Watchmen: Portraits

Rate this book
As the official photographer on the set of Watchmen , Clay Enos was there at every stage of production as director Zack Snyder filmed the adaptation of the legendary graphic novel.

As well as his day-to-day duties making sure there was a visual record of the production, Enos also made time to work on a very special a collection of black-and-white portraits photographs.

From the lead characters, including of course Rorschach, the Comedian, Dr Manhattan, Nite-Owl and all the other Watchmen, to supporting characters and even extras in the crowd, his lens captured them all. With its wealth of exclusive photographs, this stunning book is a unique look into the world of the film.

A great book that captures the costumes of Watchmen. Stars and extras are photographed. This was such a hard movie for me to watch; on the one hand I am glad it was made - on the other hand I think so many elements in the book were not addressed; making this movie a little disappointing. This book would be perfect to take to a convention to get signatures of the actors if they are there!

I love this book. It's nothing page after page of full-sized images in black & white. But best of all, it's fair coverage of the cast and crew. The main stars (the Watchmen) only have about two pages each, while the rest is full of unique faces and costumes of the background characters and selected members of the crew. It's full of character and gorgeous portraits that I love to browse again and again.

The ultimate coffee table art book.

For huge fans of the series, this is a wonderful photography book of all actors and people involved with the movie. Although there are minimal photos of the main cast, it's really cool to see minor characters and extras whom I might not have paid attention to before. Also, an index is provided in the back so you will know who is who!

Just a really wonderful concept for a picture book, I found it completely by accident but I'm very glad to have gotten a glimpse through the wonderful, camera lens and perspective of the amazing Clay Enos!!

This is an excellent book for fans of the movie and the graphic novel! This book is basically just black and white photographs of the cast, and this book isn't sabotaged with main character photos either. I really enjoyed flipping through the pages, the photography is just amazing!

Even if you are not a Watchmen fan this book is great. It feels like a "Best of" Rolling Stone coffee table book. Clay Enos has a great eye.

Just an awesome collection of photos. I bought it to put some on my wall, but it was too beautiful to cut up.

An obvious comparison can be made between these photos and those in Avedon's 1976 "The Family" - how both the Big Names and everyday extras & production staff are all worthy of representation, in a style that equalizes yet always finds the specific, a story in each face and gesture. No one is portrayed as a "type."

Not just a second Avendon, however -- Clay Enos finds worthy pictures in random props, effects gear, and always keeps the sense of being on a set for a story alive.

This is a very special book created by a great portraitist who found himself in a once in a lifetime environment. This is now something of a rare & pricey collector's book, perhaps because the publisher tied it to the movie's brief promotional cycle. That's a pity: a reprint at a student-friendly price would be a fine addition to any aspiring portraitist's library: Pay attention, this is how you do it.

Some lovely portraits of the many colourful major and minor characters from the Watchmen film. However, they don't really leave that deep an impact on me (the large format and amazing clarity of the prints are impressive, got to admit that), although I do desperately want the type of camera Enos uses!
