Where the Magic Happens

Rate this book
In June 2009, Caspar and Nichola created a plan to sail around the world with their young children. Most people thought they were crazy. But over the past seven years they've embraced every moment of this momentous chapter of their lives. Five years of planning - the vision, the values, the practicalities, the realities, the excitement, the highs, the lows and the seemingly adventure-stopping obstacles - led to two wonderful years of living their dream - the magical and the scary, enjoying life and learning as a family. This is Caspar's story. It's a story of a fabulous sailing adventure but it's also so much more than that - it's an inspirational tale for all those wishing they could do the same; it's a practical guide to show you just how you can make it happen; it's a motivational story of leadership and teamwork within a family; and it's a funny, heartwarming tale of slightly unconventional family life. The fascinating narrative of Caspar's story is accompanied by useful text features such as tip boxes, sidebars and chapter summaries, so that the listener can easily extrapolate the necessary nuggets about how they can make the dream a reality.

I thoroughly enjoyed Where the Magic Happens, for various reasons. * I read the actual hardcopy book, not the audio book!

When I met Caspar, as a keynote speaker at the PSASA convention, I heard a bit about their story-
of sailing around the world with 3 kids. He spoke about how they mapped out their values, and showed us the paintings and drawings that they made. He told us how things went wrong in the ocean, and how they could fall back on their values. He is an incredible speaker!

I loved the book for the sake of setting a "crazy dream", visualizing it, and following through on it.This book is for you, if you need to get motivated and get out of your "rutt"-and imagine a new destiny for your life. Everyone doesn't have to sail around the world, but everyone does need to have a plan, a strategy and work for it. This book is great on a Leadership, team level, family values and for the Travelling enthusiast.

I particularly loved the Gratitude checklist and after seeing their entire adventure, how they had to slot back into society. So often people plan for the "high" and don't realise-life doesn't end there, they also need to figure out the next step.

Thank you Caspar for taking me on your journey with you, I look forward to finding photo's of the many small islands and places that so few people have the privilege of visiting

I have no desire to sail around the world with my family, but I enjoyed reading about their trip.
