Wayne Dyers dybe indsigter lever videre i hans tekster.
Wayne Walter Dyer was an American self-help author and a motivational speaker. Dyer earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy, a Master’s degree in Psychology and an Ed.D. in Guidance and Counseling at Wayne State University in 1970. Early in his career, he worked as a high school guidance counselor, and went on to run a successful private therapy practice. He became a popular professor of counselor education at St. John's University, where he was approached by a literary agent to put his ideas into book form. The result was his first book, Your Erroneous Zones (1976), one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 100 million copies sold. This launched Dyer's career as a motivational speaker and self-help author, during which he published 20 more best-selling books and produced a number of popular specials for PBS. Influenced by thinkers such as Abraham H. Maslow and Albert Ellis, Dyer's early work focused on psychological themes such as motivation, self actualization and assertiveness. By the 1990s, the focus of his work had shifted to spirituality. Inspired by Swami Muktananda and New Thought, he promoted themes such as the "power of intention," collaborated with alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra on a number of projects, and was a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
I do not know how I got this book. I think it was with free credit on Kindle. No idea.
This is basically the equivalent of a daily devotional, but with quotes from Wayne Dyer. They are collected throughout his career, from being mildly thought provoking, to tumblr-esque levels of faux- “deep,” to spiritual talk which sounds like the author may have been mentally ill.
I cannot recommend this as some things in here designed to be “self-help,” are entirely dangerous in many contexts.
Great daily reading book with highlights of Wayne Dyer's career of teaching and learning. I would have given it a 5 star rating, but the copy limit is strict and I was unable to copy any choice quotes to my journal after March or so.
Great daily meditations Here are 365 meditations put together after Wayne Dyer croaked as Abraham puts it! Each meditation are put in the same format Wayne would have used had he been alive when this book was published. Not having read, heard and seen everything Wayne wrote he could have written these himself. I get from going through this book it's exactly how Wayne would have done it. Wayne made each meditation simple and profound. Having just finished Radical Acceptance I found a deeper meaning to each meditation. Go through them one each day or more than one. It's up to you as I don't subscribe to the theory that there is a right or wrong way to do something.
About third of it was okay. Rest was way too spiritual for my taste. All of it seems so passive, as if it is not the same Wayne Dyer I've enjoyed in Pulling Your Own Strings
If it weren't for this easy-to-read, calendar-style format, I don't think I'd ever finish it.
This book caught my eye one day while I was wandering around a small book store. It turned out to be my favorite daily ritual - and exactly what I needed.
"thought-provoking" doesn't capture the magnitude of the wisdom in this book. "mind-altering" truly feels more apt. there is a year's worth of profound meditations distilled into accessible daily nuggets, the application of which can revolutionize you for a lifetime, if you allow it.
a couple things kept this book from being five stars for me: 1. a lot of emphasis on spirituality and God and the Tao and divinity and whatnot, so the discourse centered on those topics did not engage me as much. and 2. noticed a lot of repetition throughout this book. As one example, there were probably four or five different days spent rephrasing that forgiveness is an act of self-love. And yes i'm sure it's difficult to come up with 365 unique pieces of wisdom, but then there's offenses like back-to-back pages saying "it's the space between the notes that makes the music" so it's like come on, at least spread them out so it's less obvious that you're recycling thoughts.
nonetheless, lots to glean from this book, thinking about tearing out all the pages i dog-eared and somehow consolidating them in an aesthetically-pleasing way. could be a fun creative project.
Interesting mix of implications ranging from “law of attraction” pseudoscience, Taoist philosophy, and changing genetics. There are some sporadic basic truths, “conflict cannot survive without your participation”, ok, that seem more in line with a daily mediation type book, but they’re far outweighed by the others.
I am admittedly biased against this style of book, yet somehow this found its way onto my bookshelf. I originally grouped it in with other spirituality / 12 step auxiliary literature, since those have a way of appearing in my possession. However I do not believe that’s fitting, nor is this book for me.
While I appreciate the idea behind putting together a daily book of this type--and Dr. Dyer literally has a lifetime's worth of learning to offer--this is a pretty weak book.
