Victoria Rhyan lost everything during the Earthquakes that tore through Silverpines, including her husband, the town’s mayor. The resultant fear and loneliness has left her in a fragile state, unable to leave her home. To make matters worse, her husband’s solicitor arrives in Silverpines to inform Victoria that The Mayor had been embezzling from town’s tax money, and that all of the evidence points to her as the recipient of those stolen funds. Desperate, Victoria sends out a plea for a mail-order-groom, begging for any man with experience at law to come to her aid.
Terrified of the man he has become.
Luther Garrison is a man on the run. Running from the law, and from his cousin— the notorious outlaw— Mace Thorne. Shot in the back while trying to escape Mace and his gang, Luther awakens to find himself at the mercy of Victoria Ryhan. She is everything he isn’t. Prim, proper and startlingly attractive, Luther is utterly captivated by her in an instant. But Mace is still hunting him, and it’s only a matter of time before he finds Luther again.
Can Victoria accept help from the lawyer turned outlaw for her own legal troubles? Will Mace catch up to Luther and destroy both Victoria and himself? Who stole the funds and set Victoria up to take the fall?
Can love win out over their fear, or is it too late for the woman who took in the Wanted Lawyer?

I knew when I started to read this story it would be good. Why? It is by Josephine Blake! But I had no Idea how much it would just warm my heart. This is why I love western historical romances and it reminds me to read more! The story starts with the hero, Luther Garrison with his outlaw cousin Mace Thorn’s gang and Mace commits a terrible crime. He wants out and starts to ride off when his cousin shoots him. Oh yeah, you are thrown right into the story. Luther makes his way to Silver Pines and falls off his horse at Victoria’s house! A fated meeting I would say! She manages to get him inside and tends to him as best she can. I loved these two characters and finding out all about them. In typical Blake form, the setting and characters came alive and I just could not wait to find out what happened! There were a few detours to them finding their happy ending that will make you smile and hold your breath! I do not want to give any more away, but believe me you will absolutely love this story!!! Although part of a series by several authors this is definitely a stand alone book! 😉
This was another great addition to the Siverpines series. Victoria has not left her home since the earthquake. One rainy night she hears noises outside and finds a man on her doorstep, who had been shot. She takes the bullet out and to her surprise finds out he is a lawyer, but not the one she had written for. Can she find love in the man who won't share his life with her or will she fall in love with the lawyer she wrote for?
Victoria haven’t left her home after the tragic loss of het husband. Now her late husband and she was accused of embezzling Silverpines’ money so she needs a lawyer. Luther, the cousin of a criminal finds himself, after being wounded by his cousin, at Victoria’s doorstep. She helps him and when she discovers he’s a lawyer they discover what went wrong. But what will happen when her mail order lawyer arrives? Is there a way to build a life together without being afraid for revenge by his cousin? I’ve read all the books in this series and this is one of my favorite. Lovey characters who aren’t perfect but try to be and do their best. Can’t wait for more books in this series.
This is the 8th story in the Silverpines series. It is closely related to the previous story about Elena and Tobias as Elena is best friends with Victoria. And we met Luther when he and Tobias ran into each other repeatedly. Previously we have been curious about Victoria as she is afraid to leave her house. We've also been curious about Luther as the last time he was seen he was heading to take care of bad guy Mace Thorne. Victoria also takes care of Kijab an orphaned child while Hattie works. This was from book 5, Wanted: Medicine Man. I like series books when they include characters from previous stories and this book doesn't disappoint.
Luther's outlaw cousin, Made Thorne, paid for his education as a lawyer so he could help him dwindle people. When Made turned to hurting and then killing people, Luther had enough. Shot while running from Mace and his gain, Luther ends up at Victoria's home. When he realizes that Mace could be a threat to her he decides it's time to bring him in.
Victoria is alone and now the solicitor says she was in trouble because her husband was dishonest before he died. Luther is upset because his cousin has started murdering people. He can't be around him any more. Shot in the back by his own cousin trying to escape. Wait till you see how this turns out.
I loved this book. I honestly had to say I think it is the best one in the series so far. The characters jump off the page. You feel like you are there in the midst of all that is going on. You can feel the attraction between the two of them. This is a must-read in this collection.
Another fabulous installment in the Silverpines Series.Victoria has been stuck in her home since the disasters happened to the town of Silverpines. She is desperate for someone to help her fix the mess her husband left her and the town.Keep reading in the book to find out what else is happening in Silverpines.Couldn't put this down it was so great.
First time reading a book by Josephine Blake and I enjoyed it. Even though this book is #8 in a series, it stood on its own and I didn't feel I was missing anything. Nice storyline and characters. A nice story to read in between the longer novels I love to read. No sexual content other than kissing. JudyE
This story tied Tobias and Elena's book "Man of Honor" nicely and neatly into Luther and Victoria. Well played Ms. Blake. One caveat, though. The hymn that Victoria was singing in chapter 2, "In The Garden", was published in 1913. All books in this series stated that the disasters in Silverpines occurred in 1899. Now on to book #9!
The story of love and suspense in a small town in the wild Wild West. The characters all come to life when bad men and good men all try to do what they want all at the same time. The good news is that the people who have been there are all fine and they have no problem with their own actions. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
I enjoyed this book very much. The main characters were well rounded out. The author filled in the earlier parts of their lives without detracting from the story. The author also brought in characters from the other books of the series.
This book was a little confusing at first but after I figured it out and read on it all became clear. The main hero of the book is a very interesting character all in all I enjoyed itb
The over lapping of this book and the previous book, Man of Honor, is awesome! It gives you more insight as to the characters and the storylines in both books. The depth of the characters was great. The story was fantastic. I am anxiously awaiting the next in the series.
An ok read not much action to keep you awake.interesting characters, slow developing plot. Gunslinger fast draw shooting in all directions and actually hitting the target?
I love this series of stories, Silverpines and absolutely adored this #8 in the series. It is a little unusual and has several exciting twists and turn leading to a very happy ending. I'm sure you will enjoy this book.
This is a story you will not put until you are done reading the whole storyline you will be sad it is done This town has been through so much that is really great how they are bring the new men to town.
More than ⅓ of this book was a word for word repeat of the last book. I realize both characters were after the same bad guy but seems like a little more effort could have been made not to repeat so much.
Me Blake as crafted an interesting and amusing tale that I found quite entertaining. I would suggest a bit of editing as there were some bad word choices and a few misspelled words plus grammar errors. All in all still readable.
These Silverpines books just seem to keep getting better and better! This book runs consecutively with the previous book so make sure to read them both! Luther goes from being a wanted criminal to a hero and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride!
Wonderful story and characters. Highly recommend this book and this series. Clean historical romance at its finest. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Adventures plus romance makes it a perfect book for me. Victoria and the town is swindles by her deceased husband’s lawyer but Luther comes to her rescue in more ways than one! - Babs
This is almost a companion book to Wanted: An Honorable Man! The two best friends meet men who's stories intertwine together because of the horrid Mace Thornton! I hope you enjoy this suspenseful romance as much as i did!
Book 8 of the series by Josephine Blake is an sweet romance with drama including outlaws and crooked lawyers. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Oh my goodness! Victoria and Luther were polar opposites in every way. But, oh so perfect for each other. I didn’t want this one to end! It would make an awesome movie 💞
