from both of these characters had me hooked. I could feel everything they did and their story just jumped off the pages. The moment that these two characters met I just knew it was going to be special – I could just feel it. I absolutely loved everything about this story and it is definitely in my top 10 for 2018!
Shot on goal
I had never actually read any of the other books in the series even though this is an 11. It can easily be classed as a stand-alone.
This really pulled at my heart strings. Drew is a hockey player that doesn’t want to play hockey.
Marina Sanders was the darling of the winter games, winning a bronze in figure skating one week after losing both parents in a car accident. Four years later, she was the most hated woman in America. After making a dreadful mistake and ruining her chances and the chance of another Olympic hopeful. Much to the disappointment of her coach ( Drew’s mum).
After 4 years of teaching skating in Europe she returns to the USA to help coach the sockeyes. She is asked to coach drew to help him regain his mojo as his future with the team is in question. As well as this they are having to work on a couple figure skating routine.
The way the author has written the characters is fabulous and makes you truly route for them.
I went through a heap of emotions when reading this.
Can they help each other to be happy again?
Also I am having to read all the others now to catch up.
