It is written so very well. Things seem all mixed up but then Troy finds a way to straighten out the clues. But can he do it in time to find the girl? You will have to read the book to find out. It's not often I find much humor in sadistic murder stories, but this author is witty and knows how to entertain his readers. Troy Bodean is trying to have a quiet life working at a fish market and doing a bit of fishing himself. But it's not long before he raises a lobster trap tied to his boat and sees two human heads inside. And there's much more to happen when his girlfriend's daughter goes missing. This is totally captivating and fast paced to engulf you to the end. Highly recommend.
THIS HAS TWO TITLES IT'S ALSO CALLED "SKULL ISLAND" WHICH CAME IN ON MY KINDLE. INTERESTING. I WAS AT 29% AND I STILL HATED THE MAIN CHARACTER, YOU CAN'T CALL HIM A BUM BECAUSE HE HAS A JOB. I'D SAY HE AND HIS BUDDIES ARE ALCOHOLICS, HE DRINKS ALL DAY AND HE IS A FUNCTIONAL ALCOHOLIC. I DID ENJOY THE BOOK AND I LOVED HIS MUSIC PLAYLIST I JUST HATED HIM HE WAS SO UNLIKABLE. YUCK! ;D
The 'skulls' of the title are those Troy Bodean finds in his lobster pots, in David Berens' Skull Wave in his Troy Bodean Adventure series, when he wakes hungover and fuzzy-headed.They're also the heads of two of the crab shack waitresses that he worked with,(loading and delivering etc the fresh sea food caught daily) and with whom he spent the previous night getting wasted and crashing out at the local bar near the docks. After vomiting everywhere, Troy notifies the cops and gets taken in as the main suspect as a result.Of course he didn't do it, but it takes a while before police come up with cctv evidence and corroboration from the bartender, he's in the clear. However things go from bad to worse, quicker than you can say 'no more lobster thermidor for me' and our hero's soon called to the rescue of a woman,Meira, whose teen-aged daughter Riley, an online fantasy-world game fanatic aged 13, who's drawn into making a series of bad decisions and ends up kidnapped by the 'boy' she met in the game and sneaked out to meet, with almost fatal consequences. Can Troy save her - and her frantic Mom - from a horrible fate?See how Troy Bodean saves the day and (almost) gets the girl, by getting your copy of Skull Wave, A Troy Bodean Adventure by David Berens - you'll love it!
Sorry, Mr. Berens, But I'm Done With The Bodean Boys
This is the second book from this author featuring the Bodean Boys that I've read in the past several days. It seems like both think with their little heads and like drinking copious amounts of Corona beer. They are supposed to be true gentlemen but behave like frat boys. I like to read thrillers and maybe it's just me, but about every page I read with "action" I think, duh, what stupid thing are they going to do next. Troy's answer (as well as RB's) is drink a beer. "Oh, my head aches from drinking. I know, let's go get some beers!" No thriller here.
The main character in this book has had a tough life, and doesn’t ‘t see himself as a victim. PTSD episodes are rare for him, but triggered by severe thunder storms and too much alcohol. He seems to have found the perfect woman for him, but a psychopath is cutting off girls heads while his crazy father covers for him. Several zany characters and events give some comic relief, but the tragedy of it all is too much for Troy. You should definitely read this book. Suspense, action, tragedy, a bit of everything.
Reliable Troy from a reliable author. Always fun to get caught up with him during his lively passage through life. And we learn more about him every time. Two decapitated young ladies starts the ball rolling especially when the heads are found in Troy's lobster pots! He gets romantically involved with a PI then her daughter goes missing. Along with crusty sailors and protesting nudists the story gets romping along.
Unfortunately this author has reached the stage in this series where the stories are becoming too farfetched and unenjoyable. Cannabalism, bizarre fight scenes, a totally unbelievable survival for a prelude to a sequel spelled the end of my connection to the series. Too bad as it had captured my interest to this point.
okay, that was a mystery in itself ...wild times!! so this is a book that was FREE and found out about it thanks to Bookbub ...but it is not named correctly here or it has had a name change?? "Skull Island" weird. any who ... great read. had me curious. book 5. i do wanna read more from this series. will do so soon. enjoyable read. had me curious.
Be prepared for horrific murders, bloody body parts and some really awful people. But it is all tempered with a bit of humor. It isn't a mystery because you know very early on who the murderer is, but it still keeps you reading to see who lives and who dies. A nasty book that you will want to read if you can stand the gore.
Parts of this book I enjoyed. Parts I did not enjoy at all! If you enjoy gruesome stories, you might like this. I thought it would be a thrilling adventure. But no, it was a story of people (the hero included) doing stupid things. My gosh! I can't believe how the author portrayed so many characters. I've read his books before, and never felt so disappointed in the story. Live and learn.
A good novel, imo, needs to be "believable". This was not! Human flesh being "served" as fish; people beheaded with a knife as if it were cutting through butter; nude protestors on a boat at sea - who did they expect to influence? Add far too much unnecessary blasphemous content, and two stars is actually quite generous!
I liked this book. First time reading this author and I think it’s not going to be the last time. Troy Bodean is a vet with PTSD who goes around the East Coast. Seems trouble is always finding him. So now, he’s got murders to solve. It is a different sort of thriller and highly entertaining!
Wow. This was a roller coaster ride. Excellent plot and captivating characters. Wish it was happily ever after but with such a dark bad guy I guess that would be unrealistic. I still loved it.
As a writer David just keeps getting better and better. The suspense is good and even figgering out who done it did not lessen the surprise ending. I highly recomend this book. Congrats David, you have Arrived! w. Perce Paxton
Troy Bodean gets neck deep in a double homicide as the prime suspect and then as he attempts to determine who killed his coworkers. As the story progresses Troy becomes involved with a mother and her daughter who figure into solving the murders. This is one of the best of the Troy Bodean stories.
I enjoyed meeting the characters in this book and following them along in the mystery that took place. Some of the action that took place on the boats seemed to be a little unrealistic and hard to follow. I may read more from this author in the future.
Every book is almost like a different personality wrote it. That is takes talent! Every book keeps you wondering and rethinking . so far have really enjoyed all of them!
Great tale of Troy Bodean's adventures at sea and on land with a couple of female encounters thrown in. Bit of a sad ending for one of them and a cliff hanger to think about at the very end. Moral is don't let your kids get into computer games and watch out for sharks.
Once again Troy is up to ears in murder. Another beautiful lady to rescue. This the 3rd book in the series. I gave it a 3 because there were a few things that were left up in the air but you should definitely check it out
This is a very good book, but not the humorous story as described. The characters and waterfront setting is engaging and kept me reading. So many twists and turns in this one! I have read other Troy Bodean books and they never disappoint!
Poor old Troy. No matter where he goes, trouble seems to follow. Usually involving a gruesome murder or two. Plenty of action and suspense, a little hilarity and a hint of romance. A really worthwhile read.
