"For over twenty years, I've been lied to--magic burns within my veins, and I'm unable to resist its call." Mirella wants to be a normal college student ... but she's far from normal. Since she was born, her mother has been hiding the truth. Mirella is a descendent of a powerful bloodline that spans centuries, a bloodline that gives her an uncontrollable sixth sense.
Masked men desire her blood. Strangers long for her to join their cause, and a gorgeous man with magic of his own seeks to forge a forbidden bond between them.
For Mirella, there is no escape. Bodies surface, and killers run rampant as her people are hunted and slaughtered. Mirella is the only one who can save them. Trapped in a life she doesn't want, Mirella must find the strength to summon the power inside of her--or risk the extinction of her kind.
An exciting and heart stopping urban fantasy novel, Heart Seeker is the first book in the brand-new series, The Fire Heart Chronicles. With plenty of romance, intrigue, and mystery, readers will love this supernatural new adult tale featuring a strong heroine that's equal parts dark and magical.

While Juliana Haygert dreams of being Wonder Woman, Buffy, or a blood elf shadow priest, she settles for the less exciting—but equally gratifying—life of a wife, mother, and author. She resides in North Carolina and spends her days writing about kick-ass heroines and the heroes who drive them crazy.

This is a 3.5 read for me. I liked it, I found it interesting and at the end I was intrigued to know more.
The story was slow building and I found both the lead character and her mother aggregating and poor at making good decisions causing vacillating internal turmoil within the characters (if you know me, that is one of my pet peeves).
For originality, the concept was new and delightfully fresh, containing a unique twist to a human powers that I’ve never seen before in my reading material,
I received this copy of Heart Seeker from Juliana Haygert. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Heart Seeker was my first read by Juliana Haygert and it won't be my last as I found this book to actually be surprisingly enjoyable!
The characters were fun and the world building was good, the potential for this series is fantastic if it carries on in this vein with the myths and legends behind these mysterious and magical 'tzigane' and their Romani roots.
A lot of fun and well worth the read for some light and simple enjoyment that doesn't tax your brain but still get you excited to read more!
I slept on it before doing this review. I didnt hate it so there's that. I didnt necessarily like it either. It really had good potential and good world building. Thats about it though. I didnt care for Mirella. She's 20 years old and has been living on her own for over a year. She keeps to herself trusts nobody and let's nobody in. Some of that is for good reason. She's a mature 20 year old and taking care of herself but seems bratty a lot of the time I read about her. She takes nothing anyone says seriously but she's smart enough to listen to her spidey senses at times. She was back and forth a lot. She knew the seriousness of her situation but she just refused to accept some things. Her Mother is to blame for pretty much everything. I liked her even less than Mirella. That woman made NO sense. I dont understand why she kept so much from her. It made no sense. It wasnt necessarily to protect her because thats what I thought at first. Nope. I dont understand her. She totally lied to her about a lot! Even suppressed her powers by making her wear a "protection" charm all her life. She's just not very trustworthy in my opinion. I understand people have reasons for things but at this point nobody knows why. She always looked ashamed of something in the book. Always looking at the ground. It just made no sense in the grand scheme of things. The men Mirella comes into contact with. She doesnt give much of herself but you know she feels strongly toward them all. Theron and Artan both from different enclaves and they both seem to LIKE her but I feel they are playing some sort of game with her. Lets not even talk about Phillip other than I saw THAT coming. Eh. I dont think I'll continue this series because so much bothers me about it.
first time listening to an audiobook and I agree with the booktubers; listening at anything less than 2x speed is torture.
Not impressed by the book itself. Also hated the accents in the narration, sorry. They felt exaggerated. Wish they could have been done by someone who actually had an accent like that.
It read more like teen fiction. It's just another story where the female lead falls for every guy she meets, she is supposed to be powerful but can't use her powers right and needs her big protectors to save her. Heck even the child in the story shows more will to survive. Also her mother not sharing anything makes literally no sense. She is clearly in more danger knowing nothing and yet her mother still refuses to speak at all. I think the author wrote that aspect of the mother horribly. It was a basic story with a fairly weak MC.
I received a free copy of this book directly from the author Ms. Juliana Haygert. Thank you Juliana, this is my review.
Such an easy 5 out of 5 star rating for this incredible novel! I absolutely loved this novel. This magical world that was created just pulls you in. I love Mirella, I think she is definitely a stubborn and strong-willed character.
I think I know the mystery of her father, but I will keep that under wraps for now. I really enjoyed the full on betrayal throughout this entire novel.
The men are swoon-worhty. Artan I think is perfect for Mirella. I love her friendship with Theron. I like that Artan and Theron are building a relationship. I feel like they have a bro-mance that is about to happen. I really enjoy Theron's sense of humor.
I'm super intrigued by Felix, and how he is going to play into the second novel. I am addicted to this series already.
I read this novel in one sitting because it was detailed and consuming. I can't wait to read book 2...I think this story is just going to keep getting progressively better and that is saying a lot when the first novel is fantastic!
This was incredible!! I enjoyed this story so much. Mirella was such a fierce and strong character. I loved that she teaches dance too. The Romani aspect of this was really interesting. I don't know a lot about their traditions so whether this is accurate rep is out of my ability to judge, but it felt realistic to me. I loved the magic and getting to see more of it, some of the plot points were a bit predictable but I still really enjoyed this story.
[26/77] ⤷ this is book 26 of 77 books i have downloaded for free on amazon kindle, so it may be time to finally go through them all. oh god, wish me luck.
i can't read this. there's so much exposition that i do not care for, and the characters are already so superficial. not wasting my time at the end of the year to force myself to read something i'm not interested in. DNF.
2 stars because i don't want to give a book a 1 star if it isn't in any way justified.
overall I liked and enjoyed this book. I think the magic, the culture and the newness of the story felt really great and it kept me interested and reading and wanting to find out more.
Characters:
I think the characters were pretty well done, I felt their uniqueness, and was interested in finding out more about them specially Theron and Artan I liked them both and want more details on them. At the same time the lying was driving me batshit cray. Anytime information is withheld from me or a character pov I'm reading I get annoyed. That's just my personal preference for books. So wasn't a huge fan of that, I think it annoyed me more because the main character said/seemed she was annoyed but then just moved on like nothing was wrong.
World Building
I think the world building could use a bit more details, I wasn't sure at first if it was based in a modern type world and I had trouble visualizing their encalves that were hidden? but then also the regular world. The further in I got it was more okay but I'd still like a bit more details. Wasn't really into all the males being these warriors and the females all delicate. And having pre arranged marriages, there was some exceptions to those rules but for the most part that is what their society is. When I read a fantasy book and you have these crazy things happening and creatures and magic but then there are these patriarchy type rules in palace still it kinda turns me off of the book.
I feel like I kinda picked on this book, and while there were some points that put me off. I still did like the story and would be interested in seeing how the next one starts off.
I would recommend this book, I think if the blurb catches your interest I'd say give it a chance. I have found some of my favourite series that way.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review
This was an ok read. It could have been a lot better if only our protagonist didn’t behave like an idiot for the express purpose of moving the plot forward.
Having characters make very obvious and foreseeable mistakes or forget about important things from one moment to the next without reason and logic makes the flow of the story seem unnatural and forced. For me the MC’s and MC mother’s actions in this book lack continuity and logic.
I don’t think I will continue with this series unless I see somewhere that all the idiocy in this book has an explanation in later books.
I loved this book including all the main characters. I was stumped about what could be special about Mirella until the end. And, I can't decide who I like more out of Artan and Theron. I think there may be a secret about Theron though. There was great world building in this book as well. The way the author describes things, it's like you're really there. And, it's fast paced. You definitely won't be bored or able to put it down. I can't wait to see what happens with Mirella in her new role and what becomes of all the others.
I read ARCs of this author's Rite of the Vampire Saga and really enjoyed that series, so I couldn't wait to read more from her! She then contacted me about reading an ARC of this series and I of course said yes! I love the cover a lot and the synopsis is very intriguing! I started reading my ARC as soon as I received it, and after reading, I can say that I really enjoyed this book! The plot was also different and a very unique concept! This made me love it even more because I haven't read anything like it before! There was also a bit of action in the plot and this added a lot! I really hope there's more action and suspense as this series continues! There was also the glimmer of romance in this book, but there were quite a few potential love interest for the main character lol! Again, I can see the romance developing more as this series progresses! Well, I really hope it does lol! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Mirella was the main character, and in this book she learned a lot more about her life and about what she could do! I did feel sorry for her because she went through a lot in a short space of time, but Mirella tried her best to come to terms with everything and continue with her everyday activities including dance classes and college classes! This made me respect her! I also connected with Mirella all the way through this book too! There was a bit of a love triangle in this book! Well, I say triangle, but it was actually more of a square lol! I can definitely see this square developing more as this series progresses! Theron and Artan were the sort of love interests of Mirella! Both these guys were on the same side in this book, but belonged to different enclaves! I have to say that I loved both guys! They were protective of Mirella and were the ones that could help her with what she was going through! Phillip was another love interest of Mirella, but he was human, so didn't know about Mirella's secret! I felt like he was hiding something big though! This book was only written from Mirella's point of view, which surprised me slightly! I wasn't sure how many point of views it was going to be written from after I read the synopsis, but I was hoping that it was going to be maybe two, but it wasn't! I can maybe see this series being written from a few different point of views as it progresses though! I did enjoy reading this book through Mirella's eyes though! It helped me connect and understand her more and I was still able to connect with the other characters too! I now can't wait to read the next book in this series! I know that it releases in August, which isn't too long of a wait, so I'm excited to read it once it releases and can't wait to continue Mirella's story! The cover for this book is also stunning! I love it a lot and it definitely made me want to read the story behind it! The cover model also definitely suits the character of Mirella! Big thank you to Juliana for an ARC of Heart Seeker!
Mirella, a young woman descended from magic, has lived her life always moving from one place to another. Her mother has never told her the truth about her past, why they are always moving, or why she plants the strange golden plants wherever they live. Her mother has secrets, and soon they are going to catch up to them both. Heart Seeker by Juliana Haygert is book one in her The Fire Heart Chronicles. This book begins a series that follows a young woman as she learns the secrets of her past and the uniqueness of who she really is. I like Mirella’s character overall. She’s a unique character. Despite all the moving about she still craves to be a part of. She keeps people at a distance, but then she still reaches out. I appreciate that she is considerate of the other characters as much as she can be. When someone takes something of hers she doesn’t just let it go. She goes after to them in an attempt to protect them. This story is layered with secrets and dark shadows. I enjoy this, but at times, it feels like the story slows down a bit too much. I have to admit that I didn’t like the shift in how Mirella begins to identify one of the characters. I didn’t like her identifying Darcy as “old hag.” I felt that it was a bit out of character for Mirella as she comes off so much as sweet, kind and gentle. I am happy to say that this book appears to be thoroughly edited and that I didn’t detect any noticeable editorial errors. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. This story has some romance, a lot of twists, plenty of secrets, and danger galore. If you are a fan of Juliana Haygert I recommend you pick this book up and start reading. This is definitely an interesting paranormal novel.
This is the first book of this series. And honestly I enjoyed reading it! I found the main character Mirella to be very strong despite everything that she has been through. There is definitely a lot of action and shocking surprises and romance! I loved every moment of it. The rest of the characters are very interesting especially the main guys such as Artan & Theron... *swoon* I don’t know who is better haha. But let me just say I was super shocked at how her love interest turned out to be... I totally did not see that coming... even though apart of me was spot on about Annie! I won’t post spoilers because it’s always best to read for yourself. It’s so good! There’s lots of magic. Once I started reading I kept getting more and more intrigued. This world of Romani is so cool! Especially the Tziganes, they are so awesome! I can’t wait to see what happens next in Mirella‘s story! Author Juliana Haygert writes such amazing stories! I am definitely a fan for sure.
Overall the storyline was interesting, but the execution was problematic. We have a 21 year old girl who has been kept in the dark her whole life to her true "magical" nature for no explainable reason. (Her mom knows, but keeps the knowledge to herself ... Cue lack of communication trope) This leads to her feeling betrayed by the only person she's ever been allowed to trust, her mother. Due to this she behaves like an immature teenager and comes across dumber than rocks on multiple occasions! She's supposedly strong, but for most of the book can't seem to access any of her magic.
What I found problematic: 1. Lack of communication trope 2. Some of the relationships were definitely forced and felt disingenuous (there are slight explanations for this) 3. Too many TSTL moments! 4. Plot holes 5. Mind control trope 6. Some of the dialogue was uber cringe. I found myself uttering aloud about how dumb the book was on a couple of occasions. If I could describe the writing in one word, I would say juvenile.
What I like: 1. Despite the flaws in the writing, I'm intrigued to see what happens next 2. I'm a sucker for hidden destiny 3. The magic romany world she created felt unique (imo) 4. She bonded to a magical animal no one else could get near ... I freaking love this as a story element.
Heart Seeker by Juliana Haygert a five-star read that will find you and take you on a wild ride. This is the first book in the Fire Heart Chronicles and what a start, you will feel for Mirella more than you will think possible, this story is just wow, the twists and turns are amazing. Strange things have always happened to Mirella but now she is standing on her own two feet will she find out what is truly happening? Would you be able to stan up for what you believe against people who think they have your best interests at heart, and who really can you trust? This was a great example of urban fantasy read and it has so much heart you can feel it bursting from the pages. There is romance and drama and twists to keep you hooked and each page seems better than the last, number two can’t come quick enough!! I need to see where Mirella’s heart will lead.
This story is a fantastic start to a series and probably my favorite by this author so far. While I usually enjoy her characters and stories this one just took the experience to another level. Mirella is an average girl with a mother she thinks is nuts, or is she? When strange things start happening around her and more and more new people pop into her orbit we begin to see a massive picture come into view. With this being only book 1 in the series, I can only imagine where the rest will take me. The 3 leading men in Mirella's life are all hot and sexy in their own right but they all hold secrets. Who is the better man for real? I can't wait to get more of this series.
Guys, I just learned the new version of HEART SEEKER is missing an entire chapter (chapter 4 is actually chapter 5 again 🤦♀️ ) . This is for new downloads, made from March until now. I just fixed the file and I'm now uploading the correct version to all vendors. But you might not be able to update your version through the vendors, so here's a link to download the newest and correct version of HEART SEEKER!
Wow! I am breathless, overwhelmed and intrigued by this new series by Juliana! It's powerful, creative & mind bending and definitely something different and magically fun! Mirella has spent the first 20 year's of her life thinking she's a normal person with a seriously crazy mother. But things aren't so black and white as they appear. And the more Mirella tries to find out from from Mom, the less she learns from her and finds more truths in stranger's
New-to-me author and oh my dayummm, but where, oh where have you been hiding Ms. Haygert? :p
In all seriousness, Ms. Haygert is a talented writer who works her magic with this exceptionally delightful read. With an interesting and unique storyline, well-defined world and engaging characters you can't go wrong. A highly recommended read.
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
What a wonderful book. I so enjoyed reading this and so sad when I got to the end . It was such a magical journey of discovery with such solid characters that you couldn’t fail to fall in love with the story. Lost of twists and turns to keep the reader hooked. I was most definitely hooked. I thoroughly recommend this book to one and all.
Grabs you right from the start! Juliana (author) has a way of giving you history of the characters without making it boring/long winded.
Mirella was lied to all of her life about her ancestors. She slowly is learning in a heart breaking turn of events. There are so many amazing characters in the book. From the sweet Annie, entertaining Ellie, eye catching Theron, and the mysterious Artan. Which I am hoping book 2 really pulls Artan to the fore front!!!
