Leslie is a simple pig girl. She loves sushi, she’s stuck with a job she hates, and she lives under a brutal totalitarian government—one that punishes transgressors for anything deemed “unnatural.” Leslie dreams of something different for herself. But those dreams are becoming dangerous… This Italian hit series by MIRKA ANDOLFO (Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, DC Comics Bombshells) will transport you into a colorful but terrible world—full of anthropomorphic creatures, but light on personal freedoms—by way of a breathtaking plot that travels between thriller and fantasy, with a hint of sensuality.

Look, I get the subtext, the whole animals standing in for something else bit. I get it, I do. I just don't understand why I have to have tits thrust in my face. Sorry. So much female nudity for no reason.
Oh, and Blacksad did the same topic, ever so much better.
I am planning on reading lot more comics this year as compared to last year. For comics, there would be only ratings no elaborated review going forward.
Leslie, the pig girl, hates her job, working at a diner. She lives in a totalitarian society, where nobody is allowed to have „unnatural“ relationships. So, only your own species and the opposite sex. Problems ensue.
I like the artwork well enough. The story of issue #1 was ok, but didn‘t really tempt me to continue.
This is a graphic novel originally published in Italy in 2016. So very glad it has come to the U.S! Set in a world of sentient animals (pigs, goats) where cross-species and same-sex fraternizing is illegal and marriage and procreation is mandatory after the age of 25. Complex, with amazing characters. And beautifully illustrated to boot. Just, wow!
It's about a dystopic universe where animals are the new humans. All animals are obligated to found a couple like them, so it's unnatural being with others breeds. She's a pig girl who dreamed with a wolfman, but it's just a dream, isn't it?
During her birthday she received a message telling her she has been add it into the reproduction program. Now she's going to be coaxed and obligated to match with a pig-him boy. How could she do that when she has naughty dreams with her wolfman?
She needs figure it how gonna live in a world full of taxes, rules and restrictions... and a stalker who looks deliciously dangerous 😈
overall: 2/5. beautiful art, shit story. bland characters, convoluted setting, too neat an ending, and flavourless romance - would have been better off as friends! andolfo does cut down on the unnecessarily sensual panels later on. they don't add anything to the story beyond its inception. the whole dystopian government bit never really makes sense. the mythological aspect of it - WHY is the albino bound to her? - is not explained well either. one entire issue was devoted to a friend's death purely to work in an emotional angle.
love the colors, though! i also liked the exploration of so-called hidden paradises - how they can be perfect, and also as cruel/ignorant as the outside world.
Translated from Italian. Trigger warning for sexual harassment in the workplace. Smut with a Zootopia (anthropomorphic animals living in a restrictive/oppressive society) meets Black Mirror (technology, capitalism, reproductive control) meets Vampire Diaries (dangerous desires, erotic dreams that maybe be the result of magic, shrouded stalkers) feel. I don’t particularly enjoy the protagonist Leslie but I’m curious to see where this is going to go.
I love comics with adult themes AND anthropomorphic characters. I hope there are some lesbian characters later on; I dislike how gay men get the bulk of queer rep.
I was immediately drawn to the cover art, and subsequently the breathtaking interior pages. But it's the not-so-subtle social commentary I'm living for.
I knew I wanted to read this comic ever since I saw the sneak peek in the April Issue of Previews. An adorably chubby pig girl is having erotic dreams about a Wolf man. What more could a comic blogger who grew up on Harry Potter fan fiction want? So when it became available to review I jumped at the opportunity.
Unnatural is about a pig girl named Leslie that lives in a time where the government is not only overbearing but passing laws and regulations that push a particular type of relationship on its citizens. Sound Familiar? Dating outside of your species is illegal. Dating the same sex inside of your species is illegal.
If you’re single, then your taxes are more expensive than other citizens who are in relationships or who are married. If you are unmarried by the time you turn twenty five, you are placed in the government’s Reproduction Program, where they find you a mate.
Leslie works as a waitress in a small restaurant with wayyy too small uniforms, and lives in an apartment with a mouse girl and her pet dragon. She just wants to find her place, and find true love.
The biggest reason I wanted to read this is I’ve never read a comic with an erotic tilt to it, and this comic definitely delivers that. I think it’s a very unique point of view and speakers volumes about the type of situation same sex couples and single people are in in this day and age. They always say that great art is indicative of the time it was created in, and Unnatural is no exception.
I love the art. Clean, smoky and moody, it lays the perfect groundwork for your feelings during this comic. All the colors are in a cool tone and it definitely gives the appearance of dream state. The writing is pretty good too, and since both are done by Mirka, I can’t wait to see what comes next for Leslie.
Sadly it is pretty close to life now even though we aren’t talking animals. I love the quirky light hearted ness along with the suspense of who may be following her as well as be her “soulmate”
The main character Leslie, is a pig girl who lives in a world stuck under a totalitarian government, where anything considered "Unnatural" is illegal. This doesn't stop her from having dreams about a mysterious man, who if she got with him in real life, would both be breaking the law. This story is very blatantly an allegory for the way interracial and same-sex marriages were banned and considered "unnatural" for many years. The story just changes it from human races to different animal races instead. The weird thing though, is that some species of people in this series look almost completely animal while others, such as Leslie look extremely human. (I don't know if this is because pigs, in reality, have a lot of genetic similarities to humans so they thought pigs would naturally look more human-like than the other animal species, or if they just didn't know how to make a pig girl look "sexy" without making her look more human) This story does also talk heavily about a "reproduction program", where by the age of 25 you entered into a government program that tries to set you up with your "soulmate". Though by "soulmate", the program means "someone of the opposite gender and same species, that's a good genetic/age match". This concept is honestly interesting and extremely dystopian. Though the concept of that type of program isn't new, I've heard of several Asian countries trying to start up similarly styled programs. This series is also pretty sexual and includes several scenes that are basically soft-core p/rn. I don't mind casual nudity, and I knew there would be some NSFW stuff going in, so it didn't bother me too much. The art is absolutely gorgeous and is honestly a huge reason why I wanted to read this in the first place. While the allegories for real life are so obvious, I am very curious about this story. The mystery of Leslie's dreams is interesting and honestly makes me want to find out the truth behind them. I'll be seeking out the next volume!
This story delves into a dystopian world where anthropomorphic animals are subjected to a totalitarian regime. The government's strict control over reproduction, particularly its prohibition of interspecies and same-sex relationships, creates a fascinating and unsettling backdrop.
The artwork effectively introduces the world and its characters, drawing the reader into this unique universe. The main characters are intriguing, and their struggles against the oppressive system promise a compelling narrative.
While the premise is intriguing, it remains to be seen how the story will develop and whether it will delve deeper into the philosophical implications of the government's control over individual choice
As a lover of Romantasy stories I was captivated by the cover and the title "Unnatural". The blurb made me curious and I got myself the ebook version of this COMIC Attention: This review is regarding the eBook. I really liked the graphics but the text in the speech bubbles was hard to read for me: eBook! Maybe the paperback is much better to read. It's the first part in a series of 3, and the sexy pig-girl really has a weird life, erotic dreams and probably a dangerous and interesting future, but I will not go on reading the series.
“Unnatural” is a visually striking graphic novel with a unique premise that blends dystopian themes with elements of fantasy and romance.
The world-building is intriguing, presenting a society where hybrid creatures are oppressed, and the protagonist’s journey is both emotional, thought-provoking and rebellious.
I’m looking forward to reading volume 2 to see what happens next. It’s worth checking out if you’re a fan of unique graphic novels.
Amei!
In one word this graphic novel is hot; sexy, witty and what I so exciting is that the author use animals ad her characters and very sexy animals at that. A good story line. Girl having romantic dreams of a stranger. This story is for adults and young adults. Five stars because I like the storyline. Looking forward to book two.
The story of the wolf and the pig is very big and reminiscent of a bad wolf, but that’s not a bad thing. The raptor pet is interesting, and I hope they expand on why they have a pet dinosaur. I like where the plot is going and how it’s building. I’m interested to see what happens and where these characters go,
A world of animals and fascist breeding programs. If you're looking for a book about na young woman pig having steamy dreams about a wolf, this is for you. It's certainly not for me.
MIRKA ANDOLFO IS THE CREATOR OF THE LATEST COMICS STRIP BOOK NATURAL (UN). THE MAIN CHARACTER IS A PIGGY LOOKING WOMAN WHO PARTIES WITH NON PIGGY FRIENDS UNTIL SHE CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE.
Huge fan of miss Mirka. Love her art style and story telling. Unnatural is relatable to today's world. Touching on taboo subjects like same interracial dating and mating to same sex, except in Unnatural is base on animal species
I found a preview in one of the comics I was reading and a liked the art...I read the first issue and now I'm hooked. Let's see what happens next! The art is stunning!
