Centuries ago, Brax committed unforgivable sins, killing his lover and himself, and to escape eternal damnation, he made a bargain with the Devil. Now immortal, he roams the earth, corrupting and collecting souls for Hell’s infernal legions in anticipation of the coming apocalypse. And he is very, very good at what he does.
When he is given the special assignment of corrupting Maggie Westbrook, a seemingly timid high school senior who also happens to be one of the Nephilim, children of angels with the purest of mortal souls, Brax believes his goal of commanding his own legion in Hell’s army is finally within his reach. Maggie isn’t just any Nephilim; she’s the lamb who will break the seals that will usher in Armageddon, and her corruption will tip the scales of that final battle towards Hell.
But he quickly finds that the job will be more difficult than he first anticipated. For one thing, he has competition in the form of the demon Corbin Black, whose powers of corruption rival his own. And Maggie is not unguarded, as the Nephilim and host of Heaven will do everything they can to stop him. Most disconcerting, though, is Maggie herself. From the moment Brax first sees her, he is drawn to her purity and innocence, and as he comes to know her, long-forgotten emotions begin to rise within him, emotions he hasn’t felt for centuries…
While Testimony is an epic story of good and evil battling for control of an innocent soul, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance, it’s also the more personal story of a deeply flawed man trying as hard as he can to overcome the devastating sins of his past and find true love and redemption.
This book contains mature themes, violence, drug use, drinking, and sexual situations. Reader discretion is advised.

So Testimony of the Damned was mostly enjoyable. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the writing at all and my overall investment in this particular story was more a case of it's me, not you. I am not sure why I struggled slightly with this I just did. There is nothing I could actually pinpoint with this I just wasn't quite feeling it at times. This had everything here that usually does it for me but this time it just didn't for some unknown reason. I did prefer the second half of this much more than the first which I found a tad slow going. I also thought that this was a trifle lengthy and long-winded: maybe that was why I struggled somewhat I just felt that this took the scenic route which was a bit of a trek. I also don't think I am invested enough to do this all over again but from Maggies POV this time add in the cliffhanger and I'm out. Look plenty loved this book and it really was a great concept. I also did enjoy this somewhat It was after all excellently written just not totally my bag.
Wait, that’s a lie. I’m not even a man anymore. Signing away my eternity to the Devil kind of erased what makes me human. Corrupting and collecting souls is my job now. The perks are good—fun, sin, highs, sex, and climbing the demonic ranks of the lower kingdom.
Now, I’m only one soul away from becoming a crowned prince of hell. My goal for the past four centuries. The one soul I’m assigned to corrupt is Nephilim-born Maggie Westbrook—a shy, beautiful seventeen-year-old who has no idea who or what she is.
Easy as sin, right?
Wrong. She turns my world upside down and tears down walls I’ve been erecting for centuries, leaving me raw, exposed, and feeling—feeling things I didn’t even know I was capable of feeling. Ever again.
How can I get the only thing I’ve ever wanted without hurting her?
I am not a good man. It’s important that I repeat that. I am the demon Abraxas Shepherd. And this is my Testimony of the Damned.
This book was a wonderful dark paranormal. Forbidden love and soul taking takes part. This book is not for the faint of heart but it is for readers who are looking for a new twist on paranormal and dark fantasy. This book is also for ones willing to accept that from darkness light can emerge.
I really liked this book, because it really shows just how much love can change things, and it also shows how darkness can't always be evil when it comes to learning that there is more to life then one may think. This book also really brings to light that one always has a choice and though some wrong choices are made you just might be able to find some semblance of redemption.
This book is one of those books that just kept me reading because of the Romance and the fact that in the book someone loved another so much that they started to change their ways. Not only that but you have Demons, Nephilim, and angels.
One girl stands in the balance, one girl who must choose her own fate by free will; Maggie has a rough life but also has no idea what she is, and even though she doesn't know it she will be tested to choose a side. She doesn't know it yet but she will be tested by having more than one demon on her trail, and if she fails in what she must do her soul could be at stake.
This book was unpredictable, beautifully written and totally worth my time. I can't wait for book two!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
I usually try to keep my reviews sorta 'professional', whatever that means.
But this book has shaken me so much, that I just can't do that. I'm still wiping my eyes, that's how heartwrenching this book was!
This is the first book I've read by K.G. Reuss, and I'm so glad that I'm a part of her review team!
I hope I'll get to read the second book soon, I just can't wait!
I do realize that I've mentioned absolutely nothing about what exactly was so awesome about the book, but there's not a particular thing that made this book special. It's the whole package. So go on and read it, I'm pretty sure you won't regret it!
This book is a wonderful dark paranormal romance that has forbidden love and has souls that are taken.. this book will show you that through darkness the light is at the end and will keep you a float.. this book isn’t for the people that don’t like the twisted darkness that is a fantastic paranormal fantasy.. I’ve found a amazing author Ann’s just love the writing style that draws you in from the beginning and keeps you flowing through out the book...
He is not a good man, make that no longer a man as he is a demon and he is just one soul away from becoming a Prince of hell. The soul needed is one he may not be able to take as he begins to feel things for her he had not for centuries. Can he take her soul? Can be feel love again? See what will happen
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Writing such emotional stories should be forbiden! I need book 2! Brax - the demon that corrupted a lot of souls in his life as emissary of the devil. He lived that kind of life for a few centuries. Now he is send to bring the purest ofvthe purest to the Hell. She's captivating to him. Will he bring her soul to devil? What had happen in his past? Was every sin unforgiveable? Magdalena - just like in the Bible is the sign of possible redemption by being pure. She is innocent, but she doesn't know who she is and who is Brax. She is just trying to dance with the devil. Will she manage to decline him? And what is going on with her parents? I really enjoyed this story!
The cover, which is stunning, is the only reason I one clicked this book. I didn't even read the blurb lol. Admittedly I have an obsession for that couple on the cover. But on to the book.
Testimony of the Damn was this deliciously dark paranormal romance that sated my thirst for the kind of PNR I've been searching for. The story is told entirely by Brax, my new favorite demon, and it was oddly refreshing to read a single POV romance. And from the males POV to boot which was even more refreshing. From the start you see these small glimpses of good in him even if he doesn't want to see it himself. The story is made even more delicious by his genuine pull (fascination? Obsession?) with the literally pure holy, Maggie Westbrook. She's only supposed to be a job but without knowing it she becomes far more than the job she's supposed to be to give Brax all he's ever desired.
Because at the root of it all, it's her he desires most of all. We spend most of the book watching him try, in every way he can, to resist the desire. Convinced he can keep her as the job she's supposed to be. I loved being inside his head and seeing his thought process. And the author does an amazing job showing it. Brax comes across as your typical male alpha on the outside, and on the inside with his inner thought process but he's also, and my favorite kind, an alpha with the ability to be gentle, romantic and sweet.
And Maggie, while she comes across as the doormat we all hate in romance novels, has this undercurrent of strength that's enduring. She's special but doesn't know it. She has faith and strength in her beliefs. I found myself loving her when I almost thought I might hate her but loved her.
The chemistry is thick between Brax and Maggie and I was rooting hard for evil to collide with good. Cheering for Brax to be the man I knew he could be while battling his own inner demons to stay the man he believed himself to be.
The only complaint I had was in the writing it itself, while very good, the overuse of adverbs was obscene and somewhat distracting. But the story was enough to keep me reading. I couldn't put it down. I will say this though, it is not a HEA or even a HFA since it ends in more of a cliffhanger fashion but it's more than clear that there's more to the story. So it's far from over and I hope (I HOPE) we get the HEA these two will more than deserve. So go into it knowing that. The ending was still, oddly, satisfying because it worked with the build of the story.
WOW!!! This was another book I was definitely not expecting. Intense, dark, light, beautiful, hard etc. Definitely a wide variety, when it came to feelings and emotions and the type of story it was. How it would jump from dark to light, intense to soft, heartbreaking to happy. This book hit me in a way, that others haven’t. There were definitely triggers in this, and while I don’t have any issues to any triggers. Something about the story just hit me, which I didn’t expect.
Brax aka Abraxas Shepherd is a demon, who does the bidding for the devil. When he is given the opportunity to fulfill his dream by the devil, in favour of one final job. He is all in. However what he expected to be an easy job, turns into something else completely. That something being Maggie.
Life is definitely not easy for Brax. Trying to do the devil’s bidding, while trying to decipher/control his emotions for Maggie is hard enough as it is. But throwing in a nephilim and demon enemy. What could possibly go wrong?! A lot and I mean a crap load.
Mags aka Maggie Westbrook seems like an all American girl next door. Pretty girl, with the looks and personality of a sweet innocent teen. But there is more to than meets the eye, and for Maggie it’s hidden behind closed doors.
All the twists and turns, the suspense in not knowing what would happen next or is happening behind the scenes/in between the lines. My heart was racing in dread and fear at times because of the suspense. Holy hell! I mean I shouldn’t be surprised it was written by the Queen of Cliffy, Suspense, Heartbreak and Torture K.G. Reuss. But yet I always still am, she definitely knows how to throw you for a loop and Testimony of the Damned is a testament to that.
Another amazing story from K.G. Reuss that had me falling in love with the main character Brax (no surprise there) and wanting more from him and for him. Even with the darkness, it was well and truly beautifully written. Definitely can’t wait to see what happens next. I haven’t stress this enough, but K.G. Reuss and all her books are a MUST READ!!! This book is definitely a testament to it! So go CHECK IT OUT NOW!!!
The conflict of Constantine intertwined with a Romeo and Juliet style love! Abraxas Shepherd, Brax, is a suicide who serves the devil and is one soul away from becoming a crown prince of the Lower Kingdom (Hell). The devil charges him with collecting the soul of Maggie Westbrook, the sacrificial lamb that can open the seals beginning the Apocalypse. The devil wants eight souls, the lamb and her seven trumpeters. But none more so than the purest soul, the lamb, Maggie. Maggie has an abusive step dad. Most Nephilim emanate feelings of calm and peace, but Maggie emanates feelings of fear, sadness and despair. This throws Brax off and makes him more curious and eventually concerned for her. Brax struggles with his need to complete his duty and take Maggie back to the Lower Kingdom and his want to protect her keeping her for himself. Brax teams up with Lance, a Nephilim, to protect Maggie from Corbin Black, Brax’s brother. Brax walks a thin line between completing his demonic duties and protecting the girl he loves, Maggie. Told from Brax’s point of view, Reuss develops a romance between the sides of good and evil. Both Brax and Maggie struggle with their inner desires. They bend the rules for the salvation of each other’s souls. I loved that the story is told through a demon’s point of view. Reuss was able to descriptively show the inner struggle that Brax faced when confronted with his feelings for Maggie. The plot was easy to follow and enjoyable to read. I had issues with high school aged characters living a college style life. Going to clubs and drinking are not something most high school aged people do where I grew up, a one-horse-buggy style town. So, this I had a hard time believing, although I guess it is more prevalent in large cities where entertainment options are more widely available.
- angels & demons - star crossed lovers - chosen one - magical politics - it's not you, it's me
📖 My Thoughts
this was a solid good book. it has a strong plot with characters who feel real. i really enjoyed this story and the characters we me. Maggie is such a sweet character with a tragic story. her story really tickled my very dark reading heart. it did what i needed to do, give me a tragic, broken fmc and watch her bloom. I am very excited for book two...even though i want to hold off for the series to be complete however i am too eager to know what happens next. the cliffhanger is this novel is pretty strong so it's kind of hard to resist not continuing the story.
our mmc was sinfully, delicious. something about a 400 year old morally grey demon just caters to a girls heart. our fmc is honestly living one of my fantasies and i love that for her. not to mention, he was ready to kill for her, YES KING!! i too would've thrown some coochie at him.
anyway, the next book is calling my name and i know I'll be done with it within hours of starting it.
⚠️ Triggers
yes, there are triggers. child abuse, spousal abuse, drugs, violence. this book is dark so there may be more that i am missing.
but for those of you who are like i can handle abuse and murder but i draw the line at cheating. you'll pleased to know at the very least there is no outright cheating

🌶️ Spice
she threw coochie at him and sinned, we love an fmc who crosses to the dark side.
📝 Special Notes
this boo was good, I'll be rereading it and buying the book after i have moved and set my library up.
In K. G. Reuss's new series "Emissary of the Devil", the main theme is a tale as old as times, the ongoing battle between Heaven and Hell. Brax is a high ranking demon, Magda is an earth angel. His task is to corrupt her soul and bring her to Hell, to start the Apocalypse. But even in his darkest soul there is light and Magda's heavenly goodness infiltrates his soul. Will she save him? Will he be redeemed or will he end in the worst pits of Hell?
"Testimony of the damned" is written from Brax's POV. With her unique writing style K.G. Reuss captures Brax's internal struggle, Magda's hardships as well as the relationship dynamics between not only Brax and Magda, but of the secondary characters of the story as well. Extremely well written, with attention to detail, especially as far as Brax's emotions are concerned and well developed characters, the book was an emotional roller coaster. There are plenty of twists and turns that had me at the edge of my seat. The book ends in a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next book from Magda's POV.
Warning: This is not a book for the faint at heart. It's angsty, dark and deals with issues that a lot of readers might find disturbing. If you're okay with that, go ahead and grab it.
This book was very good. I usually prefer my heroines to be more, well bad@$$ for lack of a better word. Maggie was very much the opposite of that. She was a stereotype half angel, super pure and innocent. She did have her sarcastic moments and she was overall a great character. She got more bold as the book and her relationship with Brax progressed. The opposite happened with Brax. He’s a demon and he started out a piece of crap honestly. A hot, cool piece of crap but a piece of crap nonetheless. Throughout his time with Maggie he starts to get better and doesn’t want to hurt people even though it makes him physically ill not to. I feel really bad for Brax and how he ended up in h3ll. I feel the same for Corbin, I feel like they were both tricked by Eliza and they shouldn’t have ended up there. Ugh most of these demons suck. I mean they are demons so 🤷🏻♀️. That cliffhanger was awful and I’m getting ready to jump into the second book. I really hope Brax and Corbin somehow work together against Eliza in hell and become friends - that’s kind of a stretch I vies but I hope they get to the point where they can at least stand each other and not hate each other.
Got this book for honest review. I love it! It was delight to read. I love read books about paranormal story of any kind. Abraxes is evil in every type you could imagine. Until he met Maggie a very sweet angel she is. She showed him love, happiness, laugh, and ect. She showed him good. He wasn't think bad anymore. Happy that he was happy. This story had me off my feet. Every page, every chapter I was reading I wanted more and more. It had me on a Rollercoaster. I finish this awesome read in 2 days only. It was so good that I couldn't put it down for one minute. If I did I felt like am missing something. It had right into the book. I felt like i was in the story myself. If only I was able to jump right into it. I love me some sexy paranormal romance. I highly recommend everybody read this book. IF you love paranormal story this is right there for you. I can't wait for her next book. Bring it on! 💖💖💖💖
It's my first book by K.G. Reuss, and I loved it! Testimony of the Damned, is the first book in the Emissary of the Devil. And let me tell you, I can't wait for the next book!!
The demon Brax, has a job to do. He has to collect enough souls to be crowned Prince of Hell! Now, how wouldn't want that crown? "I lifted my head and stared into the face of evil."
And it's going very well, he is almost on the finish line. All he has to do now is find and corrupt children of angels, Nephilim. Then he meets Maggie Westbrook, the shy and innocent girl. But oh so beautiful. Such a delightful light and pure soul! But nothing really is what it says it is.
"I would fight for your soul."
Reuss has created an awesome world. (A world that's very believable.)And a interesting plot. With new twists all over.
I thank the author for providing a copy to voluntarily review.
I have become a big fan of K.G. Reuss’s I enjoy her stories immensely and this story Testimony of the Damned is no exception. Brax is a demon he takes souls to the devil he is trying to climb the ranks in the Underworld for a better status, he is told by the devil to go and claim a pure soul and Brax has no problem with that. In steps Maggie she is just a 17 year old girl or so she thinks until she meets the demon Brax, he knows what Maggie is and he has been sent to collect her soul but Maggie has different ideas about that. Maggie shows Brax a different way of life how to love and laugh and now Brax is falling for Maggie but will he take her soul to the devil?. Wow this is such an amazing read and I can’t wait to start on book 2 which I will be after this review. A 5 plus +++++ ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
Wow this was intense! KG Reuss sure knows how to write! My emotions were all over the place. I actually cried! This book is about a demon, Brax, who isn't looking for redemption, but he sure gets it. There are some heavy and dark themes, he does horrible things, but they make his rise so much better. Maggie is a young girl who is abused by her stepfather and she has no idea she is part angel. These two fall in love, but they have so many things working against them. I kept thinking there is no way Brax can get out of his deal with the devil, there is no way for them to be together long term. I hope I'm wrong There is action, despair, heartache, and so much love! I did not see that twist with Eliza being who she was before Brax was a demon. I can't wait to see what happens! The cliffhanger is a biggy so beware. It's sooo good!
Powerful and emotional. Brax has been a demon working for Satan for four hundred years. He has been sent to corrupt Maggie and bring her soul to Hell. Maggie is already living a hellish life. Her mom is a drunk and her stepfather beats both Maggie and her mom. Maggie has a goal. To get good grades, earn a scholarship, and get out of her situation. In spite of her circumstances Maggie is beautiful, loving, and kind. Through Maggie’s love Brax starts changing. He is getting a heart. But other supernatural beings want Maggie. Another demon wants to corrupt her and a Nephilim has been watching over her for quite a while. Who will claim Maggie’s soul? And can Maggie to save Brax? I loved Maggie and grew to love Brax. He was becoming caring and more human the more he was with Maggie. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review
This story starts off with the main character, Brax, doing something very bad. He's a demon and has been given the quest to bring an earth angel to hell to start a war between good and evil. Little did he know, that angel would bring him to his knees in every way possible. I loved this story and the authors way of writing makes it feel so real, like it's all playing out right in front of you. She is descriptive and so imaginative. Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down, which is usually the case with K.G. Reuss' books. The author has a way of pulling the reader into the story and not letting them go until the story is finished, leaving you needing so much more. This book should be added to your TBR list NOW!!!
This is the first book so have read by this author and I will most definitely be coming back for more. I was so absorbed in this story right from the offset.
A supernatural natural story of love, war and friendship I found myself invested in all the main characters and worried for their outcomes. A true page turner which each chapter ramping up the adrenaline until the ending, at which point my head was spinning it was so good.
This book touches in real life issues in a realistic and sympathetic way that elicits many emotions from the reader but is required to make the story dark and light.
Written in an easy first person style from Brax's point of view this book is easy to read and draws you into the imaginary world. A must read, especially now as book 2 is due for release soon.
Absolutely awesome. I am a sucker for everything paranormal but this was something else. As an emissary of the devil, Abraxas often shows us how dark and twisted he is. Using and torturing vunerable people in to taking their lives to feed his own.
That was until sweet Angel Maggie came into his life and made him doubt everything he thought he knew. All he ever knew was to be the horrid, vile, nasty creature he was. But Maggie shown him there was more to it than that. She shown him peace, acceptance and love and these are the most powerful feelings a demon would ever know.
Absolutely mind blown! An excellent plot and very unique. Loved it!
I loved this book! It gave me all the feels, and the story is so descriptive from the very beginning. The characters all have substance, and you fall in love with all of them throughout the book. The story flowed nicely and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time! Its one of those books that you have a hard time putting down! K.G. Reuss is an incredible author, that I am just now learning about as this is the first book I have read by her. But I plan on reading so many more and I cannot wait to find out what is going to happen with this story! I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
I just got done reading this book and WOW!! This is the height of emotional roller coaster. It is a love story, yes, but it is so much more than that. Brax is a high level demon who has sworn to collect souls for the Devil. He wants to command his own legion and He's only 8 souls away. Summoned to hell, he is told he needs to collect these last souls, but 1 in particular. Brax is as evil as they come, and Maggie is the purest form of innocence. He cannot help but fall in love and want to protect her. Unfortunately, the Devil also sent Brax's brother Corbin after these souls. Its now a race against time and Hell.
This book was one emotional read. If you into dark and heavy emotional books then this is the one for you. This is the story of Brax who is the emissary for the Devil himself. He has been working his way up the ranks for the last few decades by bringing the devil soals. He has one last soal to bring the devil and it happens to be Maggies. The problem is that she draws him in and makes him second guess everything about his entire existence.
I can not wait to read the next book in this series I am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see how things end.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Brax is no longer human and his job is to corrupt and collect souls for the devil. His latest assignment is to turn young innocent Maggie Westbrook. If he succeeds, he becomes the crowned prince of hell.
This book will suck you in from the first chapter. It is captivating, spine-tingling, and rich with a phenomenal multidimensional writing style. The author has a way of pulling you in, getting you invested into the storyline as it unfolds, and leaving you wanting more. If for one cannot wait to read the next book in this new series.

This is a captivating story . In the beginning it feels like it's just about good overcoming evil but it becomes so very much more. KGet had me on the hook from the first few pages til the last words and definitely left me wanting more. I know some people hate a cliffhanger but in truth isn't that really what we love in a a good Story? A book that leaves me wanting more is the best kind of read. And while I wait for book two iwil, imagine all the places KG will take us on our next journey. I do hope she hurries though. Loved this book!
Wow, Mrs. Reuss is a new to me author but I loved, loved, loved reading this book, it sucked me in and made me want to finish Brax and Maggie's story to see if they would be able to be together even with all their differences. But the ending truly surprised me because I thought they would end up together. Thank you so much Mrs. Reuss for letting me read your book, and I can't wait to read the second book in this series to find out if Brax and Maggie will finally be able to be together!
What a riveting read this book turned out to be. I loved the characters. The interaction between them was wonderful. He started out thinking this was going to be so easy but Maggie has this way about her that he just can't seem to do what he set out to do. Brax is a great flawed character and it was nice to see him develop as a character over the course of the book. I read book two first (sorry!) because I loved the blurb and couldn't wait to see what happened. Now I'll probably read it again after this to get the full effect.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Testimony of the Damned (Emissary of the Devil Book 1) by K.G. Reuss is a New Adult, General Fantasy, Paranormal Romance. Brax isn't a human anymore. His job now is corrupting and collecting souls. Maggie Westbrook a shy, beautiful seventeen-year-old is his latest assignment and one soul away from becoming a crowned prince of hell. She'll end up turning his world upside down. A fantastic, emotional read. A wonderful start to a new series!
It is no surprise to me at how much I enjoyed reading this book as the author is a favorite of mine. Brax and Magda's story is the beginning of a new exciting series. Of a demon tasked with corrupting an innocent soul and collecting it for his Devil of a master. But ends up falling in love her. The book ends in a little cliffhanger that left me feeling so blue. But not for long as the next book is waiting for me to read!
