Go Go still doesn't let up with it's 3rd GREAT volume.

If you didn't know, there's two major Power Ranger series going on. Mighty Morphin, which is more like the old TV show, corny but super fun and epic scale. This is more down to earth, similar to the newest movies, with focus on drama with some great fights to add. This volume has a future version of Kim come into the past and hunt the rangers. Why is she doing this? Is she controlled? And how is this connecting to the Shattered Dimension crossover event?

Overall, great stuff. Future Kim is both scary (and kind of sexy) and she is a threat that feels...well real. On top of that get plenty of great character growth for most of the rangers, and especially Jason and Kim. The fight at the end feels bit rushed but man is it pretty epic with a awesome fusion of Megazords.

Overall, another fantastic volume with great art and good storytelling. A 4 out of 5.

Going into this I was a little daunted by the fact that this was my first big Power Rangers event, especially considering I hadn’t read any of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers yet. However, I was reassured by the reading order I’m following (as I previously linked at the bottom of my Mighty Morphin, Vol. 1 review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...) that I would still be able to read and understand the plot of this tie-in vol and it was true, I understood the plot for the most part. But the plot felt incomplete, probably because this tie-in was only one-third of the Shattered Grid event content.

The character progression was even more distinct for Kim this time due to the plot, but I was glad to see the rest of the team weren’t neglected and they also faced some troubling times that pushed them further. The whole “secret teen superheroes” trope came to a head in a great and unexpected way for which the consequences will definitely be felt in Saban's Go Go Power Rangers, Vol. 4.

A tie-in volume to the Shattered Grid event starring future Kimberly, the Ranger Slayer, it can be read independently and at your own pace, seen a couple of reading order indexes of the entire event around, but they're totally not needed, you can read the volumes separately.

This volume ramped up the action and the Zord designs are awesome! The last pages were a gut punch and I cannot wait to see where things go from here. The human side and stories are what really make this series a huge hit for me. Parrott does a phenomenal job with these characters.

One of a few of these books with a subtitle, Shattered Grid tells the story of the Power Rangers being confronted with an unfortunate future, and hopefully preventing it from ever occurring.

After a disastrous homecoming, the Rangers struggle to balance their personal lives with their obligation to protect the planet. Zack is trying to regain the trust of the girl he bailed on at the dance, Kimberly senses a distance growing between her and her real-actual boyfriend, Matt. And Jason has confronted his father as he’s learned that he’s been hiding a major illness from their family.

To make matters even more confusing, the Rangers are faced with a peculiar new enemy: Kimberly Hart from the future, using a new moniker - the Ranger Slayer.

See, this Kimberly comes from a future where society is ruled by an ornate Ranger named Lord Drakkon. Stalking has militarized the Power Rangers, deploying Black Rangers as police officers, Reds as royal guards. We learn that Jason and Billy have passed, and that Trini is currently in hiding. Future Kimberly serves the resistance alongside her only friend, Bulk, but she’s cursed under the spell of Lord Drakkon, who can brainwash her into hunting down whoever he is looking for.

So right away I want to point out that I mentioned how I was turned off by the multiverse, Drakkon stuff in the MMPR comics, but I don’t know. I completely loved it here? I think, rather than feeling like a whole separate thing, wedged into an already-busy story, this was used to endear us to our current team as well as an introduction to an iconic character: Tommy Oliver.

See, and spoilers ahead, but The Ranger Slayer is on a Terminator-esque mission. In the future, the team will recruit someone named Tommy Oliver, who will betray the team and overrule all of Angel Grove, before setting his sights on the world and becoming Lord Drakkon. I thought it was such an interesting wrinkle to add to Tommy! Especially since, in the original series, he’s just evil for 3 episodes and then becomes the star of the entire thing. I really appreciate how it seems like he’ll be a bit of a powder keg, and sort of a constant risk? Right on.

The story also moves a climactic battle to upstate New York, which was great. We’re one or two majorly destructive battles in Angel Grove away from a mass exodus. It also introduces some elements that are either new or I wasn’t familiar with. Future Kimberly uses an evil AI to pilot the GraveZord: a Frankensteined mech made from fallen team’s machines.

Jason is a deeply sympathetic character in this one - both Kimberly’s, too! Jason straight up asks Zordon if he could cure his father’s illness and Zordon has to say no and it’s complicated and cool.

Matt has gone from the coolest guy in school to a thrice-over victim to now being the only person who knows the true identities of the Power Rangers. It’s such an exciting wrinkle to add to the story, especially since he seems jaded more than anything.

So alright. I’m all in still. These have been great so far. As is tradition, I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that the spine and back of the graphic novel display the Blue Ranger. These, I’ve put together, mean nothing. But I think it’s fun to hone in on whose book this was, and to me it was inarguably Kimberly. She worries about her past with the group, having gotten Zack canned from his busboy job, and there’s plenty to worry about right now. But the shattered grid angle was fun fun way to inject some anticipatory dread.

I’d like to add that, as it stands, Rita Repulsa is an emissary of the great Lord Zedd. We have yet to see him, nor do we understand his true power. And I, for one, appreciate the restraint. 4/5!

I'm FINALLY getting to read the Shattered Grid storyline! I've followed along on social media so I'm already somewhat familiar with what happens, but finally getting to see the Ranger Slayer in action with her Gravezord was epic!

This ongoing series focuses more on the teenagers with attitude's personal lives than their superhero actions. This volume keeps with that, but there's also plenty of action. Kim's parents' divorce is an ongoing story and I'm enjoying the focus it's getting compared to the few lines in the original tv series. Jason also has somethings going on at home.

The zords in this volume are beautifully illustrated. The bright colors in this whole volume have me flipping back through the book after reading it.

I loved getting to see more of the Coinless world. Bulk and some other known characters are featured. I really enjoyed the scenes between Coinless Bulk and Kim talking. There's also some great later cameos in the Coinless world that surprised me.

One of my favorite things about this series is the Matthew story because I have no idea what to expect. The creative monsters and their names is also a favorite of mine. They always make me chuckle.

I give this volume a 5/5. Both of these ongoing Power Rangers series are excellent. I'm so excited to read the conclusion of the Shattered Grid story next.

Oof ouch my feelings
This one was super good, guys, what? I was a bit confused about the flashback (flash forward?) situation, but at this point, when am I not? But that’s something I’m happy to overlook because oh my word the character development in this was insane. 1000/10 what?!?!
We got alternate universe shenanigans, Matt trying to solve the mystery, a super sweet character arc for Jason, a whole bunch of Kim content (which was so much fun she’s so compelling), and a teaser for the green ranger! What a jam packed volume and I was 100% here for it.
The AU girlie (I won’t spoil don’t worry) was so well written, my word! I never knew what was going on with her, but wow, she was so good. I was floored.
That seems to be the consistent factor with this series; with every new volume I read, I am floored by just how well done this series is. Seriously, if it keeps this up, I might have a new favorite comic series on my hands
7/10 “Billy… why do you have to be so dang helpful?” Once again, best boy Billy was my favorite part. He’s just such a sweetie and I adore him

Finally, some explanation about Future Kim’s motivations in the Shattered Grid event. The team continues to stumble forward with future Kim providing both challenges and help along the way. Jason continues to grow as a leader and as a young man trying to figure out how to best lead the team and his family in moments of uncertainty. And, Kim struggles with a potential future wherein she becomes a version of herself she wasn’t expecting.

Overall, this continues to be a strong series that capitalizes on the gaps that the live-action series provides. Incidentally, this series along with the main mighty morphin line is taking the series into nuanced and thoughtful territory that the campiness of the original live-action could not go. I want more. I want some narrative revisions to happen that is more line with what these two lines are presenting to viewers because these series are better than the original.

this volume was very good, it works well as a stand-alone that foreshadows things for the main series or a tie-in you jump to read as you are reading the shattered grid event

we got to see a lot of focus on coinless Kim which flashed her out and made the audience care for her

and the art was also great, the coinless universe felt distinctively more gritty and the fights were great, rangers slayer got to do a bunch of cool acrobatics and we got to see an awesome new design for a zord made from zord remains (seriously the grave zord is really cool)

"your life will never be short on problems. which is why you have to find time to enjoy these stupid in-between moments."

The third volume of the popular Go Go Power Rangers series by Boom Comics is the first to take a look at the Shattered Grid event. This event takes the prior lore of the series and flips it around on its head. What happens is an incredible event where we get the first sighting of Lord Drakkon, an even more evil version of Tommy Oliver. This volume focuses more on the "older" version of Kim as the Ranger Slayer and it is great! I can't wait for more!

We get the Ranger Slayer who is pretty cool and I do like that we get a darker Kimberly. While it is a little weird that this is a tie in to the Shattered Grid event as aside from like a couple moments it is largely its own story. But still a pretty good volume and I can't wait to see more of the Ranger Slayer.

I love the art in this series more than my current MMPR. Much more detailed. The story follows the Ranger Slayer and connects to MMPR Vol. 8. For Matt being a non-existent character in the original show. BOOM! has done an incredible job of fleshing his character out and creating an actual dynamic with him and the team.

A tie in section of a comic. That is actually pretty awesome and interesting. I'm shocked by how much I liked this. Future Kimberly was a lot. Loved the future bits we got of a very different future. I need to read Shattered grid honestly.

As always, great stuff. The Ranger Slayer is a worthy character, from her design to her megazord. I appreciated that she has her own character arc in this issue, so that even though her larger storyline resolves in the Mighty Morphin comics, Go Go readers aren't left in the lurch.

Finished this a while ago, but really enjoyable stuff. Surprisingly touching and exciting book. The alternate world Pink Ranger arc was sometimes a little dumb, but I still really liked the drama and how it was handled.

A little confusing at first, but this series continues to be just as strong as the main title. A big part of that is the art by Dan Mora, who seems to get better with every issue.

The Short Answer
A near perfect ending to the Matt storyline and the perfect introduction to the Shattered Grid storyline all in one.

This is one of the strongest volumes yet. A definite must read.

The Long Answer
Serving as both the wrap up to the Matt storyline, and a primer to the Shattered Grid storyline, this book is juggling a lot. We get the introduction of Lord Drakkon, the Ranger Slayer, Matt, and even some villain origins, and somehow it never drops a single ball.

There's not a lot more to say. I would personally read this volume before any of the other Shattered Grid storylines from the main series, but that's not required.

If I had one gripe it's that the Ranger Slayer storyline feels like it's solved a little too easily. The dynamic with her and the rest of the Rangers was fascinating . However, the direction they go once that storyline has been resolved makes up for any previous weaknesses, so I can't really complain.

This volume ties up enough loose ends that you could stop here if you wanted, but leaves you excited to see what they have in store next.

Highly recommended.

Part of Shattered Grid, but can still be read just with Go Go. See my notes for spoiler heavy thoughts.

We have an alternate Ranger Slayer Kim sent from Lord Drakkon, but she arrives too early and encounters the team before Tommy had joined.

I really like how Shattered Grid was enhanced with this and was had a major plot twist for the arc as a whole. I had read The main shattered grid arc from Mighty Morphin and only now does it feel complete. Also loved what they did with Matt and how it ended.
