If I Was Your Girl was a book about a young teenager girl who has a son. Toi struggles with the fact that she is a mom, but she is still young and want to be able to find real love and have fun again with her friends. Because she has responsibilities of a grown woman, she has a difficult time coping that she can not do the things that she was once able to do.

Toi comes to the realization that the love of her life, her son's dad, is not who he portrayed himself to be and she finds herself coping without him in her life. Soon she finds that she have to live her life for her son and eventually tries to move forward in her life. With all of the twist and turns that occurs in this novel, Toi has to realize that she must put her best foot forward in order to be a successful teenage mother.

This is a very good novel that many teenagers will be able to relate to because of the struggles of the main character, Toi, and the other characters in the story. Ni-Ni Simone does a good job depicting the characters. It was an easy read and was written for others to learn more about the characters in the novel. There were several grammatical errors and towards the end of the novel, I was able to tell that the author was trying to rush and put everything in the novel so that it could end. She did not take as much time toward the end of the novel as she need in the beginning and middle of the novel.

I would recommend this book to other readers, in addition to read the other books that followed this one.

IF I WAS YOUR GIRL tackles the life of a teenage mom, with baby daddy drama and the worries and stigmas associated with such. Through SHORTIE LIKE MINE readers glimpsed Toi McKnight, Seven`s more mature, sneaky twin sister.

At only 17, while her girls are out enjoying themselves, Toi is kicking it with her son, Noah. While she doesn`t mind so much, she can`t help but feel played and disrespected when it comes to Quamir, her son`s dad. If he isn`t at some other chick's house, then he has another kid on the way or is flat out refusing to help her with anything for their baby. So when she meets Harlem, a 19-year-old college student, who is looking to get to know her better, Toi is conflicted.

A packaged deal, Toi, Noah and Harlem blend into a ready-made family. With too much drama between them, Toi decides that it just may not be in the cards. It takes a minute, but it finally sinks in; Toi realizes that she has to learn to not only depend on herself, but she also has to adjust and be willing to accept and seek help. Working at IHOP to pay the bills, welfare for childcare assistance and her mom for everything else, Toi finds herself wondering what type of life, if any, that she'll have.

IF I WAS YOUR GIRL was an okay read. I wish we would've seen more of Toi's transition. Ni-Ni Simone does a good job proving that not all is lost when it comes to teen parenting.

This book was about a girl like Beyonce and face that put any top model to shame, Toi Mcknight has ll the cuties coming on her away. I am thinking who would blame them? She is also rocking the latest fashion trends and hanging at every bangin. Seventeen year old mother of a baby boy. I feel bad for her because between bills to pay and adult responsibities to meet, she dose't have any time for sizzling gossip, chilling with her friends like she us to. Toi knows that she has a baby but he said that he want date teenage mother and she vowed to never love agian. Sassy finds a part-time job at IHOP and most of her free time she spends it with her friends. There's a lot of drema in this book...Simone's latest is all about definitely want disspoint. Shouting matches the door even slaps the baby daddy drema all reign supreme in this quick yet half-plotted stoy of struqqie and tough love..This book was also very getto it had a lot of getto words.
Great book I think people should read this book because it's good.
And if there's any teenagers that get preagent read this book and don't be stuiped and do things your not supost to..Beacause you are going to end up like Sassy and a very young age having a baby and having to work..Good book..but also sad.

This was really good and believable too. This story follows Toi who is a young teenage mother working a job and finishing up high school. All Toi wants is to go to Spelman but she feels she will never get there.

She meets Harlem, Harlem treats Toi right and spends a lot of time with her. Toi doesnt want to ruin this new situation she has with Harlem so she doesnt mention she has a baby.

Meanwhile Toi ex boyfriend and baby dad Quamir is trying to hurt her chance at anything positive in her life. Harlem and Toi end up having a good story in the book and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the writing and it made me laugh. Cousin shake was hilarious and all Toi friends were cool too. I want to know more about Seven character and what's going on in her situation.

This was a great story and I plan to read on in the

In the story “If I Was Your Girl,” author Ni-Ni Simone introduces Toi McKnight who is raising a child all by herself. Toi McKnight lives an ordinary, hood life; she is not only a student but a mother. Toi meets a handsome guy Harlem, who falls in love with her, but little does he know she has a child: what will happen when he finds out? Harlem is a young man living his life to the fullest, partying, and chilling with friends. Once he meets Toi at Burger king everything changes. Every time, he goes to her house Toi keeps him outside the house, but little does he know that she’s keeping a secret. Although this book is amazing, I would like for you to go find out what happends when Harlem finds out shes keeping a secrate.

I choosed this book because it sounded really good and it looked like a good book with good characters that like to perform and it shows me not to get prangnent at a young age like the girl it was really sad because she had to lie to the guy that she liked saying that it was her brother. This book is a non ficion because it is not true it is just a made up book. The setting is at the girls house. The discription of the main character is that she did very wron to lie to the guy that she like by telling him that it was not true that she had a baby and that it was her little brother so when he finds out that he was laying to her he got really mad and would not answer to her calls. The plot summary is that well she liked a guy but the guy did not know that she has a baby and she lies to him and tells him that it was her brother and 1 day he finds out that sh was laying to him so he gets reaolly mad and her mom and her dad are getting divorced but she decided to stay with her mom to live. The problem of this book is that the girl has a baby but she does not tell the guy that likes her so when he finds out stuff get a little complicated for her the guy that likes her does not want to talk to her or to see her because she lied to him. The problem is resolved when the girl gets a note from the guy and it said that if they still want to go to prom together and that he still really likes her so he forgivce him but the day comes and the guy does not go like he said that he would so the girl goes with her friend wich his partner never showed up eather so they dicided to go toghether. My opinion of the book is that it was a really good book and that i really enjoyed it like the other Ni-Ni simone books that i have read they are all good and they are all interesting and enjoyable to read.

The book ¨ If I Was Your Girl¨ by Ni-NI Simone it the second book of the series Shortie like mine. This book is told in the point of view of sevens sister. Seven sister Toi is a teen mom and the book follow her through her struggles, but also show how she has grown. You get the point of view of a teen mom that works and goes to school. It talks about something that people don't like too. You get to understand how it is to be a teen mom and what it is to be her.

If I Was Your Girl , has to be probably the best book I have EVER read in my entire life. It's about a teenager mother who falls in love with a boy. But the teenager mother, Toi McKnight realizes everything happens for a reason. After finally breaking it off with the baby's father, Quamir, Toi is trying to start new. She has a job and pays her bill, but she still lives with her family. Toi never thought she would be able to go to college, but she did get accept to the one she wanted to go to! Toi finds everything perfect at college, also when she spots the boy she fell in love with back at home.

"NEVER JUDGE a book by it's cover ... OR NAME! I wanted to read this book as a joke, but when I got to the 10th page, I fell in love. This book is seriously so amazing. You see the problems Toi goes through, and so people can relate to them. Maybe not the having a baby so early in her life problem, but family , school and boy problems. I seriously recommend this book to anyone! It's super amazing and you will fall in love with it, just as much as I did!

For urban fiction aimed at teens, this is a good choice. There were some things that bothered me though: the references to pop culture (especially music) will date the title quickly (it already feels dated); the language/slang will also date the title quickly; and I'm not quite sure why the Uncle's relationship with Percy's mom (as well as Percy) was part of the book...I think it would have been fine without it and that was all a bit bizarre for me. But overall it was a good story about a teenage mother that ends happily.

If i was your girl is a book that talks about a young teenage mom taking care of her child but also trying to find love. I like the book because it talks about the reality of any other teenage mother taking care of there child, with baby daddy issues, and wants to find love. Some of my likes about the book is that it gives readers thought that maybe they could still find love and have a baby. I would recommend this book for teenagers to read. But mostly young adult mothers so they can have courage to not give up.

This book was realistic fiction. It was very well written and it was one of those books that kept me one the edge and made me want to keep reading. It deserves 5 stars and everybody should give it a try!
I choose to read this book because by the title it sounded like a good book. I read the 1st page and the back of it and by what i read it was a interesting book.

I could not put this book down for even a second. It was a pretty quick read, however, I fell in love with it. The characters (except the idiot baby daddy) went through stellar character development. Harlem and Toi's relationship depicted a real one and I have so much respect for the writer in that. She created something real.

Seeing your child run around making silly faces acting like she is the parent. I hope that she doesn't become a parent so young. I'm a mother at a young age but I was 14 years old having a baby, but I still know how it feels to be a very young mother. The main idea of my book I chosen to do my book review on A Girl Like Me By;NINI-SIMONE , The author's main purpose to get across is how young teenagers have children at a young age ending their lives as a free person . not being able to party how other teenagers can hanging out having a good time with your friends staying out late, all of this fun ended for a young lady that thinks she has it all, the bootylicious body like beyonce the face that would put any top model to shame. Toi McKnight is a seventeen year old mother of a baby boy between school and bills to pay and adult responsibilities Toi has no times for fun and games.

When I picked this book I could make connections with myself, because I'm a mother at a young age but i was 14 years old having a baby but i still know how it feels to be a very young mother. Never having time to yourself anymore big responsibility you have to prepare yourself for that you was never ready for that just happens.

If I were to meet the author I would like to ask her about certain things she put out there in the book like when she says “My kids don't even live with me, I need my money , where my food stamps ? i lost my card, I found my card i ain't going to no damn work first program ….” I just would like to know what was she actually feeling writing that because if felt like a lot of emotions flowing through the character she made.

The setting of this is when Toi finally start dating and bringing a new person around her son. Harlem is a nice guy he takes her places and buys her new clothes but they are just now hitting it off .she is scared to bring him around because she doesn't know how long they might be together and she doesn't want new men coming in and out her son life.

Toi sees that this is a great man for her and that he looks like a family man that can actually be around for a long time Toi and Harlem is making plans on starting a new life with just her, baby boy and harlem .

Reading this book the author purpose was entertaining about how much a girl can really go threw at a very young age. How the character living like she is 30 years old and she is only seventeen. I also feel that the character purpose is to persuade to young girls reading slow your lives down and live while you can because moving too fast you can make mistakes you were never ready for.

When the author speak she speak like a younger lady so her audience will be targeting the young girls. And how they talk to one another. When she says “you gotta baby? Yeah i do .. and that was his deadbeat ass daddy in the store with me ? not my man ..” this gives off what kinda character she had a young woman single with a baby with no father in the baby life.

My conclusion of this book is to target young women on how your lives can turn around and be something that you wasn't ready for. NINI-SIMONE The Author has been through a lot as a person and you can tell on how she writes in her book she means things from the heart.

This is the second book that I’ve read by Ni-Ni Simone and it was pretty good. I enjoyed reading about the life of the main character, Toi, and her daily struggles as a teen mom. Ni-Ni Simone’s purpose in writing this book was to appeal to the teens of this generation. Toi had to balance her life as a young mother and working parent while trying to get good grades and maintain a steady relationship with her boyfriend. She soon learned that it was a difficult task that took commitment and perseverance. In the long run, she was able to pull it all together and make her life work out for the best.
This book impacted its audience by making them more cautious and aware of the things that they shouldn’t get themselves in to. This is a lesson that can be carried throughout their lives. For example, Toi was often judged for being a teen mom and it used to get her down. One day she decided that she had had enough and confronted an adult by saying “You don’t really know me or my situation. I used to be ashamed of being a teen mom, but what I learned is that I’m in charge of me and what I do” (Simone 165). This was a turning point in Toi’s life. It signified her maturity and gradual development as a young adult. She went from constantly bashing her life, to being content with the situation she was in and eventually standing up for herself. Simone used the events in Toi’s life as a cautionary tale for her readers.
I personally thought this book was well written because I could understand the text. The characters spoke mostly in slang dialogue such as “Yo, for real. Both y’all gettin’ on my nerves! True story, I ain’t rockin’ wit’ neither one of y’all like that” (Simone 12). I thought this gave the book more excitement and modernized it. Simone probably wrote like this to, once again, appeal to the youth of this generation who are more used to speaking slang. Despite a few grammatical errors, I like how she changed up how the characters spoke. This made Ni-Ni Simone an author that stands out to me.
The book was very captivating as well as funny. There were some parts where I would burst out laughing and there were other parts where the suspense was built so high that I couldn’t stop reading. This book was very dramatic but ended off on a happy note. The drama made the book very lively. I personally thought this was the greatest strength of the work. Not many authors can build a connection between the reader and the characters such as Simone did.
I would recommend this book to a friend because it is interesting. The author ended the book by having the main character say “I knew life was what I made it and I was determined that in this go-round I wasn’t settling for anything less than the best” (Simone 223). This message went out to the readers and could be applied to anyone’s life. It stressed that life is ultimately based on the decisions we make and we can chose to either make the best or worst out of it. Simone did a good job of concluding all the events of this book into that one quote. I look forward to reading more books in Ni-Ni Simone’s series.

I finished the book " If I Was Your Girl " by Ni-Ni Simone. This book is about a 17 year old girl Toi Mcnight who is caught up in her life and is just stuck. Toi has a son In the beginning of the book Toi and her baby's father are having problems in their relationship because Quamir (Baby father) has a problem committing and he just cheats on Toi all the time and Toi cant let go of Quamir because she doesn't want her baby growing up questioning who his father is and also Toi is in love with Quamir even though he does her wrong all the time she's always going back to him. Quamir has Toi's head so messed up, she's always fighting females over him and he doesn't even care he thinks its all funny until one day Toi leaves Quamir for good. Toi meets Harlem at her job and they went on many dates and she started liking him but didn't tell him she had a son. When Toi finally told Harlem she had a son it didn't really go well but he ended up accepting the fact that she had a son and they continued with their relationship. One day Toi invites Harlem and his family to come over for dinner but Harlem's mom didn't know that Toi had a son. When Harlem's mom found out she had a baby she started to say little things about Toi which made Toi break up with Harlem because Toi felt that she didn't have time for guys while she was still in school trying to get enrolled to Spelman college and she felt that she needed to stick to school. Toi and her family ended up moving out to Atlanta because Toi and her sister got accepted into spelman college. What toi didnt know was Harlem was also accepted in spelman. Harlem and Toi got back together at the end of the book.

I really liked this book because its kind like my life too, and how this life is too. Other thing is that in the being of the story she meets this guy. She starts hanging out with him. But she really worried about is that he dont know that she's a teen mom. He brings her food to her house and he takes her any where. But she dont know what to do when he founds out that she's a teen mom.

She really wants to be his girl, but she first needs to tell him lots of things before anything elas happens. Things dont always trun out how you want them to be. But she finds that he aint one of those guys that leave, if they found out if she's a teen mom.

This is like some of whats going on in our world but we dont see it. There's alot of girls that drop outta high school because they're gonna have a baby and now they have to look for a job if the father aint there for them, and take care of it. And being a teen mom aint easy like you might think beacuse you know that you didnt finish high school or went to collage. Also there are some people that know whats gona happen if you get pergant and the father aint there because they start saying that aint there father or they just dont care.

So we as girls need to look into whats best for us and think of what's a dream. Even though you know he/she is the best choces for you. Finish your high school and go to collage then think what your future is gona be, and be happy for whats right for you. Make the best choice.

This was one of my favorite books to read. This is the kind of book that you don't want to put down because you just want to know what is going to happen next. This is the life of a teen mom who's baby daddy is a cheater and she meets this handsome man at her job. This is another love stories that end with a really sweet ending. After meeting this new guy named Harlem she starts to hang with him and get to know him. But through out she has baby daddy trouble and feelings that are yet not gone and hope for having a family. Things book keeps you on your toes wanting to know what happens in the end. I would recommend this book to people who like sweet love endings and love stories with drama. In a way this book shows what can happen in the real world and that even if life gets tough thee can always be an happy ending that we might just not see yet.

This is the second book to Shortie Like Mine. This is also a great book. This one is based more on Toi. She has a little baby boy with a guy named Quamar. Her and Quamar are officially over when she found out that he has a bunch more kids lying around that he doesn't take care of. Toi has a job, goes to school and takes care of her baby. So she really has no time to hang out with friends. She then meets this really cute guy named Harlem. He likes her and she starts liking him. They go on dates for a long time and she hasn' once told him about her baby boy that she has. She thinks he's going to leave her because he won't be able to handle it. Until she finally decides to stop denying her baby boy.

Another one of Ni-Ni Simone books!1 I just got done reading this one and now I am hooked on her books. The way Toi is handling her life is turning her life into what i call, poo. But she meets a hansome young man name Harlem and boom1 Her life is changing. She just got out of an abusing relationship and that was her baby-daddy. Harlem didn't date girls with a babay because he thought they were statistics and full of drama. Toi hasn't told him yet that she has a baby because of what he said. All three of my sisters are just like that and have kids at that age. I got finshed with book and didn't want to turn it onto the library. That's how much I love it.

I dont know if i would recommend this book to anyone because of the way the book is .It has too much drama in it unless the person likes drama but other than that i wouldnt know if i recommend it .

One of the characters was the main charcter in the book and her name is Toi and she had made mistakes and she now is paying for them by getting her life together and by raisng her son without her baby's father in his life .

The book is about what all teenage moms go through and some of them get there life together like toi did she has a job and she is working to save up .
