For Hungry Christians is the third study in the Christian Growth Series. It introduces the person of Christ - the Bread of Life - to Christians who are hungry to know Him. Use it to build your life upon the Cornerstone of the faith! The Christian Growth Series is a discipleship course for Christians that has been continuously in print since 1972. The studies are easy to understand and can be self-taught or teacher directed. Each book has eight chapters that provide Bible answers to serious questions.
"Bread" is the third book in the series. I am very disappointed with this book, and do not recommend reading nor giving it to anyone especially if they are not saved but are close to becoming saved. All of chapter 4 refers to Christ in the past tense: "Christ Was Holy", "Christ Had Genuine Love", Christ Was Humble", "He Had A Meaningful, Consistent Prayer Life", "He Worked Steadily At What God Had For Him To Do". So, what they are saying is 1) Christ is no longer holy which is false); 2)Christs love is no longer genuine (which is false); 3)Christ is no longer humble which would make him cocky and arrogant like Satan (this too is false); 4)Christ no longer has a meaningful consistent prayer life (which is false because Christ is now up in Heaven interceding for us"; 5)He no longer is working steadily at what God has for Him to do is also false because Christ did not retire and become a couch potato once He rose from the grave. Jesus Christ said "I go to prepare a place for you", and this is what He is doing right now. Also, there are less explanations in this book than the previous two books. Just like the previous two books, the author asks you to write in your own words what God is saying which is contrary to Deuteronomy 12:32 and Revelation 22:18-19. A massive amount of questions with a massive amount of writing, with a lot of hoping that you can read the writers mind of what he meant to say. An example is in chapter 4 on page 33, the author asks: "when Christ was doing God's work, what things did He forget?" "Forget"? Is Jesus Christ "forgetful"? NO HE IS NOT!!! They list three Bible passages to "prove" that Jesus Christ was "forgetful". I have read these passages almost a dozen times and asked the Sunday School teacher and the Sunday School teacher was unable to explain what they were talking about because Jesus Christ is not "forgetful". The three examples the author gives are: John 4:31-34, Mark 6:31-34, Luke 23: 40-43. I am very, very disappointed with this series and there is still one more book to go.
