This book has helped me immensely while in the budding/building stages of my voice acting career. This book includes first hand stories from professionals, whose voices you've definitely heard before, giving invaluable advice about how to start doing voice acting, recording a demo, marketing, networking, and more. Definitely worth buying for anyone interested in voice acting.
One of THE BEST books about the voiceover world. The first edition was the first book on the topic I ever read, and it was my guidling light to success. Yuri and Tara are absolute gems. If you are a voice actor or wish to become one, this book NEEDS to be on your shelf!
The thought of podcasting and/or narrating books has run through my mind a few times, um, a day, for quite a while. I've done research and have played with ideas for a while. This book was fun and informative about it all. And the voice-over industry I hadn't thought of.
The narrating tag team authors, Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt kept the information hopping and interesting. If one can read cartoons, that's what it felt like at times as the team has a population of voices between them.
Now, if only I can conquer the stagefright that silences me with distractions and anti-schedules to keep it organized.
I think this is a lot more that can be gleaned from the wisdom these two grant us in this book. And though I have the audiobook, I feel I need the paper copy to visualize much of the information.
If one doesn't live in Los Angeles the book is not as relevant. It is a revised book from 11 years ago but seems very little to capture the VO business in 2019. Lots of good information, though. Home studio work is less than 2% of the content.
Audiobook was terrific for listening and then I bought the paperback as a reference guide for constant referral!! Lots of solid info that I’ve also heard from multiple sources, so I can trust it will be beneficial!! Highly recommend.
This book is full of useful information for voice actors just starting out. The Vocal Warm-ups section was my favorite. My warm-up routine is basically identical to the one found in the book now.
