I've appreciated the Shinkanzen Master series for what it's done for me so far, but this book for the Reading section of the exam is far and away my favorite.
Reading is my best test area and I'll be leaning on it heavily to make up on the points I know are a long shot in Grammar/Vocab and Listening. This book is tightly focused on prepping for the JLPT N1 exam - it's not interested in digressing into interesting readings to broaden your mind, it wants you, exam taker, to know the shape of what's coming.
The book is divided in three main sections: Critiques, Commentary, Essays, etc.; Advertisements, Notices, Instructions, etc.; and Implementation Practice. The first two sections cover the all of the different types of readings that appear on the exam, what sorts of questions are asked, and strategies for finding those answers in the text. There's typically an example reading with explanation of the strategy, plus 3-4 additional readings with one question each to practice. The Implementation Practice section goes over these forms again, but using the actual exam format, with multiple questions per reading.
At the end of the book there's an exam's worth of questions if you want to set up a timer and do a practice run. The included answer booklet has the correct answers and explanations for every answer, though your mileage may vary: quite of a few of the "explanations" are "this option was mentioned no where in the text, doofus."
100% in Japanese, no English/Chinese/Korean translation. I don't usually comment on a book's physical qualities, but this thing is hefty; the paper is delightful for taking notes on and it'll hold itself open while you're reading. A joy of a study guide. (Can I say that?)
