Caitlyn Hennessy prides herself on being an independent modern woman, but she still needs a job to pay the rent. When she loses hers and can’t find another, she discovers she only has three choices: Take a job at a company she detests, find a husband, or become a nun, as her mother hopes. Which really leaves her with only one choice — to pay a visit to Miss Hazel Hughes, Mountie Matchmaker Extraordinaire.
Life would be complete once Curtis Lange took a wife, he just knew it. When a fellow Mountie suggests finding brides through an old lady from Ottawa, Curtis signs up immediately. Finally he would have someone to cook and clean for him, just like his mother!
When Caitlyn learns her new groom only wants a glorified maid, her Irish temper flares and sparks fly. She has her own interests in life, such as art, gardening and trying to convince Curtis to become a vegetarian, like her. But Curtis wants none of it and believes his wife should want nothing more than to take care of him.
Maybe Miss Hazel got this match wrong.
Mail Order Mounties is a multi-author series set in Canada during the early 1900s. Join authors Kirsten Osbourne, Kay P. Dawson, Cassie Hayes and Amelia Adams as they bring you stories of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police and the mail-order brides who love them.
Cassie Hayes grew up pretending she was Laura Ingalls (before that pesky Almonzo arrived on the scene) in the middle of Oregon farm country. She lives with her husband and cat on the Pacific Ocean and loves to hear from her readers.
Review copy kindly provided by the author in exchange for a honest review The Hennessy family are back and another daughter has a similar dilemma. After her older two sisters found love with their own Mounties thanks to Miss Hazel. Caitlin has joined the ranks after been convinced it is the right thing for her future. Coming from Irish stock, Caitlin was sure going to be a spitfire. However this Hennessy daughter dances to a different tune. She made a life for herself away from the family and when she agrees to marry Curtis. She is an independent woman and a vegan . An interesting mix given that her husband is a man of the law who expects his wife to be all that he dreams . She had grand illusions. Curtis had grand illusion. It was going to be rocky to say the least. The contrasts between them was painfully obvious . Curtis was expecting a wife who would do his bidding and the image of his mother. It was obvious that Caitlin thought she would rule the roost and make her husband a vegan. They will work together to do the chores. Obviously this is far from how a marriage should work . Hayes had an interesting dilemma with these two and like any other story they had their highs and lows. These two may have taken longer than expected to come to the hard cold truth but it was sweet fun watching them figure this out. It was all about the compromise and whilst both of them did in the end. It was intriguing to see Cailtin willing to adopt the same family practices she was trying to get away from in the first place prior to this story. It goes to show that what you might hate become very useful.
Caitlyn is very independent but when she looses her job she only has a few choices become a nun or marry a mountie like her sisters before her.
Curtis really wants a wife to cook and clean for him. He doesn't expect much more. A maid is about sums it up. When he finds out she is a vegetarian he really doesn't know what to think as he loves meat too much.
The Irish temper comes out when Caitlyn has to stand up to Curtis and when she does he really sees her in a new light.
Loved this story as we see not all mom's and wives are the same and love can still conquer all. The characters were great and the plot just as good.
I enjoyed this book! I have enjoyed all of the Mail order Brides for the Mounties series! Caitlyn has lost her job and her mother has always wanted a daughter yo enter the convent, but Caitlyn doesnt want any part of that. After losing her job she decides to marry a Mountie like 2 of her sisters did. Curtis is the Mountie she is hooked up with, he is looking forward to having a wife who will cook and clean and do his laundry. Caitlyn is a vegetarian but Curtis loves his meat, can the two work out their differences in food? Can Caitlyn handle cooking meat? Can she save Bob the beaver? You will have to read the book to find out if it all works out! I highly recommend this book!
Curtis is very set in his ideas of what a wife should be. He based them on his ideal image of his Mother. He thinks that the wife must take care of everything herself and that she loves doing it. Caitlyn comes from a very large family of 15 children and is the 3rd eldest girl. She bases her idea of marriage and family of her belief that it is a give and take kind of thing the way her parents did things. Plus the children taking care of the younger ones and having chores to do each day to make things run smoother.
These two butt heads immediately upon returning to their home after the wedding ceremony. Mix into this the fact that Caitlyn is also vegetarian. Curtis just cannot understand this. There is much work to be done between these two before they can make it to their HEA. Will they be able to compromise and work it out? Cassie Hayes is a very good story teller and you will laugh your way through this new Mail Order Mountie book. Bob and Betty the Beaver's make their appearances too!
Bride for Curtis is a well-written and unique story. The story line is fresh and moves along at a steady pace while being engaging, interesting and attention grabbing. This story hooked me from the very start and I could not put it down. The characters are easy to connect with and well developed. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and like that the author doesn’t make the relationship easy.
Cassie Hayes knows how to create a story with enough romance and action to keep the reader entertained and fascinated. This is another brilliant book from a remarkably talented author. Cassie Hayes is one of my top go-to authors. She writes incredible stories that do not leave me disappointed. Even though this is part of a series, each book can be read as a stand-alone. I am anxiously waiting to read more in this series.
If you are looking for an outstanding romance then I recommend any book from Cassie Hayes. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a heartwarming and sweet romance with the happy-ending we come to expect.
What happens when you match two stubborn people? First a lot of butting heads and a few fusses then they start to look and listen.
Curtis has his heart set on his bride being a housewife and doing all the household duties. He thought she would love taking care of him.
Caitlyn decided to be a mail order bride because she had no other options. She is also following in her older sisters' footsteps. She wants to continue to be independent but also have love and start a family.
These two had a lot to learn and it was fun seeing it happen. Bob, Betty and the kits add a little action to the story.
I have enjoyed this series for the most part. The preface to each book warns that there is no historical basis for the concept of Mounties marrying mail-order brides. And the authors also note that it was rare for more than one Mounty to be posted in the same place. Despite these discrepancies one can enjoy the stories. I did have a hard time with the idea of a “vegetarian” bride given the culture and era being depicted. Seemed more like a modern day agenda the author wanted to push. I don’t want to be preached to. Let’s try to stick with the era. A very good but heartbreaking story of life as a Mounty wife is the classic Mrs. Mike
I loved this heartwarming story! Caitlyn is independent woman. She has a job, & was able to move out. That is, till her job ended. Her parents gave Caitlyn three choices. Moving home was not an option. Her decided to talk to Miss Hazel. Mountie Curtis is ready to get married & have a family. He wants someone like his mother. Someone to take care of him. But, Curtis hasn't met Caitlyn yet. Being the maid isn't the type of wife she wants to be. I really enjoyed reading this book! A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!!
Caitlyn is another of the Hennessey girls. She doesn't want to be a Nun either and there are still fourteen at home, so when she loses her job Caitlynn doesn't have the option of moving home. Only option is knocking on Miss Hazels door and marrying a Mountie. Curtis, he thinks a wife will be just like his Ma. In the two years he has never done laundry. Never swept the cabin or mopped. Curtis carried Caitlynn across the threshold of the cabin after the marriage ceremony. Then she opened her eyes.... Enjoyable story.
Loved it, I can't wait to read the next book and find out what happens to Bob and Betty's family. Caitlyn and Curtis show how a good marriage requires compromises and open to change. I enjoy this book very much and definitely recommend you to buy or read through KU. Only downside is that I have to wait two more weeks before the new book comes out.
Another sweet book by Cassie Hayes. This is a fun, easy read for a relaxing evening. Curtis is a Mountie looking for someone to replace his mother in his life and thinks a bride will do it. Caitlyn is an independent-minded redhead who is looking for a Mountie husband, like her sisters found, and pairs up with Curtis. The sparks fly and create a wonderful story of learning about compromise and love.
two more people who had nothing in common, it is these two. The miscommunication and stubborn wills presents and interesting tale. Crisp and witty dialogue between the two and supporting characters is entertaining. This series continues to be one of my favorites. Mrs. Hayes keeps it fresh and keeps readers waiting for the next installment.
This story had a twist. A vegetarian wife to a mounty. Boy that will take some compromise. These stories are unique as each town has a different animal. If you have not read this series you should. Every one needs a good laugh and Ms Hazel is your gal. Enjoy
An enjoyable opposites work things out story. I like country style stories with spunk. This one is pretty good. Amazing that her food preferences weren't mentioned when pairing her up with her intended. So true, about having to learn to adjust and grow up when first married. A fun read.
This is a great story full of love and kisses to also bring a new lite on beavers. The series is great and the Author's give you the idea you are there as a fly on the wall. Thank you very much for writing this series and I recommend this and all this series to all my family and friends. Please keep writing...
This was exciting book they were two stubborn people but they learned to get along and love each other. He was even willing to give up meat but if he wanted meat she was willing to cook it for him. How wonderful this book was.
A determined young woman discovering that marriage requires compromise which is difficult when both partners have distinctly different expectations. Communicating and patience with some threads of humor make a fun story.
I really over this book.Bob and Betty are such a good and the cause of so much chaos for everyone.Curtis is expecting a bride just like his mother. What he gets in the other hand is far differ ent.
Sweet and funny. Strong willed modern woman marries the Mountie and his life will never be the same. Married life is not what Curtis expected, and he may need to make a few adjustments in his thinking in order to survive.
I could relate to Curtis better than Cait, you see, Curtis is just like my husband. Glad Caitlyn got through to him, & they're gonna make it!!!!!! Love all Cassie's books. She's a great story teller!!!!!!
Loved the book and the characters of Curtis and Caitlyn. Seeing them discover what a marriage is made for an interesting read. I look forward to more books in the series.
This is an interesting story in that the heroine is a vegetarian and the hero, like most men, loves meat. Each has different expectations about adulthood and about married life. Bob the weaver's wife gets the name of Betty. This is a good series.
This was such a fun book. Caitlyn is one feisty woman, and I love it! Curtis has a lot of learn, but so does Caitlyn, and together they can accomplish anything,
Poor Curtis is sadly mistaken about women. I love his Mom's letter to clarify her life dreams. Curtis and Caitlyn both have a lot to learn about marriage.♥️
I'm going to admit that I'm sappy for these Mail Order Mounties stories, the characters are all a fun loving group! The women who create them do a wonderful job.
