The Underground #1

Something Fierce

Rate this book
His profession is brutal, savage. Violent.

And it turns her on.

When Tristan got a new roommate in the form of a six-foot-three tattooed and pierced beast of a man, she wasn’t prepared for the instant lust that claimed her. She should have made sure this stayed strictly platonic in nature, but it seemed Kash might have other plans in mind.

The attraction was magnetic and powerful. It was undeniable, no matter how hard they fought it.

When she stumbled upon an underground cage fight, the last person she expected to see was Kash, bloody and bruised and destroying his opponent. She should have run the other way, but instead, she found herself aroused and wanting him even more.

Kash was a fighter and a damn good one at that. He’s stayed away from relationships and focused on his craft.

And it’s worked out well for him … until now.

He didn’t mean to get involved with his new roommate, but the curvy little brunette had every possessive instinct in him rising. From the moment he saw her, he was obsessed.

But those well-thought-out intentions are a thing of the past.

Now that he has Tristan, he’s not letting her go.

Warning: If you’re used to Jenika’s insta-love dirty books, you’re still getting it with this one. It has a HEA and features a totally obsessed hero who only wants one woman. Previously published under the same title, this story has been extensively reworked, new content has been added, and it has been re-edited.

Ok, this book never got put on my currently reading shelf.

It wasn't because I forgot, or it wasn't good enough for it.

Nope.

See, I bought the book, started reading it, and--three hours later--you get my point right?

This book was SO HOT!

I don't want to just say that because then I would be putting down the writing skills of the author. I'm not a really big fan of fighting, boxing, wrestling, or anything in that genre of sports. I see books when that theme and kind of run in the other direction.

Then there are books with men so rugged and raw--just by the blurb I know I will love the holy living daylights out of them! That is how Kash came into my life.

Oh, Kash!

Poor, destroyed, sexy man beast, Kash.

The moment he comes on to the scene we are inside Tristan's head. I love that because we get her totally clumsy and awkward reactions to this beast of a man that she just wants to fall into.

The chemistry was instant.

They just really liked each other and you could tell. The tension was so hot I was yelling at my Kindle at 2AM for Kash to get over himself and just DO IT ALREADY!

The writing had a great rise and fall so it wasn't too much chaos going on at once. It was paced perfectly!

What does this mean?

It means I need to read the rest of the books in this series!

Judging the book solely by the cover it falls flat, just doesn't give the book any justice at all..And I'm all for eye candy on a cover!!

Loved this book, ticked all the boxes, hot guy, strong female character, cage fighting, action, romance what more could I ask for!!

Something Fierce was a fun and sexy fighter story. There was a little bit of insta-lust and insta-love happening but it hit the spot like only a fighter book can. Tristan and Kash were sexy and passionate. There really wasn't much conflict in this series but really was a fun and sexy alpha growly fighter book. 4 stars! ~Ratula

This started off pretty good. Tristan's roommate moves out unexpected. They were fuck buddies. After weeks of interviewing possible roommates she comes up empty. Her best-friends boyfriend just so happens to have a friend moving to town needing a place to live.
In comes the sexy, tattooed, mysterious and quiet Kash. He works at night so Tristan hardly sees him. She has no clue what he does for a job. Hello??? Anyway I let that slide and kept reading....ok maybe because I was drooling a little too! Haha!
Then one night he comes home with a bloody shirt on but only has a small mark on his face. She knows it's not his blood. He still refuses to tell her what he does. Hello?? THEN when she finally sees him at work she gets horny but disgusted with herself for being horny. Lmao The sex...well...he has muscles, tattoos and yep a cock piercing. So bring on more drooling after I read that. lol Where was I? Oh yea...I might of lost count how many orgasms she had and how many chapters the first time they had sex was. Holy Shit!!! Honestly the details during sex was all I felt we got. They were good details too! Lmao! I couldn't tell you what Tristan does for a living or if she got pregnant because he shot his seed in her. And not the time he shot it in her ass. I know she didn't get prego from that one. Haha! Yes...no condoms. Yes...she voiced a little worry in her mind. No...I never heard any more.
You guessed it! I was not feeling the love and the ending felt rushed. I felt things were left unanswered. Maybe in the next one? Who knows. The 3 Stars are for making me drool:-)

When I say a book is a classic rape trope, this is what I mean.

Tristan needs a new roommate ASAP since her last one bailed without notice. Her BFF knows someone who just moved to town, bada bing, bada boom, Kash moves in. It's insta-lust for both of 'em, but neither are willing to act on that because of the living together dilemma. When Tristan is roofied at a party and nearly raped, Kash is there to save the day. HERO!!! The two grow close, but still just friends. Then Tristan ends up at a club where she discovers Kash is actually a cage fighter. She judges him, they fuck, they start ignoring each other due to the awkwardness, she goes to see him fight again, she's nearly raped again, and Kash saves her again for a final HEA.

It's a pretty stereotypical fic. Nothing to be impressed by. Sex wasn't that great, either.

AUDIO: It's just ok. Take it or leave it.

Tristan just found out that her roommate is leaving without giving her any notice, so with her house payment due Tristan knows she needs to find a new room mate soon. When her friend tells her that her boyfriends long time friend is moving to town and looking for a place Tristan knows she has finally found her new room mate. Then Tristan meets him, Kash is frightening, he's huge, he has tattoos everywhere, and he's huge(yes I said that twice). But as Tristan gets to know Kash she see's there is more under the surface and that Kash is hiding behind his big wall.

There's an instant attraction both Tristan and Kash feel for one another but both try to fight it, till one night at a party a guy try's to hurt Tristan and Kash comes to her rescue. Now Kash and Tristan see that they are not only attracted to each other but that they care about the other, but Kash has had a hard life and he's hiding not only his past from Tristan but what he does for a living. When Tristan finds out she has to decide if the Kash she thought she knew is the real Kash or if this new Kash is the true Kash. As Tristan and Kash continue to grow closer Kash's beliefs about himself threaten to keep Tristan and Kash apart. It soon becomes clear that they will both have to decide if they should move on or risk it all for each other.

I loved this book Kash was hot, possessive, strong, powerful, fierce and protective. He was a great hero that was easy to love. I flew through this book because it was so good. I wish it was longer so we could have went deeper into Kash's past and more in depth into Kash and Tristan's future but even with that said this was a great book. Jenika Snow did a great job and is a fantastic author, I've never read her books before but I will be checking out her other books in the future. I love that this is a series with different main characters in each book, and we meet the hero and heroine for book two in this book. I also loved that this book in in both Kash and Tristan's point of view. This is one of those books that I overlooked for a while and then I found again, and I'm so lad I did.

A bit darker than I usually read. This wasn't a happy book. I could feel Kash's anguish through the whole book. I am glad he had Tristan to help him out of the darkness. At least we got a celibate hero!

This book seemed longer than Jenika’s usual style and that’s not a complaint, this is definitely one of my favourite books from this author but in saying that I have never not loved one of her books.

Tristan arrives home earlier than she would normally to discover her roommate packing up a van and moving out, with no notice just before the rent is due. Stuck with finding the full rent she needs a new roommate as soon as possible. Her best friend suggests Kash. The chemistry between them is instant, Kash is reluctant to starts anything romantic for so long his life has revolved around violence and he doesn’t want to taint her with his past, so they build a friendship that is until Tristan is attacked and they end up exploring their attraction to each other.

Kash’s main focus for years has been his career in fighting and meeting Tristan changes something within him, he wants more from life than moving on to the next town to fight, but he struggles with doubt that he is good enough for Tristan and could he really have the happiness and love that she offers him. But once Tristan is in danger again there is nothing that is going to keep him away from protecting what is his….

Highly enjoyable read with all you could want.

Tristans's roommate is moving out. Not a big deal as he's pretty useless in regards to holding up his share of the agreement, however, he's doing so without any notice and right before rent is due. Jerk. Thankfully, shortly after that her best friend, Kylie, informs her that Jayson, her boyfriend's friend, is moving to town and needs a place. Kylie assures her Kash is trustworthy and a good guy. When they meet, Tristan is instantly attracted...

...and the feeling is mutual. Kash just needs a place for a while until it's time to move on again. His focus is, and has been for years, his fighting. He has no time for anything else, but Tristan is the first woman to make him question that resolve in a very long time. Kash, though his feelings for Tristan grow every day, believes he's not good enough for her, that his past broke something in him, hence, his need for violence.

Kash and Tristan build a solid friendship, though both want so much more, and try to adhere to the unspoken rules of keeping it that way. But when Tristan is assaulted and Kash saves her, things change. And do again when Tristan accidentally stumbles upon what Kash does for a living. But instead of being disgusted or scared like both assumed, she's turned on.

While Kash and Tristan adjust to this new dynamic, and finally begin exploring their intense chemistry, he continues to struggle with his doubts about the happiness they could have. Not in himself, per se, but as to if he can give Tristan what she deserves.

But as they're unable to stay apart, and danger once again comes calling for Tristan, Kash realizes she's meant to be his and nothing will stand in their way of being together, not even himself.

Can Kash accept that Tristan loves him as he is? Can Tristan convince Kash he's exactly who she wants? What happens when Tristan is in danger? Can Kash rescue her once again? Is a HEA possible?

One-click now and follow along as two people are thrown together due to circumstances and discover a love that can't be defeated. This is a safe book, for those concerned. Kash has been celibate for years and it's implied Tristan has as well, though for how long it wasn't said. There is no om/ow drama (nor scenes) at all. I'm curious about the next story, Adrian's, as we get a small glimpse of the setup for his. I hope it's safe as well.

**I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.**

I enjoyed this book so much!!! The sexual tension between Tristan and Kash was hawwttt the mystery of what Kash did for work.. and how protective he was of his girl even if he did take a step back also he wasn't a manwhore!! score!!!!  He was also rough, growly and one heck of alpha!!

But once she found out what he did.. the tension went UPPPP!! But so did the Angst.. Kash poor baby Kash.. what a crappy life he had and thats why he thought he wasn't good enough for Tristan..I'm glad she over looked that and wanted him.. even when he pushed her away..

Low angst, non-virgin gal and celibate guy, no ow but a creepy asshole stalker tried to sexual assult Tristan twice, drama, no cheating and i believe we got our secondary chara for book 2 plus Other charas..

Tristan's useless roommate is moving out so she needs someone quickly to move in and help pay the bills. Her best friend suggest Kash and before long he's living with her. The attraction is instant but Kash doesn't think he's good enough for her. He has a very dark past with an abusive childhood and fighting is all he knows. Can Tristan show him that her love can save him? This book was a page turner. I can't wait for the next book!!!

Ok

An ok story where a girl names Tristan and a guy named Kash end up living together. We dont know what she does for work, but he is an underground cage fighter. She finds this out when she is out with friends at a bar and stumbles into a doorway to the basement where the fights are held. I think the story would've been better but it didn't flow very well and seemed very choppy.

The impossibly physical restrictions on some of the sex scenes put me off, Just because it works in a porno doesn’t make it real which kicked me out of the story a bit, but it was very hot.

This is my favourite read from this author. Longer than my usual reads from her but I binged it one session. I absolutely LOVED Kash - the damaged Alpha and Tristan the beautiful, brave girl who heals him. Plenty of action, serious HEAT & real emotions. I couldn't read this one fast enough & looking forward to more in this series. HIGHLY RECOMMEND !!

I enjoyed this book on many levels but it frustrated me because it could have been excellent if it shook off the constraints of limit page length and needing be more erotica than erotic romance.

The characters are really compelling, however, what we get of them is very limited. I can't recall her job exactly nor much about her family background. The hero we get hints that he may have been very abused but we never find out. This is book is like a low budget film in some ways where it shoots great fights scenes since the hero is an underground fighter, a bar, and the house that they share as roommates while he is in town fighting the circuit. And thats it.

What I have is good but I would have liked more. I will be checking out the rest of the series as the writing is good and reminds me a bit of Cara McKenna in After Hours.

From the very first page, I was hooked. Tristin is a normal girl, with the same feelings and thoughts of any woman trying to find love. Kash is the true definition of dangerous. He radiates a bad boy persona, and would draw any woman’s attention. His hidden profession adds more heat to his already orgasmic character. I am a huge fan of what he does, and the excitement brought my blood to boiling point. Every detail of this story was amazing. I was sucked into the story, and lived and felt every emotion. There was a perfect balance of action and romance, and sizzling hot love scenes. I can’t wait for the next of the series! This is a must read for everyone!

Style: Romance
Story: 3/5
Sexual: GOOD
Enjoyment: 2/5
Series: Book 1

Not impressed with this one. Honestly I read the 3rd book in the series and loved it. However, if I read this book first I wouldn’t have read it. It was not bad I just didn’t like the pace of the story as it lost my interest after a while. Not sure if I will read book 2.

I should note, Tristan was very sexy, I love his character and his dangerous appeal but it wasn’t enough to keep me interested.

***I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s definitely about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the stories you read. I hope this review was helpful.

Ok. I had a very difficult time finishing this book. The female lead was too stupid to live. I couldn't believe any logical sane woman who has lived like her would actually behave the way she did. I wanted to slap her and choke her. I mean come on, she was to supposed to actually have some character. You know backbone. She reminded me too much of a child. Who looks at the world through pink glasses. The sex was hot though. The only redeeming quality of the book. Granted the male lead was uber hot but he was an ass.

3.5 stars.

Mostly because I don't really like how Kash his himself and how his insecurities shows. Sure it's good to read insecure hero once in a while, but I ended up wanting to slap Kash and made him realize that his occupation doesn't matter.

But overall I enjoyed it. The hot scene is okay, very Jenika Snow-y. :)

Tristan needs a roommate fast. Her last one was a world class douchebag and her finances are running dangerously low. Her best friend, Kylie has an idea that might solve two problems with one solution. Kylie's boyfriend knows a guy that needs a place quickly. Since she's not having any luck finding a suitable one on her own, the decision is made. After he moves in, she fights an increasing awareness of him. It's one sided though because he's completely unaffected by her.

Kash moves in easily enough, but he keeps to himself. He works nights and rarely interacts with her because of it. He sleeps most days so their schedules tend to keep them apart. He also keeps himself separate from her because he's fighting an instant attraction to her. He won't let her close. He feels he isn't good enough for her.

When Tristan is assaulted, Kash becomes possessive and protective. He needs to stand guard for her against the evil of the world. She is too pure, too innocent, too perfect. He promises to always be there and means it. He, and their mutual friends, begin to look for her attacker.

In the meantime, she makes a discovery about him that explains his late nights and sleeping pattern. The way she finds out was a bit odd and felt forced but I continued to read. He eventually explains much more but you have to read the book to find out.

The relationship between them isn't instalove. It builds slowly over time because they both deny, even to themselves, that they are attracted to each other. So the friendship happens first through once a week movie nights at home. It was very sweet and felt realistic.

The premise is utterly believable what with rent and mortgage rates. The flow? This was a very easy book to read. The pages turned almost too quickly. There was seamless continuity throughout. The ending actually made me laugh out loud in the best way.

The sex was sweet and spicy, but unfortunately not panty melting. He's a bit dominating without being a Dom. She's naturally submissive. There was was no bondage or other hints at BDSM. It was just sweet, almost vanilla sex with no immature acrobatics or inane pillow talk. Just a word of warning though for those of you that pay attention to this sort of thing. There is never a mention of condom use. I know that's a hard limit for many of you so it's worth mentioning.

As for the technical aspects of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and word usage... It needs some work. Early on, I found examples of dropped periods. It was easy to overlook those. Then I saw words smashed together that I've never seen used ie. crammed packed. I've seen crammed. I've seen packed. I've even seen jam packed. But this was first for crammed packed. I don't know if it's a regional thing but it drew me out of the story. I continued to find errors. I won't list them all.

Can I recommend this book? Yes. It was a flirty, fun, breezy read.
