I don't often enjoy devotionals about motherhood because most of them are just flowers, polka dots, and pithy little sayings. But when I got the opportunity to read through Grit & Grace written by authors Suzanne Hadley Gosselin and Gretta Kennedy, I jumped at the chance.

Finally a devotional for moms that isn't flowery or pandering. It is honest and real!

Motherhood can be daunting sometimes can't it? Let me tell you, as a mother to a 4 year old, a 2.5 year old, and 10 month old... motherhood can be downright overwhelming.

It was wonderful to read a book that was honest about real life issues.

I LOVED when Suzanne wrote about her son's seizure disorder. The faith and just, well, grit, that she showed is so inspiring! It was wonderful to hear someone tell the truth about the fact that sometimes parenting is terrifying and you wonder what in the world God is up to.

Gretta's chapter Redwoods and the Epic Stomach Flu, was hilariously relate-able! In fact, I had the exact same experience with the stomach flu just three weeks ago with my kids!

Overall, I give Grit & Grace by Suzanne Hadley Gosselin and Gretta Kennedy a solid A+. I would strongly recommend that anyone in the thick of the motherhood fight read this book. It would be a great thing to read out loud each week at a playgroup or mommy meetup! I plan on reading it with my Bible reading each day to help me remember that God gives us plenty of both grit and grace.

Being a mother is so rewarding; however there are times that it may not feel that way when you are in the midst of sleepless nights, and the day in day out busyness of taking care of the children. "Grit & Grace" is a perfect read for mothers, every single mother out there, and it is written by two mothers who have experiences the highs and lows of being a mother. Each devotional reading is only a couple of pages long, which is perfect, since it is hard to really dedicate a huge chunk of time to something that you want to complete with little to no interruptions. Suzanne and Greta each write from their hearts and share humor and do not hold back as they share their stories. Each of these readings give an accurate representation of motherhood and most importantly will leave you feeling encouraged and reminded that this is such an important and rewarding role and that you are the perfect one to be mothering your children. I was reminded several times that my children are always watching me as to how I live my life day to day, even while completing mundane tasks such as washing dishes. This book is such an encouraging read and I highly recommend it.

GRIT AND GRACE: DEVOTIONS FOR WARRIOR MOMS is a book that all moms can relate to, whether they are veterans with grown children and grandchildren, or whether they are just starting out with their first newborn infant.

The stories are personal and friendly, having something to do with giving birth or parenting, then the authors take leaps to tie it to scripture and include a prayer. I would like there to be actual scripture references to read and meditate on to start with, but there are not, so as far as devotions go, its more of a healthy dose of "Hey, you can do this, Mom" rather than focus on actually feeding you spiritually.

If you are looking for a friendly devotional that will allow you to spend five minutes or less getting a dose of motivation to press on, then this will be a good book to consider. The stories are interesting, easy to read, and were a fun trip down memory lane in some cases.

Grit and Grace: Devotions for Warrior Moms is a great devotional. It is a combination of grace, inspiration, and faith. It had some entries that had laugh out loud humor and some that brought me to tears. It made me realize that I do not have to be a perfect mom and it is okay to laugh and cry.

Grit and Grace: Devotions for Warrior Moms is one devotional that a mom should not miss. I happily gave my copy over to another mom that could be inspired by it. I can not wait to find out how she liked it.

I highly recommend Grit and Grace: Devotions for Warrior Moms for all moms to read. I found it to be relatable and I am sure others will, too. The devotions are short, making it easy for any mom could use. I am give it a well deserved five plus stars.

If you like girl talk and real life stories, this is a great choice. Down-to-earth and touching, this devotional gave me food for thought, insightful stories, relatable bible application, and a story that I wanted to read slow so it wouldn’t end too soon. Very gift-worthy to moms in their earlier stages of mothering (first 10 years, for sure, and other ages depend on audience in my opinion). I would highly recommend.

Disclaimer: I was given a free copy of this book to read and offer a fair and honest review. All opinions are 100 percent my own.

The Authors of this book are both moms that have come together to share stories and wisdom to encourage and inspire those of us in the midst of raising our little ones.  The ladies each take turns writing "devotions" chapter by chapter sharing stories that are so easy to relate to that I felt like I was having a conversation with a dear friend.

The book is categorized as a devotion but if you are looking for the typical devotion that has daily scriptures and questions to ponder at the end of each daily read, then this will not fit that bill. However, each lady does share some scriptures, Biblical references, and a short prayer in each chapter.

In my opinion, this is less of devotion and more encouragement for moms with Biblical and Christian influences mixed in but I loved making the short "devotions" or encouraging chapters a part of each day. The chapters are just short enough to ready in the morning with coffee but long enough to pack in some great words of truth and wisdom!

What I Loved!
If I had to choose just one part of this book to share as my favorite it would have to be Chapter 72, written by Gretta Kennedy. The title of this "devotion" is Comparison Versus Completeness, and man did it hit home with this mamma's heart! The author talks about ways that she herself has battled with the pains of comparing herself with other moms and how that stole her joy.

I don't know about you but I struggle daily with comparing myself to others. Other moms, other bloggers, other book reviewers even, but Gretta talks about how God made us all just as we are and when we let ourselves start comparing what we do or how we are to others it can lead to jealousy, envy, and dissatisfaction in our own lives.

She encourages us to focus on the strengths, gifts, and the talents that God has given us and find joy in those. Thought that can be hard to do at times, it truly is what we should do because God made each us special and unique.

We are who we are meant to be, and that is more than enough!

Along with this great chapter from Gretta there are many well-written chapters from Suzanne too that I know you all would enjoy and find encouragement in. So if you are on the journey of motherhood and could use some wise words and encouragement from other mom's that have been where you are then I highly recommend you pick up a copy of this book soon!

I wish I'd had Grit & Grace when I first became a mother nearly seven years ago. I needed loving, affirming, wise voices of women who'd gone before. That's what Suzanne and Gretta do in this book. Their stories are relatable, and inspiring. They often cite Scripture and there is a prayer at the end of each devotion.

It takes me less than five minutes to read a devotion (good for busy moms) and I often read more than one a day. There's a large range of topics and, for the most part, they can be read in any order. Thus far, I've seen nothing that contradicts the Bible. I do feel the book is best suited for mothers with babies and young children. Not that a mother of a older child wouldn't glean wisdom from the devotions, but I feel like most of the devotions deal with the issues that arise with younger children.

I'll share one of my favorite quotes that has altered my perspective: “The reality that your time with your little ones is limited shouldn't depress you, Mama. It should empower you. It should empower you to sit longer snuggled on the couch, reading 'just one more' book. It should empower you to set aside your to-do list to watch your tutu-clad princess perform her original production for you. (Page 12)” That's just a snippet of one devotional that really hit home for me, but I've underlined statements in nearly each devotion. I can see myself reusing this book over and over again.

Lastly, I received this book less than two weeks before this post was due, so I have not finished it and will update my review once I do so.

Have you ever read a daily devotional book just for moms? I have read many different books that have devotionals in the past for college, moms and more. But this book is not like any of the others that I have read in the past. This one was written with love and kindness knowing what most moms go through on a daily basis. Grit & Grace is a wonderful collection of 90 daily devotionals written by two moms who have too found themselves in need of encouragement. They hope that they too will be able to reach a mom who may feel like they can’t go anymore and they don’t know if they are good parents. Struggling as a parent can be difficult in all but when you have a child who is strong-willed you sometimes feel like you can’t make them happy.

Gosselin and Kennedy were college roommates who started comparing notes over the phone once they became parents with a family. Through the humor of some of the stories to heartbreak, they know that being a strong mom can be a little difficult. This book has made me realize that I’m not the only mom who struggles on a daily basis with if I am adequate enough to be her mom. Olivia does seem to test me every day and really has done so since she was a toddler, but I love her no matter what. This book was written with moms who have young children in mind, but don’t let that shy you away from the book if you have older children. This book has made me feel like I am the right person to be Olivia’s mom and I just need to learn to trust in Him as I continue to go through my journey of being a work from home mom to a child who has a disorder. I will not let that get in my path of being a mom who works hard and loves her more than anything in the world! If you too are searching for a great devotional then this is the book for you! Check out their Facebook, Twitter & Instagram feeds for more about learning to juggle motherhood with real life! I highly recommend this book for all moms who feel like you aren’t adequate enough in life!

I really enjoy devotionals because there is always something God has waiting for me to read. I was so excited when I found out for the first time that I was pregnant. Then reality hit and all these crazy things started running through my head. This book is a wonderful tool to use to encourage mothers as they find their way through motherhood.

I really like the chapter about "Hope in a Hopeless place." I had a similar scary moment with my youngest son. He started having seizures and we rushed him to the hospital. They then transferred him by ambulance to the Children's hospital. We found out after five days in ICU that he had an allergic reaction to mosquito bites. During that time I was so scared I couldn't even think straight. I did learn a valuable lesson through this experience. God is in control and I needed to trust Him with my children.

We can learn many things from our children and one of those is how much faith they have when sometimes we can't even have enough faith to believe our circumstances are not to big for God. Another chapter I liked was called, "Comparison versus Completeness." This chapter really hit home for me. I have always felt inadequate as a mom and see how other women make motherhood look easy. I found myself always tired and disorganized. This chapter reminded me that we are all different . We have been designed by God to be uniquely us. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses . When we learn to focus on or gifts and talents then, " We will experience a peace that surpasses all understanding that will guard your heart and mind."

I received a copy of this book from the authors and Read with Audra blogging program.

“My whole life I’ve heard that God will never give me more than I can handle…Instead, God promises that He will always be with us. He walks with us through our suffering. He carries our burdens. We were never designed to ‘handle’ this life without Him. I know there are times you feel alone. I did. On days like the one I described here, it’s a wonder I didn’t throw in the towel. Take heart, warrior Mama! You are not the first person in history to need a reminder of God’s promises.” (Grit and Grace, p. 134)

Being a mom is the greatest gift in my life, but let’s face it, being a mom can also be pretty tough! Between working full time, taking care of my home, being a mom to an active toddler, and a wife, it can be tricky for me to have the time to connect with other moms and have time for myself! This is why I loved the book, Grit and Grace: Devotions for Warrior Moms.

This book contained 90 short devotions (2-3 pages each), that contained a personal story from one of the authors, a connection to God/scripture, and a prayer. The stories about the authors and the antics of their children made me smile, laugh, and sometimes even tear up. I also appreciated the lesson connected to each story, and the prayers were heartfelt and meaningful. It was an easy read for a busy mom, and I would recommend it to any mom, especially one with young children.

I received a copy of this book through the Read With Audra program. All opinions are my own.

Grit & Grace: Devotions for Warrior Moms was written by two mothers who have been there. The book really helps speak to the heart of other mothers out there who just need that extra bit of encouragement. I honestly had a difficult time putting this down, because it's such a beautiful dedication to all moms out there. What I love about it is that both of the authors share their own personal stories (the great and not so great) in a heart to heart way. The realness that is shared in each devotion is such a breath of fresh air. As I read this, I felt as though I was hearing a friend speak to me about what she was going through...sometimes saying to myself, "Oh yes, that sounds about right!" This isn't one of those parenting books that tries to tell you how to be the "perfect" mother and do it all. It actually keeps things real, offering a heaping dose of Godly encouragement along the way. Readers (mothers) will be reminded that they are the perfect person for the job that God has called them to do. While Grit & Grace was predominately written for mothers with younger children, the messages that are conveyed throughout the pages will surely reach mothers with children of all ages. I received a complimentary copy of this book, however, all opinions are honest and purely my own personal views.

Somewhere during or before the first devotional, I started...well, crying. I could recognize elements of myself on every page and thought, "Wow. These ladies really get it!"

When I started reading the devotionals, I thought to myself, "Well, I've had tons of the gritty side of motherhood, but would like to know more about this grace business!" *lol* It took a while for me to realize that the grace is always there. Maybe sometimes the grit gets in our eyes, and we are unable for a time to see the grace.

It is so very inspirational and comforting to know that there is no SuperMom, not even the near-mythical "Proverbs 31 Woman". Everybody has good days, and every mom has days...well, that she might like to have a do-over. Each devotional is a cool drink of water in the middle of a desert, an idea to remind us we are not alone in this journey - there are other moms in our towns, cities and neighborhoods, and of course, God is there every single moment.

This one is staying nearby on my desk or nightstand. I never know when I'll need a little nudge in the right direction, and I hope to tackle motherhood with "Grit and Grace" in the future.

While 2/3 of my children are out of elementary school and into middle school (I know, I know--deep breaths and lots of prayers), I do still have one in elementary school. I believe this devotional is great for new moms, but has nuggets of wisdom for moms in all stages of motherhood. Grit & Grace is filled with real mommying moments. Each story translated to a similar event that I have experienced (like sitting by my toddler's hospital bed with no control over the outcome, and being totally dependent on the Lord to heal him and give me strength) or can totally imagine experiencing, and I treasured that each lesson was also tied to a Bible story or scripture. In the Bible and in life, God uses everyday events to teach us, sanctify us, show us his love and cultivate a heart after him. Sometimes I take my life lessons or my Bible lessons individually but don't think about combining them. In the coming weeks, I am going to work harder to tie the lesson that I feel God teaching me through my circumstances to His Word!

Love love this book by 2 moms who have come from the trenches of motherhood and share their wisdom with the rest of us. The format of this book is powerful with alternating chapters being written by 2 authors. It’s like getting a 2 for 1 sale. We as readers get the double the wisdom. Basically each chapter is a devotional and it starts off with one of the 2 authors sharing a true story and then they draw spiritual lessons from that story and then end with prayer. The length of each chapter is perfect for a daily reading.

Highly recommend this book to moms of all ages. You will find yourself nodding your head in agreement, laughing, gasping and simply finding community that you can relate to because their stories are our stories.

One of my favorite quotes from the book is ‘I struggled with the identity shift from fully, functional, respectable adult to overwhelmed, insecure hot mess I had become’

Motherhood is long journey that really needs God Grace at times. I received this devotional at a perfect time for me. I am a mom to 3 Teen boys, which can be a difficult time for parenting.
My oldest is going through some major anxiety issues and at times I am not the strong "Warrior Mom" I need to be.

I began reading the devotional and was immediately inspired and encouraged. The real stories of being a mom and to know that many moms experience the same chaos and confusion that the days can bring. I was encouraged by the Scripture that lead me to pray and know that I am not alone in need Grace in the Motherhood Journey.

Grit and Grace is a devotional for all Moms. The devotional will carry you through 90 days of encouragement and inspiration. I personally know that I will go through it again a few months. Motherhood is a wonderful journey and you will be encouraged through this devotional.

Such a wonderful devotional for moms. It really has a way of encouraging tired and stressed out moms. Being a mom is the greatest blessing, but sometimes we just need some encouragement when we just don't think we can get through another day. What I loved about this devotional is how many topics they addressed, sick children, rejection, loneliness, etc. So many things that mom's struggle with on a daily basis.

One particular devotion really spoke to my heart, "Just Move." This devotion speaks of the Holy Spirit, our beloved Comforter, guide and friend. Beautiful.

I truly enjoyed this devotional and the honesty of the two authors, some of their stories were straight to the heart. God bless them both for sharing their life with the rest of moms.

Grit and Grace is such an encouraging book of devotions!

By the time I finished the book, I felt as if I knew Suzanne and Gretta personally — and their families. I laughed — and cried along with them as they told their stories of love, tears, frustrations, temptations, fellowship, and grace.

...and I really LOVED the prayers!

Please check out GRIT & grace: Devotions for Warrior Moms… and read the words of encouragement that have helped Suzanne and Gretta through many of the difficult times we all experience.

Happy Reading!

Oh my word! This book was amazing. Suzanne and Gretta (because I feel like I know them on a personal level through their writing) have done a phenomenal job at conveying the ups, downs, strengths, weaknesses, comical and serious aspects of motherhood. I absolutely adored this book which I think is meant to be read as a daily devotional style, however, I just kept reading page after page because I could relate to so much. I would highly recommend this book to moms everywhere because it’s so relatable and practical yet has such a deep and encouraging message through Bible stories and prayers.

These devotions are beautifully written, encouraging and and challenges mothers to give themselves grace. Being in the trenches of motherhood is sometimes the most challenging and loneliness of times. These devotions help mothers to look to the Lord and to count each day as a blessing. In these devotions there is also practical advice that mothers can share over coffee, not for comparison but for help and encouragement!

This devotional is perfect for busy moms who want to be able to start their day with a deep truth from God’s Word, along with encouragement from a sister in Christ who has been “there.” At times I found myself smiling, and other times I found myself tearing up, but I always had a nugget of God’s truth to reflect on and apply throughout my day. This is such a great devotional!! 😊

I wish I had this book when my children were younger. It helps one to see that you are not alone in this journey of motherhood.

Reading Grit & Grace encouraged me to treasure hunt for grace in the challenging moments of motherhood and to remember to savor the sweet moments I want etched deep into my heart forever. This devotional makes me feel like I’m linking arms with godly mamas who are farther ahead in the journey & I love learning from their wisdom & reflections about the soul-shaping journey of motherhood. Thank you, Suzanne & Gretta, for being vulnerable and sharing both the hilarious & groan-inducing moments of motherhood. I laughed, cried & felt not so alone as I read this book. SO good!

An adorable book for Moms that warmed my heart. I like the little prayers that end each mini-chapter, as they are an inspiration for my own spiritual practice. This book feels to me similar than the Chicken Soup For The Soul series, just with a more deliberate Christian slant, of course.

This is a lovely book that will help many moms and I know a lot of hard work and thought has gone into producing it. I am glad it exists. It would suit parents whose kids are on the younger side and I think I missed this implication in the description. As parenting is hard at all levels, even with teenage kids I was interested. I should have paid more attention to the blurb.

Suzanne and Gretta's devotions are helpful but they are pitched at very different spiritual levels. Given the title of the book this may be intentional but it may also be the characters of the authors coming through. This is potentially a good thing as it will appeal to different audiences but when the two styles are so different it feels jarring to flip too and fro between the two authors and I think that choice of layout was an error. Alternating between the two is disconcerting as one author is invariably less relevant. In some ways it would have worked better to have them grouped by author or by topic or even under the headings "Grit" and "Grace".

Eventually you end up identifying with, or at least appreciating, one author more than the other. After a while I skipped over a lot of Suzanne's as I cannot identify with the young child world anymore and I found it quite irritating. The devotion about - you don't have long with them make the most of it - is genuinely agonizing when they are about to leave home. Trust me, you KNOW you don't have long with them and there is nothing you can do about it. Being lectured about something you should have done in the past is not helpful and I did feel like I was being lectured at or worse, at times, patronised.

Gretta, on the other hand, was worth reading and I felt she was trying to pass on God given insights she had learned and that she felt might be helpful. Her devotions felt like guidance that was offered without judgement from a trusted friend. Gretta's tended to be about her kids or situations she had learned from whereas Suzanne's tended to be about herself and what great ordeal she had been through or overcome.

Finally, the contents section needs to link to the devotions on a Kindle. I think some of my thoughts may come from reading in a linear fashion. I guess in reality people will pick out the ones they need as they need them or read them one a day but on the Kindle if there are no links between sections you have to trawl through it all.

All in all helpful, useful but possibly it's been done before and better by people like Ann Spangler.

"Grit and Grace" by Suzanne Gosselin and Gretta Kennedy is a Moms devotional. Grit and Grace is a devotional for Moms written by two Moms. It is excellent. It gives great examples of daily life struggles as a Mom and how they faced these challenges. It also brings in scripture and ties it into the passage. There is a prayer at the end. This book reminds Moms they do not have to be perfect in a world that they may feel they have to be perfect. It is hard to find good solid devotionals with real examples for Moms to help strengthen and gird Moms up. I appreciate the publisher and author for allowing me to read and review this book. I know it will be helpful to many moms.

What a lovely devotional book for moms! While this book is meant to be read over a period of time, I have to be honest - I found myself reading devotional after devotional. The book was beautiful. I found myself resonating with word after word and page after page, especially as a young mom. The stories were relatable, the truths simple but deep and the prayers resonated with my heart. This is a book I will be recommending to friends with young kids.
