I believe Dr. Donahue is on to something with his book "Building Leadership Competence". As someone who has had several types of leadership throughout my working career, I can attest to the fact that the best leaders are the ones that know and have strived to improve themselves. The way they think is also something to be admired. I have friends that are supervisors and I am always saying that the way they think is something I do not feel I can emulate as my brain just does not think in that way. But after reading this book, I feel like I could learn to do what they do. I know I am good at training because I learn the material quickly and can teach it when necessary. I am competent in writing rules and procedures and it is through this that I learn. While I may not desire to become a leader at this time, this is a book I will go back to once I am ready. I recommend this book, especially if the reader wants to improve as an elder or see what it can take to become one.

One of the things that I liked the most about this book is that Dr. Donahue was very precise and concise in explaining the different competencies. Another thing that I liked is that there are worksheets where we can write, for example long-term actions, the concepts learned, etc.

Although I believe it is a bit long, I think that it is full of information which was carefully and clearly written so that everyone can enjoy it. Apart from that, every section is well developed and clearly explained. It is the first book I read written by Donahue, and I bet it will not be the last one. I completely recommend reading this book because I found iit to be really helpful and inspiring.
This is not a book this is a guiding light for those who are willing to understand their current proficiency level and want take it to next level and for those do not have knowledge about proficiency. Strongly recommend for leaders of all type so that they can take their ability to next level.
An excellent book, it is a practical exercise in leadership and combines theoretical and practical aspects. We need training workshops to apply the wonderful concepts in this book.
