Flung back in time by a terrible car accident, Cora must find her destiny in the wild Scottish Highlands — and escape the murderous plot that ended the life of her ancestor before it’s too late.
Cora Wilcox has been trapped in a maelstrom of depression since the disappearance of her dear friend Audrina. As a midwife, Cora has seen her fair share of joy and heartbreak, and after a particularly tragic evening, Cora is injured in a horrific car accident. Instead of waking in the hospital, she instead finds herself in a green field in the medieval Scottish highlands.
The Lady of the castle is in her childbed, but something isn’t right, and the midwife is nowhere to be found. Riding hard to find help for his Laird, Ian MacClaran is literally thrown into the lap of a young woman in strange clothing who happens to be exactly the help he is looking for.
Coming to terms with spending the rest of her life in this new reality was one thing, but it’s the way Ian MacClaran’s hazel eyes won’t leave her that is sparking something inside her that she never thought possible. However, Cora’s identity in this world has the potential to bring ruin upon the Clan, especially if a familiar enemy discovers that she has returned.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The story was good, but a bit too much if you like. The events were a litlle bit too over the top for me. Also the ending was so sudden that I did not realized it was done. Moreover, I don't think I actually got to know the MMC, it had "he's just ken" enrgy towards the end, which was sad since I liked him at first...
Kindle unlimited purchase/ Audible By Rebecca Preston Cora missed her friend. She has been missing going on 2 years tonight. And all she wants to do is go home and eat ice cream. Nope. She has to go to a funeral, for a client of hers that has lost their baby. Ian is on his way the village, his lord's wife is in labor and he needs to get the midwife. But all of a sudden his horse kicked him off in the middle of the road. Now he is sitting on the forest floor looking at this lass as she runs off to get his wayward horse. I enjoyed this book. I read book 1 about a year ago. For some reason, I lost track of this series. Now I get to READ it instead of waiting for the next books to come out. I had the privilege of renting this book with my KU account and I also used one of my credits on Audible account. Now the reason I was so excited to lessen to a book LIKE this is, I knew I was going to hear the wonderful Highlander accent. But sadly that was NOT the case. For about the first three chapters then it stopped. But I still enjoyed the experience. So I recommend this book to anyone over the age of 18. If you like a story with plot, drama, character development, and yes SEX well this IS the series for you!
Book 2. Have you ever heard the song that goes - 2nd verse, a little bit louder and a little bit worse.
That was this book in a sentence. I read the first 3 chapters on my kindle as an extra from book 1 and I was intrigued enough to buy it. I wish I hadn't. It felt like the same story- but worse. There wasn't really romance - the heroine just decided she wanted to start sleeping with the 'main' guy, and so she did. The title of the book didn't fit with the story. All around disappointing.
I honestly don't understand why i even read this book.seriously i feel like i wasted precious hours waiting for the book to get better. I can't believe that there are so many books on the series. Solid for me.no
Easy to read, action packed, wonderfully romantic and steamy, an obvious work of love! In “HIGHLANDER WARRIOR,” Rebecca Preston is offering another historical romance to her readers which takes them to a time, place, and passion so compelling that they won’t want to leave. (kinda remarkable since medieval Scotland has no flush toilets, no hot showers, and no tapped or piped clean water! Readers can get a good idea of the basic plotline from the blurb, but what the blurb won’t tell readers is that Preston’s writing is easy to read, and that includes some of the Scottish bur and Celtic phrasing! Additionally, the main characters are rich, well developed and easy to love. However, I do feel compelled to warn readers that this tale, perhaps even more so than in the first tale of this series (another standalone historical romance - “HIGHLANDER FOUND”) has a dark side – portraying the evil that man can inflict on those who are innocent. The good news is that all the novels written by Rebecca Preston I’ve encountered end happily. The joy, suspense, steam, and intrigue of getting there with a complex and compelling plot and characters I loved is only part of the amazing fun of a Rebecca Preston romance. In short, “HIGHLANDER WARRIOR” is swoon-worthy! I received an ARC copy of “HIGHLANDER WARRIOR” to prepare this honest voluntary review and plan to purchase a copy when it goes live! I suggest you do the same with this 5-star highly recommended novel. Happy pages! 😉
I am going to have to end up giving this book a 3.5 ⭐️ rating. I cannot full grasp the reasoning for others to give this book such high ratings, but I did feel as if giving it a mere 3 stars wouldn’t be morally correct.
The plus side to this book was the atmosphere. The castle itself was the main point of where the story took place, but the countryside as well as the lake where important to the whole beauty of the book.
What I had a problem with (SPOILERS) were, the men who thought they were so right and just whilst also being the worst of the bunch. I hope that ‘Lord’ got what he in turn was being suspected of. There was also no justification as to why they put her in the dungeons. They had no proof and there was nothing that she said that would have given them that idea. They were just men, giving the other man claim even where there wasn’t any justifiable proof. This, against women, has been going on for far too long. It is disgraceful, to do all that in the name of God, and calling those falsehoods justifiable enough for such horrendous actions against women.
Anywayyyyy, the swearing in historical Scotland was cute and different. The way that they all met, her and her man, as well as her and her best friend, were something else entirely.
This book was challenging to get through. I was about to stop multiple times but felt as though I had to finish it. The ending was sweet enough to make the rest of the book worth it.
Highlander Warrior by Rebecca Preston is the second book in her Highlander in Time series and while I loved the first book this one was off for me. Maybe it was Lord Cotswold back again and up to old tricks or that it focused solely on his witch hunt. He may be banished but as the Terminator said "I'll be back". Other than that it was a solid 3.9 story for the time travel and love story between Ian and Cora.
Cora Wilcox has missed her BFF Audrina but on her way home from work she has an accident that lands her in Medieval Scotland almost run over by Ian and his horse. When told he's trying to find a midwife Cora offers her services to deliver the babies. After both arrive into the world Cora will need to know the story behind the missing Bellina, midwife and herbalist. But when she's suspected of being Bellina/witch the Inquisitors are called in. Will she be able to convince them she's really just a midwife or will she drown? Can Ian help her survive and will they be able to make a life together?
This was one of the best time-travel romances that I have ever read and I was thoroughly impressed in it. So much that I had to finish it all in one sitting. I found the inquisitors tactics sickening. Talk about abuse of power. That was one of the most horrible displays of abuse of power that I have ever seen in the name of God. The only other period that Rivals it was the Salem witch trials. However, that was the backstory but I really liked Ian and Cora's story because she was a very strong character but I felt that he did not understand her fully. I believe it was because of the difference in time periods.
Every time I try a book advertised as being aimed at Outlander/After Cilmeri fans I am disappointed. Same with this one. It's just not believable. There is no shock/confusion/disbelief when Cora wakes up and finds herself not in the city, but on a road and about to be run down by a horse. She's taken to a castle with no electricity, doesn't ask for gloves, (again, remember she had been in San Francisco) and just jumps right into delivering babies without freaking out about how the new mother is her long-missing friend. I got about halfway through before I gave up.
Another time travel story with Cora that ends up among highlanders. It is well written and the characters are well described and likeable. They develop nicely through the story. It is a story of nice length and it has a nice storyline and plot. I like the unexpected twists and the emotional ups and downs. The mix of romance and drama, danger, lust, secrets and love makes it worth the read. The story is captivating and entertaining. It is an easy read and is true to the timeperiod. I like banter and chemistry between the main characters. Absolutely a story that should be read.
Cora loved her job as a midwife but there were times she felt bad but she trusted in god away. Her best friend had vanished two years ago and she still misses her very much. Now she sitting in a forest with a horse running towards her. Ian the second in command was rushing to find a midwife for the lady of the castle only to come across a woman in the forest saying she was a midwife. Loved the story it is funny in parts but has a very serious side that creates depth to the love story that follows the twist in time.
Heartwarming, sweetly sexy and emotionally thrilling romantic journey that is filled with family love, deeply loyal friendship and exciting magical action.... could not put it down.
Cora is smart, sweet and has been so alone since her best friend disappeared two years ago..... Ian is charming, sexy, strong and on a desperate mission to find help for his Lady MacClaran who is having a difficult birthing... They have a middle of a dark rainy night run in and just like that I am hooked an can't stop reading. Loved it!
Can be read as a stand-alone. You would just be spoiling the first book but like… we kinda already know how it’s going to end so 🤷🏻♀️
I loved the main character. Absolutely one of the strongest female leads. Ian- that man- he raised my standards. I became more likely to die single because of him. Thank you Ian.
Everything was very nice. It just didn’t blow me away. It is an easy read that is quite comfortable. It did wanders for me to get over my reading slump. Alas, it is just a comfort book and I was not hung up on it. That’s why I have given it 4 stars.
Is it possible to like the second book maybe more than the first book? Cora is thrust back in time to help her friend just in the knick of time. Which is also when she happens to run into Ian. Their love grows and has to overcome challenges not only with her time travel but the evils that haunted them before return.
This book was much easier to read as I feel the Scottish writing was toned down a bit making it flow smoothly.
Cora is a midwife still relling with the dessaparence of her friend Audrina, 2 years ago. Somehow she is thrust to a ancient Scotland time where she comes open Ian, second in command, urgently looking for a midwife. And here starts a amazing adventure where she will have to face the inquisition and their horrific tactics. Great read packed with adventure, tension, intrigue, danger and romance. Highly recommended
I am so impressed by the stories by Rebecca Preston. I read the first one and WOW! I couldn't put it down. So I bought the second one and it was the same. Cora is a midwife from the future. She had a best friend, Audrina, who disappeared two years Previously. She was going to a funeral for a miscarried baby when on the way home, she had a car accident and woke up in Scotland in the 1500's.. You need to read this book. On to Book#3!
This is a very enjoyable time travel romance. This well written story entertains and engages you. The book offers a great blend of romance, drama and suspense. Complex character, good chemistry and witty dialog help fill out this pleasurable read. I liked Cora and Ian's romance very much and think you will to. This is my honest, voluntary review.
I read the first book and thought it was okay. This one has the same story line. Found 2 silly mistakes. Extensive description of the roasted pork and in the next sentence "she finished the beef". I'm fairly certain the word "okay" wasn't in the vernacular of the time. Too much violence in the dream sequences.
Lazy unimaginitave writing. The proof reader must have been asleep. Pork turned to beef in one paragraph! If a book is set in the 1400s at least it should be accurate. Tea?! Not seen til 1600s quite happily drunk by all and sundry. No flavour at all of the time. Rushed romance, with graphic sex.
In this very well written time travel romance, Cora is a midwife in the current future. She is transported back in time to help the Laird's wife give birth to twins. After her arrival at the castle she discovers that the Laird's wife is her missing best friend. This adventure just get better and better the more you get into the story. Don't miss reading this one.
Fantastic story. Very well written. Thrilling romance adventure. Vivid scenes and emotions. A truly wonderful read with lots of ups and downs and twists and turns. One thing I can say - am truly happy that I did not live during the middle ages when wicked men ruled and the hunt and punishment for witches was their priority. Highly recommended.
An amazing book. Extremely entertaining, captivating, and interesting read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is a time travel novel about a woman traveling back to 15th century Scotland. It comes with a buff highlander who steals her heart and a beautiful castle. If you like a sweet love story with some scary events, you will like this.
A wonderful back in time Scottish story of Cora And your friend live already gone back in time. Scary inquisition and unbalanced men Make the story interesting and frightening. I love it
This romance was a pleasure and to be introduced to all the characters. The historical portion regarding witchcraft and torturing people was a painful reminder of what happened.
Highland Warrier a Scottish time travel romance, part 2.
Really great read, the storyline was great, and the characters, were so realistic and enjoyable. Nice to meet the characters again from the previous book.
No no a million times no. This is the second book by this author that I have tried and I just cannot finish it. I managed to get to about one third of the way but would rather walk on glass than finish it. Please get a top rate editor; an editor, not a proofreader.
I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this story. I have a profound love for tales of Scottish origins and time travel. Thanks so very much for not disappointing me. I am so looking forward to the next in the series.
I enjoyed the second book in this series, however there was no mention of reference of Colin’ s brother Alistair which to me was a gap in the story. Without any explanation I would have assumed his brother would have been Colin’s tanist.
