A footloose painter and a deeply rooted mechanic share an instant attraction, but these opposites will both need to bend for love to have a chance. Repainting historic murals at Peacock Hill will pad Azure Hewitt’s bank account and allow her to drift where the wind takes her. If only the group of friends working at the old mansion weren’t so welcoming. Their immediate acceptance and inclusion reinforces one of the downsides of her footloose life. Add in the local car buff and mechanic? Putting down roots could almost be attractive. The more Matt Patterson’s uncle pushes him to take over the family auto shop, the less Matt’s sure he wants to stay where he’s planted…but even as he contemplates spreading his wings, he can’t imagine a life like Azure’s with no fixed address. Even so, he’s positive a settled life isn’t something she sees in her future. With Azure’s project nearing completion and Matt’s uncle anxious for a decision, neither is sure where God is calling them to be. But if their hearts are aligned to His desire, surely their love will have a chance. Get your copy of A Heart Realigned today! USA Today bestselling author Elizabeth Maddrey is a semi-reformed computer geek and homeschooling mother of two who lives in the suburbs of Washington D.C. When she isn’t writing, Elizabeth is a voracious consumer of books. She loves to write about Christians who struggle through their lives, dealing with sin and receiving God’s grace on their way to their own romantic happily ever after.
I haven't read too many books featuring a main character who lives on the road. Permanently. It's an interesting idea, but to this very grounded person, it also seems kind of scary and unstable. I liked reading about how the heroine lived that way; it wasn't labourious or overly detailed but rather gave just enough of an idea for me to be intrigued. The romance wasn't entirely convincing, but it was sweet and without any OP drama. I appreciated the clean content and the message about seeking God's will.
Really enjoyed this novel in the Peacock Hill series - but for whatever reason, I'd skipped this particular book in the collection (I've read all the rest). So when I started reading Maddrey's next series called Hope Ranch (set in New Mexico) and there was a reference to Azure's romantic connection to one of the gang in Virginia (where Peacock Hill is set), it didn't ring a bell. All that to say, I finally read this book featuring Azure (a wandering artist who surprisingly finds love and stability when she was least expecting it) and am now caught up on all the siblings and friends and their happily ever after stories.
If you are looking for a wonderfully developed, interconnected world and cast of characters that you can dive into and enjoy for quite some time, Maddrey has over 25 books in 4 or 5 different series that fits that bill. Recommended for Christian romance readers but also those who enjoy clean and inspirational romance with scriptural themes.
I absolutely loved this book! There is a group of friends who meet at Peacock Hill every Friday night and I thought the author was spot-on in how she portrayed this group of Christian young adults. I really enjoyed their interaction throughout the book. In addition to the storyline that I didn't want to put down, I liked the strong spiritual content.
I wasn't sure what to expect in Azure who lived in a camper and painted pictures for a living. I liked her! I appreciated that she stayed true to herself, but grew in who she was throughout the book. I thought the author was creative in naming her after a color...and naming her brother after a color, too.
Matt was a character who was very easy to cheer for. His parents died when he was young so he was raised by his aunt and uncle. He's intrigued by Azure as soon as he meets her and I liked how he was very responsible in how he approached his relationship with her. Matt is also struggling with a decision about his future and I liked how he made the decision he felt God was calling him to even though it might jeopardize where his friendship with Azure might go.
This is the third book in Elizabeth Maddrey's Peacock Hill Romance series, however it reads just fine as a stand-alone book. I am very much looking forward to reading book four! I highly recommend this book if you like contemporary Christian fiction.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Azure is a free spirit so to speak, in that she has no home base and lives out of a trailer. Matt is the small town mechanic wondering if there is something better out there. Azure was hired by Deidre to do the murals and painting detail work on Peacock Hill. Another wonderful story that pulls you right in with this story focusing on Matt, but still including our favorite group of friends, and adding Azure and a few others to the story from her life. Hard to put down, and as seems to be common with this author when I read her books is that I end up reading them one right after another and not come up for air until they are all done. Likeable characters with enough drama to keep one’s attention but not so much to necessitate a break from reading. Looking forward for whatever is planned ahead with this series, and hoping we get to see a couple of the minor main characters that haven’t had their story yet.
Was a pretty good story until Matt started acting like a jerk which he never saw or addressed. His “my way or the highway” attitude made me angry. Azure was a very cool lady, though. Her finding love and “home” was a trade off in losing some of herself. I can’t imagine how she would not begin to resent the constrictions expected of her especially considering her free-spirited background and her artistic career. It felt like both main characters’ personalities faded as the story progressed or maybe regressed.
I was pretty disappointed in the rushed ending—it didn’t even describe the wedding for Deidra and Jeremiah or their special wedding gift and reaction to it. For a series setting up a wedding venue, it was very odd to not have the first wedding held there even referenced. All in all, as a reader I felt cheated that the promising beginning didn’t deliver.
The writing style, and the pacing of this was a bit different for me. There wasn’t as much going on, it was simpler, at first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. But I ended up really starting to like our main character and the faith elements put in were a good bit, yet seemed natural and normal in the story. I enjoyed that aspect a lot. There were defiantly some lines and sections talking about love and in that more biblical & Christ centered way which was one of my favorite parts of this book. If your looking for a nice Christian romance that’s not nearly as “drama filled” I’d recommend this one for sure! Will be checking out more by this author for sure!
Elizabeth Maddrey is a talented author who weaves relatable characters, twist and turn plot with intriguing conflicts and ending with a believable resolution. Nice descriptive details of small town life challenges in the Blue Ridge Mountains of SW Virginia. Free spirit artist Azure meets auto mechanic Matt. Enjoyed how Elizabeth Maddrey included contemporary topics in this delightful romance: small space living, home schooling, dumpster diving, lack of immediate and extended family, and more.
When Azure went to Peacock Hill her life will change. Matt is interested in getting to know Azure better but he is sceptical about her. Watching these two become closer will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. You will feel God working throughout this wonderful inspirational book. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.
I liked the character growth in this book, on the whole. I understood Azure coming into the friend group this series is part of and feeling Outside based on her own hangups & background. I understood Matt feeling trapped by his situation. Their relationship initially made sense. However, as things unfolded, the choices & reactions didn't feel natural and other elements felt...belabored? I don't know. On the whole I liked the book, but I didn't love it nearly as much as the first book.
I loved this love story about following God's will The storyline was intriguing because I loved the roving lifestyle which I followed for years.I Reading the books in order enhances your enjoyment of the characters. This book is recommended for those that love Christian romance.
4.5 stars for this one! This is my favorite so far in the Peacock Hill series. The road is rocky for Matt and Azure; they are so different from each other. It takes forgiveness and compromise to make a relationsip work when the subjects have such differing outlooks on life. I can hardly wait for the next book in this series.
The characters are well done, plots and dialogue seemed realistic. Azure comes from an unusual background and that is part of what causes issues in her relationship with Matt. They are also both stubborn and don't start off communicating well. Luckily, they have friends... Wait. They're not lucky; they are blessed. :)
The subject of this book was different from any stories that I have read before and it was very well written. The characters were strong and matched perfectly. The author put several great twists at just the right time. Everyone should really enjoy these characters and plot.
I really like Azure. She sure is a gifted free spirit. Peacock Hill sounds so inviting, woild love to visit😁 enjoyed the bond between the friends and how the guys can talk about things in a constructive manner. Want to read more of the series!
I enjoyed this story with some of the previous characters from the other books, and meeting the new ones. As an aspiring Worldschooler, I found myself wondering at how the main character was as an adult and loved watching her grow through the story and her little camper trailer.
Azure comes to the mansion to recreate the muriel for Deidre. Azure is a wandering soul,, she doesn't stay in one place to long. Matt meets her when admiring her classic truck. This book made me wonder if there is someone for me.
I enjoyed walking through all the ups and downs of Matt and Azure’s growing relationship, and how they were both willing to learn and grow as their love grew stronger. The friends at Peacock Hill were endearing as well.
Such sweet stories of romance and finding one's place in life. I like that they're romantic but still keeping God's word at the forefront of these stories. Can't wait for the next book!
Chapter 5 "Third. Date. The kissing date. Or so every sitcom on television.. Chapter 19 ..." the worrying hadn't been particularly productive, but the prayers had given her a glimmer of an idea. Chapter 20 Love hopes all things, believes all things, and endures all things.
I enjoyed this book. The characters are believable, and I always enjoy a series in which characters from previous books show up. Maddrey does a great job of portraying how important communication is in a relationship, how childhood events may not have been perceived correctly, and how God can transforms lives.
