Finally, the long-awaited spin-off from the Lost and Found Series!

Aiden Willingham has lived a hard life. As a Navy SEAL, he agreed to take part in an ultra-secret government testing program. The company running the program, the Silverstone Collaborative, has produced a serum from an Amazonian plant that’s been proven to enhance physical abilities and mental fortitude. Problem is, men-- heroes-- have died during the testing, and it’s time for the company to be taken down before more men die needlessly.
Aiden, along with three others, have escaped the camp with evidence of the company’s horrendous practices. Now they’re in a race to expose them. They’ve already lost one of their team, and the Collaborative’s mercenaries are converging.
Angela Holloway knew the homeless man with sadness in his eyes was trouble as soon as she saw him hanging around the site of a murder. Uncooperative, he stonewalls her investigation, but draws her in when the badge comes off. Aiden has scars, both internal and external, that make her heart ache. It’s a serious no-no getting involved with a suspect… too bad her heart isn’t listening. As details come to light about what’s going on in her city, she has to fight for what she believes is right, as well as the man on the wrong side of the law.

Terrific storyline!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💚❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😔🤨😛😁🥰

The Hero: Aiden - he was in the military, a Navy SEAL, and he volunteered to be a participant in the Spartan Project. It was a top-secret project that had delegates from different special forces branches of the military from a bunch of different countries. Their governments gave them away like animals to be used in experiments down in the Brazilian rainforest to create superior humans. The project was funded by a company called The Silverstone Collaborative and now that Aiden and his friends have escaped, they need to figure out how to stay hidden from the Collaborative while they try to take them down.

The heroine: Angela - she is a former Marine and now detective in Colorado. Her first case was that of a large pool of blood found in the alley where many of the homeless hang out. Too much blood for someone to walk away from, but no body was found, and the case went cold. So, when she sees another guy in a black hoodie hanging around that same alley, right where the blood pool had been found, she is suspicious. When he distracts her with a kiss and cuffs her to the fence, her blood starts to boil.

The Story: It has been two years since The Dogs of War escaped from the Amazon. Since then, they had each been doing their own things. Aiden was trying to decrypt one of the thumb drives they took from the research facility. T.J. had two others, Wulfe had been surveilling the headquarters of The Silverstone Collaborative, and Fontana had been distracting the company by going to many of their sites and burglarizing them and getting all up in their security. However, when T.J. came to Colorado to switch thumb drives with Aiden, he was murdered in that alley and Aiden felt tremendous guilt about it.

Aiden had first come to Colorado to possibly meet the brother he had recently discovered he had, but he stayed to protect that same brother and his family after Wulfe’s brother had nearly been kidnapped by the Collaborative. I liked the fact that Aiden was brought up in the foster care system and didn’t even know he had a brother, it gave his character some depth. I also liked the character of Angela, she was definitely a strong female, having been in the marines as an MP and now a detective.

I liked the story and loved the mental powers these guys have. I actually can’t wait for the next book because Fontana seems to have the strongest abilities and has worked on increasing his powers the most. Though I did like Aiden’s character quite a bit. He was obviously suffering from an extreme case of PTSD after all he went through, and Angela was such a strong character that she was perfect for helping him deal with it.

There were some real surprises in this book, I won’t even hint at what they were, but to say that this story wasn’t predictable at all. I really love it when I can be so utterly surprised. I loved all the action and the dangerous situations. There was a lot of suspense and intrigue and though I haven’t read the Lost and Found series, it was definitely easy to pick up the tie ins to that series since this one is a spin-off.

**Disclaimer: Though Aiden started making appearances in titles from the Lost and Found Series, you don't necessarily have to read them, though I do recommend it, before this one. However, the prequel of this series, Genesis, does give you a short but more in depth look into what Aiden and his fellow Dogs of War suffered.**

Aiden was a SEAL to his core, and as such, he was not only recommended but accepted into a specialized program that was supposed to revolutionize the advancement of military personnel. Instead, they were essentially sent to hell wrapped up in a lie. Oh, there were tests - medically, mentally, and so forth - but they were excruciatingly painful. However, he and three others were able to escape. (This is covered in Genesis.)

Since then, the Dogs of War have worked to uncover the truth about the program and reveal the atrocities they suffered, while taking down those responsible. Unfortunately, during their self-appointed mission, they lose one of their own, and it remains unsolved. Aiden refuses to allow that to happen.

Angela, a cop and former Marine herself, agrees. Someone was hurt or killed and the person behind it hasn't been found, neither has the victim. When she's revisiting the scene of the crime, she spots Aiden and something about him piques her interest, both personally and professionally. But things change when she tries to question him about his interests in that particular location because his answers, his mannerisms, don't ring true.

Aiden and Angela are at a crossroads, both somewhat working toward the same goal, but Aiden must keep his past to himself, it's too dangerous to include Angela in his life, even though he wants to more than anything. She makes him feel, in a good way, and he hasn't experienced that in far too long. Those intentions can't hold out against their intense pull toward each other though, and soon Angela has broken a law enforcement no-no by getting involved with a suspect.

Can Aiden and Angela discover what happened to his friend? Is Angela's life now in danger because of her curiosity and connection to Aiden? Will Aiden share what happened to him with Angela? Is a HEA possible?

One-click now and follow along as two people, both with their own struggles, find each other under tragic circumstances and face unspeakable dangers because of it.

I can’t recall the number of iterations of the enhanced super-soldier I’ve gone through, but by now, it’s probably a lot. The conspiracy, the theories, the villainous cold-blooded woman (this pops up too predictably), the tortured men and the paranormal abilities they’ve developed because of the secret testing program…well, I can’t get past those enough, it seems.

‘Chaos’ is another version of these stories, so what really differentiates such stories from one another would then be the quality of the storytelling, which I’ve found myself subconsciously assessing on a personal scale.

As much as I loved the prequel, ‘Chaos’ plunges straight into the meatier side of it, this time with a romance on top of it, as the very sympathetic Aiden Willingham finally gets some due justice alongside a capable woman who does seem perfectly matched for him. Better yet, there aren't the shenanigans of men behaving like growling beasts (both in and out of bed) then given the official excuse thrown out time and again for their inevitable actions.

So, by and large, 'Chaos' is a decent read, but I did think that J.M. Madden’s writing tended to get lost in several loops at times—too much of this, too little of that, but these are clearly my own gripes.

There’s a lot going on in here (sometimes too much I think), which might account for the rambling telling rather than showing: the recounting of past events, the conflicted inner monologues, the ton of information and context that Madden seems desperate to relay to the reader. Like the book’s title, some parts were chaotic though shrouded in mystery, and as a result, slowed the pacing in the first quarter of the book where I’d expected more driving forward momentum.

That said, I’m curious to see how Madden will take this entire narrative arc—I’m eternally grateful that Madden doesn’t deliberately leaving a cackling villain who survives until the very end just to draw out the good-evil conflict—and that black hole of not knowing what will happen next in this case, is a very welcome one.

Wow, I have wanted to know more about Aiden since he was introduced and this book did not disappoint.

Aiden is a person of interest for Angela Halloway and she pursues him when she sees him at the sight where an unsolved murder took place. Well one thing leads to another and trouble/evil is never far behind them.

There is a chemistry there that neither can explain but it pulls them together and it helps to heal Aiden's soul. She also helps him to reconnect with his brother and the guys from LNF. She quickly becomes very important to Aiden and his well being. He becomes as equally important to her as his story unfolds and we learn more about the Silverstone Collaborative and the evil woman pursuing them.

Angela is a remarkable woman and being a former Marine enables her to be strong and resilient in a way that no other woman can be, at least not like any other woman Aiden has known before. She takes no prisoners and earns the respect of Aiden and the others. She kicks ass even though she is walking outside the line of her moral compass. She is a cop and she walks a fine line when evil catches up to Aiden and his friends. She can save herself, and is no damsel in distress. I think that because she is what Aiden needs.

My heart breaks for what Aiden and the others went through and their experiences have taken their toll on them in different ways. I suspect that Fontana went through the worst of it just by his reactions as the story unfolds. Wulfe has a story to tell as well but we got not hint of that in this story.

I waited for this story since I first heard that Aiden's story would be told and Ms. Madden did not disappoint me at all. I loved this story and how she incorporated the LNF guys into the story in a totally believable way. Her characters Wulfe, Fontana and Aiden are strong but also show a vulnerable side that makes them human even after all that they have endured. I was glued to the pages and was left wanting to know more about Wulfe and Fontana and demanding justice for what was done to all of them.

Ms. Madden did justice to Aiden's story in my opinion. Thank you for telling Aiden's story. I loved it.

If you haven't done it yet read the prequel Genesis before reading this one.. The prequel finally gave us the background of the Spartan Project and how Aiden ended up a genetically altered soldier. He has been a character that has shown up here and there through this authors Lost and Found series never really knowing his true identity until the end. The beginning of this book kinda gives lots a previous background but does introduce us to Angela Holloway, a tough former marine who is now a police officer who becomes curious about the mysterious man who she finds at a crime scene and who comes out of nowhere to save her from two thugs.

These two have instant chemistry even though neither wants to acknowledge it for their own personal reasons. Aiden is still a mess mentally from his captivity and the changes that were done to his body. Along with dealing with that, he and the other that men escaped with him with evidence of the testing, torture and killing of many military men are having to stay one step ahead of the Collaborative who want them dead.

Angela plays a big part in getting Aiden to reconnect with his brother and pushes him and the other men to utilize the guys at LNF to help with bringing down the Collaborative. The end up this book sets up the next one and boy does it look to be thrilling one.

I don’t get it. This book has tons of 5 star reviews. Either I’m missing something, or…………let me not finish that thought.

This book is a perfect example of why an author should NEVER be her own editor. It is full of typos, contradictory plot points, words that get repeated in the same paragraph (that should have used synonyms), qualities of one character suddenly applied (accidentally, I have to assume) to a different character, and dialogue so trite and stilted that I really struggled to finish the book. Even the sex is dull.

The plot idea had potential, which Madden succeeded in killing. She really needed someone to read what she wrote, and insert WTF’s at the many places where they belong, so that the mess could have been cleaned up.

Maybe I'm being unfair, as I never read the Lost and Found series, so the history that these characters seem to share has no meaning for me. But I am NOT being unfair about the quality of the writing, which is simply terrible.

Best of both worlds!

When I read that the last LNF book had been written, but there would be spin-offs in the future, I was so sad, because I really loved those guys.
Then I read Genesis, the prequel to this new series, and decided these new guys, The Dogs of War, showed lots of promise as well...
And now, having finished Chaos, I can assure you JM Madden rocks with her new hero(es) and heroine, and I can’t wait until the next book in the series will be released (August).
And those still sad about the end of the LNF series, you can get your Duncan-John-Shannon-and-others fix in Chaos; an excellent mix of both world!

Secret experiments, ruthless mercenaries and three men on the run from both make for a read that will take you on the ride of your life.

Aiden finds himself back in Denver keeping watch over his brother and trying to untangle the web of deceit that is the Collaborative.

Angela meets Aiden while revising the scene of one of her unsolved cases and tries to question him. What follows has the two of them connecting in ways neither expected.

Fast paced, suspenseful storyline with great H/h and secondary characters that will grab you heart and attention. I can’t wait for more books on the Dogs of War.

THE DOGS FIGHT BACK

Si ce Genesis the prequel, JM Madden start a series that is attention catcher. The main characters are build up with a very sensitive "torture" to support the story. You can't choose one of the four that survive.

Angel & Aiden story mix action and attraction. I would've like more about Patricia before her demise. I recommended this Series "The Dogs of War" and ready to read more

Since Aiden showed up in the Lost and Found books we all have been waiting for this book, especially once we knew his connection to John.

Learning just how bad things were for Aiden in the prequel made me super excited to read this one. I wanted him to be able to get vindication against those that hurt him. This book brought about the first steps. At first glance Angela didn't seem like she would be someone who could understand where Aiden was coming from or even help. But as they spend more time together, Angela was perfect for Aiden. She was the voice of calm, the one that helped Aiden realize he needed more help than his friends could offer and he had a great resource in his brother. Angela also managed to give Aiden a great gift in basic acceptance and human touch.

When Aiden came clean to the LNF guys my heart broke for him. To lay out what happened seemed to rock all of them and made them determined to help. While they came up with a plan, I'm not sure yet if it is the strongest one. We will have to read more to see.

The prequel to this, Genesis, hooked me and there was no option but to read the whole series. Chaos is Aiden’s story and a spin-off from the Lost and Found series (that I haven’t yet read but that fact doesn’t detract from the story). A Seal through and through Aiden volunteered to become part of an experimental program to enhance/improve military personnel and his nightmare began. The barbaric experiments on the volunteers and subsequent escape from captivity by the 4 ‘Dogs of War’ is covered in Genesis.
Chaos is set 2 years later and the men have been working tirelessly to find and prove the truth about the program, whilst at the same time trying to stay safe and one step ahead of their pursuers. Sadly one of them has been lost and Aiden looking for answers is back at the scene where he runs into Angela, a cop and former marine also looking for answers into the unsolved case. The two form an instant connection and pull towards each other - they are both working towards the same goal but from seeming poles apart. Aiden has so many secrets and knows how much danger his life involves but Angela soothes his soul in a way he hasn’t felt in years. Inexorably drawn to Aiden, Angela soon finds herself emotionally and physically involved with a suspect.
The weight of AIden’s suffering from what he experienced comes through with such clarity as does his vulnerability but despite all this he is strong and determined and gains strength from Angela. I loved the character of Angela, independent, strong, determined with her own moral compass, her belief in Aiden once established is unwavering.
I loved this story mainly for the characters but also the plot, plenty of action, suspense and intrigue and lots of questions still to be answered and resolved. I have already downloaded volume 2 Fontana’s story and can’t wait!

Wow you have to read this book

Chaos will have the reader from one end of the spectrum to another giving you a look at how this new series will start. I loved it and also how it was able to mesh both the LNF guys and the new Dogs of War series.

Aiden Willingham will also learn how to accept help from a Denver Cop when one of their comrades, TJ, is killed by the Collaborative for the memory stick that they all have and took from the jungle prison. When he meets Angela while trying to see what happened to TJ's body and little does she know that she may be very important to him as well as willing to help them with taking down the Collaborative.

Angela Holloway will realize that the homeless man that she meets at the soup kitchen she volunteers at may have a clue to the unsolved murder that happened recently. But she will also help him when she realizes that John and Aiden are long lost brothers. Can she make him understand that having John and the guys from LNF Agency help decipher what is on each drive and why they are being hunted by the lovely witch Priscilla. But can she convince Aiden to let her in and help him when the Mercs come to get them? There is a surprise in the ending that will have you doing a fist pump, trust me on this because I did one with glee!

I loved Chester the cat who is Angela's housemate especially when Aiden realizes that Angela and Chester are a package deal. He'll have to rethink his traps in his warehouse perhaps? I can't wait for the next book hopefully it will be out soon.

This is the story of Navy SEAL Aiden Willingham. As a SEAL, he had volunteered to be part of a research project supposedly conducted by the government. Unfortunately, the research program turned out to be a nightmare!

Aiden and three other military men who were also involved in this project manage to escape in the first book (Genesis). Unfortunately, since this was considered a military project, they are all labeled as AWOL.

This book takes place several years later. The men have separated and gone into hiding. They assigned themselves different tasks that could advance their goal to uncover this deadly secret. Their plan is to stay clear of the military, since they are AWOL, and to find proof of what is going on in these government-funded camps. Also, they are running from assassins who have been sent to permanently silence them.

In the midst of this, Aiden meets Angela Holloway. She is a former marine, who is now a member of the Denver Police Department. Her background makes her the perfect woman for Aiden. She believes his story about the deadly project and understands what he is trying to do. Therefore, she decides to take a leave of absence from the police, and help Aiden in his quest to find proof about this illegal group.

This book is intense and quite riveting. Once I started reading it, I had trouble putting it down. It is a thriller full of intrigue and adventure.

In order to understand this series, it is necessary to read the books in orde

First let me say I am very excited for this series. After reading Genesis and remembering Aiden in the Lost and Found Series I sincerely want these guys to have their happily ever after.

Aiden is in his brother's hometown, a brother he didn't know he had until recently. His brother John works for Lost and Found as a computer specialist and his wife just had twins. Aiden has been keeping watch over them. Their safety has been his top priority while staying underground out of sight, avoiding the assassins sent to finish him off.

An initial confrontation with Angela, a police officer and former Marine, leaves Aiden feeling things he hasn't felt in a very long time.

Now both Aiden and Angela are more than a little confused about the emotions that encounter stirred. Which leads to them seeking each other out, quite the unusual situation.

Fontana and Wolfe play a part in this book as does, Duncan and John from Lost and Found.

There was fun, laughter, sizzling scenes and plenty of action that will keep you turning the pages.

I can't wait for the next book in this series, but in the meantime I am re-reading LNF to remember Aiden's role in all of them, hopefully it will ease my impatience for the next book.

I think I was on the edge of my seat at least 50% of the time while I was reading this book. Talk about hard hitting, fact paced action, suspense filled intrigue and danger seeming to lurk around every corner! J.M. Madden really amped up this story. While it's not necessary to read Genesis before reading Chaos, I highly recommend it. You will have better insight into what happened to these men and the utter malevolence of the Collaborative.

Aiden Willingham is a man on a mission who lives a tortured lufe because of what he endured in the Amazon jungle. What he didn't count on was running up againt Detective Angela Holliway. She is smart, savvy, cunning and beautiful. How long had it been since he allowed himself to notice a woman? She knows there's something special about Aiden and something just a little off. As they get to know each other events occur that give him no recourse but to reveal his story. Angela sees this man's heart and struggles to understand all that he has suffered in his life. She knows one thing. She's all in. So is Lost and Found once Aiden tells them his story.

This story will grasp your attention from the moment you read the first few lines.
It’s the start of a new series about a group of military men that had volunteered for an experimental project which went wrong . They were able to escape but are now in danger of being killed by the company running the experiments. But hopefully, not before the company is exposed.
One of these men searching answers and wanting to expose Silverstone Collaborative is Aiden Willinghan. A Navy SEAL living under the radar and trying to protect his family. Angela Holloway is the cop that confronts him and whom he later saves. Needless to say, the attraction is immediate but who is this man that seems to be on the wrong side of the law? Will she follow her heart and her believe in doing the right thing, or will she go with what’s expected of her?
An engaging plot with very complex characters , that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
A great start for this new series.
I voluntarily read this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Before reading this book, I strongly suggest you read Genesis (book 0.5 of the Dogs of War Series) to give you the background you'll need for Chaos. Chaos is a book that's impossible to put down once you start it, so clear the decks first. J.M. Madden not only hit a home-run with this book, she slammed one out of the park. Aiden is a former SEAL that went through chemical enhancement, and torture along the way. Angela is a former Marine and now a police detective. Angela and Aiden's story is packed with a stellar cast of characters, drama, humor, steamy sex and edge-of-your-seat action and suspense. I loved every page of this book and was sorry when it ended. I can't wait to read the next book in this series! Chaos is book 1 of the Dogs of War Series. It can be read as a standalone but will be easier to understand if you read Genesis first. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I read a print copy of this book.

Aiden and Angela

I was glad to finally read about Lost and Found, John's mysterious brother Aiden. The prior books in the series did a good job getting up the plot for Aiden's book.

That being said, I was a bit disappointed in the very abrupt "ending"

I realize that the author wanted to set up for other books involving the other Dogs of War, but it was just not a very satisfying ending and now the reader has to wait to purchase the next books.

One part that went a bit off was when Angela agreed to stay with Aiden at the warehouse after they'd had the big gun battle with the bad guys. They'd all gone to get apartment to pack some of her clothes, then on to the Lost and Found office to talk strategy. Afterward, Aiden asks Angela out on a date, drops her off at the apartment and leaves her. Huh?

Aidan finally got his story! This one has been a need to read before it was even written!
Aidan is back and we get to learn about what led him to portray a homeless man in Colorado. Even though we've had glimpses throughout the Lost and Found series, it's still enthralling, heartbreaking, and exciting. Why was Aidan in the back of that truck when he was found in Kansas? What are these contacts he has? What are these enemies he's been trying to take down? Will he trust his brother enough to ask for his help? Better yet, will he trust Angela with his secrets and his heart?
We've seen smaller glimpses of Detective Angela in the series and I'm happy with her character (they almost seem like part of the family after so many books lol) Her background in the Marines, her Police training, her gun history as a young child all come together to make her the perfect partner for Aidan.

As always JM Madden writes an action packed, suspenseful and moving story. Choas is a spin-off series from her Lost and Found series which is another favorite series of mine.

Aiden has been on radar since he slipped into the LNF series and what a beautiful story we get. Aiden has been alone for two years. He’s been a “homeless vet” gathering information for himself for a while. He’s endured what many couldn’t.

Angela Holloway is a Denver PD cop. She ends up with Aiden one day and things change for them both. Sometimes feelings show up when you least expect them too. And it’s so emotional reading their story.

JM Madden can write you a story you are lost in and you don’t come up for air until the very end. She’ll always be a favorite of mine.

Highly recommended.

Chaos

WOW! This is an intriguing story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Aiden is trying to stay hidden from the Collective but Angela gets the drop in him without him realizing it. Once he figures out what to do to get away from her, he starts falling for her. Their paths keep intersecting and when one of the needs get to Angela, Aiden comes to her rescue. Once the 3 guys come together, they are a force to be reckoned with. Towards the end, they face off the evil witch and the one who destroys her is Angela. Now that part of the evil is gone, the guys make a plan to go after the rest of the evil Collective. Aiden and Angela work on their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job J.M.! I would recommend this book.

I had been waiting and hoping for a spin-off of the LNF Series and J.M. Madden brought the heat with the Dogs of War Series. I read the prequel, Genesis, where we meet the new characters and now the 1st book, Chaos, focuses on one of those characters, the mysterious Aiden. Aiden was interwoven in the LNF Series and now we are learning more about him. J.M. knows her characters and by the time you finish this book you will know them too and will become invested in their quest for answers and justice. You don't have to read the LNF series to understand who the characters are. but I am glad that I had because it was fun visiting with them again and seeing where they are now.

Fantastic book! A great culmination of everything that's gone before now, and definitely keeping me hooked for the rest of the books to come! Makes me want to go back and reread all the others! I LOVE how Ms. Madden honors our military and all they go through. My husband's retired Army and my daughter and son-in-law are active duty Air Force, and I'm always amazed and oftentimes shocked at what some "civilians" think of our military - a far cry from military reality! So thanks Ms. Madden for bringing their struggles to light. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to reading Fontana's story!
