Bears are born to protect. No one knows this better than bear shifter Lily Wood who has dedicated her life to the U. S. Marshal Service. But her life is turned upside down when she fails to protect a pregnant witness whose dying wish is for Lily to raise her newborn daughter Angel. Now Lily must come to terms with the haunting failure and adjust to life as a parent all while trying to woo her stubborn neighbor Alex. Tea shop owner Alex is hopelessly attracted to Lily, but that only makes her more determined to push the U. S. marshal away. A relationship could never work out between them, not while Lily is working in law enforcement and Alex is hiding her criminal past. But when Lily shows up in the tea shop with a newborn baby, begging for Alex’s help, Alex can’t refuse. And she can’t help getting close to Lily, despite the danger of Lily discovering her secret history. But there are more threats to their relationship than just the truth. When the man responsible for killing Angel’s mother returns, Lily will have to fight to protect her new family.
Paranormal Lesbian Shifter Romance Novella 26,100 words
I dont know why it took so long for me to review this. I'm pretty sure I read it in one sitting. I am not much for paranormal shapeshifting stories but ocassionally I a synopsis is intriguing enough to try. I liked the story but it moved at too fast a pace for me. Not the story itself but the characters. One second its avoid st risk then all of a sudden its wham bam thank you ma'am. Free with kU so no complaints here.
I did quite enjoy this little novella. It has great potential and I know it’s short so things have to go at a faster pace, but I could have used more deeper, slow down moments. I still recommend giving it a read. I love that Lily was a bear shifter and Alex’s past was a good reason as to why she tried to avoid starting a relationship with a Marshall. I will be reading the next two in the series.

Animal Awesomness! Lily is an US Marshall whose pregnant witness, Astoria, dies. Before she passes she begs Lily to raise her daughter. Alex owns a tea shop that Lily frequents because she is in love with the shop keeper. Alex has a secret that keeps her from agreeing to date the Marshall but the Marshall has a secret of her own. Angel really needs these two women to get their acts together so she can have two mommies! This is a short story that is super sweet and tender in spite of the violence that the plot is based on (it’s not overly graphic and it all is for the benefit of the story so in my opinion, it’s all good). I loved the strength that both of these incredible women have. They want what’s best for the other and the little girl they both love and adore. They are brave and selfless and so hooked on each other… I couldn’t find fault with any of the story and I am SO excited the author has a series built around this book. YAY for me, and most likely for you too!!!
Comparable to other PNR with similar settings and characters in independent publishing. No significant pattern of typos. The end of the book introduces the premise for a series, and the sneak peek looks promising.
I knew the bad guy immediately, but not the context. The Insta-love on the part of the shifter is part and parcel of the true mate trope, and it was applied consistently here. The "I'm not worthy" inner dialogue of Alex was annoying, but made sense with the character's history and it was resolved fully. They get their HEA.
I really liked the premise of the book when I read it, but I just couldn't get into the story. I felt from the beginning that I had missed something. It felt like I had started in the middle of the book or had missed an entire novel worth of set up. This made the overall novel very disorientating for me. While I did find concept interesting, that very jarring first part really made it difficult to title to recommend.
This was adorably romantic. Lilly and Alex had some interesting stalker prey relationship going on making me think Lily should have been a cat type shifter instead of a bear. Still they came together well and everything meshed well in the story. I do wish that there was more information about the bad guys though and the backstory of Angel's mom.
Lily is a Marshal and bear-shifter that wants Alex as her mate, but Alex, with her criminal background, want nothing to do with Lily's advances. Everything chances when the guy responsible for Angel mom's death resurfes again.
It was an interesting reading, short and good. Apparently it's a series so I'll be reading the rest of it.
I like the women in this intense short story. The force driving the shifter to mate was compelling and the care for the baby added the softness needed for the romance to develop. I felt it ended before the intrigue had time to fully resolve but I enjoyed the story.
Mama bear gets angry when her child is taken away.
Lily is a Federal Marshal who is suddenly responsible for a female child. Alex the local tea shop owner does not realize that Lily the bear has her eye on Alex with a criminal past. Delightful. Enjoy
I really enjoyed this book! I wish it was longer though. I’ve never been into paranormal books before but this one wasn’t like others. It was well written with a great storyline. I look forward to book two in this series.
Great characters that just weren’t flushed out enough. A quick read, that seemed put together from a storyboard and chopped out. I liked the story very much but felt cheated by the length.
This was an okay read... I couldn't get into it for a couple of reasons. It was a little annoying finding out Alex's reason to hold back from Lily but eh... to each their own, I guess. Lily's rather forceful though which is a tad off putting. No means no, you know?

I liked getting the rare f/f couple in urban fantasy; but didn't like Alex at all, and Lily was just a little too perfect, never getting frustrated or sad over Alex's treatment of her. The plot is very predictable, it was obvious immediately who would turn out to be.
Nice shape shifter tale with a little drama (and a large stash of tea). Another pass by an editor would have been helpful as there were a number of minor editorial issues -- primarily using the wrong character name in several places.
While this was a fun read it was way too short with few if any plot twists.it was fun but I'd have liked it sbot 100 pages longer with a longer plot and storyxx
This book has a decent story. I had trouble with putting it down and stayed up way to late reading it. But, there are many times my grammar and spelling OCD was kicked into high gear. It didn't pull me out of the zone to many times.
Okay plot, but the criminal elements were too simplistic to be credible. People who write about LEOs need to do some research to make the characters and the story believable.
A very enjoyable and endearing light read shifter romance. I truly enjoy the entire series so far. If you enjoy f/f shifter romance then add this series to your list.
Short and perfect, I really enjoy stories about super naturals and this shapeshifter, is no exception. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
As it is a short story I didn't mind the agonizing part. It still show the passage of time, not an instant love without bonding and getting to know each other, I enjoyed it.
