I started reading The Art of Kindness when I was in full time work. It was a challenging time when kindness was hiding its light under a bushel - both personally, and reflected by the relationships I experiencing. I have returned to it, post-covid lockdown 6.0+++ for Victoria. I reread the opening section about self-care and identified I had embedded its principles and the underlined passages were part of me and no longer grabbed my attention. Powerful inspiration indeed. Gaston is a determined practitioner and I was less enamoured with the purist proclamations about a whole foods diet for example. Honestly, I recoiled at the look-to-see-how-you-can-help people as a daily practice. Offering help, seeking helpful kindness opportunities, can repel individuals because it presumes weakness on their part, it can impose on their autonomy, and the do gooder mentality / charitable interventions can be a bit holier than thou interference. But overall it's a beautiful book, with noble interventions.
A delightful and inspiring look at kindness. Kindness begins with self, extends to community, and embraces the world. Each of these are considered in this beautifully presented and easy to read book. Lots of quotes and pictures, and lots to reflect on. Light and easy to read, and 'good feels' at the end. I bought the hard copy to share with some of the amazing young women in my life.
I loved the format of this book with beautiful illustrations. You could read just a few pages and then there was a natural break. I read it in snippets over a couple weeks. I love the cover and will go back to the book again and again just to look at the images that make me smile.
Cute feel good read filled with nice ideas and beautiful illustrations. Love the feel of this book and would make an awesome gift for a friend. Lovely.
Beautifully written and having wonderful illustrations (I just want to hang them all on the walls ❤️), it gave me such a nice feeling every night when reading a few pages.
