Dark Warlord
Battling the Barbarian...
All Chamele Warlords have a destined mate, a gerel they are fated to spend their lifespans with. Batu, being genetically enhanced, believes he's the sole exception. He devotes himself to battle, is resigned to living a solitary life, dying with swords in both of his hands.
Then he sees her.
Genine is a warrior female intent on protecting her loved ones. To keep them safe, she must face Fighter Batu in the ring. If she loses to the barbarian, she becomes his to do with as he wishes. And he wishes her to submit to his deep voice, rough touch, passionate kisses. If she defeats Batu, she will have to kill the one male she was destined to love.
Dark Warlord is a short companion story in the Refuge series and is meant to be read after Dark Flight. It is a SciFi Romance set in a gritty, dark world. This story was previously part of a box set.

Another awesome episode of life on Carinae E, and while it belongs to the Refuge series, surprisingly DARK WARLORD stands perfectly on its own; the necessary details pertinent to the main characters are all there, and no one will be lost.
If you liked the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith, DARK WARLORD will probably appeal to you. Cynthia Sax never fails to astonish: in this story, there is a very interesting twist to the collared submissive, which provides much food for thought. DARK WARLORD is a short novella, so things happen quickly, but still Genine and Batu come off as fully-fleshed out characters. Cynthia Sax is the queen when it comes to writing heroines who are as fierce as they are vulnerable, who never apologise for their sexual needs, and are respected by their male counterparts.
DARK WARLORD is a quick read, with plenty of steam and ferocious battles, and I must admit that I am deeply fascinated and intrigued by the clones, and I hope to read more about them at some point.
I give 4 ½ stars

Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
This was a short novella featuring a genetically modified Chamele Warlord and a warrior female. I enjoyed Batu and Genine’s quick story. I liked that Genine was a warrior and was determined to protect the clone settlement. Also it was nice to get a story set in the Refuge world but not in the settlement.
This is the second Chamele warrior that the series has introduced and I find them quite interesting. I can’t wait to get to the spin-off series featuring them.

An excellent story!
I love books that show women’s inner strength, their confidence. “Dark Warlord” achieves that goal, hands down! Genine is an experienced warrior, a protector. Batu, an enhanced Chamele Warlord, recognizes her as his mate, his gerel. Working together, they surmount what appears to be an impossible situation.
Ms. Sax writes a succinct, emotive story that leaves me wanting more.
A quote from Batu: “Before I met you, I was a weapon with no purpose, a Warlord with no one to protect, to live for.” I love it!

A short hot and sweet read. Only Cynthia Sax make the word Rutting HOT. I also love the way the ladies in this series might be human they are strong and fierce equals to their other halves.

This short novella is quick and to the point. The plot is easy to follow and the characters (Batu and Genine) are well developed. This short story does have a HEA.

I enjoyed this story. Their violent yet passionate tournament was super hot! This series is a good one that I look forward to each new book being released.

Quick enjoyable read. Cynthia is a master of the shorter story, 60 pages. She tells a good story in a short space of time.

Kick-ass Genine.
A nice little read from the Dark series world. Genine a female warrior protecting a clone colony of females was forced to fight in a tournament in order to save one of her charges life. Their a modified Chamele warrior known as Batu instantly recognises her as his Gerel. He manages to fix the fights in order for him to face her in the arena. It was an interesting story and their is mention of an incident that takes place in the cyborg sizzle series tying both worlds together. The only issue I had with this tale was the scene in which they are intimate for the first time. In order to save her life he has to give an adequate performance to please the crowds if he doesn't they could demand her death. So that whole naked and in public thing wasn't my cup of tea. I was actually cringing when I read it especially when she recognises people in the crowds, I felt mortified on her behalf. Also the insta love thing happened way too fast like within 24hrs, it just felt too rushed for me. Apart from that I enjoyed the story especially that sweet epilogue it was exactly what I was hoping for and was delighted for them both loved it.

Keep them coming, cause I for one require more. Greedy reader that I am just can’t get enough of the Refuge Series and Dark Warlord is a tasty morsel for the series. Action, danger, honour and two hearts meant to be one. What more can a reader want? Loved this one Cynthia as much as the others.

Dark Warlord
Genine had taken it upon herself to help one of the beings she protects. She had to fight with the warrior that she finds attractive. Batu had finally found his gerel and was determined to find a way to help her in the fighting ring. Can they find a way out of the situation or will one of them be killed? Short and Sweet
It was short and sweet but it's just as great as all the previous ones? The characters were made for each other with enough drama, action, and steamy sexy scenes that leaves you saying ahh. A must buy and so ready to read the next book in the series.

This short story was a delight to read! A small slice of a life for a protecter and warlord. I was just right to read before bed. It had fighting, a little rough sex and a happy ending!

Great read. There was just something about Batu that immediately caught the attention. He certainly caught Genine's. Loved their instant reaction to each other and Batu's complete devotion.
