Along with his fellow dragon shifters that have come to Earth from Charok, Xander is looking for a mate to help him raise his charge: a baby dragon princess who was rescued after the killing of her mother, their queen. But it can’t be just any woman. When dragons find their perfect mates, their bodies react so fiercely, they can’t deny it.
Summer is most definitely that woman. His inner dragon claws at his will when he’s around her, threatening to tear it to shreds. His urge to be with her is uncontrollable, but the harder he tries to be with her, the more Summer pulls away.
Summer is a free spirit. And a witch. She’s happy with her life, running a new age shop with her twin sister, and finds using her powers to help others to be quite fulfilling.
But when she meets Xander, her world is suddenly turned upside down. He claims they’re meant to be together; destined for each other, even. He can feel it in his bones. But they’re such different people, she can’t fathom how it could ever work.
If two souls are truly destined to be together, can they overcome their differences enough to realize a love that knows no bounds?

Meg Ripley is an author of steamy shifter romances. A Seattle native who’s relocated to New England, she can often be found whipping up her next tale curled up in a local coffee house with a cappuccino and her laptop.
I enjoyed the story and the characters. Xander is determined to win his mate over once he finds her. She is not as sure as he is of the idea of being destined mates. They make a great couple and you can feel the chemistry right away. Each book can be read as a standalone but I recommend you read them all.
This one was interesting, but for listening to the 75% it was a clean funny read. But they were like a lot going back and forth about the “mate” bond. Then the last 25% there was some spice but not a whole lot. It wasn’t exciting or enticing.
So in all honesty, I only downloaded this book because I wanted to fill the X square on my alphabet challenge early this year. And of the X titles I found, this sounded like it could be my jam.
Unfortunately, it was not. The premise had me picturing a sort of mash up of Ruby Dixon and Naomi Lucas but it was just really poorly executed.
Xander is a dragon shifter from another planet. He and some friends escaped with the queen’s remaining eggs when their planet was under siege and fled to Earth to live and raise the babies. Their kind have one true mates and their bodies tell them when they’ve met theirs.
My first issue with this is that they were from another planet. If they’d never had to flee, does that mean these particular dudes would never have mated? Because clearly they’re all getting human mates. And all in the same city. Totally normal. Not sus at all.
Rightfully, Summer is shocked and overwhelmed by Xander’s claim that she’s his mate. But after zero chemistry or romance for a week and suddenly she’s all in.
The whole thing felt really stilted and detached. There was absolutely no romance, no connection, no chemistry, no…anything. Even the one sex scene felt forced. And I was bored. Bored! At a sex scene!
Nora, the little girl, was kinda cute but I found myself confused from one moment to the next about how old she was meant to be. First she’s babbling nonsense so I’m thinking like one-ish. But then she can almost speak in sentences and completely understands everything that’s going on. I dunno, I feel like I could have overlooked it if the rest had been well written but sadly, as we’ve established, it was not.
This book seems to have quite a high rating on Goodreads which honestly baffles me. To each their own though, as the saying goes.
I liked Xander's Mate more than the first one. Xander, another Charok dragon who escaped with an egg is looking for a mate for himself and a mother for his baby dragon, Nora. He meets summer, a local witch and immediately recognize her as his mate. In spite of their connection Summer is unwilling to get involved with a handsome daddy dragon. What does he do? He brings in the big guns- Nora. The cute little baby dragon stole the show.
This is the second book about four dragon shifters -- Xander, Holden, Beau, and Julian – who had narrowly escaped from Charok with their lives, taking the last eggs that had belonged to their slain queen to start a new life on Earth. Now each of the dragons needs to provide a family for themselves and the young dragons that they were able to save. This book focuses on Xander Mitchell’s search for his mate.
Xander had tried online dating, but as Holden explained to him when he went to pick up his baby girl, Nora, the woman had to be his “fated mate”, not just any female. Just seeing a woman’s picture online was not going to work. So they made plans to attend a community picnic the next day, leaving the kids with Beau.
Summer, a witch and strongly independent woman, stretched and enjoyed nature, especially the sun shining through the windows. She was just about to go out for a walk through the woods when her twin called to remind her of all the things she wanted her to take care of in their new age shop. Summer assured Autumn that she had it under control but would not open the shop until after the Small Business Association picnic. She met Leah there and Leah took her to meet some of the other business owners.
Holden and Xander arrived at the picnic. Xander was squirming in his seat, his wings wanting to burst loose from his back. Holden smiled, reminding him of the symptoms he himself felt when he met Leah, his mate. Scales appeared around Xander’s eyes so he kept sunglasses on; and a claw popped from his finger. As they approached Leah and her friend, Xander had to struggle harder to keep control of his dragon. When she shook hands with him, the electric spark let him know she was indeed his. When another woman walked past and made nasty comments about the witch, Xander asked her to move along and find something else to do. He was not sure why Summer did not appreciate that and would rather ignore the woman. So instead of asking her out, he sensed her displeasure and just said remarked that it was nice to meet her.
Summer doesn’t believe in fated mates and just wants to be friends with Xander. Her free spirit attitude does not want to be tied down, despite the chemistry between them. Will she finally give in and realize what she is missing with Xander and what she could share with him?
This is a well-written story. The characters were well developed; the reader could not help but hope that Xander and Summer could make a future together with their baby dragon, Nora. The story line is perfectly paced and draws the reader in. Highly recommended!
3.5 stars — Welp, I enjoyed this one more than Holden’s Mate! It’s funny because a few of my complaints about the previous book was the lack of dragon time and the lack of kid time, and we got both of those in this one!! I loved seeing Xander interacting with Nora, they had such a fantastic daddy/daughter relationship. And I loved that we got a bit more of a feel of what it was like for Xander as a dragon…and what shifting is like, and all that stuff. Though I still don’t know what happens to the clothes, or any of those details, but at least this was better.
And in general I really liked Xander! He tried SO HARD. I loved that he made missteps, but that after time and thought, he understood where he went wrong and tried to make up for it. He was so earnest, and I loved his genuine curiosity about Earth and humans. I just felt drawn to him.
Summer, on the other hand, was not my favourite. She confused me. I mean, I think she’s supposed to. And the author tried really hard to explain why Summer was reacting so bizarrely, but in the end I still didn’t buy into it. It was an extreme reaction, and I still don’t understand what was bothering her so much. If there had been some mystical explanation, I probably would have accepted it more. But she was really just afraid of a relationship. Now don’t get me wrong, Xander comes on strong, and she should be all “whoa buddy!” But she flipped her lid a few times and it just seemed TOO out of character for her.
Also, is it weird to say that I wasn’t all that interested in her communing with the spirits and all that? Which is weird, since that’s more authentically Wiccan I think, and I don’t actually have a problem with the religion, but it felt the same as if I were reading about a book with heavy Christian overtones…religious stuff is religious stuff, and it’s not what I’m there for. Her more otherworldly magical powers were much more exciting! Though I did love seeing her help out patrons in her shop.
As for their chemistry…well, because of Summer’s reactions, I had a hard time getting sucked into their connection. So I wasn’t as invested as I wanted to be in their romance.
So definite improvements in some areas, but still not a complete hit for me. Ah well.
I read this book as part of an arc program. This is the second book in the Daddy Dragon Guardian series. In this book Xander is looking for his mate and a mother for his daughter Nora. Xander sees how his daughter needs a motherly touch and he wants to feel loved after seeing how humans interact. When he meets Summer, a witch and a friend of his fellow dragon's mate, he knows right away she is meant to be his. Xander feels the urge to shift into his dragon when she is near and he can barely control himself. Summer is independent and doesn't feel she needs a man. When Xander first meets her, he comes to her defense against a woman who badmouths Summer for being a witch and Summer thinks he overstepped and she could have handled it herself. Summer doesn't believe Xander when he tells her she is his mate, but she feels something different for him and wants to get to know him and be friends. Xander agrees to go slow. but he has a harder time with that then he thought. I like this series, I love the idea of the men having to raise the little dragons and looking for their mates. Xander was great with Nora and she was adorable. I laughed at her and thought she was so cute. This was a really good story and I can't wait to read the rest of this series.
I really love this series from Meg Ripley. This is the second story of dragons who had to leave their planet who are hiding out on earth. They each have taken a hatchling now little dragon to raise and are trying to find their destined mates. Xander loves to study everything about humans. Summer is a witch and a friend of Leah's who is Holden's mate. Xander really wants to find his mate now that Holden is so happy. He wants nothing more than to have Nora his little dragon have a Momma. Nora is an adorable little girl. At first Summer really wants to just be friends with Xander and even though he KNOWS they are mates she is confused why she hasn't "felt" it yet. Meg does a great job of right a story that just leaps from the page and gives you little things to laugh about (like when Nora is out to dinner with Xander and Summer) and drama (when Xander feels trouble) and hot sex. Even though Summer was fighting this I felt the chemistry and connection between the two and really loved the story. It's a standalone but Holden's Mate was so good you should read the series!
This one was definitely better than the first one. That’s why I would rate it a 3,5.
More communication between the main characters, which was great. Also the fact that he didn’t give his daughter to someone else the whole time to spent time with his mate.
Still there are things that I missed. Like more about the backstory and information about the whole dragon thing. They are looking for mates to have a mother for their adopted kids, ok. But what about: can they get kids on their own. What exactly happened at their home. Will they forever stay on earth? What’s the plan. Especially since at the beginning it is said, that they are on earth for a few years now, but in the first one it said they were there for a few months: that means between the stories is a lot of time. But you want to tell me, that in all that time the 4 male best friends haven’t met Leah’s(FMC in the first book) best friends? That doesn’t make sense to me to be honest.
I will still read the rest of the series, because it’s an easy and quick read for in between and I can’t just leave at two out of four books.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Safety warning/Triggers: Mentions of death, genocide, fleeing from war. Though I’d consider this book to have no triggers due to how minor these things feature in this short book and the potential triggers are very limited in detail and are not graphic - it’s simply passing comments.
Xander’s Mate was a well written book with likeable main and side characters. There were aspects of Xander’s and Summer’s personality and interactions that I’ll admit to liking but I was very detached from it all. It is a short book and the pace does move very quickly (part of this is due to the fated mates nature of the relationship) which left it feeling too underdeveloped for my tastes. It was in my opinion a ‘tells more than it shows’ book and I didn’t connect to the book; it was just something to read that filled an hour in the day.
If he can't get Summer to fall in love with him then he's gonna have to bring in the big guns - Nora This is the second book in the Daddy Dragon Mate series and these sweeties just get better and better. Here we meet Xander who is desperate to find his mate and mommy to little Nora. He's floundering when it comes to making Summer fall in love with him, she's a witch and is perfect for his little family and especially for him as his dragon let's him know in no uncertain terms that she's his mate. Summer on the other hand isn't convinced and that's when the fun starts. He's gonna need all the help he can get, including the power of love. I love this series and this book just makes my heart melt with the way he hasn't a clue in how to woo human women. I received an advanced reader copy and I thoroughly enjoyed it
Beware the baby dragon; she will steal the whole show!
I enjoyed reading Xander and Summer's story, it was very sweet and not too dramatic (with a dragon and a witch as MCs, that was not a given way to go). Most of the reason for my rating is the lack of connection to the MCs, Xander in particular. His personality doesn't stand out in any way, it is hard to get to know him. Summer is easier; she is a witch, spiritual, connected to nature and obviously a bit scared to take a risk on love.
The biggest advantage this story has is Nora, the most adorable baby dragon! She has such a vivid personality and is central in many of the important scenes where the MCs meet. It impossible not to fall in love with this little bundle of joy!

Life on Earth surely isn;t easy. Human women and emotions are even more daunting. Xander is the caretaker/dad of little Nora. He sees how his friend Holden has found his mate and hopes for one of his own. Online dating really isn;t all it;s cracked up to be at least for him. Then he;s invited by Holden and Leah to go to the summer business picnic. There he;s introduced to Summer, a local witch who owns a shop with her twin sister. Just seeing her then touching her hand assures Xander she;s the one for him. Unfortunately for him, things don;t go as planned and Summer sets more blocks in their path to happiness. Fantastic story and read! Can't wait to see how each of the other dragons adjust to Earth and Earth women.

In this second book of the series Xander will find his mate, Summer, who is a witch and the owner of a new age shop with her twin sister. If you have read the first book of the series you will recognise her.
I found the book nice and not too long, perfect to read during an afternoon when you just want to disconnect and rest. The story is quite simple and basically focus totally on the couple, so I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a book with more things going on or a serie with a background story that links all books together.
I don't know exactly why but I didn't like Summer too much, It happened the same with the female character of the first book...

I love these books by this author. She writes incredibly funny and romantic stories with wonderful characters. This one is about Xander who is rearing Nora, a young toddler/dragonlet on his own. He is one of 4 adult male dragon shifters who have come to earth to protect the 4 little ones from destruction on their home planet. Each male is searching for his true mate among the human women. Xander meets Summer at a community picnic where he learns that she is a witch. She knows he is a dragon (read the other books to get the details), but is not on board with the "fated mate" idea. The story is well-written and the characters are entertaining, especially Nora, as any toddler/dragonlet can be!

Great Story I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review: Hot dragon shifter Xander is looking for his true mate and mother for his daughter. He knows they belong together, all his instincts tell him so. He believes they are destined to be together. Summer a witch does't believe in mates, she believes in fate and destiny. She does feel a attraction, but she feels a loss of connection and no spiritual guidance and is in denial of this destiny. Will she find the guidance/sign from the earth/elements she needs, to show her they belong together? Can Xander prove to Summer that they are mates? Great book, with strong characters and story line. Loved It! Can't wait for the next book in the series!!
Summer is a free spirit and wants no ties to any man, also she is a witch and proud of it! Xander doesn’t want a mate, he thinks he can bring up his daughter just fine on his own! Then they meet and although thinks start off a bit badly they soon are thinking about each other more than they realise. This is an enjoyable read about how two people, that are obviously meant to be together, who fight it all the way. This next book in the series does not disappoint. “I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book"

Seeing Holden and Leah happy together causes Xander to start wishing to find his mate. Summer is a witch and a free-spirit. The last thing she wants or needs is a man/mate. Will Xander be able to convince Summer that they belong together and to be a mother for Nora(the little dragon/girl he's raising)? While this is standalone, it's the second story in the series and best enjoyed in order.

This is the second book in the Daddy Dragon Guardians series, can be read as a standalone story. No cliffhangers and has a wonderful HEA. Xander is dragon and he's on the look out for a mate, to help him look after his daughter. He meets Summer, a witch, she's a free spirit and totally all for nature. Can Xander get Summer to realize that they are perfect for each other?
I am loving "Daddy Dragon Guardians!" Xander's story is the perfect combo of romance and heart, magic and wonder & oh! La, la! Xander and all his supposed knowledge of dating human woman, suddenly fail him when Summer comes into the picture! Summer, a very independent Witch with a heart of gold and freedom in her soul, wants nothing more than to be herself! Put the two stubborn destined mate's together and wait for the heat to build! Truly a pleasure read!

Xander and three other dragon shifters escaped to Earth when their race was exterminated on their home planet. He is searching for his human mate while trying to learn about how human society works. Summer is a witch and a friend of Leah's who is Holden's mate. Xander wants to find his mate now that Holden has. Meg's does a great job with these books it is different as it has men raising baby dragons should read the whole series though each book can be read alone. Highly recommend to read.

These dragons are trying to find mates and mothers to the eggs they saved and came to earth with. Xander's is sweet, an awesome father to his daughter Nora and very protective of those he loves. Summer is a witch and knows about dragons but learns that she is Xanders mate and that she isn't sure of. Following Xanders patience and Summer's acceptance was a very pleasurable story. To date both books in this series have left me feeling very content. I can definitely recommend this seris.
This one was much better than the first and I'm so glad I continued. You get more history and background in this one. And although it's a "mates" story, it wasn't instalove. Because she fought him, making him realize he couldn't just show up and say they were supposed to be together. Because that's not how it worked. So I definitely enjoyed this one more. You also get to learn more about the children and what happened on their planet. The characters felt better constructed. Although the female main character, at times made me laugh, was kind of annoying.
Did you want smut novel about dragons and witches? Did you want more than one chapter of it? Well, this book it not for you. This is so PC compared to the cover. Was this book written by AI? Heck, maybe it was. Overall, I was not a fan, but it was a quick read. This was just a modern dating story where the characters are some version of a scalie. With a frustrating narrative where the author believes that a woman's place is at home taking care of the children. And that it is not OK or normal for a child to grow up without a mother. I guess it was kind-of a fun read.
how to train your dragon ??? Can a dragon learn to court a human and get it right when the mating bond makes him impatient and fear makes her stall ? The second book of these alien dragon shifters is every bit as good as the first with strong feisty heroines and hunky dragon shifters. Throw in a cute toddler and you have the perfect recipe for a great story

Xander is a dragon you can relate to....quirky dedicated to his adopted daughter unsure of himself and on the lookout for his mate! Summer is a witch who wants to be left alone to commune with nature and run her shop. Mix Nore the dragonette with these two and who cant help falling in love? This is an enjoyable read from first meeting to end of book!

Xander's Mate was so good. He was shown to be a caring father and mentor to baby Nora. Finding his mate was earth shattering for him. The twist and turns in this book are worth reading. This book was given for honest review.https://booksprout.co/arc/3237/xander...
