When Page Darrow attends a job interview, he fully intends to turn any offer down. He believes his days of offering close protection are firmly over, only his curiosity makes him attend. Once there, however, he learns of the operations of a company, A.R. Solutions, who provides various and unusual services for energy companies. One of these is Megan, a strange and introverted young woman with psychic abilities. Megan believes she has located a great energy source within an abandoned house set on a country estate. It is here that she has convinced the owners to focus their attention, an energy the owners are keen to harness. Page's curiosity will lead him to a house that only Megan is allowed to enter, a house with a dark secret, a house with untold power which holds the real reason Page was brought there. It's a story of energy and the horrors that live in us all.
I finally got around to reading Megan, author Travis Little's debut horror novel, and damn it was worth the wait. Not wanting to give the plot twists away, I will keep this brief by saying that readers will be seriously creeped out and possibly left a little unhinged by the quite terrifying storyline. A must-read book and I hope to read more from this author in the future, assuming my mind hasn't snapped first!
I loved this creepy, intriguing story that was impossible to put down. Megan is a well-rounded, well thought out character - and just a little bit scary. The tension builds throughout the book and the final chapters are filled with excitement - I could see this being made into a film. A great story indeed.
Travis Little’s book, Megan, is a rocking adventure masquerading as a “horror novel.” I have no problem with the horror genre, but Megan has so many great elements to it that separates it from the traditional horror story.
First, Megan is a mystery. Who is the titular character and how did she end up a central figure in a multinational corporation’s efforts to chart the best places to locate oil around the world and under the sea? How too did she end up at a decaying estate in the English countryside with the top officials of this corporation? And what secret project are the co-founders of the A.R. Solutions Corporation up to now? Also of interest is “protection specialist” Page Darrow, a personally selected bodyguard brought to the Ravenscroft Estate under duress to ensure Megan’s safety, though what threat there may be is kept under wraps from him.
A cast of great characters, all fully realized, add intrigue, romance, and a dramatic backdrop to the proceedings. These supporting players all have their own reasons for being at Ravenscroft and the relationships that Little weaves amongst them are as entertaining and as important to the larger action as the actual secrets which lie within the walls of the estate’s main house.
There are definitely horrific elements to Megan, and the character herself can be downright scary. She is written as someone who appears to suffer from either a severe personality disorder or a serious mental illness, but as the story flies forward, it is obvious that there are much deeper reasons for her acting as she does. Her seeming “supernatural” gifts as well as her position as an indentured captive of the A.R. Solutions Corporation make her struggle to unravel the situations at Ravenscroft a very real need if she is to ever find peace of mind or her freedom.
It is virtually impossible to reveal the grand plot of Megan as it unfolds in layers too good to be spoiled. Just know that Megan is a delicious page-turner you will enjoy beyond the last page.
I have just finished this book, and I must say I have had a lot of fun reading it. The writer seems to be a fan of James Herbert. Being a fan of Herbert myself I set about reading this book with some excitement. The story its self revolves around a strange young woman by the name of Megan, who seemingly possesses supernatural gifts, she has been employed by a corporation to locate new sources of energy. In this plot detail the story reminds me a little of the James Herbert novel, Sepulcher, but make no mistake this is its own tale. The plot deals with Megan, and her assigned body guard, Page Darrow, as they investigate a strange house in the English countryside. The building not only seems to be a spirit trap, but it also has the ability to connect with different points in time, all in all the book was a fun read, with great characters, and gripping scenes
