Night Shadows

Rate this book
Tom, a gifted artist, murders a youth in London. The hunt is on. Helen is onto the scoop of a lifetime, but is carrying the criminal’s child. Hawke will stop at nothing to put Tom – and his unborn child – under the microscope, even at the risk of an international crisis. Evie, a rape counselor, is torn between helping Tom or his pursuers. Events converge in a rapidly escalating manhunt, to an exposure that will echo into the future.

This is another dramatic, hard-hitting page-turner by the author of Jessie Running,
a profound story that dumps a damaged teenager into the underbelly of society,
where her driving passion for vengeance is more likely to get her killed.

The first chapter grabs your attention and pulls you in.......
After the death of his adoptive mother, a man began searching for his birth mother and true identity, also learning his ties to a 35 yr old crime.
By day, Tom was an artist and creator of stain glassed windows. Although he always tried to hide his inner demons that were always surrounding him, by night, surrounded by the darkness and shadows, he was a vigilante putting himself in vulnerable situations. He showed no fear, in any situation.
When first meeting Helen in a pub, he knew instinctively that she would bear his child. After being kidnapped by the Army, Helen found herself in America, near area 51. She was scared but safe as long as the baby remained in her. She was Tom's bait.
Was Tom the result of an alien abduction? Embarking on a journey across continents, he found himself with alien enthusiasts, as well as being searched for by the Army and a group of cuckoo scientists. He had to find Helen and his unborn child.
In his quest to find Helen and the truth, he found himself being taken by a greater force and seemingly disappeared.
Suddenly, several young women in Arizona, seduced by a stranger, found themselves fertilized and filled with maternal instincts. All the while, the night shadows watched and waited.....

This book by Chris Lewando was what I would call "good" science fiction as it wasn't one of your ho-hum space alien stories. The reader's attention is grabbed from the riveting first pages through to what is a somewhat surprising conclusion. The characters were very interesting and complicated which gave them an almost humanlike dimension for the reader to be able to almost see and feel their thoughts, emotions, and actions. The story was based primarily on one man, Tom, and his search for his true identity, which was also happened to be tangled with his dark vigilante urges to rid society of truly "dark" soul-minded people. It was also a story about possible alien abductions now and in the past and were any of their stories real or true, and did any of them result in pregnancies. Of course, with the story involving aliens, you can't forget about the military response and actions. The ones in this book did and did not follow that normal path either, as some feared the aliens were going to be hostile and wanted to be prepared for an attack while others took a different approach of let's see what they really want before we go to military action. Loved Night Shadows!
As a small edit, Elie is likely either a psychiatrist or psychologist, but unlikely to be both, at least in North America. I know less of England, Europe; maybe it's different there.
In North America, psychiatrists, complete medical school, deliver babies and all that, and then complete psychiatry residencies, generally 5 years training after completing med school.
Psychologists generally have Masters or Doctorate in Psychology.
So quite different. As I said, maybe Europe is different.

This book was great right from the start. I was surprised with the ending. I love the characters in this story. Who doesn't love a possible alien abduction.

I received this book for free and I totally recommend reading it. Thank you for the free copy.

It's an interesting story about the relations between humans and aliens, such as love, fear, curiosity and friendship. It also shows us that we still have a lot to learn in this world to make it a better place to live in.

Great science fiction tale wrapped so well in humanity with all its traits.
A thrilling story with mystery attached and a question of spirituality.
An absorbing and entertaining read.

Science fiction is not my preferred genre but I thought I’d give it a try. It really sucked me in. I liked the characters and Tom’s search for his biological roots. The last part of the book was a little draggy but overall it held my interest.
