"fluid." is a collection of poetry about going and growing through changes. I believe everyone should understand that we all go through things in life, it's all about how we react and recover from them. If you've felt as though you didn't have a voice in a situation, or you weren't sure if you'd get through it "fluid." may be the book for you.
There was a variety of topics discussed (self-worth, race, rape, love, etc.) Some of the poems lacked clever wording. All-in-all, it was a raw collection but "Find Her. Keep Her." is still my favorite by far.
Best quotes:
"I don't want to master the art of not caring. I want the people I welcome in to stop letting me down".
"Expecting someone to come around and bulldoze your walls down without putting in work yourself is pointless".
"I am the only one that should be expected to accept myself".
somebody understands! somebody understands having friendships and love where it's all one sided and you're letting the other person treat you like crap because you don't believe there's better out there. somebody put it in writing. in poetry. somebody understands how I've felt for years. my first love was like that. my friendships throughout my childhood were like that.
this sounds like me, this book. this beautiful book sounds like me and it's the best, most wonderful feeling. 5 of 5 stars. it deserves more but this website won't let me.
There were some really awesome pieces in this one! But it was a little chilly set time and the fluidity of page to page was a little bit lacking ( no pun intended here either)
I first stumbled upon Renaada Williams at the library. Another one of her books, Becoming, was on display and I picked it up, thinking nothing of it. I adore her work. The emotion, the fluidity of her words, the way she uses punctuation - I don't know how to describe it other than to say I see her in her work. It is personal, it is wrenching, and it is felt. I've read fluid. multiple times now and I cannot help but be struck every time by how vulnerable her writing is. By how present it is. People say that the best literature should be able to exist outside of time, that is the feeling I get whenever I read her works.
I cannot help but be in awe of her and her willingness to put her soul on display.
I feel like the poetry about one sided love failed to stand out compared to countless other poetry collections telling the same story. However, I think there's an important message about rape and racial inequality to be told in a lot of the other poems, which I really enjoyed. 3/5 Stars - A good read with an important message but needs a little more individuality. Well done!
I loved the passages individually, still such beautiful writing just like "becoming." But as a whole didn't flow as much as her previous collection of poetry. I still loved "fluid." It said sooo many right things, everything I think of; only written down. Again, can't wait for more!
Beautifully written. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the short poems. I loved the ones from a black person in America’s point of view. Definitely worth the read.
5 stars for this book. Its full of beauty blossoming from painful situations. Its inspirational hands down and I highly recommend it to all poem fans, and fans of true love and equality.
Wonderful book of poetry with keen insight on womanhood, love, race, and struggles of life ! I bookmarked and read some poems multiple times… I can’t wait to grab the author’s other works and devour them as well!
I loved the straightforward simplicity of this book. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends and family. Looking forward to more books to come.
There is hope, even in pain. That's what I felt when reading this. Thank you Renaada. I didn't agree with everything you said but that's probably because I wasn't ready yet.
I loved this collection so much!! I do think that the arrangement of the poems could have been a little better and sections should have been included like they have in other poetry collections, this one would have benefited from that I think. But I absolutely loved literally all of the poems in here
