I’ve always felt like I don’t belong, like the people who walk amongst me are merely figments of my imagination. Fading. Always fading. When a psychic confirms my suspicions, there’s only one appropriate reaction…to laugh. Loud and boisterous, like a wolf howling at the moon. Because what could be more ridiculous than being told I’m a queen? That I have 4 Viking warriors desperate for my return? That an entire kingdom will go up in flames and down in ash without my help? That a sister I have no recollection of is the one responsible?
Psychics aren’t to be believed. They’re all smokes and mirrors, that much I’ve always known. But what if she’s the exception to the rule? What if she’s right? Those are all logical questions, of course.
The problem is, she could be wrong.
Viking Queen is a reverse harem romance novel suitable for readers over eighteen.
Wasn’t too bad. A few wrong words or missing words (see/sea for example). I thought it would have more sexual content in it, but there is barely any in it. Will read the next one. Also, I would have liked the read the conversations as they happened, not being told about them and then getting a piece of the convo to read, if that makes sense.
Rose knows how to craft a spell binding story. It hurts my brain to think how she seamlessly puts these words together to form a stunning work of art. It’s beautiful and timeless. You feel humbled to be allowed into her world by allowing her to tell you a story that was poured from her heart onto a page.
Hmmm....what to say....this is my first read from this author. I was captivated by the gorgeous cover. I read the blurb, some teaser chapters, and I was so excited to read it! I enjoyed this book. Sometimes the characters frustrated me but in a good way because that means I wanted them to succeed.
What I liked: The characters. The men, yummy. I liked Rhea, she was a solid heroine. I would like to see more of their story, I would like to see them grow.
What I didn't like: Not much, but, I think the our heroine, Rhea, should've talked to her father. This was something that I expected.
TSTL doesn’t really describe Rhea but she’s still not the brightest bulb 💡 in the box either...
The first five or soo chapters are spent showing us,how Rhea ( she goes mainly by fake names because “Rhea”is supposedly too “powerful “ to be used ) ( ooooookay) ( only Rhea’s I’ve ever heard of were in comedy one played a character on “Cheers” back in the day and the other one I believe had as a last name played one of Sabrina’s aunts on “Sabrina the teenage witch” )(soo yeah, too powerful),as she cons gullible ppl daily in her life as a fake medium... Gotta say this was soo not endearing her to me AT ALL,Rhea is a very cynical lil beyotch ( how can you not call her than when she spends her days scamming vulnerable ppl) with absolutely no world building, your left to guess where she is as she floats along in life seeming w/no real cares,or friends or relatives ( nine in her live a first) pets or acquaintances or anything, just a proverbial stone rolling along gathering NO moss at all... ( btw I’m guessing the story starts somewhere in either England or the general U.K. area because the use of terms like VAT ( the tax taken on food and other items there usually purchased at store, A levels (usually a series of exams taken after what I believe would be High School in the U.S. before going to University ( the term collage being different over there ) and the term “High Street” ( kinda like saying “main street” here in a town here in the U.S.) I knew these terms from living in England once for a while... other wise I’d have been lost... but NO real world building either here in “our world” even less once she’s back her “world”....
A witch who sounds like a kindly old gypsy woman ( caravan etc.) finally shows up ( why now ? Rhea supposedly got pushed here and born again but no parents no age no nothing is cold nothing about her life other than that she’s never felt like she fits in) to tell Rhea about herself ,but having spent her life for who knows how long just lying and conning ppl she is skeptical to say the least.... well skepticism make sense for what she’s told, Rhea so is this weird blend of cynical and skeptical and yet lazy naïve.... She’s told about her evil sister, the men, her kingdom everything and then she runs off for two weeks to continue her lie of a life seemingly unsure as to what to do... I honestly was unsure as to why I was continuing, hope dies hard ;( Anyway, that’s how most of the story flows,Rhea running /floating along once she returns to the past or where ever she is ( NO REAL WORLD BUILDING) and mainly just wanders around waiting and hoping around the fringes of things ,*deep sigh* for 75-80% of the book just waiting for the answer to fall from the sky and tell her what she should to... There is no real passion her except once or twice when she comes up with lame reasons just to be near them/touch them But it’s at least 80% thru the book before they come together .. And when the do it’s as pathetic and passionless as I expected... “But then he takes me in his arms, and there is no holding back. I have always sensed the animal in Karsi, and the animal emerges powerfully now. His kisses -all over my body -are hungry with the longing of a lifetime. Every touch of his great rough hands seems to demand more of my body, as if he needs to see and feel for himself the reality that his queen has returned and is truly with him. We kiss for what seems like hours, devouring each other. The anticipattion is incredible -I know that when we finally come together as lovers it will consummate my true power as queen, and although I am longing for it I am also afraid. Karsi seems to sense my fear, but does not defer to it. Instead he leads me closer and closer, until I am right on the edge of claiming my power for the final time and I have no idea what happens next, no idea how to do anything but scream his name and beg him to give me the thing that I need. And he does. Again and again, and my power is complete. Afterwards we lie on that mossy bank together, side by side. I inhale the salt of his body and know a contentment unlike anything I have ever felt before in my whole life. I know that nothing can ever stop me again.” Her last guy Elrik ““Yes dróttning,” he says, and takes me in his arms. It is impossible to describe our coupling. In one sense I command the whole thing, yet I do not need to say a word to him. Every touch, every caress, every kiss and sigh and gentle flick of the tongue is exactly as my heart commands it, yet from the outside it might seem that Eirik was in control of the whole thing. But not really. He spends the night doing his duty by his queen.” The middle two don’t get this much of a mention, Awful, hated it, lacked any real growth and development....
Rhea is a medium. She has the look mastered, she's created the proper atmosphere, she listens and tells her customers what they want and need to hear. It's not real. But when Rhea visits a new psychic in town to scope out the competition, she has to wonder. This woman, Ysulte knows who she is, how she feels and tells her things about herself that seem true deep in her heart. Rhea has always felt like she didn’t belong in her own life. She's haunted by dreams of a sister. She sometimes glimpses four men who seem important. This woman knows and she and she has answers. When Rhea decides to believe Ysulte, a whole other world, another time, another life are opened to her. A life more real than she's ever known, full of love and danger.
Viking Queen is a Reverse Harem based on a classic fight for the throne with a major twist. A jealous sister, dark magic, time dimensions. It all adds up to an entertaining read. Rhea was a worthy lead female. She had a steep learning curve; total unawareness to leader in a matter of days. Each lesson was a major event. The Harem was handled in an original way. She knew who they were to her but not having them at her side for stretches of the book helped develop her character better. Each setback built suspense and fear; the rebuffs she faced nearly killed me. I was firmly in her corner. The fight against her sister, Shar was handled perfectly. I assumed the outcome but I was never able to figure out how it would be achieved. I was on edge until the very end. Johan, Haki, Karsi, and Eikik were all pure manly perfection. Powerful, blond godlike Viking men. Yummy!!
I look forward to more of the Dróttning and her four warriors. I look forward to more time together focusing on repairing the kingdom and deepening their relationship. I would love some POVs from the warriors. I'm also hoping for a cover that is more fitting for the book. Not that it has any impact on the quality of the writing or the entertainment value of the read but this cover didn't do justice to the story. I would have much preferred the characters to be portrayed in the clothing and setting that was so nicely described.
I do love the story, but the author needs someone to edit better. As an unpublished writer myself, there is power in letting someone fix the mistakes that spellcheck and grammarcheck don't. It is the little things like "see" when it should be "sea". These tiny mistakes add up and distract the reader. But the story... Wow. The time the author has put into dreaming up the world is evident in all the tiny details. Again, the tiny details add up - this time into a world full of promise. This is a world the reader can fully embrace. The characters could have used a little more building... Perhaps a little more time spent with the protagonist and her men would have served to build further tension. However, it is not my place, in this case, to try to suggest anything - a book is much like a painting or a sonata, you can't tell an artist (or author) what to write. If you are wondering if you should read this, I would certainly say, "why haven't you yet?!?" Read it! Amazing story.
Such potential. The first, like, 30 pages of this book had me grippped. I was invested, in it to win it, beyond cheering Rhea on. But then things got too tidy. But before they got too tidy, however, there was a brief period in there where the author lost me, then found me, then lost me again. It's almost as if Ms. Rose knew she was confusing her audience with her writing, so she tried to unscramble her mess. But she unscrambled her mess too well, so then I got bored because everything became predictable and turned out too well.
Furthermore, I didn't love the warriors. I wasn't convinced, and plus, all blond-haired individuals? Another yawn. I know they're supposed to be vikings, but come on. Have some diversity in at least their hair color.
All of these trivial things only added up to make what could have been an excellent book only so-so at best. The beginning had amazing potential - I was thoroughly spooked, enthralled, and excited at the same time. But then the author lost her edge and I found myself reading yet another mediocre concoction.
A fight between two sisters for a throne, with four very sexy Viking men helping along the way, what more could you want? I am so glad I read Viking Queen by Savannah Rose. It's one of those page turners that keep you guessing right the way through. An amazing array of twists and turns, but not in a lose your mind kind of way.
The storyline, though following that of an RH, featured more about Rhea (our MFC) than the men. This is great, as I have been finding that in most RH these days we see no character build for the MFC as she is always surrounded by men who dote on her every word. This allowed Rhea to fight, tooth and nail, to get what she wanted and she never gave up or cried about how tough it was. Another element that I loved about this book is that we have the inclusion of a "fairy godmother" type in the sage Ysulte (that's pronounced izz-old-uh) who helps our MFC grow and encourages her to find the wisdom and courage she already holds within her.
The story is nice, but had some major gaps that leave you feeling like you've missed something. Whoever edited the book did a very poor job as there are grammatical errors everywhere. There are other big errors to, that confused and bothered me while reading this. In one scene she was talking about the four warriors, but then would say "his" instead of "their". Example: His eyes looked at me, instead of their eyes looked at me. Just things that annoy you when reading it. Also, she keeps describing people as wearing skin pants. Lol, this makes me envision something from Hannibal Lector. Deer hide pants, or pants made from a soft hide. Not skin pants. Lol. All in all it felt like the author doesn't have much experience writing and definitely needs a better editor.
I liked this book. It started out with some great world building and lead up-much better than I usually expect with reverse harems. It was a short read, and the heat level ended up being much lower than I expected. That would have been okay except this great promise that the first few chapters have me with the character and world development just sort of...flatlined. For five stars, I would either need heat level expectations met or writing quality and plot expectations exceeded. There was potential for better differentiation between the four men but it was never realized. It did NOT end in a cliffhanger so I was grateful for that. I'll check out the second book.
The story is so good. The plot is interesting and new. Rhea, is the real queen, who banished in far away time by her own sister, Shar, so that she could take everything away from her, especially her throne. But Rhea is in for a fight to have everything back in its place, especially to have her warriors by her side. Though I like the story, the plot, and the romance... I still feel that it's lacking somethings... But it's still a good read anyway. It is well written and doesn't feel to rushed. 😊
Where is the romance? Where are the bed scenes? All is written in a after thought...
"We all sleep on the royal bed that night, me and my four warriors. In the mess of bodies it’s easy to forget whose mouth is whose, and I kiss them all until I feel like I’ve worn my lips out."
What? Was this all? Did i skipp a page by accident? Hope This was all there was about a bed scene with 4 warriors... Pff paranormal romance right!
I thought it was an enjoyable book. The story was solely Rhea's point of view and all she went through to get back her kingdom. I wished there were more scenes of Rhea with her warriors because i didn't feel any sort of connection to them and why she loved them.
The story starts out a little slow but if you push through it you'll be in for the ride of your life. Once the story grabs you, it doesn't let go. Good story. If you like sexy Viking men, magic, time travel, and war then this book is for you. Don't hesitate.....just get it!
Not bad for a shorter story. It's hard to fit everything into one book if its going to be a stand alone. If your in the mood to read and not get into a series thos is perfect
The storyline has great potential, but I didn't feel any true connection to the characters. Further character development and a more detailed story would make this an excellent read. The spelling errors were sometimes difficult to read past as well.
I did find it difficult to connect with MC I didn't feel her back and forth time travel adventures had much....tension? Which ironically worked out well for me because time travel scenarios can be frustrating. It was ok. I don't regret reading it I just wouldn't read more of this series.
I really liked the story line entirely. It was really good. But the only thing i felt was that since its a reverse harem we would have expected some steamy sessions for which i reduced a star. Other than that I felt it really good.
I enjoyed the story and the romance. The romance is not over the top it is very simple. It took me a day to read and I look forward to the second book.
This book hooked me from the 1st chapter, but when the story changed direction (trying to stop Shar) I found myself speed reading just to finish the book.
